Just found out you guys had a youtube !! Loving the channel so far !! Sorry im being a creeper watching oldies 😂😂 awesome job tho and great content #reallife #realpeople #tinyhouselife
Not creeping at all!! Thank you so much for watching. I'm always on the fence about posting, but your comments were so encouraging! Thank you!
@@tinyshedlife Do you ship sheds to PA? Great work!!!!
Website? Thank you!
This was a builder out of texas who did this for us but I’m sure there are some great places in PA!!
Hi. Is there a supply list?
No list from us! We bought a shed from one of those places they sell them and they had to build it onsite since it could be prebuilt and driven down our road.
You gotta love, someone builds a perfect shed. And the 'experts' still show up
For me, the ideas in th-cam.com/users/postUgkxy_pn55PK60wAV3X_C_RoLS_67mNonoCE Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.
We didn’t build this ourselves but hired a company that sells sheds. Had it built on site since it was too large to be prebuilt and make it down our road.
I enjoyed watching the build. Those 2 kids playing, rolling around in the dirt. Priceless.
Angela Marie thank you so much! They love being out here and are so patient with us a we work on projects (most of the time!).
Good to see kids in nature using there imagination and not on a tablet indoors.I am guilty though.
Thanks! I think we’re all guilty, moderation is key. Doing our best! Thanks for watching!
Love my little shed, it is home to my service dog and myself
Shed life is the best!! I want to make Tiny Shed Life shirts!!
Amazing beautiful job how much somerhinv like this go for
Hope I can build one by myself. I built a 12x20 shed years ago but know what to spend time on the 8 acres so need a small home. This was an awesome build.
Thank you so much for watching! We sure hope you can build one too.
Awesome labor guys!!
They were great!! Thanks for watching.
I want to build a 16x40 shed to home, but it's the roof trusses I'm struggling with. Your trusses seem simple but yet strong. Was wondering if you could help with that? Could you show the dimensions for me? What was your pitch? Ours is a minimum of 3/12. I've seen several videos on how to do it, but they seem to over compilacte it with construction terms. I've done a lean 2 roof just fine. Thank you in advance for any help you can give.
this is exactly what i want to do! do you have a lumber etc order list? i need to price it out and get it done!
Go to the pro desk at the big box lumber yeard. They will do this for you.
We bought ours through a company so no list, sorry.
Wish you guys had a supply list.
I know! We didn’t have it, the company came out and built it for us.
Good video would prefer a break down of what they are doing in place of the music. I just purchased a 16x40 and want to add a second level with a set of stairs inside. For this reason I’m going to have 16x16 footers placed first to make sure the shed to home is more stable and can withstand the weight. Thanks for the video.
Congrats!
A second story would look so cool! I’m sorry there is just music. It drives me crazy but since we hired people to build it, we didn’t know exactly what they did. A lot of was made before and brought on site. Like the roof angles. Good luck with your build!!
We are trying to build a guesthouse this size for my mom in Killeen, Tx. Who did you use for your shed? Is the 17k just for the shell?
I raised in Killeen on Alta Mira@@GnK-xv7ue
any chance you guys have a material list lol?
What materials did you guys use to make the shed? Looking to maybe build my own as opposed to purchasing a pre-built shell.
wood.
Impressive!
Thank you!
I'm wanting to do something very similar , I'm wondering how much did it cost for all materials? would help me a lot.
If your in Texas I got one built for 6500 16 by 40
What's it 6504 material and labor or just material
In tennessee I payed almost $8000, ANOTHER $4000 for paneling septic, insulation, flooring ect.
Where in Texas and who did you use to build it?
@@jameshafey4786 you got septic installed under 4 grand in Tennessee?
Nice you had help, this wouldn't work in South Dakota, winds and snow knock it right off the cinder blocks
lissa barnes we’ve turned the cinder blocks since this video and also added a larger 24”x24” pad under the blocks. Always learning. We are South Central Texas, so no snow here.
Pylons and tornado tiedowns. I'm from South Dakota. Hi. Stay safe.
What states do you service?
Nice 👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Great job! I’m looking to do this same size and was wondering how much it cost to build this beauty?
