      Hi - apologies if not understood, are you talking program changes (i.e. patch changes) ? , if so then yes there's a section for that and you can send up to 5 program changes on 5 separate midi channels simultaneously. Cheers.

    Perfectly demonstrated!!!! When you record your songs in Cubase, are you using audio recordings or midi note recordings? I wonder how you would describe how your songs recall when you load an old song. Are your instrument settings (instrument and effects on the synthesizers) recalled? Hopefully my rambling question is not so difficult to understand. If this is a topic that you feel like would be a good video topic, I would appreciate one. Basically, I have a few Syths and midi controllers and I try to record everything in Cubase in MIDI using VST's. I haven't really used the other synths because I haven't understood how to record them and recall them in the natural state (using the instruments that I have made adjustments to). Thanks!!!! BTW, I just subscribed... I am in the 1st 5000k subscribers club!!!!

      Hi, and thanks. For my hardware synths I generally always record all the midi note and automation data when putting songs together in Cubase and then bounce the MIDI to audio tracks later when it comes to mixing and final production. For synths that can save presets, I use the 'Bank' and 'Program' selector boxes in the 'Routing' section of Cubase to enter the preset number. If you set up a MIDI track for an external hardware synth, look under the output routing, just above the 'drum map' box, you'll see 2 boxes which will say 'Off' and 'Off', these are the Bank and Program selection boxes where you can enter the relevant numbers. For example my PolyBrute has 8 banks each containing 96 presets (either factory presets or ones I've created myself), so if I'm using the 12th patch from bank 2, I'd enter Bank 2, Program 12 into Cubase - then next time I load that project the preset on the synth is automatically loaded, including any internal effects etc that were saved with the preset. For the synths with no patch memory like my Behringer Neutron and Pro-1, I have to note the settings from the front panel (which I do on patch sheets showing all the knobs and switches) and then I make a note in the name of the MIDI track as to what patch it is; then when I next load the project I have to manually dial in that sound - there's no other way for those. And.....I do have a video planned for that in the future 🙂, (just not sure when exactly, as the list is getting continually growing !). Hope that helps and all made sense, Cheers.

    I don’t know what I’ve pressed by mistake but I simply want both the sequencers on my workstations to be in sync without playing each other’s sounds, it used to do that before where I could program them separately and just have them playing together after but now one will play the sounds from the other as well as it’s own even when I try and assign an empty track and not on omni receive

    • @splootyvision
      @splootyvision 8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Hi - workstations can be very complicated beasts, so not sure exactly what you've pressed. Generally though if they're connected by MIDI and one is triggering the other then there must be some sort of midi channel conflict. Depends what workstation your using; for example on my MODX8+, if I set the MIDI mode to 'Single' i.e. a single midi channel it will only play itself on MIDI channel 1. But if I put it in 'Multi' mode where it is now using 8 MIDI channels (as each multi sound can have 8 parts, each assigned to a separate midi channel) then when I play a key any of my other synths that are set on channels 2 - 8 also sound at the same time. Sounds like something like that might be going on ?. Cheers.

    Great setup, do you have any problems when changing parameters on one of your "master synths" that some other synth also changes some voice feature or some other thing once in a while? I had this problem even when connecting (via Midi) just Korg Kronos 2 to my Roland JU-06 and the voice in Roland had changed when I just ereased some part in a Korg's sequencer or do something that has nothing to do with voice manipulation, than I disabled in Midi section on Korg "parameter send" or something like that and exclusive etc. and now it works O.K., but I'm still "on the look out" if this two synths have some "love affair" changing something out of the blue to each other; so I don't use midi as much, I just play live a part and record it, unless it''s some arp stuff you really need it to play 100% accurate. Luckily Korg has 9 synth engines and a drumm machine etc. in it, so I don't have to deal with this web of cables; and I have connected one synh via optical cable and the other "analog line's in" so I have 11 synth connected ready to go on the fly. MIDi is great, but there's 99% chance that once in a while the system will make some mistake , destroying your patch you made in a critical moment, some glitch etc., or you as a human do something that makes making music slow and a struggle. There's that "fear" in me all the time when I see this web of midi cables. :))

    • @splootyvision
      @splootyvision วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks - so far all good and never had any problems like that 🙂. I think this predominantly works as each synth is on a single channel. When you start using multi-timbral synths like the Kronos (very nice bit of gear!) where you can have different sounds on diffferent MIDI channels etc. it probably all starts to get a lot more complicated and issues can occur. Sounds like with the Ju-06 might be on a similar midi channel to something in the Kronos so it was reacting if and when you happened to send something out on that Channel from the Kronos ?

