Hi Graham, thanks for the help and advice. In fact this morning I decided to concentrate on the problem from the second angle.
Instead of trying to find a foots witch which would do what I want, I decided that first I'd explore again how to do it just from Cubase.
The result was that instead of Cubase trying to control the X32 I now have the X32 controlling Cubase!
It wasn't easy as I don't really understand these things (I'm 73) but in the end I managed to get Cubase's MIDI Remote Manager to put Cubase into and out of record when I toggle the MUTE button I wanted to use.
Whilst doing this I discovered a lot more about the MIDI Remote Manager as well, so it wasn't a waste of time.
I was also pleased not to have to buy another piece of kit!
    Thanks once again, Ross.

I think I've got it closely figured out. My Rolls Midiwizard no longer puts out the full range of CC's and I tested the expression pedals I hads hooked into it ands they work correctly with other devices. the Midiwizard over 20 years old but had some great features. So hopefully I can adapt the FCB1010. This thing is huge. Didn't realize it.

Hello Graham, from a hot and Olympic mad south west France
Really clear and well explained video.
Will the FCB1010 allow me to do what I'm trying to achieve what I want using Cubase and an X32?
I know how to use Cubase macros and LPE, and have tried loads of things, however can you suggest how, when I go into record, I can transmit a CC over MIDI to an external device .
To activate record it doesn't matter whether it's as a drop in, a manual mouse click, with the keyboard, or CC121 footswitch.
The specific CC I want is 70 on MIDI Ch 2.
What I want to do is send CC70 Value 127 to my Behringer X32 mixer. This is the value that will MUTE the main outputs of the mixer.
I want to do this so that every time I start recording audio (from a mic) the audio in the room is cut (so no feedback and no other sound into the mic too).
Presently, as I activate recording, I also press the X32 Mute button to achieve the effect I want. Not such a big deal, I know, but it would be so cool to just start recording and have Cubase do it for me!
It would be nice to have the X32 unmute when recording stops too.
Pressing MUTE on the X32 and have Cubase go into record would also be an option. I know that the mixer transmits CC70 info as I've checked using MIDI OX but as before nothing I try gets me to where I want to be.
I know I can send time codes to external sequencers or accept them back but the mixer doesn't have these options. 😞
    (Win10, C13Pro)
    Thanks in advance
    Stay well
    Ross Anderson

Dependant on what version of Cubase using this should be possible with an FCB1010 pedalboard. If you have Cubase 12 or 13 then there is a function called MIDI Remote, using this you can set up the FCB1010 to operate the transport controls in Cubase. Here's a link to a video I made on how to set that up: th-cam.com/video/uUy1o8sSxzA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=uvQaW2lNzkHUP4Er
In this example the FCB1010 is sending 'note value's to trigger the transport functions. But......each preset button on the FCB1010 can send 1 note value, 2 CCs and 5 program changes simultaneously as well as controlling 2 expression pedals. So, for example I have my FCB1010 set up so that when I press preset 5 it triggers 'record' in Cubase (by sending note value 5), but I can also get it to send a CC value at the same time. Just did a quick experiment and set up my FCB1010 to send a CC value to a piece of my gear (my TC helicon voicelive) to activate an effect when I press preset 5 on the FCB1010....and it works. When I press preset 5, record starts in Cubase and simultaneously the effect is triggered on the voicelive unit.
Therefore it should work for what you are trying to do i.e. trigger record in Cubase and send a CC to your X32 at the same time to mute the outputs. You should also then be able to assign a CC to whichever preset on the FCB1010 you program for the 'stop' button in Cubase to unmute the X32 when you stop it. This way you can start and stop recordings in Cubase with the footswitches on the FCB1010 and the X32 should automatically mute/unmute as required. Hope that all helps and made some sort of sense 🙂

Hi, not used Camelot Pro or any of those sorts of tools before, however there are a number of videos on TH-cam about using FCB1010 with Mainstage - so I would assume it can work with Camelot as they are pretty much similar tools for controlling live gig rigs. The FCB1010 has 100 presets which I would assume you could used to correspond with certain things in Camelot. For each preset you could assign the 2 pedals to control different things and each preset can also send 5 program changes, 2 CC commands and 1 Midi note on/off message. I suppose what you'd be really doing is mapping the FCB1010 to Camelot and using it to control the performances in Camelot (which in turn would trigger all the corrrect programs etc on the connected synth/s). Cheers.

