Great tool! I never understood why manufacturers don’t add usb connectors near the rear view mirror. Fortunately some manufacturers are beginning to include this!
Why don’t car manufactures just fit dash cams as standard or offer them as an option? In comparison to the overall cost of the vehicle, it wouldn’t be much of an addition to the total price. I don’t get it!
Hi Rio! Yeah this is very natural offering, and we are seeing but very slowly (Telsa has them, C8 and few other in high trims). Hopefully we will see the industry make this a more common option when ordering a vehicle. Cheers!
Or just a USB port connected or close to the mirror, so it would make people's life easier. It would be more useful than having many USB ports down below that are rarely used.
Thanks man. I just saw this video a couple days ago and decided to buy the FitDVR (make sure you buy the correct pin connect -mine is the toyota corolla 21 so 12 pins). I followed this video’s steps and no long wires in the car anymore. Super neat. Thank you sir 🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@binskibinski3068 Hi B! Your installer will look at the connector and count the number of connections it has to determine the pin count. For example the connector shown in the video has 12 pins (12 connections). Cheers!
Not sure why this popped up in my feed, but I'm slated to install a mirror cam in my wife's truck on Saturday and was dreading the power wiring. Found the unit that works for her truck and I'll have it my tomorrow. Thanks for the video!
Thank you for this. I just recently bought a Mirror Dashcam for my Chevy Malibu and This is something that may intrigue me. Yes my current one comes with the lighter thingy but having to hide wiring is such a pain. I think I will purchase this on my next paycheck.
Your videos are really well done. Clear sound and steady camera. Good detail video with steady camera and good lighting. Your narrative is engaging and understandable, with a good pacing and no extraneous junk. I feel more confident that I can do this after watching a few of your videos.
Not my experience. Had 2 of their cams go bad. Both bought at the same time, both professionally installed, both died within 3 months of eachother about 1 year after they were bought. Contacted support and at first they offered 100% refund or replacement. Then when I asked for the promised 100% refund I was told they mis typed and it would be a 70% refund. I sent the emails to Amazon and Amazon just went ahead and refunded the entire purchase. I hope they took it from WolfBox's account, I really do.
Thank you John! Ah yes my car has interior lights on a separate circuit but on another one of my cars the lights are directly on the mirror (with as you mention, constant 12V). Cheers!
Would be great if you can access the wires without dropping the headliner by removing pillar covers that also house airbags, held on with lots of plastic clips that tend to break when you try to dislodge them.
@@TheSuburban15 If you remove the cover of the interior light there are a couple of screws, undo them and the entire thing comes out giving easy access to the wiring loom.

Interesting. Didn't realize they even made these. My current dashcam is hardwired and it was a pain to get done. Had to pull off all the pillar covers and play around with the fuse box.
Thanks for bringing this product to our attention. I hope in the near future, there will be no need to pull apart any part of the car. I hope there will be a plug in and use product.
You're welcome! Ah remember not all vehicles require pulling a cover to access power. Most are usually readily accessible, here is another example of a vehicle without any covers that need to be pulled th-cam.com/video/-hGu8KZLaZ4/w-d-xo.html Cheers!
Just ordered my Wolfbox G900 Pro Rearview Dashcam and this product will make is so much easier to install. Gonna order ASAP. Thank you so much for providing the latest and greatest upgrades!!
There is no mention of the cars circuit capacity. What size fuse it is on and what amp draw it has. By adding this, you may exceed the circuit capacity and blow the fuse. You gotta tell the whole story and not just the sell points of the product.
Brod! The car's circuit capacity will vary from vehicle to vehicle as manufacturers have use different designs. Here is my alternative method th-cam.com/video/YEklm9V6xYE/w-d-xo.html and my hardwire video th-cam.com/video/uZp95NbNlmM/w-d-xo.html But remember normal hardwire kits, this adapter or the cigarette lighter adapter will impose an extra load on your vehicles electrical system, however as shown on the video, the load is very small (dash cams usually pull less than 15W, aprox 3A for mirrors dash cams and about 2A for stick dash cams) and you can also just run the cigarette lighter plug those sockets are usually rated at 120W Cheers!
@@MB-vk8cv Hi M! Here is my solution for that th-cam.com/video/YEklm9V6xYE/w-d-xo.html and when FitDVR adds one for Acura I will update the links in the video description. Cheers!