    • @b.hornetiii.6771
      @b.hornetiii.6771 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@splootyvision Yes, It was on the same channel, so I can use Kronos as a midi keyboard, but as I said, thank god Kronos has a midi section (touch screen) where you just disable from approx. 8 midi sections what you don't want to Korg to send via midi like after touch, exclusive messages, parameter changes; so I just left enough boxes ON, so I can play 😁. It works for now. Well see in the future; if not who cares, I can still play most of the things live and than on audio sequencer in Korg duplicate etc. the pattern. It's harder because you have to play it right everytime, but it's also a good practise. I'm always watching so I don't "destroy my workflow"; so I can make music fast, enjoying in the process etc. "Less is more" or better said you have to know when is that point where "more becomes less" :))

    I have some volcas and one of the biggest problems is that most of them aren't able to chain patterns. So you habmve to change program/bank manually what let you be very busy depending on the track. What i am looking for is a kin of automatic memory change on the volcas through an external midi device were i can set up x bars for it to change. Is this possible? But dawless.

    • @splootyvision
      @splootyvision วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Beliar_VR Hi there, definitely some kit that could help. The two that come to mind are the Arturia Keystep Pro or the Novation Circuit Tracks. Both have extensive sequencing capabilities that can be used to control other synths. The Keystep pro has a 4 track sequencer so can play 4 different synths at the same time. Each track can have 16 patterns chained together and each pattern can be 64 steps long and can contain 16 notes (I.e polyphonic sequencing or chords is possible if the synths are polyphonic.). That means you have 1024 steps in total, with 16 variations changing every 64 steps if you wanted and have all of that on 4 separate synths all playing at the same time !!!! Then there’s the Circuit Tracks, this has 8 tracks comprising 2 built in synth tracks and 4 drum tracks (it has its own sound engine) and then 2 midi tracks that could be used to trigger two external synths. It can create 32 step sequences chained that you can chain 8 times for up to 256 steps per tracks. Plus it had pads as opposed to keys. PS you could ignore its internal engine and actually use it to sequence 8 external synths, so more than the keystep, but the sequencing ability in terms of length and chaining patterns is much less. I don’t have either but for my money the Keystep Pro wins (and indeed is something I’m considering for the future) a I do have its little brother the Keystep 37 that allows you to sequence one synth while playing another over the top using the keys. There’s loads o other gear out there, but as I say those would the first two that come to mind 🙂

      Hi and thanks. I do indeed have V Collection, Omnisphere and numerous other VSTs and do use the midi keyboards to control these. But I also like using hardware , especially when designing own sounds, and use the MIDI keyboards to also provide flexibility in the studio - like If I'm recording into my DAW I can play all of my hardware synths or VSTs from the little Keystep37 on my desk in front of my computer. Made it a bit clearer in my next video that I have a sort of 'dual' or 'hybrid' set up between hardware and software (this one was just focused on MIDI). However, you are right just using VSTs would be much cheaper !!! and with the quality of VSTs these days you could really do everything without hardware synths :-)

Because I never "record" MIDI I can have everything on channel 1. I am looking at the MRCC 880 to make it easier to temporarily switch to my laptop for patch management.

    As informative as this is, I have to admit that I'm QUITE the dummy when it comes to mixing old & new school MIDI... Seen A LOT of complaints online citing the Keylab Essential 61 ONLY exports MIDI data on channel 1; any chance this can be bypassed from running 5-pin MIDI out on a UA Volt to the Quadra Through & then onto two dinosaur Roland synths? I apologize if this is the dumbest question in history, but I've gotten spoiled by running USB MIDI straight into my DAW for too long. Thanks in advance.