    • @splootyvision
      @splootyvision  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

The only way to upgrade firmware is to buy a new chip for it, as everything is stored on a little EPROM. The version 2.5.1E is about £15 online. You just have to open the unit, unplug the old chip and plug the new one in (sounds easy but I've never tried it as mine already had the latest firmware). There is then an aftermarket chip that a lot of people seem to like which is the UnO chip (similar price) which offers some different functionality depending on what using the FCB1010 for - effectively it adds a stomp box mode, so the bottom 5 buttons become stomp boxes and the top 5 do the CC/Program change stuff. Not tried it myself but I believe popular with guitarists.

If you go into the editor and make sure that all the check boxes for PC messages are unchecked/disabled. I believe the editor normally defaults to PC1 being checked with a value of 1, which would be the first patch, which is the CFX/FM patch - so you need to make sure this is cleared. Hope that helps. Hi there - had a play with it and YES 😀It is possible. I was able to set mine up so that Expression pedal A controls the Super Knob on my MODX and Expression pedal B controls the Mod Wheel on my Deepmind 12. Basically as mentioned in my earlier reply, the MIDI channel is a global setting so you can actually set each of the expression pedals to a different MIDI channel. You can then set up various presets for what you want the pedals to do. So preset 1 could be they both do volume, preset 2 could be they both do sustain, preset 3 could be the super knob and mod wheel, preset 4 could be the cutoff, preset 5 the resonance and so on and so on ! Hope that helps 🙂. You will need to use MIDI thru to pass the signal to both devices (either from the midi thru on one of the keyboards to the other or via a midi thru box). Its easy to program using one of the PC editors, just go into the global settings and change the midi channels for the exp pedals and then transmit the sysex to the FCB1010.

You can define up to 100 ‘presets’ (10 foot switches and 10 banks). Each preset can send whatever commands you want independently of any others. For example on my FCB1010 I have the first preset (bank 1 footswitch 1) set up to just send a cc message that chooses ‘scene 1’ on my MODX, preset 2 chooses scene 2 etc - but these only send the required cc’s, no program changes or anything else. @@thephoenixchant Hi there, the FCB1010 doesn't take Hex, you need to convert to Program change, MSB and LSB values. I'm not 100% but in your example I believe the program change value is 2, the MSB is 85 and the LSB is 0.
      To program this:
      Choose a preset on the FCB 1010 e.g. bank 1 preset 1
Hold the down button until green LED at top flashes
Press up and green LED moves to 'Select'
Hold down button 5,6 and 7 so there red lights come on and extinguish any other buttons that have red lights on (hold them down till red light goes off)
Press button 6 so it flashes, press up and then enter the value 00 (which is the CC value for MSB), press up again and enter 85 as the value. Press up again.
Press 7 so it flashes, press up, enter 32 (the CC value for LSB), press up, enter the value 0, press up again.
Press 5 so it flashes, press up, enter the value 2 (the program change value), press up again.
Hold the down button for a few seconds to save everything.
Now when you press preset 1 (bank 1), it should choose the relevant patch on your synth.
The only thing to also watch out for is the values might be out by '1' depending on whether your synth uses 0-127 or 1-128 numbering configuration. So you may have to add 1 to the values (e.g. pc value would become 3, MSB value would become 86 and LSB value would be become 1).
Assuming I've got the PC, MSB and LSB values correct from your example this should hopefully work.
      Hope that all helps 🙂

another question: if I click "Write SysEx" (FCB1010 is in configmode), the data would be send, but after than, what I should do to leave the configmode? restarting FCB1010 (switch off than on?) ?

Hi - once the sysex file has been transmitted, hold the down button and you'll get a countdown on the LED display before it goes back to 00. That saves the stuff you've just transmitted onto the chip inside.