Just happened to come on to my feed 4 months later. Looks promising for non-techie people who want to install a dashcam for parking mode! I have always wanted to hardwire my dashcam, but it’s one of those things that I dread doing because I don’t want to mess around with the fuse box and running the cables.
Wow , this was a great discovery, thank you so much for presenting it in such a clear way . For reference , The FORD S-MAX 2010 2.0 is a 3 pin plug. The cost of the part when taking in to account a normal hard wire fitting kit , and paying some one to do all that installation , makes this self fit option way better value . Cheers, subscribed now for future presentations,

I have the Vofio 229 Pro with front facing camera, interior camera and rear facing camera on a 2024 Outback. I love the idea, but I’m not sure how it would save me on wiring for three cameras. I asked we as I have another 2019 Subaru that I’d like to put a dash cam in.
Wow, nice product. I checked your link and I don't know whether it will work on my car. I have a 2023 Ford Territory. This is a joint venture between the US and China so there are a lot of differences in these cars from typical Fords in the US.
Wow this is really convenient. The manufacturer really made life easier for those w/ dash cam or other electronics needed at front. Then the only long wire would be for the rear camera. I wonder, is there a way to hack the backup camera to be used as the rear cam? I have a ‘18 Honda accord for perspective 🤔
Great idea! But I was not able to install it in my VW jetta because the mirror does not have a power harness clip, nor does it have one of those boxes with connectors underneath the cover, around the mirror mount. My mirror is attached directly to the windshield.
Why don't car manufacturers don't include a 12V plug near the rear view mirror - they know people will fit dashcams. Even better. Why don't they bring out cars with dashcams I wonder.
OK, this video which is awesome by the way got me started… I like this device. Now I’m trying to decide on a dash cam. My current dash cam has homely garage door buttons in the bottom of it so I guess I will move to a normal dash cam. Any suggestions? 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz Limited
Hi M! Ah so far none of the dash cams I have tested have garage door buttons. If you are looking for a mirror dash cam here are my reviews th-cam.com/play/PLMLNRyDJO83k_Lnu1aRpTr4yR2sjjWsnO.html and you need a traditional dash cam here you go th-cam.com/play/PLMLNRyDJO83kyBOt58vKp166cKD_QuQ-6.html Cheers!
Thanks H! Ah no, remember the Tombo 360X does not use a standard USB or DC connector. It instead uses a custom connector for power. Here is the full review for it th-cam.com/video/vUEsIYEBVck/w-d-xo.html and if you want a similar dash cam with a normal automotive power adapter here is one th-cam.com/video/RPTqog1_l9E/w-d-xo.html Cheers!
I stumbled across your video, which seems very useful. You seem very knowledgeable and trustworthy, so I was just wondering if you have any videos or advice for somebody like myself who is looking for parking cams (front and back) that don't require a hard installation - people keep hitting my vehicle while it's stationary (four people since November 2023!), so it's becoming extremely annoying to leave my car parked, as you can imagine.
Thank you Dave! Ah park monitoring without hardwire is a very option now. However here are two dash cams that have this ability th-cam.com/video/uYhHgjI1oOE/w-d-xo.html and this one if you only need 1 channel th-cam.com/video/ct4AUXNGvQk/w-d-xo.html Cheers!
@@robertjhoe2880 Hi Robert! Ah as explained in the video, park monitoring will depend on your vehicle. Most have switched power to this area, but some do have constant power, potentially enabling you to monitor your car while parked. And here is another solution for park monitoring without hardwire th-cam.com/video/YEklm9V6xYE/w-d-xo.html Cheers!
Thank you Lambo! Ah not sure and here is the reason why I think it may and may not. If you take a look at my original review for the D50 th-cam.com/video/dVcfFVLCXbY/w-d-xo.html you can see the power adapter outputs 3.5A and the FitDVR I showed on the video is marked with 3.0A so not enough power (the D50 is the most power hungry dash cam I ever tested). However here is where it gets interesting, if you take a look at the hardwire kit (the link is also in that videos description) it shows 3.0A (same as the FitDVR) so it leads me to believe to think it may work and also that it may not because of the conflicting information (3.0A Vs 3.5). Cheers!
