I consider myself a jack of all trades but This dude is literally a master of all trades! I wonder if people realize the amount of skill it takes to do all of these sufficiently. Cement, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, sheetrock, flooring, etc...really is amazing.
I’m my opinion everyone should be taught this in school.. it should be a standard class for everyone. My pop built our house from the shell of a burnt mobile home and taught me how to run wires and use a breaker box, pour cement, etc so now it’s all common sense to me. I am truly grateful for the skills that I have. It makes it super easy to find a job that I find really easy since I’ve been doing that my whole life
Well , having been involved with building many homes and then finally building my own home, i can say that you dont need to be a master at any of the skills that you mentioned to build a home, you just have to be competent with a few of them, for instance, the metal roof is as easy a job as anything is. and i'm not sure of the building method he is using im assuming its a form of styrocrete, but kind of like legos. i've built homes using SIPS and hollow styroblock that is later filled with steel and then poured and kind of the same methods. and i'm sure he had his learning curve with a few things. The admirable part of the whole thing to me is that he is showing the initiative to actually take part in the quality of his and his families future. from the radiant floor heat, to the high quality filtration for his water he is showing that he is conservative with resources and careful about his an their health, i wish him and his family many good years knowing his family /parents/whomever lives in the home the home that he can tell his kids, "daddy and mommy built this house" oh. and the key to his success may just be the partner who has been willing to learn the same skills as he has. That is a a rarity in todays world.
I'd bet the farm there was lots of TH-cam watching before each new task. And then, during each task. I'm not denigrating their work at all. I just feel sure they didn't have these skills from the start. But it is how we learn. My only disappointment was the lack of an exterior finish.
@centexan As a skilled tradesman myself I think your assumption is incorrect. This guy definitely has the skillset for his build. I've seen other couples on TH-cam where they seen allot of how to videos and it shows in their build quality big time. From using the right materials and the right tools this guy definitely knew what he was doing.
House is nice, but elderly may have a problem walking up the stairs, or reaching up as to open cabinets in the kitchen very high under the ceiling. Imagine yourself being old and frail.
@@awiercioch1 I'm into house building since the 40's, there's practically EVERYTHING falling out of safety rules in that house. Guess I would never have a house like this.
Back in 1978 when I was only in 4th grade. My father, who was an aerospace engineer, fulfilled a life dream of his by moving us to a much less populated area in California, where he purchased a mobile home and a 1.1 acre lot and we lived in the mobile home while he built a house that he designed BY HIMSELF. He did later hire one guy to help him with framing, hanging drywall, and installing the roof tile along with some other misc stuff, and he hired a local cabinet maker to make the cabinets but other than that, he did everything else by himself. We thought he was nuts ... but now I definitely see the appeal in building your own home ... and the fact that you two work so well together is just icing on the cake. Nice video and nice home!
@@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 I got my first degree in electronics, but then went into IT professionally as computers were my hobby since I was 12. I was fortunate enough that my parents could afford to get me a computer back then and I went nuts with it. Taught myself how to program and even learned how to make some electronic modifications to the Commodore back in the 80s. Network Engineering and Java development have been my career staples professionally since the 90s. Looks like I forgot to mention that the house my father built was a 2400 square foot house. Fairly large house for one man to build but he loved the process. He completed the house around 1981 I think. He passed away from colon cancer in 1993 unfortunately.
My dad, also an aerospace engineer in Cali, at Hughes, did similar. It was 1971 when they started laying off all the engineers. We moved to Ohio. He built a fireproof cement home by himself and heated it with resistance in the floors. He built it as an arch, the most secure shape in history. He built it so the sunlight would shine right through an opening on the front door on the first day of spring, the solistice.
@@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 Interestingly I thought I had replied to your question, but now I don't see it. My career path started when I was 12 when I got a Commodore 64. As a budding DIYer, this is so pleasurable to watch. The fact that you are able to turn your hands and skills to every aspect of the build, and the teamwork and smiles throughout is a true testament to your incredible achievement! Loved it :)
The amount of physical & digital work it took to make that house, record it all with varying angles and great sound quality, compiling said recording into a single video, creatively editing/ compiling it with unique transitions and differing clips to make a 25 minute masterpiece.. is pretty phenomenal. bravo
This reminds me a lot of me and my late boyfriend. You made me tear up. We had so much fun doing everything together - renovating, finishing a pole barn, gardening…getting rides in the bucket of the tractor, etc etc etc. I was pretty much his day laborer lol. Imagine. If everyone had these qualities, housing anywhere wouldn't cost so much. People these days don't have any idea what "sweat equity" is. They also live beyond their means and in general "want" too much. A small house like this or a simple ranch style house is the most cost effective and efficient to build. Every roof pitch or outside corner of a house adds $1000's if not $10000's of cost to a house.
@@Ryan-hw7ow imagine if everyone had these qualities and no job. they can easily build their own home. you cant possibly think you can build all this when you come home after daily 12 hour work days. also, the fridge and stove are a bad idea. there should always be space to allow for future upgrades or if standards change to the sizes.

