@@arisspenjian1220 I read that too, as it is on their own website. I think It would be foolhardy of them to publicly state anything negative on their home site.
The founder of peta has gone on record as being fully against animal rehoming and pet ownership as a whole.
I personally think that a certain percentage of the animals they 'rescue' would be unfit for rehoming but if you look at the number of cats and dogs they kill annually compared to the number they take in, it's surprising high when compared to other non-profit organisations.
In 2019 they killed 1578 out of the 2421 cats and dogs they received. That's a 65.20% euthanasia rate with only 1.1% being adopted.
As high as that number is, it's lower than 2018 where they had a kill rate of 1771 out of 2470 (71.70%) with a 1.42% adoption rate.
These numbers are already astronomically high for a cat/dog shelter but by far their worst year is 2011.
1992 cats & dogs taken in, 1911 killed. Thats a kill rate of 95.9% with only 24 (1.2%) of them being rehomed.
Peta have undoubtedly done good work for animal rights, but their domestic pet shelters are essentially euthanasia clinics

If you admire the work of people who have dedicated their lives to conservation and the well-being of animals, look up biologist Carl Jones of the Durrell Wildlife Conservation who saved over a dozen endangered species, or Dr Birute Galdikas who founded the International Orangutan Foundation, the Waiapi tribe of Brazil that's protecting the Amazon, Sir David Attenborough being a vocal proponent of the conservation movement protecting the oceans, Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson who specializes in ocean conservation and partners with the Blue Halo Initiative, or Steve Irwin's family (Terry, Bindi and Robert) dedicating their lives to saving Australia's biodiversity (especially now with the horrendous bushfires still raging on). These are compassionate people who have made it their live's work to preserve our biodiversity and the ecosystems that contain all life.
There are countless people that I would list before mentioning Ingrid Newkirk when it comes to conservation and animal protections. Be warned, she is not all lightness and compassion, and neither is PETA as an organization. When she speaks about "total animal liberation" in most cases it also means liberation from life itself.

I appreciate the PETA sentiment, but unfortunately animals have no rights. Therefore, torturing and killing them is not immoral. In a world with 7 billion, unfortunately animals have to be kept in cages in their own feces so we can eat their meat. Unfortunate, but it's not fair to deny meat to a family in Asia or Africa because white people get upset.
If you want to torture animals to death, then go ahead. If you don't, then don't. But ultimately you cannot impose your morals on the rest of society.

    • @ncorp2668
      @ncorp2668 4 ปีที่แล้ว +29

@@mosesking2923 1. Animal rights is not a "white people" issue. White people are not the saviors of animals, rather the opposite.
      2. Africa and Asia eat a million times less meat than the white, Western world. Asia holds the highest population of vegetarians. Meat is a higher cost, luxury item across the globe. It takes 10X more resources (water, land, feed) to produce meat than anything else.
      3. Rights aren't tangible. Nobody has rights and everybody has rights. It's a social construct that is constantly being negotiated and debated and changed and progressed overtime. Your ideas of moral relativity are a form of imposing morality, literally cancelling out your own argument, in and of itself.
      4. Various cultures and populations murder, rape and molest...again, moral relativity and "don't tell other people" is a stupid and irrelevant argument.

Veganism is a made up arbitrary philosophy.
Ask yourself, which animals? ---> Why not field animals that are killed during farming "vegan" crops? Why not forest animals killed cutting down forests for paper, toilet paper, etc? Why not insects that are killed when farming, driving, excavating a homesite, walking with shoes on grass, etc.? Why not Humans that are enslaved and/or abused in cultivating cashews, avocados, or mining minerals for smartphones, etc? Why not "pets" that are caged, kept in a house all day, kept on leashes, not fed or allowed to relieve themselves until "allowed" by their "owner", etc.?
The pain and suffering endured by all of the above, and more, CAN INDEED BE ADDRESSED, but it would require giving up things that vegans don't want to give up so they arbitrarily cherry-pick the things they're comfortable giving up, call it a day, then pat each other on the back for being oh so righteous.

The lack of self awareness is sad really.

john bird: and D William: In response to the statements that PETA kills almost all the animals in its shelters, please read this article in its entirety. It explains well the reasons. www.washingtonpost.com/national/religion/at-petas-shelter-most-animals-are-put-down-peta-calls-them-mercy-killings/2015/03/12/e84e9af2-c8fa-11e4-bea5-b893e7ac3fb3_story.html What these claimants do not say is that these animals (dogs, cats, horses, cows, chickens, etc etc) are in desperate terminally ill stages, beyond saving. They care for them lovingly, give them a last few moments of gentle treatment, then euthanize them. At the same time, PETA works unendingly to stop these atrocities from happening with close and cooperative work with companies, government, and others. Please do not let antagonists convince you that PETA is evil or hypocritical. You saw yourself what a gentle and sincere person Ingrid Newkirk is. Without PETA, there would be much more animal suffering, even more than there is now. They have done a great deal of productive work on behalf of all animals. Their successes are not headlines. But there are many. For example, PETA works every year to end the horrible dog beating rituals in Asia--dogs are beaten almost to death, then thrown in boiling water to be cooked and eaten,. Without PETA this will never ever stop. PETA has worked with other organizations and has managed to have laws enacted in Korea to stop the dog meat trade.

I've seen it, and sadly it's even more sadistic than how Ingrid described it. She made it sound like they were being bludgeoned as merely part of the process as if increasing suffering isn't necessarily the goal, but in fact it was personal torture by the workers, for their individual pleasure. They would stomp on the sheep, or wrap an arm around its head and keep punching in the face with the other hand, as well as take their time wrestling its head to make it face them, then wind up and punch it hard in the face.
All of this being said, as horrific as what happens to animals behind closed doors in North America, it's even worse elsewhere -- China, by far, is on a whole other level entirely (and some of its Asian neighbours adopt a similar attitude). It's the country where human rights are dismal, so imagine how they treat animals. I won't go into details here; it has a huge subculture of absolute animal sadism (I mean this literally) you'd think no country would have ever allowed or its people (not all of the people of course, but alarmingly too many) ever think of doing.