My dash cam has the parking option which would require power even when the car is off. Would this device work for that feature since it’s getting the power from the mirror source? Great videos by the way.
Thanks man! Ah remember while this could potentially be used for parking monitoring (if your vehicle has power to this area all the time) it will not enable true parking mode on dash cams, that requires the hardwire kit. Cheers!
Hi,slightly off subject. My Vehicle Suzuki Vitara 1.0 Boosterjet 2018 UK, need to hardwire in dashcam. Need to run wire behind a pillar trim! What are the pitfalls doing it this way?...ie location of airbag/s etc By the way loving your TH-cam channel and the enthusiasm you show throughout 👌
Thank you Ray! Ah yes the traditional hardwire method is more common but more labor intensive, however it does have the advantage of enabling true park mode. Here is my video showing that process and the airbag in more detail th-cam.com/video/uZp95NbNlmM/w-d-xo.html Cheers!
Thanks ,Alex for replying so quickly! This Video will be a great help,Its the a pillar I have a slight worry about, have done previou in older vehicles(2) Iknow which fuses etc to use..Keep up you grest work Alex.
Regarding parking monitoring not needed if car is parked in garage. The biggest threat to car damage is in parking lots, not driveways. Of course, theft could occur in parking lot or driveway.
Hi Ken! Ah yes good input, I think didn't expand on that subject as much as I should, I mention park mode potentially not being used if the car is garaged because this is a common practice a lot of my viewers do to reduce battery drain (from a hardwire kit) when their car is parked in their garage. Now, I do also have another number viewers who leave their park mode on all the time (even when on a secured area), so probably some level of preference here but I agree, highest probability of danger is when car is exposed in an unsecured location. Cheers!
Hi Tom! Ah yes some people run their dash cam off a battery pack. However since here my State we experience really hot temperatures which I would not want to subject the battery to, that and the potential for a run away event (fire) during charging or discharging inside the car. Here is an example of a internal dash cam battery and what the sun did to it th-cam.com/video/HW8jqbl_ayU/w-d-xo.html and a video of battery related fire I personally experienced th-cam.com/video/XfWgJ8nu-RA/w-d-xo.html (destroyed the house) Cheers!
Thank you T! Ah I placed links to the adapters for Toyota in the video description, however I don't remember seeing on for the 2025 Camry, I think they only have it for the 8 generation Camry, however I will double check and update the links in the description if I do see one, seems FitDVR is releasing additional adapters almost every month lol Cheers!
My car has one of those mirrors with buttons on it to control a garage opener and stuff. It works even when the car is off. So Im assuming it might have enough power to run a dashcam when the car is off.
@@snzygames haven't tried it yet. I don't have a box on the glass like he does, either. My mirror just has a cable running along the glass up to the headliner.
You're welcome R! Ah so far I have not experienced any issues (the highest I used it was around 110 F°) I think it does help that mine is mounted behind the ADAS enclosure so that reduces direct sun light exposure. I would recommend contacting FitDVR if you need an official maximum operating temperature rating. Cheers
Professionally done...great! But for dashcams (VANTrue, etc.) that offer park mode, there's the less compact but still neat OBD2 cable (from VANTrue) that runs from the "always on" OBD2 plug across under the dash, up the pillar and back across the top of the windscreen...not as neat as FitDVR, but it's powered all of the time. That frees up the usual "cigarette lighter" plug and a dangling cable. My only issue with the OBD2 plug is, it isn't a "pass-thru" plug, so for the bi-yearly Colorado emissions test that needs access to OBD2 data, I'll have to remember to pull out the dashcam power plug before testing. If I weren't so obsessed with having park/tamper/collision mode when away from home, I'd definitely go with FitDVR (providing I can disassemble the mirror housing without destroying it...).😃
Bruh. I just got 3 dash cams and was doing research on them and stumbled on this video! I’m doing this for sure for my Dodge charger and will need one for my parents Chevy Silverado so I’ll use your “mustang video” to connect to fuse box! You the man😎😎 thanks for links , I want your radar now too
Hi Y! Ah FitDVR currently does not have an adapter for Kenworth or Freightliner. It is possible this other solution may help th-cam.com/video/YEklm9V6xYE/w-d-xo.html Regarding Volvo, I placed the link to the adapter for Volvo in the video description. Cheers!
