"What would be fair" is the uber-wealthy paying a tax rate commensurate with their financial status. They make their wealth in this country--they ought to be compelled and obligated to reinvest that wealth in this country via taxation, instead of being allowed to move that wealth--which they acquired here--offshore to avoid taxation.
Taxing the corporate and individually ultra-wealthy isn't about solving the huge revenue imbalance by "making a dent"--it's about starting a trend toward more income equality and increasing revenue for things such as education, health care, infrastructure, etc.
Erickson is the reason I will never vote for Republicans. He looks at politicians to legislate morality rather than working with communities to support his causes and values.
Maybe he just believes murder should be illegal?

I disagree that most Americans care about facts. Trump supporters have bought into the idea that the truth is "fake news" and that everything Trump says is truthful and honest.
And most Americans didn't vote for him. Still, I think it would be more accurate to say most Americans don't know what is fact. Even if they say they care about them, they usually consider facts synonymous with whatever information confirms their bias. In countries that teach philosophy courses like logic and argumentation starting in middle school, this is much less of a problem and test scores are higher. We need to teach logic as a core of the curriculum. Without critical thinking, none of it matters and information will not be properly analyzed and obtained for the course of less educated lives.

What I like best about Andrew Yang is his divergent thinking. He can understand and express nuances so thoughtfully that members of both parties at all strata can understand the plans and feel heard by the solutions.

I took international politics in college. From what I remember, there were perhaps only 5 other students (including myself) in a class of 30 that actually raised our hands, answered questions, and engaged the professor. And he tried very hard to get everyone else's opinions. Unfortunately, most people were just content to sit quietly and nod their heads or look at their phones. That told me everything I needed to know about American politics.
Most Americans wouldn't give a crap about it even if you asked them to, and prior to Trump's election, they DIDN'T. Especially Trump supporters, who believed both Dems and Repubs didn't care about their problems. It's kinda funny now to see them shill so hard for Trump and the Republicans.
Consider this: while in other parts of the world, people's politics are defined by specific individual parties and denominations, in America, there's only two, and NO ONE ever makes the distinction in nuances. If you're against a Republican, you MUST be a Democrat.
Quite frankly, we must look insane to the rest of the world for having such a black and white view. Such an "us vs them" mentality. We're NOT cavemen! Stop acting like the fucking world is divided between good guys and bad guys. You people watch too many fucking movies.

I've noticed that there are some people that Maher uses kid gloves on. Megyn Kelly didn't participate in the panel because (speculation) she didn't want to face any potential tough questions. Nancy Pelosi did the same not too long ago.
And wasn't it just special how the head of PETA (which Maher is a board member of) got her own special one on one at the end when most join the discussion, and only participated in the panel during over time (and barely even then)
She had to go count her 80 million.
Usually the first interview person doesn't stay, at least in all the episodes I have seen. It is always the panel and the panel guest that stay on Overtime.

@CD Smith Thank you for such an informative response. But the Constitution says the House holds the power of impeachment. I'd tell Madame Pelosi to give it a shot. There is a procedure for the Senate to remove a member, as does the House , but this would be an impeachment for violation of the Constitution, the Merrick Garland advise and consent vote. As well as sitting on hundreds of bills it's an obstruction of Congress using the Senate rules. Might have to go to the Supreme court but the Constitution does not limit the power of impeachment.

I am not sure whether the trial would be in the Senate or done by both houses. The Senate trial appears to be for the POTUS only.
Stopping the use of animals in biomedical research would be a terrible mistake. If we want cures for diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's Disease, heart disease, Parkinson's Disease and so on, we need animal models. Far better that we stop eating them and substitute plant protein--that would actually improve our health.

Also, get rid of the "Special guest" at the later part of the show. Usually this person is some star we should be falling all over. Sometimes, there even is a special table as to keep their perfect germs away from the REAL panel.
Lets get back to the panel, the whole panel, and nothing but the panel. Or maybe, instead of overtime here on youTube, maybe they could field good questions from email/twitter/whatever, on the fly. Real people's questions hitting the fakes who are invited on the show because they are the only conservatives that have the guts to do so.

There are not only two teams. Independents actually outnumber both Republicans and Democrats and it was the Independents who elected Trump. Independents want to be able to vote for the candidate they like best, regardless of party. I'm surprised there aren't more Independent candidates because if an Independent candidate got 90% of the Independent vote, they'd win every time.

When talking about the transcript of that guy thinking Trump was getting paid by Putin, the obvious thing that nobody pointed out was that it was the man's OPINION. "Swear to God" was just him being dramatic about his opinion. But Maher played it like the guy was certain of it. The lady said that it should worry Erick that they thought it was possible. But it was just his belief.
If the opinion was rather that it should be shocking that the republicans were not shocked about it, that still only indicates that that either they had similar opinions, or that they were not surprised, as politicians throughout are involved in corrupt dealings.
That was a poor bait question, and I'm glad Erickson had the sense to not say much on it.

Here's the thing about abortion: It's one of the most evenly split issues out there. The electorate is split in pretty much half around it. Half the people say they're pro-life or mostly pro-life, and half are (broadly) pro-choice. So even if the Democratic Party went pro-life, the pro-choice people would just migrate to the Republican camp, like Southerners did in the 1960s. So I don't know if it would be a net gain for the Democrats.
On a personal level, I wouldn't care which party champions which side of the issue. I'm pro-choice myself, but the issue doesn't make the top 5 of the ones I vote on. So, whatever.
