    I've got a special place in my heart for the 3V 4.6s. Specifically your car and Four Eyes car. You two guaranteed own two of the best S197s on TH-cam (IMO). I own one, and the one thing I can say is the best about the 3Vs is the sound. I LOVE the sound! One of the best sounding car models out there for sure. Also, the car is a great example of a muscle car, especially if you're equipped with 4.10 gears and a manual transmission, you really get that old school muscle feel!
    Unfortunately, with all the problems my car has (and a lot of other people as well, auto or manual, high mileage or low mileage), this car just isn't worth the money to me. Now DON'T GET ME WRONG... if you are able to find and buy a low mileage, single owner car that has been babied and garage kept, all maintenance kept up, you're in luck, and you'll have yourself a great car. But even so, I've met a couple people that had transmissions go out, misfiring problems without any codes, or throttle bodies going bad under 75K miles. With these cars it's really a gamble on buying one that isn't broken from factory. You either get a good one or you get a bad one. I unfortunately got a bad one. But it's a 4 owner car that's been through 5 states, beaten the shit out of (clearly by the previous owners absolute idiocy) with 173K miles on the dash now. I should be grateful it still runs.
    Sadly, I find it REALLY hard to justify putting thousands of dollars into the car to fix it, especially when it's coming up on 200,000 miles and these cars don't make it past 250,000. I'm looking at a $1000 transmission rebuild (still drivable, even raceable, but really shitty feeling of a transmission with a bad 3rd gear), $700 timing kit (recommended to be replaced around 175K miles), $500 clutch kit, absolute shit brakes that nearly kill me in desperate need of upgrade which is roughly $500, $300 set of fuel injectors, and $300 cold air intake because mine continues to give me problems. Also short throw shifter is $300, but that is not a necessity, just a want for daily driveability because the stock shifter for the TR-3650 is seriously sloppy, clunky, and a terrible experience to drive with. But not a necessity per say so let's scratch that off. To get to the point, if I want to get my car back to the 3V glory, back to running strong, back to being fun for goodness sake, I'm looking at over $3000. And I still owe $5000 on my loan because I idiotically decided to finance a car that had 159K miles on it (at the time of purchase) with all the problems it had lol. So $9000 car, already spent $1000 in maintenance and repairs so far, need to spend $3000 to get it back to normal, I'm at $13000 for a car that barely makes 290 WHP (after CAI, exhaust and tune) and most 1st Gen 5.0s are going for around $15K. I simply can't justify that. I could've put my $2500 down payment on a 5.0 and got 380WHP STOCK, more reliable, less mileage, less problems, better interior, 6th gear, better brakes, still shitty transmissions. But what can ya do? Yes I would be paying an extra $200 a month on car payments and an extra $100 on insurance, but hell at least I'm putting it towards that and not repair costs....
    SHIT, this is a REALLY long, almost useless comment, and I feel like I kinda just vented my problems and hate for MY specific car, but man oh man. I LOVE these 3Vs, but with my lifestyle, this car ain't for me. There's so many better options out there for slightly more money. If I had thousands of dollars to put into this car, I would buy a used low mileage engine, a T-56, build the engine, supercharge that bitch and I would own one of the baddest, best cars out there, but I'm not rich and that's not a realistic expectation lol. I'll just sit down and watch your videos and enjoy that 3V content from behind the computer. Thank you 😂

      It's a long comment but you summarize the dilemma that us 3v owners all face. Well said, it just means you have a good head on your shoulders understanding how expensive it is to build one of these cars and how much needs to be done with them. At the end of the day you pour thousands of dollars into a depreciating asset. Financially it doesn't make sense, but maybe for those brief moments driving that machine that you built it's worth it🤙🤙

    I'm doing modern restoration to my 09, has 32k original miles on it. all it needs is hoses replaced, coolant flushed, those door pieces glued on (I really need to figure out who sells a GOOD glue and yeah I know about 3M I use that on my apholstery in my vw bug), and the rear all around the rear window should be re-painted just to save it from rusting, no rust on mine at all tho' I will have to touch up paint it or get it re-painted. As you went through your mods, I found myself saying "I have that". I did miss the type of cams you have. I also have the 60# DeatschWerks injectors, aluminator shortblock,but pretty much everything else is similar. I do have to 5 speed, no auto for me. I have the Vortech V3 HO kit, stock pulley I think is putting out around 12psi. I got 741/663 out of it. I am running the 127650 cams, heavy springs, but keep dropping valves. First was #6, then #5 after rebuild and 800 miles. So, so far I have not had the luck you have had, it is currently broken down now, about to reassemble this month.

    • @CamMarz
      @CamMarz  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a badass build! You might need some new retainers or guides for the valves potentially, because the heavier springs can only do so much. Are you revving really high? Cause normally 3v's don't have any valve issues until they start floating past 6500

The 09 iteration of these cars is arguably the best because they snuffed out most of the problems that these cars had in the earlier years of production.

    The crazy thing you could have found a car with most this junk already done for not much more than what you paid for this car and saved $20,000. And it was nutty to spend all that money and not upgrade the brakes and stereo. At least paint the brake calipers. Seems like he left off the cost of the painting too, so add $1000 for that. And the labour for installation.. thats probably a few thousand more.