Your videos are very good and instructive, thank you. Please do you know if this device can be connected to the interior lights in the cabin which have constant voltage as far as I can see. Does the adapter have the ability to protect the battery from draining if the dash cam is used for Parking mode? Greetings from Zagreb, Croatia.
Thank you S! Ah as show in the video FitDVR is meant to be a plug and play solution. Attempting to tap or connect the device in a different way could potentially cause functional issues or warranty coverage issues. Regarding battery drain, the vehicle cuts power to the mirror area when the car is off, therefore the adapter turns off when the car is turned off and turns on when the car is turned on. Cheers!
Thank you Dario! Ah I'm not familiar with the connector on the 2023 Corolla, but I placed the link to the adapters available for Toyota in the video description. The listing breakdowns the models and years it's available for. Cheers!
Will this drain the car battery over time? Or does it cut off power to the attached dashcam when the car is turned off? I have a Rove R2-4K. Thanks for the great video!
You're welcome and thank you David! Ah yes as explained in the video, the vehicle cuts power to the mirror area when the car is off, therefore the adapter turns off when the car is turned off and turns on when the car is turned on. Cheers!
Im gonna have to check this out.. I just had an issue with my OBD port power supply for my Garmin 66 W after 3 year..The camera used to shut off after about 5 minutes..it's been staying on all the time. I switched to the rear seat USB power supply that shuts off when the ignition is off..
Thanks, AutoFun! Great video! I took the link you have for Mazda's model and Amazon only sells the kind that attach to the sunroof adapter. The video on the website was not that clear which Mazda model it was performing on. Will you be posting videos on Mazda CX-5?
You're welcome T! Ah there are two versions of the adapter for Mazda CX-5 (I put links to both in the video description). The listing breakdown the details on where each adapter pulls power from and the Mazda models and trims supported. Cheers!
So this device is just a fancy splicer with LCD display. If you know which wires to splice, you dont actually need this device, correct? And the inability to enable parking mode means you miss out on a very important feature of a dash cam. The best method is still a battery pack. Fusetap is second best, but some cars dont like what they perceive as parasitic draw when the dash cam is in parking mode. If you dont need parking mode and dont want the headache of finding out which wires to splice, this device is a good option.
Hi J! Yes the FitDVR simplifies installation as it reduces the labor needed to identify power wires or to splice into them while also enabling the install to be fully reversible. The other advantage is the step down to USB voltage as the car outputs 12V and most dash cams operate at 5V. But yes some people do run their dash cam off a battery pack. I personally don't due to the high temperatures the interior of a vehicle can experience (which I prefer not to subject the battery to) and due to the potential for a run away event (fire) during charging or discharging inside the car. Here is an example of a internal dash cam battery and what the sun did to it th-cam.com/video/HW8jqbl_ayU/w-d-xo.html and a video of battery related fire I personally experienced th-cam.com/video/XfWgJ8nu-RA/w-d-xo.html (destroyed the house) And here is my hardwire video th-cam.com/video/uZp95NbNlmM/w-d-xo.html Cheers!
Hello Alex and thank you so much for sharing this great device ! I found it a headache and money saver, as I don't have to risk doing any damage to my car while trying to hardwire a camera my self by following videos or having to pay some one without knowing if the person will not end as well making a damage. I haven't buy it yet, as the link for my car make and model states clear that it fits a : "vehicle models already equipped with Auto-dimming rearview mirror. Please confirm whether it is a 10-pin connector in the middle of the rearview mirror bracket before purchasing" and I have not a clue if my 2024 Kia Sportage X-line Limited is compatible. By any chance, do you know if it does? Thanks once more and you have earned a new subscriber. Tom
Welcome to the channel Tom! Ah yes unfortunately usually removal of the trim to confirm the connectors undeath is required (however there are experienced installers out there who maybe able to tell without removal of the trim, basically they done enough cars to be familiar with them). And here is another solution for those that prefer not to pull power from the mirror area th-cam.com/video/YEklm9V6xYE/w-d-xo.html Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun, Thank you again for your prompt reply! I went through the link you give me, and the option to pull power from this OBD units seems to be a perfect solution to short run a wire to my camera, just if I can get one to plug front and rear cameras in the same OBD. I'll check for my camera brand to see. Thanks a lot and wish you all the best.
