      Industrial Fastener the 3.2 VR6 is a very reliable engine
      Other things to look at:
      -the engine should be really smooth on idle without strange noises
      -use only high quality fuel and change the oil regulalry
      -the car should ride smoothly whitout some vibrations or strange noises
      -also check the paintjob-it should look the same on all the body panels

    I had a 2011 TT RS for nearly 6 years, great little car. As you mentioned I had to replace the Bose amp in year 4 (nicely out of warranty) due to moisture corrosion - Audi contributed some of the cost. I also had water leaking into the boot which turned out to be a known problem with failed seals around the rear windows. Oh, and in the UK at least, Magnetic Ride is an expensive option, it was only standard on the S, not the RS.

    I bought my Audi 1.8 TFSI Roadster in March 2019 a 2012 Manual 6 speed gear box, manual, petrol no problems what so ever but coil pack went 2 days ago managed to get a replacement for £28.00 which is the only problem I have had since buying. It was nice to also be aware that you do not have to replace all 4 you can get them separately so be aware of that if any garage says you have to replace all 4. 38,000 miles on the clock when purchased and so far very happy with it, drives smooth, grips the road well, nice precision gear changing and find it quite economical and fun to drive, good acceleration when needed and certainly a looker, does turn heads. Boot capacity is same whether roof up or down which some sports cars do not offer and the half leather is great so never feel cold in it. Give this a 4 star rating. Debs. Age 53

    The 3.2 is a tank. I picked it up after regretting selling my 04 r32 a few years back. The 3.2 is my favorite engine for some time now, its a tank, it can handle an absurd amount of forced induction if you want to spend the $$ with no internal upgrades.
    I do have the seat wrinkles and have also experienced the window drive cable snap which is common. sitting at 90k miles now.

    • @julianpaublini4744
      @julianpaublini4744 ปีที่แล้ว

    My (5 year old) TTS (1 of 500) already has a creaky noise from the rear left (right-hand drive) and also rear-left Bose speaker rattling. The leather seats are tight still with minimal sagging. I have also noticed a little bit of creaking suspension (magnetic-ride) from the rear-right when exiting the vehicle. Everything else is good. It eats through tyres like nobody's business, so if you want to keep a good grip on the road/acceleration I recommend replacing the tyres every 6-8 months (£120-150 per tyre in the UK). Other than that it is a beatiful "my-first-sports-car". I wouldn't change it for the world, I love the way the quattro differential behaves - it sticks to road at high speed on tight bends amazingly. Other road cars become a dot in your rear-view mirror very successively, I absolutely love it! :)

      Other cars don't suffer from premature chain tensioner failure, carbon build up, excessive oil consumption, crappy fragile water and fuel pump etc. Typical VAG issues.

    • @VioletGiraffe
      @VioletGiraffe 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RandomGuy-ej9gr, any direct injection engine suffers carbon build-up, it's inevitable for this technology. Cam tensioner issues start at certain mileage, pretty high one, I don't know if it's more common to VAG than other manufacturers - it may be. The oil consumption was an engineering fault in early TFSI engines, corrected circa 2012 (definitely from 2013 model year).

    • @RandomGuy-ej9gr
      @RandomGuy-ej9gr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      VioletGiraffe no actually, there are manufacturers who use direct injection and still avoid excessive carbon build up. Usually by having additional indirect injection....

    As a former driver of this thing (2,0l TFSI) (10 years, 130000km) here are my problems:
    -after a while it uses more and more oil (highest was 1l at 1000km)
    ~30€
    -the windows cannot be moved and some rope thing needs to be changed (happend 6 times)
    ~250€ each door/ if you do it yourself 30€
    -the doors would not close/ open (happend 2 times)
    ~700€ each door/ if you do it yourself about 150€
    -the lights burn because the cable has too much power (happend 4 times)
    ~200€ each light/ 150€ if you do it yourself
    -the hydraulic pump wears off fast (almost each 30000km)
    ~400€/ 30€ if you do it yourself
    -the thermostat disables (happened 2 times)
    ~400€/ 20€ if you do it yourself
    -the timing belt uses off very fast(had to chance it 3 times)
    ~600€/ dont know how much for yourself
    i met many people with the same problems, but audi does not see any of these things as a case for guaranty (at least in germany). in my opinion these things wear off way too fast and its not normal. changing is very expensive (timing belt at audi about 3000€!!). if you are talented with working on the car by yourself its way more cheaper, but it takes a lot of time. would not buy this model again. the 3,2 is said to be more reliable, but all the technical problems (doors, windows...) happen there too.