I can’t imagine the sleepless nights from backaches for building this house. It’s incredible how much work it takes to build this. You two have done an amazing job and the fact that you can do it so joyfully! Just wow!!
No, the outside looks unfinished. Surely the neighbours don't want to look out at this. The work they have done is incredible and they deserve a lot of credit but you see this with a lot of European self builds; once people have it nice they don't care what looks like outside.
@@philwoodall9023 inclined to agree that it looks unfinished. Great work on the inside but the house looks like it needs more. This is the only video I've seen from this channel though so it may be improved now.
@@philwoodall9023is here people, is how you disagree with people on the internet. You state what they did right and what they did wrong. I agree, good work on their part but they are not finished yet.
I would imagine that there's probably some law loophole that eases taxation on real estate if it is unfinished, there's plenty of examples around the world for something like that. I know there was a subsidy in China if you build a two story house, but a lot of people just never finished the second floor, and pocketed the money.
@@philwoodall9023 maybe they want a criminal to think there’s no reason to break in ?😂 Are you that one guy who reports their neighbour for them not trimming their lawn? Don’t be that guy. Usually an unfinished or unkept house is a sign of low income rather than laziness or a want to create an “eye sore”. Those who go out of their way to make more needless problems for their neighbours and or demand they halt a construction project, or change something, or do something to their “lawn” or anything petty for that matter, are usually seen as the neighbourhood assholes lol. If you think the neighbours care about “looking” at the building, that says more about your pettiness as opposed to their laziness, besides, it’s a matter of opinion what “looks” nice. Now if shit needs to meet the standards of “up to code” for “safety” that’s a different story.

Don't expect to get anything like that if your husband is a psychologist. Chances are that your psychologist husband will be very skilled at finding the culprits for your bad luck...
It's nice also when a couple have enough free time from work to spend on a project like this from scratch to finish with someone else taking care of the kids. If your husband is a psychologist probably he's much better off paying someone else to do it.

As a long time construction worker I have to say this was an amazing project to watch 2 people do. Craftsmanship of these trades you completed with I am assuming little experience is mind blowing. Truly amazing!!!
I very much doubt this guy is starting with zero experience. He's doing it right each time. Not one 'oops' and redo... except maybe where the water heater was placed. He's either a tradesman or the world's best DIY'er. And, he's got tools the average guy doesn't have. First time I cut drywall as a teenager, I used a circular saw. Made a mess, but got it done. Great team effort, projects this big can easily lead to family crisis unless there's such marvelous energy and will to go through the challenges. You even did many things most builders would purchase ready-made to save time and effort. I hope the plot is not prone to get wet as you didn't install any french drains around the foundation. @@tigertoxins584 Man, so many things were wrong with this build and wouldn't meet building regulations in many countries. It's the typical job of making it look nice, but there are serrious issues. Like, the insulation for a start. No wall or floor insulation which will make it terrible to heat. There's some insulation in the loft, but it didn't even look correctly installed. No insulation in the walls means it's just solid brick making things like damp a problem if the house isn't constantly being heated. No floor insulation which is essential for things like underfloor heating, otherwise most of the heat will just go into the wrong direction and heat the ground. No lintels above doors or windows, meaning that over time the overhead load would crack and break the window and door frames etc. Also isn't strong enough to survive things like earthquakes, building fires or structural damage. Ceiling joists were left exposed to the elements at the ends as they poked through the building structure, this creates a point of weakness and will rot over time. Underfloor heating was copper piping instead of a polymer, meaning over time as it expands and contracts it can crack the concrete or split the piping. This is the type of place someone knocks up, looks nice but will have nothing but issues for its entire existence.