It was about $17k materials and labor. This was in October 2018.
my husband and i are building the same just the 2 of us and materials all together was $3.5k @@tinyshedlife
@user 3.5 k in materials for the whole 16x40 shed?
@@DayasiaRobinson-r6x 3.5k on materials for the whole shed ?
What size beams did you use for sill plates, or floor joist frame
And roof pitch was like 4/12?
2x6 and 4 skids. I believe they are 4x6’s. We didn’t build it. We hired the shed company to build on site. I think the roof is 6/12.
If we had to do it it again, we’d do 2x6 walls and spray foam the whole thing before we moved stuff in, but it is green hat is it. We had to do what we could with the money and time we had at that time.
@@tinyshedlife definitely agree on the 2x6 walls! Thanks for the!
By any chance do you have a Material list for this shed
Do y'all have a material list?
Sadly we do not. We bought the shed through a shed company and paid extra for them to build on site since it wouldn't fit down our road pre-built. Thank you for watching 💛
What company did you buy your shed from? I want them to come build 1 for me!!!!!
This was from a small town out of texas. Any portable building place can do it!
@@tinyshedlife But this crew works soooo wonderful! 🙂 Id love to hire them or a crew like them to come build me a shed.
By any chance do you know what kind and how much material was used to do the 16x40 shed
We hired someone to this. It cost about $17k.
Do you guys have any kind of detailed material list for this. This is exactly what I'm trying to do
We don’t. I’m sorry. We hired the building people to do this onsite since our road didn’t allow such a long building.
How many inches was the blocks off the ground ?looking to have mine the same height to run plumbing
On the big shed, at the shortest side, we are sloped, we have 3 - 8 inch cinderblocks. When we first put the small shed out we didn’t plan on living out here but we wanted off the ground away from water. Man, was it hard getting plumbing under there! We definitely made up for that mistake when the bigger shed was built. Now it doubles as storage also.
We do plan on adding more rows of cinder blocks, spacing them every 4 feet. Since this video we’ve rotated the blocks and added a larger pad under the cinder blocks. Good luck with your shed and thanks for watching!
This was done before Biden, when lumber, food and gasoline was affordable.
True that! We are planning an add on but with prices up we put a pause on it.
What do you mean? The price of lumber went up 2 years ago during the trump administration.

@@TheRussianWookieright because of Covid . What he talking about lol 😂
Impressive. But not sure why you used cinder blocks for a foundation. It seems a little shaky.. Literally. Is it in the south? I think 6X6 pressure treated posts would be easier to get level. Just snap a level line and trim it with a cicular saw. Also it seems like you would need some strapping going across the trusses to support the metal roof panels.
The cinder blocks are pretty traditional down here with trailer homes (South Central Texas). There are 32 points of contact so there isn't a wobble, but we will need to level every so often. It's really not too high, about 2 feet off the ground, which we didn't do in the small shed (used only 1 cinder block) and it was nearly impossible getting the plumbing run there, so having it higher makes working on things easier.
I'm interested in your strapping comment, can you explain more? We do plan to anchor the buildings.
I can understand the height for plumbing. But the blocks seem like they're just stacked on each other and not joined together. My opinion is that if you don't have to worry about a frost heave, You can just attach 6X6 posts to a solid concrete block with a post base bracket. Snap or run a laser level line and cut them all the same height. Another option is to dig and pour concrete piers and run 2X12 joists to span the 16 feet. maybe about 10 holes 2 ft deep. I'm up in New England. so we have to go down at least 4 ft. Of course that's assuming you're not in hard clay or rocky soil.. But I want to emphasize that I think its a very nice shed and it appears that if it can be done in 2 or 3 days with less people, that's great.
In regards to strapping, I'm referring to strips of wood that attach to the top of the trusses. They're usually 1X4 lumber that spans horizontally across the trusses to support the metal roof panels. But I'm guessing you might not need it in the south. No snow load to worry about.
@@michaelott310 You are talking about purlins.
Now this is a shed
(In Darth Vader voice) "one door... no windows... your meth lab *is complete* " ......lol! Sorry! Just couldn't help it :P
Yeah, that was very awesome to watch, glad you made the video! My Dad could use a shed for feed bags and farm equipment at one of the more remote farms in Texas, and this has sparked some discussion. Thanks!
hahaha you had us laughing! You should see it now! No longer meth lab status. Thanks for watching!
