I've listened to several videos of 3-valves with these Detroit Rocker cams and almost regret going with my Comp Cam Stage 2 XFI NSR 127200 cams that were designed for higher peak hp and forced induction. The Detroit Rockers definitely have more chop and sound better. I own a mint condition, low mileage 2006 that I've owned since brand new with Kenne Bell 2.6L blower and my Comp Cams added 34.25bhp and 29.44tq. I've added way too many mods to include here, but I've dyno'd at 500rwhp / 453.45 rwtq, (max recommended tq on a stock 3V motor) and that's plenty of power for me. I can barely keep the power to the ground as it is even with 305/40-18 NT555RII drag radials in the rear. Thanks for the video.
This is a lot easier job than I thought. I was honestly kind of terrified taking it on. I had never worked on any ohc cars just old pushrod motors (good old windsor) but using this same method I had it done in about 2 hours. Only thing I did different is I took off the intake manifold but that was mostly because I was putting on the ford racing intake manifold. Also do longtubes at the same time. The car was a completely different machine when I was done. Threw a 150 shot on it now 3 years later and 200lbs of nitrous she’s still kicking. I bought a 2019 10 speed pp1 gt last year. Plan on giving the 3v to my son when he turns 16. But we still got 4 years till then

@@EastDallasKicks From what I understand this kit was designed in conjunction with Ford to be as "factory like" as possible. That said its an Eaton blower which isn't known for making the most power. Its very stockish, even at 500hp its not a monster. It just feels like a much bigger V8. Personally if I were going to boost a 5.4 Id go with the largest whipple I could fit. They make their power down low, but the rods can only take about 500 before they bend. Im on the limit. A good tune is the saving grace.

Why does the timing gear say" L" on it when it's on the Right side of the motor??? Mine has an " R " on the right side of the motor ( passenger side ) and " L " on the left..
if i`m there i might as well do as much as possible for preventive measure,yes you could save more money that way,but i wouldnt take the chance of having to back in there myself when i was in there the first time.
You aren’t changing timing chains, you’re swapping camshaft’s. The wedge tool locks the chain. It makes no difference where you lock and mark the chain, just don’t spin the motor or knock the wedge out.
I have a preloaded remote tune from sctflash was thinking about getting my 08 gt some ford hot rod cams, would u recommend the Detroit rocker cams with this tune or should I go somewhere and get it professionally tuned after changing the cams myself?
How would I get the cams in a somewhat neutral position to where there isn’t much pressure on the valves? Would I just have to turn the engine over until the pin in the phaser is on the bottom? I saw FOUREYES video and he turned the engine until the phasers top dead center mark “L” was in a perpendicular plane with the head. So a roughly 2 o clock position. Or just visuallly look and see until most of the lobes aren’t touching the rocker arms.
Great video but with that many miles wouldn't it be better to install a new timing chain and tensioners? I have a 09 Shelby GT500 with 37k miles, and a 08 Shelby GT350 with 120k miles, its not as fast as the 09 and was thinking of doing some mods to make it faster.

Did same thing with my 08 GT, only issue Iv had is the Howard rattler cams I got are just shy of a 1/3 of a inch shorter than stock cams. Cam sits fine just the phaser is pulling timing chain close to the firewall of the engine, I have maybe 2/10s of a inch clearance compared to almost a half inch with the stock cams..

I'd imagine there should be a "neutral rest position" for the cams to where they aren't pushing down the valve springs. But who am I kidding? I'm not camming my 3V... I'm coyote swapping it...

I never liked the 281. I was a little more partial to the 5.0 Fox body the original 302. Because I had one in high school and there was no way to match that sound. But even that doesn't come close to the visceral sound and feel of a 427 big block with a flat tappet camshaft and a manual transmission. I wish that Ford would get rid of these garbage modular Motors and go back to a big block pushrod V8 with a flat tappet camshaft. I want to hear a big block V8 with a choppy cam. And for god sakes I wish Ford would get rid of all of this airbag this and airbag that and making cars out of plastic. Go back to a solid frame and solid steel body with a rigid front end that can actually survive a slight fender bender and still be able to drive home. I wish cars were built rigid and solid like they used to be. I just can't get behind the new Mustang 5.0 it sounds like shit it's not even a real 5.0. Not to mention the fact that it doesn't have a pushrod V8 or a flat tappet camshaft. It just don't have that old school American Muscle feel. It's a plastic car with a garbage motor. I also am not a fan of the new Dodge Demon . Number one, it's plastic. Number 2 , the engine just sounds two tame and two stock. I understand that it's supposed to be almost 1100 horse but if you got an 1100 horsepower car that car should shake the ground like a NASCAR and have a very choppy Idle with a big flat tappet cam. And the problem is the car is too quiet too tame and it just sounds too stock. If a car has a lot of horsepower it should sound like it's got a lot of horsepower.

i still can't understand why you or anybody else would put up with that bullshit just for the noise. at least be smart enough to figure out on how to lower the damn idle might sound better if that is all you really want. to let you all know that's why EFI sucks ass.

Im looking at having to do a head gasket job on my 5.4 3v F150. Its supercharged and Id love to put the FRPP cams in it while its apart.

If you're having or had this issue its probably timing that's off or a sensor you forgot to plug back in.

@@hithereperson8137tuner could be reason you didn’t make more power. With ported heads you should’ve been in 360-380 range with mods you did.
