    In this video I'm going to be replacing the spark plugs in my Audi tt mk2 ea113 bwa engine and check timing chain stretch on another Audi tt mk2 with a ea888 ccza engine which has a engine rattle. But after filming we are looking into seeing if its waste gate rattle on the turbo which we will do in another video before it goes to a garage.

    I started getting this sound shortly after after changing from an axx to a bwa in my MK5, and my initial thought was that it's the oil pump chain. It might be worth checking the state of the balance shafts and even have a vis freewheel installed.🤔

    • @CarChris82
      @CarChris82  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its not on my bwa its on my friends ea888 engine it was wastgate rattle which you can get a clip I did a update vid of it 👍🏻thanks for your input and the balance shaft can be a big problem like you said the vis freewheel is the way to avoid that

    good job mate,Im a master mechanic and have been in the trade 30 years but i just bought my first ever Audi last week, after years of bloody fixing German cars and swearing id never buy one i bought a 2008 TT 2.0 TFSI with the DSG box this week .
    Ive had a few issues like discovering the previous owner has decatted it causing a low Catalyst efficiency warning and EML to come on...Cant find a cheap 2nd hand 8J TT cat anywhere .
    Broken parcel shelf...fixed
    rear fog light full of water...fixed
    Left flappy paddle was broken and fell off lol..previous owner had glued it to the steering wheel lol
    i need to service the engine and dsg box now sigh...it was cheap so cant complain

    Just bought the $10 wastegate actuator arm clip for this exact noise 🤣. Had the hardest time finding the exact noise I was getting on a youtube video/google. It’s arriving in a few days, but my question to you would be where can I read about actually “installing” it on a quattro ? I’ve read it’s a pain compared to the fwd but have yet to find any videos/forums to follow.

    hi did you finally fix the issue?my TTS had the same noise from day one...dealership kept it for 2 weeks trying to find out where the noise comes from. Finally they told me that this is from the chain of the oil pump and that according to AUDI this is normal. They even brought another one to hear and convince me that it makes the same noise and it did. I am now at 76000 km, the noise is always there at low rpm when changing the throttle angle(accelerating or decelerating) . Many other problems faced with the car but nothing linked to the noise...

      If yours is a tts its a different engine it's a ea113 same as mine im at 120,000 miles and doesn't make that noise.we did sort the noise out on Robs car it was a rattling waste gate on the turbo which was fixed with a £10 clip check out the updated video of this 👍🏻

    I assume this ea888 also has the short cam timing chain on the right hand side of engine. Is there no obd11 block to measure that?

    • @CarChris82
      @CarChris82  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately not the ea888 only has the chain on the left that goes around both the camshafts unlike the ea113 that has the belt on the left and the small chain that connects the camshafts on the right

    My TTS mk2 makes exactly the same noise, I've done cambelt, tensioner, auxiliary belt, fuel cam the lot.... I think it just the way the engine works...tappy and ticky..mines on a stage 2 and had no problems....the only thing it might be is the auxiliary belt tensioner, one of the bearings might be on the way out, but until it starts slipping it won't be an issue.
    If you do get to the bottom of please do update on your channel and the ttforum...as like you it is doing my head in

    • @CarChris82

      Anti-seize can act as a lubricant, altering torque values up to 20 percent, increasing the risk of spark plug thread breakage and/or metal shell stretch. ... Do not use anti-seize or lubricant on NGK spark plugs. from NGK

      @@CarChris82 I have a similar noise on my TT. Mine is a 2015 so I am not sure whether this is the same triple 8 lump. My original thinking was the turbo wastgate actuator arm which does have some play in it (including the actual wastgate arm). Took it to the dealer and they said the play is normal (due to allowances for heat expansion) so probably not wastegate related issue (although this goes against the internet knowledge, including the humble mechanic on TH-cam which suggest that there should be no play at the wastegate arm itself, although the actuator arm play is common). Not sure whether to trust the dealer but I digress. What might be interesting for you to know is that the dealer said my noise is from the VVT actuation, which again is normal. On that note, did you manage to diagnose this issue? If not, the VVT might be a good a route to explore? Also, I have the same EVAP code so perhaps this could be related? Maybe the N80? Anyway would be good to see if you end up fixing it. Pav
