Just wanted to say this video was what finally convinced me to mod my GMMK! I even had enough of the neoprene foam roll left over to cut two layers and sandwich them between the PCB and the plate. Also, for anyone doing the case foam mod, I highly recommend keeping the original foam -- you can use it as a cutting template for the rectangular bit where the wire connecting to the PCB will sit in the case. Now I just have to finish cutting the sandwiches foam, mod my stabs, and lube, film, and spring swap my glorious panda switches and I'm golden!

Very clean keyboard, crisp sound, and nice lighting. Maybe when my aluminum Corsair one goes out I might try this. Until then I only have a budget for a 3090 as I just spent a ton on a Virpil HOTAS, mount setup, and pedals.

How much lube did you use on the switches when brushing them, and could you possibly explain in depth the lube process for the springs? I'm gonna be building my keyboard soon and I was planning on doing the same thing to my Kailh Pro Purples. Would be much appreciated. Great content!

Fun fact about these keebs, theyre actually really, REALLY durable, I spilled a full thermos of coffee?creamer on my first TKL i had, and the only thing that happened was the QWERTY row only lit up blue, no ghost types, no tweaking out, nothing. Definitely a solid board you can depend on for some years.

Well this is appropriate, I'm looking for replacement switches (either tactile or clicky) for my GMMK2 and Kailh Pro Purples are indeed the ones I'm considering alongside Kailh Box Whites.
The prebuilt has prelubed Glorious Fox linears which are easily the best linear I've used but would like to have good tactile or clicky switches.

i just bought the TKL GMMK, just waiting for it to arrive. im still torn between 3-4 linear switches. glorious pandas, cherry silent reds, alpacas, or tangerines. all great switches, just hard to decide

it’s really only going to be based on your switches as long as they have cherry stem compatibility

1 to 3 hours for a beginner probably

I saw the box silent pinks in there, please do a review of them and possibly compare them to box reds.
From what I've heard they're a lot lighter than reds, also more wobbly, which kinda takes away one of the main advantages of box switches.
when you put the foam in, did you notice that the plate and the cover under is not fitting all the way in? like a very small gap between them?
First when I used foam that was too thick, yes. I since replaced it with 1/8th inch thickness neoprene
@@TooMuchTech I just used EVA foam earlier. neoprene is not available in my place or I can order it overseas. kinda bothered if this will have a negative effect on my keyboard although its just 2mm. may be it will press fit overtime?

@@TooMuchTech Oh yeah totally my plan, how did you manage to get it out though? I've tried super glue, rubber band, electrical tape haha but can't get it to grip
@@SxpnthR I got it out using a one size up screw, and going slow! But if yours is too stripped it might be too far gone!

This was pretty fire, TMT do you have the problem when you’re removing your Keycaps from the GMMK it sometimes rips out the switch to lol. It’s that to me a couple times and it’s bent the switch pins
sometimes! but honestly, its any hotswap keyboard i've tried has the same issue but just gotta be kinda gentle and you can bend the pins back as well

Personally I preferred the burgundy switches overall, although both were too heavy for me to comfortably game on for long periods. The purples really aren't that tactile, I actually preferred the tactility of the copper speed switches, the lack of any pre travel made them feel a lot snappier.
If you like heavy-ish linears, the burgundys will suit you. If you want heavier cherry browns that actuate higher up, you'll like the purples. If you want strong tactility, look elsewhere.

Ximt Ximt that’s completely false. It has a 65% hot swap PCB with RGB. The case is all aluminum. It comes with high quality key caps, and some pretty high quality accessories. The only bad thing is that the stabilizers aren’t that good (I’m going to replace them). And the board is $180 not $250. It might be different for you but I’m talking $180 USD.

@@Gabriel__rmrz apparently according to their customer support its chance if you get one with type c or with the old micro usb until they run out of keyboards with micro usb. I got lucky i guess.

@@Gabriel__rmrz I would say for the price you cant beat it. the stabilizers arent the greatest but feel pretty good if you band aid mod lube and clip them which i did. I am going to get some original cherry stabilizers as soon as they are back in stock from novel keys and mod them as well. The keyboard is very solidly built and feels high quality imo its worth the money.

Dude. You could have just taken the GMMK foam, put it on your neoprene foam, draw around it and inside the holes, and then cut your neoprene foam with the scissors.

About the same, but go panda switches if you want a bigger bump
I was pretty disappointed with their tactility, very similar to browns but a fair bit heavier and with the bump higher up.
Copper speed switches felt more tactile to me, not so much in terms of the bump itself, but the coppers have literally zero pre travel, which gives them a really light and snappy feel.

The foam mod is not worth the time. Even with the 1/16th foam the keyboard bulges and warps.
