God Bless you & your family! The values you taught those children is beautiful!❤ Not many children, these days, can say they helped build their home! I am so very proud of all of them. I know how hard this was. We did the same with my dad! Ours had a basement as well. I learned how to lay cinder block! We built our home, barn & milking parlor. Set cedar post (by hand) on 12 acres.
My dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer before all this began, so he was having Chemo & Radiation throughout the building. He was a tough, strong willed man like yourself. You should be very proud. I smile & cried with pride for you. Greetings from North Carolina!

Any father who spends that type of time with his children wants nothing but the best for them. Just sold my home/property of just shy of 50 years….bought the land at 18, helped build my 1300 sq ft. 3bed, 2 bath at 19, and sold it a couple months ago. 😢 Too old to maintain it anymore and kids didn’t want it…..so many memories. The sidewalk I mixed and hand poured concrete has my children’s hand and footprints in when they were 2 & 6 yrs old, 36 years ago.
Seems like yesterday I was up till 2 am with spotlights hanging Sheetrock! 😞
My brain knows it was the right thing to do, but my heart hasn’t stopped sobbing yet….
I hope they love their accomplishment and make many wonderful memories here….i am sure their children will keep it in the family as they will have great memories of this amazing family endeavor.

This video this family shared is very heart warming to me too. But I’m commenting bc I can relate to how you feel. My dad, brother and step mom (sister was a baby) and myself built a beautiful 3600 sq ft ,French farm house, home back in the 1990s. Unfortunately, I am the only one still living now… long story I won’t get into but I no longer own the house. I do still own the 8 acres surrounding the house on all sides all the way up to the front porch thanks to dad 😊. It kills me to not be able to share the house with my children now to show them the house my dad and family built hoping one day to leave it to them. I hope you find peace. The Lord moves us to where we need to be for reasons we may not understand. I say that bc it’s true and bc one of daughters wouldn’t have met the father of my grandson and more… I would still go home no doubt but if I had a choice to do it again, I would still move so I could have the people I have now despite what I no longer have… it will work out.
Even when the house may be long gone someday, the lessons learned will stay with the family for their lifetime

My beloved father passed away in March of this year. He taught me everything just by using me as his helper. I’m set for life I can do it all from carpentry to mechanic work. These kids are so lucky. Someday they will understand just how much. God bless.

@@moseskongi4746 As a kid I helped just a little building our family home and it was one of the happiest times in my life. These kids are being paid by a beautiful roof over their head and the peace of mind knowing their parents are not drowning in debt. Plus they learned so much!
You didn’t only build a house. You built so much confidence, resilience, and self-sufficiency into your children. Not to mention the family bonding, along with the memories that you’ll all talk about for the rest of your lives. Bravo!!!

@@jessepryor They really aren't. They looked So Sad to me. I even wonder if they wanted to participate in this. Every one is saying Great Job. My kids would have had protective gear and would have participated in some aspects. They weren't laughing, smiling, joking. I hate to judge but It didn't feel right to me.
The best part was watching a father teach his children valuable life skills....great job Dad!
I was raised by my grandparents who survived and thrived in the depression I learned valuable skills and lessons grandpa farmed a totally sustainable farm with gardens crops animals grandma sewed gardened canned I would not trade those skills and days. Yes it was hard going out every morning and breaking ice for the cattle and processing meat, so great to live with family that was God first in all their ways instilled values and morals. This is a great dad teaching his children valuable skills and lessons. They will use these skills and lessons throughout their lives. I pray he teaches them God first. Lord God Yahweh The Creator of All is to be respected and loved and obeyed. These children will so enjoy their new home they worked hard as a family to build. It is great to see a family work together.

I'm a long time Carpenter and many of the guys I work with and around both young n old complain, whine all day long as they're avoiding as much work as they possibly can. This is very impressive to see here.

Honestly, the government could solve homeless crisis by making homeless people to work and build their own 1 bed room rather than the amount of money spent on them. But then maybe it's not fair on those that work, pay taxes and pay back loans

I helped my stepfather build and finish a basement in the mid 80s and this video made me tear up. Miss him terribly. Your kids will love this experience, especially as they get older.
As a 35 year old plumber who desperately wants and dreams of owning my own home, this video is absolutely inspiring. I have only been plumbing for about 6 years, but I think I have been around enough new construction to feel confident enough to do most of the work on my own. I would definitely sub out the roof, though.

