Your ship designs always make me want to build a new ship; very inspiring stuff. I have wanted to ask for a while, how far do you plan missions? When you build a ship, do you try to make use of every part, or do you plan the mission and build accordingly?
Also, the time lapse bits are entertaining and informative. I didn't realize I missed them until they are gone.
Praise be The Mighty Matt, The Leviathan Lowne, God of KSP. My future missions will require a brief pre-launch prayer in His name in the hopes He will see fit to fend off the tentacles of the evil Kraken, and to guide the brave Kerbonauts safely to their destination and home again.

    Hey Matt love your videos!
An idea I had for your series about failed/experimental spacecraft like the N1 is the Gemini Direct Ascent (also called Advanced Gemini or Lunar Gemini). It was a proposal by McDonnell, who made the Gemini, to make modifications to the Gemini spacecraft so that it could land two astronauts on the moon using the direct ascent method

Good challenge: build a really big International Space Station (bigger (2-3 times) than the one you already did) and you MUST USE 1 Space Shuttle built by the US and the charm in this is you WILL put in the Canada Arm into the cargo bay and NO Mini Thrusters (except for the space shuttle(obviously))

So awesome Matt, great video as usual!!💪
I like this series so much, and I was thinking, why not send an unmanned Rover like Curiosity on Laythe, before making a Kerbonaut land on it??
It would be more realistic and so inspiring. Please try to do this. 🙏🙏🙏
P.s. Personally, I think that the speedbuild would be awesome to watch in the music version of the mission. 😉

    • @yucas997
      @yucas997 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

a piece of garbage That's the point!!
An atmosphere and liquid water mean a place theoretically suitable for life.
I think that a Small Mobile Lab (such as a Rover), would be incredibly useful to study the planet.
It could last longer than a simple manned mission, and in this case, it can transmit all the data to this huge station around Jool to be analyzed. 💪
Not only, a simple science rover (not a mobile base) was never covered by Matt, and I think that it'll be super interesting to watch his version. 😉

Love your videos, but please indulge a quibble from me: Engineering involves a lot of design optimization; when a design is hugely inefficient, it's under-engineered, not over-engineered. Anyone can design a bridge by filling a ravine with concrete, but it takes skill to design an efficient span. Thanks!

Protip for more impatient or lazy players: relay antennas tend to be "combinable", so put 20 of the strongest on a relay thing and you have 100% signal strength across the entire solar system on just about anything with even the weakest little antenna.

You should do whole videos with the build of the craft explaining why and how you do them the way you do. I tend to like using 4 satellites for a perfect coms network at any location. With 2 in the Xz plane and 2 in the Yz plane or any similar setup you've got 100% coms 100% of the time in 100% of the body, provided they aren't too close to the celestial body for hills or anything else to get in the way. Essentially you're always going to have one relay 90 degrees from you, but unlike the normal 2 drone system it's also always going to have a drone out of plane which can talk to home base or the other drone. Theoretically its not absolutely perfect, you would have to get both planes in the same position at the same time, which also may not happen as the planet rotates, and is so incredibly unlikely I doubt anyone will ever see it but at least theres a theoretical chance. But for 4 drones instead of 3 you do get a better coverage of the entire body, a much better tolerance to hills, and much more leeway with drones getting out of orbit for the downside of the extra drone required and the insanely unlikely chance of a brief loss of signal, but I find it such a good trade off that I now don't even consider a 3 drone system anymore.

Hi Matt: Love your videos. I would like more details on builds, especially complicated or large builds, like this station. Thanks!

I use 3 pollux solid boosters to get anything heavy into orbit that I need. to see Matt use 2 Saturn V’s is just kind boggling
