Kinda surprising about the Buck knife... I've got that same model, albeit a bit older. Crayon eater friend of mine snapped the tip off at one point using it like a screwdriver. Friggin' Marines... you could lock a platoon of them in a shed with nothing but three anvils and by the time you got back, one anvil would be broken, one would be missing, and the last one would be pregnant. I reground the tip and it works just fine. Was using it just last weekend to behead and clean some good sized bluegills, no problem.

My 110, formally my dad's, suffered a similar fate but probably at his own hands. The blade is shorter, and not quite the same shape, but the knife works for the most part. It's got some slop when engaged, and even more when it's closed, been meaning to send it in, but seeing this makes me worry they won't fix my knife, and just send me a "new" one to replace it.

I've EDC Buck 110s for about 20 years now and have always found them to be the quality they advertise. But I guess something can go wrong occassionally - that's why they have the best guarantee in the business. If you fish that out of the trash, get their warranty form off line, and pay to ship it to them ( less than $5.) - they'll return postage paid either a brand new knife or one that's repaired/replaced to standards postage fee. We were doing a first article run for a well known German heavy equipment company part and the final weldments were way out of tolerance, and I pinpointed the problem with the jig that caused it and told tooling about it. They said it's not worth their time to fix it, and then management had me tweak bad parts to match the print for a PPAP inspection to get the contract. That's what made in the USA stands for nowadays: "let's hope the customer doesn't notice"

As a laundromat owner, I am constantly replacing parts I already fixed. I have three new washers that have needed new pumps within 3 years. I refurbished all 22 washers that gave 19 years of terrific service and I’m already replacing shocks left and right at only 2 years old. The side walls completely blow a hole in them and fail. Definitely a flaw in the cylinders, too thin. The old shocks lasted over a decade and never blew, only leaked. Seems my vehicle parts are just the same. Let’s start making quality parts again please because I’ve had it! 🤬

@@escapetherace1943, I am sorry you feel that way, but Buck's 420HC, while not bad, is not in the same place in the industry that it was in the '80's and '90's. Arguably, the 440C Buck formerly used was probably a better performing steel for edge retention. 420HC may be "tougher," but its edge retention is nowhere near what consumers expect from an American cutlery leader. 1055 might be great for a throwing knife, but it absolutely sucks for edge retention, too. I had a Compaq dual Xeon CPU server for a while. It had a bunch of stickers on its inside. Two of them made me laugh. One of them was just the instructions on where to place all the other stickers. The other was the instructions for removing the cover *placed on the inside of the cover* and called out for that placement on the sticker location sticker. That's like locking the lockbox key inside the lockbox.
I could only assume that the cover was manufactured or assembled somewhere else, another part of the building, or another factory far away. Someone there had the job of slapping that one sticker on the inside of the cover then the cover would be packed up with an envelope containing all the other stickers. Then someone at Compaq's assembly line would have to look at the instructions sticker and carefully place all the other stickers. After looking at several of those instruction stickers they'd have it down where to place the others. They probably also questioned why the cover removal instructions were on the inside.

Nah, in my experience/ opinion they're too bulky, don't slice as well because the blades are too thick, they're ugly, trying too hard to be ergonomic so they're not as neutral, the clips are uncomfortable to hold, and you only get 1 blade.
The 110 is large heavy and single bladed, but it's a folding belt knife and gets a pass because of that.
A pocket knife should be small and have 2 blades, 3 if you like a stockman.
If I need a 1 handed knife I'll carry a modestly sized traditional sheath knife.

Exactly, so many people are willing to jump on a company and or write them off calling their products garbage ( some even spread misinformation) just because they also got a lemon once, but they don't know the circumstances surrounding this knife and neither he nor they have actually given the company a chance to redeem themselves and make it right.
I understand how easy it can be to get the attitude that they should just care enough to get it right in the first place, but it's also easy to forget that shit happens.
The knives are mass produced on a large scale and lemons can slip through from time to time, it is not the norm for Buck knives and they have a forever warranty because they do care and stand behind their products 100%.
The fact is Buck is a wholesome valued multigenerational family owned company who still makes most of their products at their factory in post falls Idaho, many of their knives are fairly cheap for what you get, they stand by their products, and they do what it takes to make things right whenever theres an issue.

My first Buck (~35 yrs ago) was also my last. Heavy af, could work on it all day & never could get it scary sharp, yet a few seconds of use and it was somehow even duller. Snapped the tip off doing some light prying. Tossed it in the tool box as a beater after that. My two Benchmades otoh, sharpen up quickly and hold that edge for a fair bit. Super light. Biggest issue I've had with either (hasn't even been the knife's fault) is lint buildup occasionally defeating the lock back... reminds me to clean, oil & freshen up when it does.

Oh, your French. No wonder you dont know how to sharpen a knife made with old fashioned 440 steel. Dont blame the tool for the operator knowledge deficiency.

I bought a Benchmade Osborne 940-1 (the $340 job) a few weeks back directly from Benchmade (through their website). I was _thrilled_ to finally get my hands on the legendary top-end 940! Not only would it be my first Benchmade (I've primarily owned Spyderco knives prior), it'd be the first knife I'd own in S90V.
Delivery day comes, I'm gleefully tapping my heels mid-air on the way to sit down and unbox the beauty, and what did I get for $340? A freaking QC _disaster._
The centering was off _so badly_ that one side of the blade contacted the inside of one of the scales. It rubbed every time I opened and closed. I didn't even know that was possible (wish I was joking).
This was also the first knife I've owned with an AXIS lock, and once I got the centering good enough so that it wasn't contacting the damned scale anymore, the lock stick started.
Couldn't believe that for that much money, Benchmade would allow what is arguably their most iconic knife end up in _anyone's_ hands without being absolutely perfect.
Thankfully their customer service put up literally ZERO resistance when I said I wanted to return it for a refund. Damned shame.

I haven't bought a Buck knife since the '90s. Back then, it was basically Buck, Victorianox, Wenger, Gerber, or stuff that was way too expensive for a teenage Boy Scout. And everything was 440, either C or A. I ended up buying a Buck Selector because the blades kept breaking at the tip, and that way I could replace the blades without having to replace the whole knife. As soon as eBay came along and I could get better knives at decent prices, made from better steels, my Selector got stuck in a box until I sold it off to a collector a couple years ago.

That Huot may have a nice piano hinge, but I bet the only thing "Made in the USA" there is the damn sticker. Once upon a time, manufacturers were proud of the things they made and they put a damn STAMP into the metal to let the great-great grandchildren know who dun built it!