I found it: pressing the DOWN 3sec will leave the configmode :-) now it runs with my Helix Native. Thanks a lot

Hi there, hopefully the response in English is ok (had to translate you comment 🙂). If you've got Cubase 12 you should easily be able to this using the MIDI remote functionality, which allows you to set up and map any midi controller with Cubase. Experimented myself and and works like a charm, sounds a bit complicated from the instructions below, but honestly I had this all set up and working in about 10-15 mins.
First, set up one of the banks on your FCB1010 so the buttons are all sending 'note values'. I've set mine so that buttons 1-10 are sending note values 1-10.
Then go to Cubase and go to the MIDI remote section (down the bottom where it says mix console, Editor, Chord pads etc.
In the MIDI remote window click on the icon in the top left (looks like 4 small squares) and then in the main window click the + symbol.
      Select the Vendor (manufacturer)
Type in the model name i.e. FCB1010
And then set the MID input and output ports (which will be the in and out of your midi interface that you use to connect the FCB1010 to your computer)
The click on Create Midi Controller Surface.
Here you can now add buttons (either manually or by pressing them on the FCB1010) and even position them so it mimics the layout of your FCB1010. For example I have set it up with to rows of 5 buttons and 2 pedals, same as the fcb1010)
Then click on Go to Mapping assistant.
Now, for example I have just set mine up so that buttons 1-5 control rewind, forward, stop, start record and button 10 does the 'cycle'
To do this, in the mapping assistant click on for example button 1 in the picture of the layout you created, look in the 'function browser' on the right and choose the relevant function e.g. rewind and the click on where it says apply mapping.
Repeat this for the other buttons (buttons set as forward, button 3 set as stop, button 4 set as start, button 5 set as record. I've then set button 10 directly above button5 as the 'activate cycle'.
Then just quite out of the remote manager and the buttons on your FCB1010 should now trigger the relevant functions 🙂. Let me know how you get on, or feel free to ping me back if any issues setting it up.

PS in addition to my previous reply, I have also now set up buttons 6+7 to move up and down the tracks and button 8+9 for Mute and solo. So, in summary I have the following functions programmed.
      Button 1 Rewind
      Button 2 Forward
      Button 3 Stop
      Button 4 Start
      Button 5 Record
      Button 6 Previous Track
      Button 7 Next Track
      Button 8 Mute
      Button 9 Solo
      Button 10 Activate Cycle
Basically can turn your FCB1010 into a full remote control for Cubase !! 🙂

What if I see unknown version in the firmware?

    • @splootyvision
      @splootyvision  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi, usually means that the MIDI connections aren't correct. Do you have both the MIDI In and MIDI Out connected to your computer (it needs both connections so you can send data to and from the PC to the FCB1010). If connections are in place, just click on the 'Chk Firmware' button and it should update it so shows your firmware version.

@@splootyvisionyes, in that section. I have the Helix Native PlugIn. I can change the snapshots now. But I dont know, how I have to set the control commands to change the preset in Native.

    • @splootyvision
      @splootyvision  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

@ Hi don’t know too much about Helix Native but assume it accepts Program changes using MSB, LSB and PC values.
      Found this example on line:
      helixhelp.com/tips-and-guides/universal/midi#remotely-selecting-a-setlist-preset-andor-snapshot
Here the LSB (CC32) has a value of 007 and the PC Message is 005.
To program this on FCB1010 editor:
Tick PC 1 and enter 5
Tick CC1 and enter 0 and value 0
Tick CC2 and enter 7 for the value.
For info 00 is the CC for MSB and 32 is the CC for LSB. So effectively on the FCB1010 you use the first CC for MSB and the second CC for LSB.
Then make sure in global that the PC message is going to the right MIDI channel same as the CC’s.
PS I’m assuming here as no MSB value is quoted in Helix to set that to 0. It might be that you can leave it out on the FCB1010 and just send the CC32 message for LSB (along with the PC message)
Hope that helps and assume what trying to do ie move to a given preset in Native using the footswitches on the FCB1010. Cheers.

I got a 2.41 firmware chip on my FCB1010. When I load the sysex file everything works fine but I have to load the sysex everytime I use it. As well I have to unplug the Midi in/out when I read/write the sysex. If I turn the unit off it looses all the data.

    • @splootyvision
      @splootyvision  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hmm…could be a problem with the chip, you can get replacements on eBay for about £10-15 with updated 2.5 firmware (or their are other chip upgrades like the UnO which adds things like a proper ‘stomp box’ mode, but they are quite a bit more expensive).