I need a 16x28 2 story and by myself.. going to need Pressure Treated Lumber because it's going to take so long to build it between affording enough to keep working on it, that normal wood would Rot before I could get it enclosed. So the price of building it will be more than normal. I live in the Panhandle of Florida and No One around here sells and delivers 2 story Shed Kits.. Home Depot/Lowes/Tuffshed. I can't even get them to get me a quote from the nearest Factory/Office and have contacted them several times.
That’s a great idea if things go slowly. We still aren’t finished on the inside but it’s livable! Good luck!!
Where did you purchase your kit
We hired a crew to build this. It was a standard shed they build but because of the road we live on it could not be prebuilt and driven out here. It was a place that sells sheds.
Did you build it or did someone else
Someone else did. The same people that build the sheds did it, but just onsite, because we have some gates that aren’t wide enough to get that size in.
Do you remember how man blocks and pavers ya used
We definitely did not use enough. I don’t rennet but I’d double it if we did it again. We’ve since added a few more rows. We still need more but 🤷🏻♀️
Did i miss something ? block on the ground ? u did pour footers ?
We just used cinder blocks. It’s very common down here. We have made changes to the blocks, we’ve added a larger concrete pad below each of them and turned the blocks 90°. This winter we will also add more cinder block locations.
@@tinyshedlife Cool , I was only asking because I live in a harsher climate . Great work !
Of course, no worries! We’ve learned a lot since making this video!
Don't yall have trouble using those blocks as far as the foundation sinking in the dirt and shifting etc ??
We actually ended up making Romeo changes since this. We built a little berm in north side of the house, so it keeps water from running under the house. We also added 24”x24” concrete pads under the original cinder blocks. Cinder blocks under homes is really common in our area.
Good to know...I was wandering about that...Thank you! ....Anyways Ya I know what ya mean... I have a similar property out near Waco Tx. I was impressed with your property its looking really nice!
FaceMan thank you so much! We are learning a lot, mostly through mistakes lol The Waco area is beautiful!
Bravo 👏
robviolin1 thank you! Such a big step in this journey.
Great video!! Where did you build it? I'm planning on building one the exact same size on my property up in Alaska. Did you contract out the construction or do it yourself with friends? If you don't mind my asking, what was the cost or do you have a list of materials (that would save me a LOT of work)?
Hi! We live in Texas. We asked the shed selling pace if they could build on site since our place isn’t accessible easily. There was an extra charge but it was worth it!
@@tinyshedlife Who was the shed builder if you don't mind telling?
Do they do rent to own with a site build one ?
@@ashleyamodio3417 Good afternoon! You'd have to check around with various shed manufacturers. Touch-Shed would be a good one to check out. I know down here in the Texas Hill Country there are shed retailers on just about every road, and all of those do rent to own. Have a great weekend!!
What company did you use? Link to website please, they did a nice job!!
Just a local shed retailer.
How much did it cost to build
Where did you get the kit from?
Would you happen to still have the material list for the build?
Not hard to figure out it’s just a shell
I don't believe they built that in one day. A besides how strong it is? Can it survive a 140 hr/mile wind?
Definitely built in a day. Did you watch the whole thing?
How much do it cost to have one build. They say it's cheaper to have one build than having to go and buy one.
How much did this cost in building materials? Can you send me a list of all materials used?
I know somebody that build you one 6500
I can build myself thanks, shouldn't be too hard if someone else can do it so can I. I'm just trying to find out a materials needed from someone that's already done it. If your someone can build it for 6500 then most likely I can build it for half that. But thanks

Why so high off the ground?
Dan Grimes We wanted to make it easy to install the plumbing underneath. The smaller shed isn’t as high and it’s horrible trying to work under it.
@@tinyshedlife Jack the small shed up.
Why did you make the support piles so high?
Read down the comments. Said because they wanted it to be easier to install plumbing.
Easier for plumbing. We are also on an incline so the other end is about a foot from the ground.
snatcher420 thanks!
