Queue the "You could have built it from the ground up cheaper". Obviously I didnt want to build the entire house and yes their labor equals more money. I love when people point out the most obvious things. 😂

Glad the company is going to stand by their product. Blessings in disguise if you had gotten electric earlier most likely your insulation maybe even some walls could of been damaged. Great size storm with the amount of rain and wind to give the bare shed a good test and you found the mistakes before moving any further

Well Jared, the rain storm came in at the right time, since you didn't place insulation and drywall. I can just imagine how much mold there could have been over time. You actually lucked out with the timing. Sounds like the company will stand behind their product and make it right! All the best next week in getting the repairs done so you can move on with your build.

my house leaks too when i get a torrential horizontal wind driven storm. wind drives the rain right up under the shingles in a few places. happens once every 10 years or so. it dries out and nothing gets damaged. worse are the 4 foot snows that sit on the roof and keep water from running off. that finds it's way under the shingles. i now shovel off my roof to prevent that. that door molding needs a bead of caulk. i would fix that gap at the bottom by adjusting the frame. prolly install an exterior aluminum/rubber bead compression air seal around all the doors. since you have a metal roof, not sure how i would fix it, but i would figure it out with some flashing. if you have a hurricane, shit is gonna leak.

Jared, Praise God you found this all out before you finished off the inside, and moved in ..in reality it was a blessing in disguise to have the storm roll in now and expose the flaws in the construction of the shed..and you know first hand from owning two sheds before this one that they do not leak if properly constructed.

The dealers are always great, but dealing with Derksen (the company), is a nightmare.
Same thing happened with my 16x50 and it took forever for them to make it right. They ended up having to re-build portions of my dormers and doors.
DO NOT let them fix it with caulk, because they will want to.
Good luck, brother! It might be a battle, but it’ll be worth it when it’s all fixed.

Yeah, the thing I think it’s kind of great right now that you found all this out before you thought everything was sealed up good and moved in and found that water is coming everywhere and running your flooring and so on. So I’m glad you found these leaky points now instead of later.

  • @holliannesmith1877

I had a flood -- from a backed up sewer line. It overflowed into the house in both bathrooms, kitchen and laundry room. The OSB board floors were soaked, became soggy and unstable. When walking across it, I fell through a soft spot right through the floor. My recommendation - bring fans into your shed, making sure that the floors are absolutely DRY. Then take some semi gloss paint and paint your floors in order to water proof them. In the event you have more leaking in the future, at least you won't have to worry about your floors.

This year we built a 20x60 with 6inch walls, 3/4 plywood not osb, windows, doors, 24ga metal roof, 6 inch concrete slab and labor cost me $35k. I bought the building materials from Home Depot and used the bid room with my building list. The concrete took 2.5 trucks so I would def recommend that you do your homework before buying those portable buildings. We did 2x6 on 12 inch centers here and both exterior and interior walls are 6 inch for wind load due to hurricane prone zone we are in. Interior baths, closets and hallway are 3/4 plywood on both sides to provide safety during hurricane or bad storm events.

That's why when I had my roof replaced, I didn't have a ridge vent installed (which you have). In blowing rain, it will come under the ridgecap and leak in the middle like that. My roofer said he has removed a lot of them at the request of the home owners for the same reason. It can be done but a lot more work is needed. Best thing is no ridgecap and a vent fan on the gable ends. If you do something like that, leave access to them so they can be replaced when they fail.
It's hard to seal it up with a metal roof but can be done, if done right. It's a common failure with ridgecaps. Maybe some of the hard plastic foam or something you can put under the ridge cap that will still allow airflow but stop wind blown rain

i just got a 14x40 Premier metal shed out of E TX & Im on a slop so one side is 5 ft hi on cinder blocks double stacked & crossed. At 1st the blocks were leaning so I text foreman & he came out & double blocked them then they left too much space in center w/o blocks so I told workers to fix it then there was not enough blocks needed twice as many more & I offered blocks on my property to keep production going but then relized 5 might be made of clay so I told foreman & he came out & yelled at me & said those blocks was what I provided & they already lost time setting them up & was not changing them & if I complained 1 more time he was dismantling the building & selling it to someone else. At that point I sat down & said a silent prayer & God must have intervened bc he changed his voice & calmed down. If I would have played his game & got angry all hell would have broke loose. I refuse to give a review when asked by the sales team & also I asked sales person before shed was built to send me a copy of chart of blocks for a 14x40 building & he did not send it. Maybe if I had it & showed it to foreman when he came to tell me how many blocks to buy he could have been more accurate, he was off by 80 blocks that I had to scrammble to order & have delivered twice plus 29 on my property. Afterward foreman had me sign a letter stating he was not responsible for the foundation & said he would email me a copy with the final receipt but he didn’t so I text salesman & asked for it & he would not send it. I also ask for a list of contacts for Premier for warranty & foreman’s boss but it was not sent either. I dont want to make waves bc it has not rained yet & I may need it repaired but I dont know why Im worried if they might get mad & not fix it bc they already do not care or respond. If you buy Premier Portable buildings your basically on your own. I spent just under $24,000 for just the shell w metal over the OSB, 6 windows & 2 doors. The double doors have no weather stripping, windows have no sealant & it’s fixing to rain in E TX tomorrow for possibly 6 days! I know how you feel!

I'd cover all the widows with blankets or cardboard. That way, you can see all day light better. There might be some spots you can't see

Jared , when you were at the door just before you left to go to the dealers, behind you on your left in the video, you can see a tremendous amount of light coming in at the roof corner, that you did not show that was very visible from this angle. Hope this helps.

Jarrod thank God that you haven’t finished the interior of your home before the storm came. You will hopefully be able to have these issues corrected before you finish. You don’t want water sitting behind insulation in the walls and ceiling, because mold can grow and then you would have elevated health issues in the future. Don’t get discouraged…..at least it can be remedied.

Hi Jared, we’re long time viewers of yours and although we not wild about your politics, we love you and your channel and admire all of the hard work you do
I can imagine how disappointing discovering these leaks and the other issues but it’s a blessing that you discovered it before everything was buttoned up
Best of luck on the repairs , thanks for your channel and God bless!

Just wondering if some of that could have happened during transport to your property? Hopefully they will get it fixed quickly and you can carry on with the build

That's exactly what I was thinking... Transport, setting it, and hurricane ties could all be factors.

This was very informative and I think anyone thinking it's a move in ready had better think again. These were originally intended as SHEDS not houses, if my info is correct. But I've seen some really neat tiny homes come out of them. Like you said one should ask questions and do their research. I'm confident yours will be amazing. 😊

Hi Jared I feel so bad for you with these problems (leaks). I am glad it happened now and not when it was completely finished and Derkskin should come good for any fixes. There should be no problems especially what you paid for it. It is a beautiful looking building you did real good on the choices you picked and made. I feel for you Jared and hope this gets resolved right away. Take care , this will get all worked out. 👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦

The phrase “everything happens for a reason” is what I believe. The storm helped you find the problems before you went further. Maybe when they come do repairs it will be even better built. Good luck and prayers for you!

That gap at the ridge is necessary to vent. Check the ridge cap to make sure there are closure strips on top of the roof metal (they stop wind driven rain). Does a Prehung door need a sill pan?
Tip. You'll also want to purchase a sill pan-adjustable plastic flashing that fits under the pre-hung door's sill. Sill pans prevent water from entering the house under the door sill.
