I voted for Bernie in 2016 and he lost the nomination. i was wondering "why" they (the democratic establishment) are coming after him so hard (Hilary, etc.) but I forgot that Bernie had "never" ran as a Democrat but as an Independent and so the DNC do not want to back him. Thats very contradicting. A person might not be quick to hate, but a group of angry people certainly will be quick to hate. Humanity is doomed to be full of hate and anger and revenge. And in the world today, with so many people living now than ever before, the ratio of hate will be relatively the same, but the numbers of hatefulness will increase as the total population increases. People are born to hate because they are alive in order to survive - meaning anyone who 'gets in their way' is there to harm you, and thus should be hated. If people weren't so hateful, we wouldn't have so many crimes, wars, and despair in the modern world. We wouldn't have hateful rhetoric coming from our President, and then supported by millions of other people - people who claim to be patriotic and evangelical Christians. Its not that people are being told to hate, its that humans are naturally hateful. Show me one person who isn't hateful, and there must be thousands who are the complete opposite. So, in this way, being hateful is the expected norm for humans; being compassionate is rare and unpredictable.

I think the point is to recognize that we are all human and deserving of dignity, even those who did/said horrible things. With that said, I don't really see why people who didn't know Rush Limbaugh or Kobe Bryant or whoever personally can't say whatever they want on social media. I usually find the social media posts when celebrities die as well as the outrage when people say negative things to be pretty phony, mostly a form of virtue signalling. It becomes sort of a contest to see who was the most affected by the person, people using a celebrity's death to try to increase their own clout.

Fareed is not taking everything into account re: turnout, there are logistic concerns that are easy to forget. 2020 caucus was on a Monday at 5PM after Superbowl Sunday and the weather was shit. 2008 was on a Saturday and had far fewer candidates to chose from. Youth turnout was higher this year than 2008 (vast majority going forSanders), old people stayed home this year. Yes, more people would have been better, but caucuses inherently suppress the 'vote' by their general shittyness (2-3 hours long, after work, very public, etc). Look at historic turnout numbers from Iowa, it's appalling.

What this country needs more than anything else is for our people to understand it is okay to disagree. And just because someone disagrees with you it does not make them inherently evil, or racist, or many other nasty things. Whether we believe that Trump was guilty and should have been removed or that Bernie is a communist, we need to be able to have a civil discussion about our beliefs and find middle ground. As long as we continue to vilify all those with different views and experiences we will continue to fail as a nation.