    • @splootyvision
      @splootyvision 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi - you can actually set the Keylab Essential 61 to output on whatever MIDI Channel you want :-). There should be a button that says 'MIDI Ch' and also some of the keys have numbers above them (1-16) which refer to MIDI channels. All you need to do is hold down the 'MIDI Ch' button and at the same time press they key that corresponds to the channel you want. In terms of connecting it, I'm assuming the two roland synths have MIDI In, out and Thru. If they do just run a midi cable from the out of the Keylab to the 'in' of the first synth, then from the 'thru' of that synth to the 'in' on the second one. If they don't have thru ports then a MIDI Thru box would be needed - connect the Keylab to the MIDI thru box and then out to the 'in' ports on each of the synths. Then set each roland synth to a separate MIDI Channel, say channels 1+2. Now if you press MIDI Ch and the key numbered 1, the Keylab will play the roland synth that is set to Channel 1 and.......if you press MIDI Ch and then the key numbered 2, the keylab will play the other roland synth that is set to Channel 2. If you set both roland synths to the same channel you can get them to both sound at the same time when playing the Keylab (effectively layering both synths together). Hope that helps. Cheers :-)

      Hi - not really familiar with any of that gear, but I think what you might need is something like a 'MIDI Router'. MIDI Solutions do one, but I've also seen recently the 'CME U6 Midi Pro' which is much more affordable and seems to do lots. These boxes allow you to 'filter' the MIDI messages and should allow to do what you want. If I'm correct you should be able to attached the Deluge to said box and then out to your Virus and jv1010. Then using a software editor (that comes free with each of these boxes), you can program the box to filter what messages get sent out the outputs of the box. Using the MIDI solutions as an example it has 1 MIDI in and 2 midi outs (the CME is 3 in 3 out). The Deluge would send all 16 channels into the 'router', You could then program it so that only Channels 1-8 get sent to output 1 and only channels 9-16 get sent to output 2. If the midi in on the Virus is then connected to output one of the 'router box' it will only receive channels 1-8 and the jv1010 connected to the second output only receives 9-16. I'm assuming that the Virus and jv1010 only have the option for say a single midi channel or an omni mode where they receive all 16 channels, but using one of the boxes you should be able to filter/split which midi channels actually get sent to them. Worth reaching out to the manufacturers and asking them as they'll probably be able to confirm whether or not this would indeed solve your issue, but I believe that's the sort of thing you're looking for. Cheers 🙂

    Does the merge box handle simultaneous inputs -- playing two keyboards at once and merging their output to control other things? I have a merge box, the "MIDI Funnel", I bought around 1995 that adds four inputs into 1 output, but it's more a switcher. Multiple simultaneous inputs confuse it. It does all I need and still works! I don't use any MIDI gear live, so I can always layer separate keyboards in my DAW.

    Hi Graham I have followed your instructions for programming my fcb1010 to my modx8+ however even after resetting the unit it still will not control the scenes. I go into the live set performance and press the pedal to switch it and it simply takes me back to the first performance under the piano in category search. I’m not understanding why it takes me out of the selected live performance to my understanding it’s supposed to switch the scenes, correct? From what I can see the scenes do switch with the pedal changes however it’s not changing scenes but performances if I hit pedal 1 it takes me to the start under the piano category search. Any ideas how this could be corrected let me know. Thank you for the fabulous video!!

      @@shannonnorthman2342 Hi, it sounds like you’re also sending out Program Changes (they send messages to change patches/sounds). The FCB1010 generally defaults to sending out PC1 which will select the first patch on the MODX which is the first patch in the Piano category. When you’re in programming mode for each footswitch, make sure that you only have the lights lit up on 6, 8 and 9 as per my example. If lights are lit up on any other foot switches, hold them down till the light goes out. I suspect you’ll find you’ve got a light lit up on button 1 which is for Program change 1. Hope that helps (PS if you’re able to attach the fcb1010 to a computer, I’d recommend using the free software editors as it’s much easier to see what you’re programming - see my other videos 🙂). Cheers

    Man, you are an audio routing Wizard! I've definitely learned alot from your midi videos. I'm connecting a rc600, mx61, microfreak, 12ch mackie mixer, gtx100 amp, ko2, alesis nitro drums, beatstep pro and I'm looking into some good home studio monitors. I will definitely take a recommendation if you got one. Thanks for simplifying the process.