Thank you Walt! Ah I placed the link to the Ford adapter in the video description, the listing includes which models the adapter is applicable too. However, yes your mechanic can also confirm if your mirror area has power if you like to confirm before ordering. Cheers!

First of all, not all cars have these things to tap into. Second, some dash cams come with parking mode, which requires continuous power after the car is shut off.
Hi E! That is correct. Some cars have had power to the mirror area since the early 2000s (and some before that year but more on the luxury side). Hi J! Ah yes, you can power both at the same time. The screen will actually show both the 5V and 12V output and their corresponding amp consumption for each when 2 devices are connected at the same time, Cheers!
The display shows voltage and current. Not voltage and power. Current is measured in amps and power is measured in watts. Although it has that 3.5mm plug for radars. Most radars use RJ-11 or USB-C. Very few radars use 3.5mm plug.
Hi Dan! Ah yes I try to keep things simple when explaining things on my channel (for my broad audience) but yes folks like yourself who are proficient in electrical terms can quickly detect my oversimplifications. Regarding Radar detectors, the last one I reviewed used the DC plug, here is tha review th-cam.com/video/VF69Dwd_cxs/w-d-xo.html and I got 2 more radar detector reviews coming, both also use the DC plug. However if your radar uses a USB-C a standard USB-A to USB-C adapter could be used. Regarding RJ11, yes my two prior radar detectors (older models) used RJ11. If you need an adapter for RJ11, I placed a link to it in the video description, Cheers!
Hi I! If your vehicle has an OBD2 port (not all EV vehicles have one) here is a solution using that may work for it th-cam.com/video/YEklm9V6xYE/w-d-xo.html and when FitDVR adds one for MG4 I will update this comment for you and the links in the description. Cheers!

@@AlexAutoFun that is super cool! The other thing I wonder about is if there is a kit that supports a GMC Canyon truck. I think the Dodge one will work because it is 10 pin as well.
So close to being a 5 start product, it needs parking mode option. Parking mode is not for when you park in your garage, it's for when you go to the store, the mall or anywhere else. Almost all dash cams have the parking mode option, specially the "big brands". I would also love to see a touch scrren (or a button) added to it to be able to turn the screen off. And have this product available for more brands of cars, specially high end vehicles were owners would be more inclined to buy something like this and not mess around with the fuse box. Overall this is a very cool concept but it seems like they are just starting up, can't wait to see this product evolve over the years.
HI Eloy! As explained on the video, park monitoring will depend on your vehicle, most have switched power to this area but some do have constant power potentially enabling you to monitor your car while parked. Regarding a touchscreen or button to control the screen I can definitely be done, it's just a matter of costa and if the end customer is willing to absorb it. With the current market being driven by the lowest price it may be a challenging (at current pricing I already see people in the comments asking for it be cheaper lol, just the way it goes with the market) And here is another solution for park monitoring without hardwire th-cam.com/video/YEklm9V6xYE/w-d-xo.html Cheers!
Hi @Autofun Thanks for this amazing review again. As regards my findings on my mirror dashcam of choice, the rydeen Tombo 360x remains my no 1 option for some obvious reasons as you know. But, the low battery protection voltage remains a great concern to me (@ 10V as you told me days ago). Knowing new cars of today has many infactory power consuming accessories already, I don't know if I will be able to start the car the following day if the battery eventually got drained down to 10V. In the course of my research, I stumbled over a review of a dashcam installer whose client dashcam voltage was preset @11.4V and woke up to a dead car some days later just as he has predicted to the client, that such will happen at that voltage😔 (11.4 was assumed low, not to talk of 10) 1) What will be your advice/recommendation at this point pls? 2) Does rydeen has any hardwire kit for adjustable power protection? Or is the option available now in the updated software? 12v and above would be lovely and reliable 3) I will really appreciate if you can share with me the manual showcasing the new software interface navigation and functionalities. (the one on their site seems to be the old one). I just want to see the added functionalities Thanks so much as I anticipate your response...... Peace ✌️
You're welcome Muda! Ah remember 10V is not the power consumption of the device, the 10V refers to at what point the low voltage cut off kicks in. You can have a kit cut off at 12V but if the power consumption of the car is high when the vehicle is off the battery will reach that level faster and park monitoring will turn off (basically the same as not having parking monitoring), same if it was 11V or 10V, how long it takes for the battery to get to a specific voltage varies depending on the car's battery, size, age, health condition, SOC and any parasitic draw from other items on the vehicle that use power when the car is off. This is specially common on newer vehicles. For example I have an older Jeep that can sits for months a time with little to no battery draw, then I have a 2017 car that will almost completely drain my battery in a few weeks if the car is not used (mind you that car does not have any aftermarket devices connected to it). Here is the battery tester I use th-cam.com/video/kCNrfa8RUKU/w-d-xo.html if you want to test your battery for capacity and health, it can also perform a parasitic draw test if needed. I do use one of this th-cam.com/video/C1LapUB7bXo/w-d-xo.html on vehicles that have a high power draw when off to protect the battery. Regarding an adjustable hardwire from Rydeen, they do not have one (adjusting the cut off is a feature I'm slowly seeing disappear from the market) Cheers!
