  • A viewer asked for best practices and frame rates for using the GoPro Hero3 as a dash cam or driving cam. Here's my best advice and preferences. Apart from what you see in this video I also recommend non-driving settings of 30 frames per second 1080p for most video situations. I usually don't use protune unless on a paid gig where I have to be very discerning about color. For huge landscapes I like the 2.7k at 30 frames per second. Hope this helps folks. Send me your thoughts and feelings so we can all learn from each other. Thanks, TLG -

The best way to remove adhesive mounts (i use this method a lot) hold a hairdryer next to the mount for a few minutes , to warm up the adhesive , then take some fishing line and wrap it around your fingers on each hand and pull it tight (not too tight !) then make a sawing motion between the plastic and the adhesive pad and it will come off , then you can peel off the adhesive ! Hope this helps ! I used this method for removing mounts from ski's, Helmets etc.

Thanks, Tony! Glad that you were able to respond, and have been posting all these videos on the different aspects. The trip was great, just have to edit it all together. Experimented a bit while out there, and have been since then. Also, thanks for the tips fishycomics.
Also, the weather down there was great. It's a shame to be back up here in Michigan with the cold.

If you already own a GoPro Hero4, CamDo offer up a little dash cam controller to use the GoPro as a dash cam. It auto turns on and starts recording when the car starts up, and auto stops and shuts down when the car turns off (with a configurable run-on time). Has worked well for me and I'm getting much better value out of my GoPro now!

Are you downsizing in the iMovie, quicktime exporting?

Hey Tony, quick question, when you start your car, does the GoPro turns itself on and ready to record as other dash cams do, or you need to manually turn it on or use the wifi?

+Oliver Reantaso You have to manually turn it on and off.

can the gopro continuously record video and write over old files? if not how long will it record for with a 64gb micro SD card? I am an Uber driver and I need 3 cameras. 1 front 1 rear and 1 facing the cabin. I the simplicity and high video quality of the gopro so I would like this to face the inside. as for a 2 channel option for the front and rear I'm considering the thinkware x500.

It can continuously record video and overwrite. I'm not sure how many hours it can record in this sort of cycle. It really depends on what mood you are shooting in whether it be for K 2.7 K 1080p 48 frames per second 24 frames per second Etc