My husband sells plumbing and heating & air to builders for commercial and residential jobs. He’s done this for the last 30 years. We built one home. Trust me let someone else to the slab & sheetrock! The rest you can learn.
As plumbers we end up doing most of the other stuff anyway, moving studs, walls, breaking and pouring concrete, electricians can move their little wires anywhere, but they always just spiderweb them through the wall, and disregard our pipes that have specific places and grades, and they aren't really that "bendy",
Plumbers, most important and specific job, always shoved to the bottom of the totem pole on a job site.

I'm a former teacher turned homeschooling mom and I am just thinking of everything your children learned in this process. Hands-on, project-based learning for the win.
Homeschool parent here: the amount of math and science involved in building a home and installing everything related to it is insane to think about. Throw in mechanics and equipment repair/operation and kids will know more in a few years than all 12 years of “normal” schooling combined! Not to mention everything else these kids learned. I can only imagine the pride and self esteem they have saying “I built that!”

I began teaching my trade to my 15 year old this summer. He is highly gifted and they won't allow him to go to the trade schools for electives. He has always helped me fix things around the house, cars etc. His second day he looks up and says, "I just realized I have learned more valuable information in two days with you than in all the years of education."
Team work, trust, many of trades, love of family, adaptability, basic math, geometry, adversity, troubleshooting, conflict resolution, the list goes on and on. More than what sitting in a classroom will teach you.

My father, a school teacher, built his own house when I was twelve years old. It was a kit house from Lowes. It took a long time and was a lot of hard work, but I learned valuable lessons that have lasted a lifetime!! It's really inspiring to see you all working together as a team

We were saying the same thing. Think of all of the stupid classes we were forced to take in high school and college yet they could be actually turning out well rounded young adults by teaching things like this, gardening, medic level first aid, food preservation, growing a medicinal garden,etc. as electives.

Fantastic. Some of my fondest memories were installing roofs and building lofts with my dad. Some bad memories, too, but it can’t all be fun. It’s important for a child to see how much work these things take. That hard work is why we don’t take the things we have for granted.

I designed and built my house almost exclusively on my own. 2,000 sq ft with a 2000 sq ft finished basement, with a 2000 sq ft pole barn, on 20 acres, 7 acres I cleared and graded. I did not drill my well nor lay carpeting. It took me 2-1/2 years working evenings and weekends, cost $60,000 and.is currently valued at $500,000. Well worth the sweat equity and remaing debt free.

They ask instead of telling lol which I’m not sure how you could reinforce an older kid to do something if they’ve never been told to do anything and never had consequences for not doing it, it needs to start at toddler age

When I was 10 years old, 62 years ago, my family built a home too. Us three kids helped with the build too and it definitely made us appreciate where we lived! I'm very grateful for those life lessons.
I'm a grandfather and I raised my grandson on my own from the time he was 3 years old he is now 13 and I have always told him you want to be the man that built the bridge not the man that lives under the bridge

Agree but I doubt this is "their home". It seems dad (and this channel), sells these kits and this is somewhat of an infomercial about it. That's not to diminish the obvious great parenting in any way ... these kids will grow up confident and happy and the family will be strong. I live in the log house my mom and her friends built when I was 5. Anyone can do it. The only electricity we had was 1 light in bathroom and the water heater and stove. We used kerosene lamps everywhere else.In 1987 we added electrical outlets.It wasn’t anything fancy but we were a family and had our own home. I bought the house 25 years ago and remodeled it and added on to it.
You can do it if you choose to. Just make up your mind to do it. I usually make a list of goals for things that are overwhelming to me so that I can focus on one thing at a time. Whether it be saving money and how to go about that or listing what you are able to do on the house build verses contracting the work out for the stuff you don't want to do. We are rooting for you!
You have not only built a home but you have also built resilience and ethics for work and the satisfaction of doing something good in the mind and heart of your children, God Bless you and your family

In my state, we have agriculture for 2 years which includes greenhouse work, building trades which is what you see here. What kind of schools are in your area? Not sure water purity warrants its own class but I do belive chemistry covers it pretty well. You can take home economics which shows them how to boil water. Take that principal and add in a condensation catch and you can funnel out some pretty clean water I would think. Ands like Emily below says, they have an auto class in school too.
This is a great dad and family. Those kids learned a lot and will have skills they can use forever. There needs to be more dad's like this.

