The shots all look so good, so many close-up shots for each step, giving a time stamp in case somebody wants to skip a step that isn't crucial to them, clearly explaining different approaches and differing viewpoints people into keyboards have... good stuff, great video.

I like to clip cherry stabilizers at a 45-degree angle, so that the legs are still there but no fangs. Then put some electrical tape with a dolup of grease on top, on the pcb before installing the lubed stab's. It makes them sound nice and clacky and feel tight.

  • @tannietf2

The syringe one is very helpful! I built my keeb a month ago and I didn’t lube my stab wires well so it rattles a lot and now I just realize if I want to fix the stabs, I’ll have to desolder everything on my board so I fixed it with some piece of tape to reduce the wiggle room. The rattling noise is still there but just a little but still, I wish to remove it entirely. Never thought of this syringe method before. I’ll give it a try. Thanks Taeha!

Great tutorial! I think you can use interdental brush to remove excess lube inside. You just need to stick it inside like your scraping something or just letting the bristle of the brush to stick as much lube as possible then wipe the tip of the brush with paper towel or wipes. You may need to repeat the process several times until you notice there are to little lube are sticking to the bristle then you may proceed with reapply lube using the syringe method. It works fine with me and save me hassle to desoldering all of the switches.

I'm building a GMMK pro White Ice, yesterday I spent 5 hours lubing and filming my 82 switches, I work on PC's for a living and I thought I could do the switches in 3 hours tops, oh how wrong I was! Films added so much more time to the switch lubing process, all that's left to do is my v2 durock stabs, I bought lube and grease for this build, and I think I'll still use the grease on the stabs. Very helpful video as always Taeha thanks a bunch!

For anyone still watching this amazing guide, I have a tip that is probably going to sound like the most absurd thing you've ever heard. To start, make sure all of your switches are lubed. A lot of the time, if a switch is not lubed, it will sound scratchy and make the entire stabilizer sound like it is rattling. Secondly, and this is the crazy part, if a stabilizer is rattling, and no amount of lube will fix it, switch the switch with another from a different key. Once again, I know it sounds ridiculous, but it may work.

You might consider making a build only playlist so that your list of videos isn't full of duplicates. Otherwise I love the atmosphere of your videos and your way of explaining the challenges and techniques involved in a keyboard build. Also i know there is alot of prep work that goes into providing the high quality videos , but it would be appreciated if you would stream more often. 2:50 you can also use a nail clip[per/cutter to clip your stabs. It works perfectly :)

thank you for this video! before i had no idea why people would clip the legs on the stabs. you perfectly explained why (they cause them not to be flat). kudos to you for being informative and entertaining!

I think Taeha mentioned a couple times on stream that he didn’t think it made much of a difference, or was very effective with the stabs he’s been using, so he stopped doing it on most of his builds. Can’t furnish details or proof but I think he qualified that statement with your mileage may vary

I have two keyboards I lubed with 2 stroke motor oil (which is relatively viscous). The first one I did 4 or more years ago and is still working like a charm. The second is more recent and also working like a charm. In both cases I did that without any disassembly and also lubing the stabilizers can be done this way. The result is a much quieter keyboard while also paired with O-Rings for each keycap. Keys sound super solid and no rattle. A quiet "thump" instead of "clackity clack"

I just lubed my first build using 205g0, I overlubed my first 2 test switches but got the hang of it for the rest, I also followed this stab modding guide, took me roughly 3 hours for a TKL, but the results were very satisfying.

Separating the down motion (key compress) and key return (key rebound sound) with longer pause would make the sound test so much better and this review perfect.
We all know that o-ring will silent the compression of the key, but how to silent key rebound?
    Well done.