      @@mxdjesusreacts4725 Thanks. From what I’ve heard/read KRK Rokit monitors are a good go to especially for home use. Also Yamaha HS range are supposed to be very good but I believe more for professional studio. All depends on budget really 😉 (tbh I’ve had my Samson monitors for about 15 years and never really felt a need to replace them 🙂)

    I notice you also have s/w synths (Omnisphere/Keyscape). What are your thoughts around simplifying the hardware and getting s/w versions of your h/w synths ? I have a Korg Wavestate but I did purchase (with a discount) the s/w plugin version. To me, having stuff in s/w makes the routing so much simpler but you do lose the "feel" of physical buttons/knobs and sliders.

    • @splootyvision

      @@davidf8749 Hi - yes I do have a fair few soft synths (all the Spectrasonics, Arturia v collection, Korg Collection and some Roland) and tbh they all sound good, but I tend to find I just end up using the presets from them rather than actually designing sounds - for that I prefer the physical controls. That’s why I’ve also steered clear, as such, of most of the big manufacturers hardware, like Roland, Korg etc as I’ve got those sounds covered by the VSTs and a lot of there gear is more or less a soft synths but in a hardware shell. Don’t think I’d ever ditch the hardware, but as you say soft synths have a lot of advantages.

    Nice video. that behringer mixer, which i don't think is currently available, and runs a little hot with a weird power supply, BUT, there is no other mixer at that price(<$100) with that many inputs that i have ever found. i upgraded to a pair of behringer 2442's because i ran out of inputs and freed my little 120whatever for portable use again. ya, i only use the DAW for recording and assembly so i dont need any comms from the pc, so my pc just goes to the interface(motu m6). i'm just amazed that whole deal works so well.

      @@splootyvision ya, haha i was laughing how many L-R mono ch stereo pairs i had on my 1st mackie used mixer, but seriously, except for effects loops, the120x mixer is great. fwiw, the 2442 seems to be the best bang for the buck today and IMO effects loops in mixers are the secret weapon for pedal chains. every input has access to 4 effects chains , 1 of which is the internal effects. Also rackmount size and comes with the rackmount ears. i got a 2nd 2442 vs one large clunky mixer. many sessions only have a couple synths so i only use 1. got the motu m6 so i could have 4 primary ins for the mixers and then the 2 extras for guitar or w/e line source

    So, what do I do when I only want to set just one parameter, for example, 3 synths to recognize the same tempo and just that?

    • @splootyvision
      @splootyvision 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Have the synth or bit of gear you want to be 'Master Clock' at the start e.g. a drum machine and then connect it to the other 3 synths, either with a thru box (best option), or you could daisy chain them. Then on the synths that you want to receive the tempo and sync to the Master Clock - go into their settings and change the Clock settings to either 'AUTO', 'MIDI' or 'EXTERNAL'; just make sure they are NOT set to 'INTERNAL'. This will mean that they ignore their own clock/tempo and take the cue from whatever is being fed to them via MIDI. PS you don't need to worry about midi channel setting etc as MIDI Clock is universal and sent out to everything, so as above you just need to tell the synths whether to ignore of accept the incoming clock signal. Hope that helps. Cheers.

    IN REAPER DAW I HAVE A VST DRUMS XLN XO AND EZ DRUMMER IF I WANTED TO LOOP MY KEMPER AND A SOFT SYTNH VIA ROLAND A500 WHATS BEST DEVICE TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN SO IT STAYS IN SYNC?

    • @splootyvision
      @splootyvision 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi - not fully familiar with all that gear, assuming the Kemper is a 'Profiler' with loop function. You should be able to send the MIDI clock out of Reaper to the A500 via USB and then a midi cable from the midi out off the a500 to to the Kemper. Don't know how you do that in Reaper, but will be in the manual somewhere. That should mean that whatever tempo you set in Reaper is sent out to the A500 and the Kemper and they should all be in sync.