I listened to myself or people that were positive, not the mindless drones. I've been working since I was a teenager with a focus of frugality engrained in me to this day. I enlisted in the Air Force at 18, retired after 21 years. Worked another 17 years in corporate America and I'm now retired again at 56. Don't associate yourself with negativity. Associate yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ.

The family dynamic is amazing. Only a few moments of kids needing instructions but mostly independently working. Every child has a job specifically for them. You teaching them the trades and paying them has planted the seeds for them to be self sufficient and successful ❤️

You seem to have forgotten all the permits and fees that have to be paid to government paracite workers long before 1st scoop of dirt is shoveled. Realistic wise? A no frills brand new 1,500sft home starts at around $250,000+ ( on small lot) in states with modest lot prices and modest paracite money grabber fees to actually build a house.
Absolutely no reason. I have just broke into the bottom of middle income and own 3 rental properties and my own home and 3 vehicles. We don’t live like the jones and buy nearly everything used. Most people’s problem is buying things they don’t need and could live without.

@@Trill4life777 I have NOTHING to do with other ppl's kids. MINE are 34, 35 and 36 years old. TWO ✌️ are military veterans, one is an optometrist. I have 8 grandchildren, the oldest is 20 and about to become a pharmacist. MINE are doing just fine lol. Not sure how other ppl's kids are "my fault"? 🤔

My family built our home that I grew up in and they still live in today. I'm now 48, we have lots of pictures of my brother and myself around 8 and 9 years old working one the house. I learned so much from that experience. There's not much I figure out or fix. I've moved a lot in my life and I'm I've always helped my neighbors out fixing or helping them build things. When they ask how I know all this stuff I tell them I've been doing it since I was 8 lol. They often don't believe me till I proudly show them pictures.
This is a forever memory. This is the kind of world God wanted us all to experience. Simply have wonderful memorable times together as families.

My dad and I built our (well, my) first house during summer break when I was 13 years old. 1600 sq ft addition on a 960 sq ft house built in 1906. I framed quite a few houses in my teens, worked as an independent home inspector for ten years, and am now a city code inspector. Forever grateful for the time we worked on that house, and the stories and experience that came from it. Great job with what looks like a great family. Happy for you all.

You should assume there were tantrums, ungratefulness, etc. That's normal, and it's seeing a project like this through to the end that helps give them perspective on those moments. You should also assume the dad yelled and got angry a few times. Good families don't live in perfect harmony. They just know how to resolve conflict and move on towards their common goal/values.

This is something none of them will ever forget, they will have so much pride in their home, most likely will never do something to ruin the house because they know how hard it was to build. They will all probably grow up to build their own homes.
I'm so glad to see that you included your daughters, young ladies need to know the basic of home repairs too. That way some joker can't come along and overcharge them for easy repairs they could do themselves. Trust me it happens. Now you just have to teach the kids how to cook, they'll use it everyday!
I have no idea why this video happened to come up in my recommended watch list - but I'm glad it did. I ended up watching it in its entirety. Its a little late now, but put the trusses on the walls upside down and them flip them upright once they are on the walls.
This is the way. Use a long 2x4 with a 2ft long 2x4 block nailed to it at the end like a pair of scissors when they are almost closed for your "truss flipper" . Its much easier that way...

man, brings back memories. as a kid my family did residential construction. the smell of the wood, nails, saw dust, sheet rock, the dropping and jingle of the nails and screws. the echoes and sawing sounds. i miss it so much. i wish i would have stayed in it. these kids are gonna remember this for the rest of their loves. its awesome.

I remember I built a front porch for a lady who lived in a double-wide, and was too hard for her to get out. So we made a nice porch with a ramp for her. I felt so much pride in the finished product. These kids are going to feel an immense amount of pride and you better believe they are going to take great care of this house when they are doing their chores and what have you... God bless em
When I was 12 we built a 2400 sqft split-level ourselves. My dad, mom, me and my younger sister put in all the work after the foundation was poured. I TOTALLY agree about hiring a professional for that part. That house still stands today and if you were to pull out all the sheet rock in what was my bedroom you’ll see my signature and the date on every stud. The experience was invaluable to me. I have never forgotten the skills my daddy taught me. Great job, Dad!!!!! Your kids have learned skills and values that will be with them for the rest of their lives.