@@musaadedibu9316 You're welcome! This is a very interesting topic and I actually have a video in the works where I go into power consumption into more detail including testing different dash cams power draw (Amps while in parking mode) and also test their amp draw in the different park modes they support (some mode consume more power than others) That way people can get an idea on draw and which mode to choose from. Cheers!
Bit late mine have been hard wired by an auto electrician but then my car doesn’t have any of this electronics and airbags in the A Pillar. I also don’t have electrically operated rear view mirror. My car is 24 years old
Now you probably have e to get your windshield/car calibrated depending on the model of your car. Never unplug the lane departure warning system. The rain sensor you can that’s no problem but the cameras don’t do it.
Hi Nathaniel! Ah, while I had not had any issues with mine (I'm often disconnecting things in this area for different installs and maintenance). I think you are correct, this is a critical component that requires a professional installer to determine the proper procedure when plugging and replugging the same sensor. Additionally, there is the potential something could go wrong during the installation and/or later during the life of the product. Finally, there is also the issue of an aftermarket device and its effect on the vehicle's warranty. And here is my alternative method for those who want to avoid pulling power from the mirror area th-cam.com/video/YEklm9V6xYE/w-d-xo.html Cheers!
Hello, Alex. Thanks for this video. I have a question. Which particular one would I need for my 2022 Camry XSE V6? They have a 12pin and 16pin unit. Also, I already have a radar detector tapped into my mirror, the traditional way, by inserting thin pins into the male plug. The radar detector is plugged into the power that shuts off when turning off the vehicle. If I use this plug and play harness while the radar detector is being tapped in, could it cause shortages? Also, my mirror has constant power, so would plugging in my dashcam be able to support it as parking mode? Thanks!
You're welcome L! Ah normally Camry uses the 12 pin (the listing has the full list of vehicles if you want to double check). Regarding using two aftermarkets devices together, while it is sometimes possible, I would probably only leave one, it this case the FitDVR, since it can power both USB devices and the radar detector (obsoleting the other device you have installed). Cheers!
Awesome, Will he hard wired Features of the 70 mai A810 work with this FitDVR Power Adapter Tap? Do you know if they are ever going to make this for Nissan and Infiniti?
Hi E! I placed the link to the adapter for Nissan and Infinity in the video description. Regarding park mode, remember FitDVR does not enable parking mode like a hardwire kit does (only a hardwire kit can enable true parking mode). That being said as explained in the video, you may be able to use the adapter for park monitoring (this will depend on your vehicle). Most have switched power to this area, but some do have constant power, potentially enabling you to monitor your car while parked. And here is another solution for park monitoring without hardwire th-cam.com/video/YEklm9V6xYE/w-d-xo.html Cheers!
@alexautofun: Thanks for sharing this info. Looking at the links, couldn’t find one that fits my 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Sport that auto dimming powered. Does it require a different kind?
You're welcome! Ah here is my solution for that th-cam.com/video/YEklm9V6xYE/w-d-xo.html and when FitDVR adds one for the 2024 Crosstrek I will update the links in the video description. Cheers!
The 5th adapter they have is for Radar Detectors requiring RJ-11 connector. I have a question into FitDVR as I need a 5-pin Ford connector inside my mirror housing. I didn't see that one in your list.
