I saw a video of a Tacoma with the GO PRO 5 on the roof behind the driver and passenger and the shot was amazing.
I may try that in the new tacoma so thieves don't sot the camera at night.
I don't know how to hard wire the power though as you didn't show that ?
So if I see something on the Highway I pause and start angain for how long to save 20 minutes ?
    New at tech 58 ......LOL
I figure this is the best way GO PRO because you can use it for driving, night security and vids of retiremnt

Thank you for the tip. Does it have a function that automatically delete the old footage when it's full so it can keep recording new footage?

Yes, if you use it on LOOPING mode, it will overwrite the oldest footage to make room for the newest foortage (LIFO - Last In First Out).

Good question. The Hero 4 was getting hot both from the power and the sunlight. I've since swapped it for the Hero 5 and have noticed cooler temps and longer uninterrupted recording. The Hero 4 would occasionally stop recording after a few days despite being on loop. Thanks for viewing.

If you're not worry about the audio, you could attach a smaller USB micro fan to the gopro. This is what I've done and it works great. You do get a high buzzing noise on the audio side but TH-cam usually gives me a run around on my audio anyhow with recording music from the radio. I also bought a cheap USB switch to make it easy to switch on and off. Its been a while but I think this is it: www.amazon.com/ELUTENG-Cooling-Receiver-Ventilator-5500RPM/dp/B071JB9WYB/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1513888542&sr=1-3&keywords=small+pc+usb+fan

What about the sticky mounts? Doesn't the heat effect those ? Thanks

    • @NickC9545
      @NickC9545  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Alpha6five It might. Make sure the area of the windshield is exceptionally clean and degreased before you attach the adhesive mount. And don't move or reinstall the adhesive mount. You can also remove the adhesive tape and replace it with 3M 30 pound extreme double-sided tape.

THIS IS SUCH A INFORMATIVE VIDEO, THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS.
    ONE QUESTION I HAVE PLEASE:
I am using my gopro 3+ black edition as CCTV camera, i am keeping my camera continuously turned ON and recording in 20 minutes loop mode at 1080p at 30 FPS for atleast 24 hours straight in a day. 5 days a week,
This was my need and gopro is doing awesome job. i needed something portable.
it is performing great. no issues at all so far. I have mains power socket just next to the location where i need my gopro, so I am powering the camera straight from the Mains Wall Socket.
MY CONCERN IS, THE LIFE OF GOPRO ITSELF... NOT THE BATTERY. WILL THIS DAMAGE MY GOPRO? I,E, LIFE OF THE GOPRO ITSELF GOING TO BE SHORTEN BY USING IT AS CCTV CAMERA AND RECORDING IT CONTINUOUSLY IN 20 MINUTES LOOP MODE?
IT GETS HOT, BUT NOT ABNORMALLY HOT.

You're welcome! I would guess that it would likely shorten the life of the battery foremost. But since you have a GoPro with a replaceable battery, that shouldn't be an issue. If the battery starts to physically expand, discard it. Other than that, I think you're more likely to replace your GoPro because it's outdated than because it stops working.

How to Set It Up? NO. How to show it off? Yes.

You're right man, I tried to explain what hardware I used and how I wired and configured it, but I probably could have done a better job of showing how I connected the female plug to the hot wire. The video I got of it made it look more complicated than it was, so I left it out. Just trying to help others if I can.

Robert Bell I started having the same problem as you. I'm gonna try a different memory card, hoping that it's just the card that's failing. If that doesn't help, then I might be taking a trip to Walmart...

Cool for long outdoor trips but wouldn't use a 500 dollar gopro as a dash cam. Great info though.

You can get action cameras on amazon that are just as good as brand name gopro for $50.