    The biggest problems for me:
    Coil packs fail quite a bit.
    It is quite thirsty for oil.
    The Bose speakers aren't as robust as they should be.
    Other than that, no issues. And I am running a revo stage 1 map so it's partially my own fault.

    I'm currently running a Mk2 TFSI 2 litre, Black Line, S Line. It's a beautiful car. Specific to this review. There are no rattles in the cockpit and the paint quality and depth is exceptional. However, I do agree the seats aren't great. I've had my drivers seat professionally repadded in the base and back to give it a more robust setup as the original was sagging after minimal mileage. The Bose sound system has never failed and offers exceptional sound quality throughout the compact interior. One thing not mentioned in this review is the piston wear on the 2 litre engine. I had a compression test done on mine which found some wear and was a known Audi issue of this particular engine. Typical symptoms are EPC light on dashboard, aggressive misfire and white smoke from exhausts. It's a very intermittent fault more obvious on long journeys. Audi even offered engine replacements for models which had full service history for worse case scenarios. All in all this is an exceptionally well built, attractive model. I've had mine almost four years and is still a joy and privilege to drive. Try to buy later model, low mileage, FSH examples if your budget allows. The shape has hardly dated and sits favourably against the Mk3.

    I've got an MY12 TTS with DSG. The box occasionally finds neutral while driving usually at low speed. I am able to correct it by shifting to sport mode and back again. Nothing show up on the diagnostics and it's not a major issue but it's annoying. Is this a known problem with the DSG. I have only got 46K on the clock and have changed the gearbox oil based on time at 40K km.

    Had a mk2 3.2 for the last 7 years, so far, both rear light clusters developed earthing problems, practically zero cost to fix about £1 for both sides thanks to a youtube video, roof stopped working as the level of the hydraulic fluid level was too low, again a very cheap fix, Window regulator (cable snapped) I could have spent £18 on a new cable but far easier to replace the whole unit with cables already in place (about 2 hours, thanks youtube) cost from ebay £60. had all my brake disks and pads replaced at 70k, it's been super reliable and great fun in the snow, yes these faults are annoying but all have been inexpensive obviously would not have been if I had let Audi do it, would definitely buy another.

    • @danielgaskell5490
      @danielgaskell5490 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      6,000 mile oil changes are an excellent idea! Turbos are very hard on engine oil; $3500 - $4000 for a new turbo, $400-$600 to install a stock replacement. $4000 buys a lot of oil changes.😂

    • @ster9765
      @ster9765 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Official service interval is 105k for the FSI. Half of what he said in the video was wrong. The EA888 engine in the 2010 and up TT is a timing chain, no need to change that.$3500 for a new turbo? c'mon. They're $950 with the manifold brand new. 6k oil changes is fine with synthetic 502.2 oil.

    Alright so I have the 2013 Audi TT 2.0TFSI Quattro S-Tronic Roadster. From time to time I would hear a rattling/grinding sound when starting the car, I also noticed that it was using coolant, I took it into the Audi Dealership and said they heard nothing but they did find a coolant leak and I said to them that the sound I hear is a symptom of a bad timing chain and tensioner, he said not at all. A few months later I was driving and suddenly the car had no power and the check engine light came on. I called Audi and they towed my car to the dealership. Turns out it was the timing chain and tensioner. Thank goodness it was fully covered by the maintenance plan. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw what it all came to!

    Had a 2007 Audi A4 2.0 turbo. It was the worst car I have ever owned. It used a quart of oil every 4-5,000 miles. In fact, my owner's manual even stated that it's "normal" for the 2.0 turbo to use oil. The A4 even has an "add oil" light on the dash. Think about that for a minute. Over the years, my A4 had multiple factory recalls, electrical and machinal problems, and finally a complete turbo failure at 50K miles. I will NEVER own another VW or Audi turbo again.