Hi Matt! Ah yes I placed the link to the RJ11 adapter in the video description. Regarding a 5 Pin Ford adapter, they currently only have the 16 pin and 7 Pin. If they add a 5 Pin for Ford in the future I will added it to the list in the video description and update this comment for you. In the mean time here another alternative to hardwire th-cam.com/video/YEklm9V6xYE/w-d-xo.html Cheers!

Most modern dash cams want a 12v feed, not a 5v. I assume you can't plug the USB A end of the cable connected to the camera, which they want you to plug into their cig adapter / 12v line, could be plugged into the USB A port here on the FitDVR because it would only be providing 5V? Or does the FitDVR have a feature that senses if the Camera plugged into the USB port wants to draw 12V, and will it let it? Otherwise you need some way of safely going from 3.5 MM DC off the FitDVR to USB C or whatever the camera needs.
Hi N! Notice the FitDVR has a separate DC jack for 12V (for dash cams and radars like the one shown on the video that operate at 12VDC). However dash cams are transitioning to 5VDC, out of the almost 100 dash cams I have reviewed now, only about 2-3 run on 12V (the 5V transition happened as a result of USB power becoming more abundant). But yes you can power a 12V device if desired with the adapter. Cheers!
@@NLaBruiser You're welcome! Yeah, I also believe at some point legacy brands like Blackvue and Thinkware will switch over to 5VDC from 12V but it's possible they will stick with 12v as it is cheaper to issue a simple cigarette lighter plug with a straight 12V connection than a 5VDC step down adapter, just like any industry it just comes down to cost lol. Cheers!
Sadly out of stock on amazon with no date for it to be restocked. Great bit of tech thought hopefully able to get one soon or other brands start making them.
Hi James! I just checked and it's in stock. However it is possible that if you are in a area where Amazon does not deliver this product to, it may show as unavailable or OOS to you (hopefully we will see more delivery locations added overtime) Cheers!
Hi James! Yeah in some areas in UK it will shows as unavailable but keep an eye on it, I often see this with products and as demand increases, either Amazon or the seller ship out to additional locations. Cheers!
In another one of your videos you were talking about how if you have the N5 and you want to leave it at an airport and have it only record motion then you would need to turn on some special mode that can only be turned on if you have the hardwire kit, you were saying it doesn't work with OBD etc. So will it work with this? It seems like this is essentially a hardwire just a different method of doing it.
Hi E! Ah I think you are referring to this video th-cam.com/video/YEklm9V6xYE/w-d-xo.html Unfortunately I have not tested the N5 so I can't comment on how it works or it's features. I will see if we can add it to the list of to review (list is getting longer by the day! LOL) Cheers!
Hi L! This adapter pulls power from the mirror area of the vehicle but the actual function from where power is pulled from depends on the vehicle. The vehicle shown on the video for example uses power from the ADAS system which drives lane detection (my mirror itself is not powered). You're installer can confirm if your vehicle has power going to the mirror area of your vehicle. Great video and very interesting product. Do you have any idea if this will work internationally (Europe)? I don't know how standardized those plugs/connectors are internationally...
Thank you Chris! This adapters are specific to car makes (they are not related to a region), I placed links in the description to the car makes it currently supports. Cheers!
Great tool! I never understood why manufacturers don’t add usb connectors near the rear view mirror. Fortunately some manufacturers are beginning to include this!
Some newer cars do have it. w
Exactly. I see Citroën is doing it as standard. Others will follow soon.
some Skodas have that but it is rare for some reason ..
Does that fit on any miror for night how can we tell if the miror always have power?? Because I want a use the camera for parking
Hi P! Nope, each adapter is specific to a vehicle brand, I placed links in the video description to the adapters available. Cheers!
Why don’t car manufactures just fit dash cams as standard or offer them as an option? In comparison to the overall cost of the vehicle, it wouldn’t be much of an addition to the total price. I don’t get it!
Good question!
Or just have a USB power plug on the back of the rear view mirror?

4:30 WolfBox is excellent. I’ve bought 6 for all the cars. Great support too!
Great Video. I'm surprised the manufacturer didn't use the Interior light? On Most cars this is a Permanent 12v. 🇬🇧👍
Thank you John! Ah yes my car has interior lights on a separate circuit but on another one of my cars the lights are directly on the mirror (with as you mention, constant 12V). Cheers!