Great video, but if you gonna spend time and money on a big project like this might as well make the foundation permanent unless you made the foundation the way you did if you decide to move the shed
We very limited time and\ budget and were doing our best with what we had.Four years later and still seems to be doing good. Thanks for the watch :)
are you sure this isnt a 12 ft??
Yes
Great job! However, the most important thing about building a home is the foundation, which you clearly have cinder blocks as a foundation. Not very secure. Other than that, it's a beautiful house!
Becca Marie thanks for watching! I hope you’ve watched some of the updates videos. So many changes! Cinder blocks are very common in our part of the country, all of our neighbors use them on their mobile homes and pier and beam homes. We have made some updates to them. We’ve turned them, added a larger block to the bottom and plan to add more rows this winter, once it cools down more. Too hot to get under there right now.
They block mobile homes and storm straps.
What color is urine in diabetes?
🤔🤔🤔
how much?
vladamir Putin $17k including the build
I think it's too high off the ground. two blocks should be high enough and with the anchors.
How much does it cost
The materials and labor was around $17k.
@@tinyshedlife now let me ask how much cost in material alone as an estimate
I’m not sure of the materials but if you go to a portable building company they should be able to sell you just the materials. We bought ours through a place like that and it included them building it onsite. It was about $17k.
Can u build one with a basement?
I’m sure you could. We live in Texas and don’t have basements here, and I’ve actually never even been in a basement, so I’m not sure what they require.
@@tinyshedlife so you have never lived in house with a basement. You guys do amazing work!
@@brentwalton8375 nope! We just don’t have them down here, not one home. I think the water table is too high or something like that. I have been in an underground garage but I imagine that’s different.
Well thank u keep with the building!
You didn’t cement the blocks together?
No we didn’t. It’s not down here, as far as I know. We did end up rotating the blocks and adding a larger concrete pad under each. This winter, when it’s cooler, we are planning to add more rows.
cost of materials today, typical shed like this one...20 dollars a square foot (16x40=240 feet) this crew was paid 2,000 ( they were underpaid) the dealer made 5,000 from the cheap installers labor
16'x40' = 240' ?? 🤔 I be damn
Very nice! What size did you use for the floor beams? Are those 4 x 4 or 4 x 6?
We bought this from Premier Buildings and opted to have it built onsite versus carried in because of the access onto our property. According to their website these are the features. I hope that helps!!
Low pitched gable roof with 92" interior wall height
2"x6" pressure-treated floor joists spaced 16" on center
5/8" tongue-and-groove flooring
Urethane Siding [Metal Siding Available for additional cost]
Truss plates are used on ALL JOINTS for maximum stability
50-year warranty on siding
30-year Metal roof
The 4×6's are the skids that the majority of storage buildings are built on for portability and to get by codes in certain areas that won't allow permanent foundations. The floor joists are 2×6 and on top of the skids...
I am not in the construction industry nor am I a carpenter, I wanted a good guide to help with small projects such as small sheds and some remodeling around the house. So there’s a magic which is Shed Plan [ visit here *WoodBlueprints. Com* ]. This Shed Plan covers all my instructions from top to bottom in a step by step manner.
I would have used vapor barrier before applying the siding.
Cheri Monteith a thing I have noticed that is different is that in Denmark, we put the vapor barrier on the hot side, to reduce condensation in the wall. Having it on the cold side in our climate would increase the risk of rot.
Honestly if we could redo it, keep in mind, we are/were first timers, we’d use zip board on everything and so the build ourselves! But we’ve learned so much this year. As a first timer this was a great start.
That’s really interesting. Our biggest struggle is worrying about condensation. There is so much info and opinions out there. What kind of insulation do you use in your area?
Tiny Shed Life in Denmark “stonewoll” is the most used in light walls, either in bats or rolls, in double brick walls stonewoll is blown in, but paperbased (specially treated) insulation is now also being blown in, as it apparently have a higher insulation value, and is also somewhat cheap.
We have not yet embraced tiny houses, unfortunately, the legislation is not really with us.
Federico Decara okay cool. Maybe one day tiny living will come around. It’s not too popular here either, most people want more and more, but it’s working great for us!