Especially the cordwood home you built. That was the alternative home I studied and absolutely fell in love with it!!!

It is amazing how they accomplished all that in JUST ONE DAY! Impressive. Also, that lady has a nice butt.
@@chavorucosnkombies In your opinion. I am also a skilled craftsman.

I am interested to know did you follow in your fathers footsteps with your vocation?
They also live beyond their means and in general "want" too much. A small house like this or a simple ranch style house is the most cost effective and efficient to build. Every roof pitch or outside corner of a house adds $1000's if not $10000's of cost to a house.

I love how the outside looks deceivingly basic, but the inside is modern, well-rounded and amazing! Y'all are amazing!
@@philwoodall9023 maybe they want a criminal to think there’s no reason to break in ?😂
Are you that one guy who reports their neighbour for them not trimming their lawn?
The amount of patience you have for this project is inspiring.

Man, so many things were wrong with this build and wouldn't meet building regulations in many countries.
This is the type of place someone knocks up, looks nice but will have nothing but issues for its entire existence.
precise? lmao its called a measuring tape its not like hes building a pyramid
The amount of planning and logistics in this is the most incredible part for me. This couple must be really well connected.

Nothing solidifies the foundation of a marriage better than a couple who built their own home together, may they have a prosperous rest of their lives together!
that is until she makes babies and hears how much she can make with alimony and child support! enter the divorce attorney and lets see how well this works out for the young man who gave it all to build a house only to lose it to getting divorce raped!
Even more impressive that they put all this love and effort in to a house for "elderly parents".
Building this for your parents was an act of honor and gratitude. God bless you for honoring your parents. P.S. Along with others I found your building and videography skills to be superb.
That's because they are paid to do this and they practiced a few times before making the video - you people really crack me up that you can't tell the difference between an actual couple and a couple that is paid to do DIY demonstrations.
You don't find it odd that everything is perfectly written, filmed, edited, no bad days? Lol. If they were really being helpful, don't you think they'd include tips on the rough parts they ran into nd how to avoid them? No, that's because they don't want you to think there are any.
@@orvil9223 This isn't a tutorial. They aren't showing you how to do it. If they were, it wouldn't be a time lapse. I think we all know it didn't go as smoothly as it looks. We can still appreciate the sheer magnitude of the task and the brilliance. Well, some of us can. SMH.

I was surprised that they didn't insulate the ceiling, too.
Awesome place though.

Not gonna lie. I thought of a certain 'talented' bald man in your first half.
Well if there's anything you can say for sure about this amazing young couple, it's that their talent, their resilience, their dedication and specially their sense of humor, will carry them happily into their 90ies, and even possibly into their 100s!🤣

What made me keep watching was the fun the two of you had in building this house! This should inspire millions of people around the world that everthing is possible when you have Love.
While most of the elderly parents are ignored, put into nursing homes or abandoned, here you both are building something for your elderly parents. It is refreshing to know such good humans exist as well! What a fabulous house with no loans or debt! Incredible!! Good luck to you both in all your future projects.
I don't think those are her parents.... a mom and dad would've most definitely gotten up to give affection before they left, not just a wave 'See ya later girl'.
and i think they would've improved the electronics in the house so the house wouldn't burn down if those were their parents

If you can build your own house, I believe you can achieve anything in life. Housing is probably the most basic need we humans have after food. To have the skill to do everything from masonry to carpentry to plumbing to electrical, that's just incredible. Not many professionals out there who can claim to have such a wide range of skills. Incredible and hats off to the hard work.
it requires a lot of project management and self-educating skills mostly.
you have to break huge project into essentially very small bits of small tasks and research each one of them seperatelly.
then you start from something and just do it..
takes time and effort but in the end its worth it,
unless you have money to buy a house just ready to use..
couple of years ago I saw the same guy building a boat during several years