As Spock would say, Logical Captain!..it would only be a Splice
Would be great if you can access the wires without dropping the headliner by removing pillar covers that also house airbags, held on with lots of plastic clips that tend to break when you try to dislodge them.
@@TheSuburban15 If you remove the cover of the interior light there are a couple of screws, undo them and the entire thing comes out giving easy access to the wiring loom.

Hello there! Thank you for sharing this great video with us. I do have a slight concern regarding its operating temperature during the summer season.

Great video! How do I find out if my '02 F150 or '05 4Runner have power to the mirror?
Thank you Walt! Ah I placed the link to the Ford adapter in the video description, the listing includes which models the adapter is applicable too. However, yes your mechanic can also confirm if your mirror area has power if you like to confirm before ordering. Cheers!
Just got one from Amazon, hooked it up from the auto dimming mirror to my Wolfbox mirror dashcam and... Nothing. No power to the FitDVR or the cam. Got a refund & ordered another one. Hopefully it works in my Tacoma 🤞🏼{UPDATE} I had to use the plug from the lane departure system in the center housing but it's working perfectly now 💪🏼😎
How bout the rear camera? I have g900 i never install yet bcoz im still watching proper installations and found ur videos helpful and i found this fitdv my car is vw gti 17 what do u think should i just do buy the fit dv or use the obd port to power the dashcam?

biggest challenge is to find power that does not stay on all the time ! i wonder if the mirror power shuts off when truck is off ? 2024 GMC Sierra
Hi C! Yeah as explained in the video, park monitoring will depend on your vehicle. Most have switched power to this area, but some do have constant power, potentially enabling you to monitor your car while parked (mine does not, it shuts off when the car is off). And here is another solution for park monitoring without hardwire th-cam.com/video/YEklm9V6xYE/w-d-xo.html Cheers!
Interesting option. I like parking mode recording though so unfortunately this doesn't do it for me. Great demo, though, and I can see this appealing to a lot of folks...and the variety of supplied power connector options is a huge boon.

First of all, not all cars have these things to tap into. Second, some dash cams come with parking mode, which requires continuous power after the car is shut off.
Hi E! That is correct. Some cars have had power to the mirror area since the early 2000s (and some before that year but more on the luxury side). Regarding Parking Monitoring, as explained in the video, this will depend on your vehicle. My new Tacoma has a plug in the area by mirror and sunroof. It’s just a plug which has always power and ignition power. You just plug dash cam in, no adapter.
Nice!👌
Great idea, but for rear cam we still have run the cable along the ceiling left or right of the car? Is there solution for this?
Hi Sunny! Ah there are some wireless solutions for a rear camera, here you go th-cam.com/video/1c7raDpHx3M/w-d-xo.html or th-cam.com/video/Ht9Q-0HlKMY/w-d-xo.html if you need 2 channels. And if you need it to record shrsl.com/4kxgp Cheers!

Hi @Autofun
Thanks for this amazing review again.
In the course of my research, I stumbled over a review of a dashcam installer whose client dashcam voltage was preset @11.4V and woke up to a dead car some days later just as he has predicted to the client, that such will happen at that voltage😔 (11.4 was assumed low, not to talk of 10)
1) What will be your advice/recommendation at this point pls?
2) Does rydeen has any hardwire kit for adjustable power protection? Or is the option available now in the updated software? 12v and above would be lovely and reliable
3) I will really appreciate if you can share with me the manual showcasing the new software interface navigation and functionalities. (the one on their site seems to be the old one).
I just want to see the added functionalities
Thanks so much as I anticipate your response......

Bit late mine have been hard wired by an auto electrician but then my car doesn’t have any of this electronics and airbags in the A Pillar. I also don’t have electrically operated rear view mirror. My car is 24 years old

What's "ect"? Ectoplasm? Ectopic? Ectomorph?
Is that a universal connector? Meaning, will it work in any car? Does it interfere with what that plug was powering before?
Hi W! Nope, each adapter is specific to a vehicle brand, I placed links in the video description to the adapters available. Cheers!
Cheers!

Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun Thanks for this! I wasn't aware most every cam was stepping down the 12 volts to 5, so I think this will work perfectly for me!
