  • With the much more advanced Revive kit, the HGUC 009 Gouf is often overlooked now among Zeon mobile suits, but you'll be surprised how this is actually a very unique version of the Gouf - and that's not easy when there's quite a lot of them. Though with its special qualities come some equally unique challenges for anyone considering buying this kit.
    And there's a whole bunch of companion videos!

    Honestly, I say reviews of these old kits are essential, it let's us get a full picture of what we have available to us and also gives us a clear lesson of just how far HG kits have come as of today.
    Basically, it's review and a nice little history lesson rolled into one.
    On another note, I had no idea the Gyan was never Mass Produced, I honestly just thought it was left on earth like the Gouf was due to being a ground type MS with no space variant.
    Or at least was limited in it's production ala the Efreet(The Efreet got done dirty if you ask me.)

    • @HobbyClubhouse
      @HobbyClubhouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the Gyan was ready for mass production though, but people often don't realize that weird spike on the head is only because of M'Quve and other units shouldn't have had it
      And yes, the Efreet was completely tossed aside and forgotten. It filled nearly the s as e role as the Gouf really

    • @MasterSwo
      @MasterSwo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HobbyClubhouse Really? I always thought the spike was part of the "Knights Armor" thing they were going for.
      As for the Efreet, well that should be the case, it was basically supposed to be the Goufs successor. (As far as I'm aware.)
      So filling the same role isn't to surprising if you think about it.

    • @xpluscollectorscrew
      @xpluscollectorscrew 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The gyan got passed on for reproduction although it would have been ready if not for the beam rifle savvy gelgoog taking up the contract

    • @MasterSwo
      @MasterSwo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xpluscollectorscrew Well, if the Gihrens Greed series proves anything, it's that slapping the Gelgoogs rifle into the Gyans hands would have more or less achieved the same result.
      But then, the Zabis outside of maybe Dozil were never all that smart when it came to wartime management.

    • @xpluscollectorscrew
      @xpluscollectorscrew 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MasterSwo Yes and no...the gelgoog rifle was associated with the gelgoog project, gihrens greed surmises that it became a typical gyan armament but that isnt canon unfortunately. The gelgoog had a better generator, ran almost twice as fast, had slightly higher thrust and better thruster layout, had better sensors and was more generalized, the gyan was more close to shortrange with its weaponry, the beam naginata with the gelgoog was no slouch in melee, but melee was really the only advantage the gyan had over it, with its fast footwork movement leg module the gyan was an excellent duelist machine, but not so much a multi front war machine.

    This is one of the first kits I bought!! & Yes while it’s articulation is as expected, limited, the ability to easily separate the joints to paint was nice. Another thing, when compared to the revive Gouf, the heat sword is much smaller, but being one single plastic piece, means you can paint it whatever colour. Goes well with my origin Zaku 1

  • @BastAbst
    @BastAbst 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Y'know, something about the blues being all a single colour makes this kit seem both better-looking and worse in some aspects, but overall I find that it makes it slightly more charming to me! Definitely makes it look a tad older than it is in my opinion, but I honestly see that as a bit of a plus for the old HG Gouf with how it looks proportions-wise!
    Also, damn, those are some pretty sick decals. Sucks that it's P-Bandai, but eh, the more P-Bandai releases that are just sets and recolors instead of new stuff, the merrier ^^'

    • @HobbyClubhouse
      @HobbyClubhouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When I look at my own kit I forget it's just one color sometime - which is the opposite of the Gelgoog from the same set. I've been waiting for the retail one for so long (besides originally to review it) so I can paint it and add waterslides to it to let that design shine

    • @BastAbst
      @BastAbst 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HobbyClubhouse Good luck finding it - and honestly? I feel like the Gelgoog from that set will probably benefit from some sort of camo colour scheme - but yeah, makes sense, the Gelgoog really needs a few colours to break up the design due to how large some of the bits are in comparison to other oyw MSs.

  • @AstonishinEDC
    @AstonishinEDC 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You gotta have this if you love the gouf. This kit has a special place in my collection. The reason... that machine gun. I'd still choose this compared to the revive, but not the r35. lol

  • @MrJhound4
    @MrJhound4 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is a very detailed look at a classic kit. While the Gouf Revive may have it outclassed in most aspects, I think this kit still has value and deserves love. Heck, I'd buy one just because I love Goufs. 😆

  • @azymorath
    @azymorath 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video as usual (even if it also felt as a stealthy praise to the Gouf Custom, since it has the same dynamic shape but with better articulation), but you make me ask you up a few questions:
    - All the whole system weapon/hand swapping praise, sure it's cool but you could just say the same for the majorty of the other hg zeonic kits in a way, so why specifically on this one?
    - You said the HG Johnny Ridden Zaku is one of the best Zaku kits, care to explain more about it? I'm going to get either it or the new Char's Zaku II and both seem very good choices for my "Zaku squad" shelf.
    - Gouf Flight Test Type and Combined Test Type when? (Damn you Bandai)
    Having said that, keep up the good work!

    • @HobbyClubhouse
      @HobbyClubhouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nice challenge, lemme take you up on all the questions:
      - absolutely true that any kit that can equip the hands can use any of those weapons, but the Gouf never gets weapons even though it's supposed to be as versatile as the Zaku. The kit's hands kinda suck, so it's a good gateway to make this kit better if you have System Weapons or any donor kit with similar hands
      - That Zaku uses the early-modern Zeon suit joint designs (used by the F2, Gouf Custom) where maybe half of the joints are still used in kits today, so it was quite good... before the Origin kit ruined the day for everyone anyway. The kit has all the parts of the R1 Zakus but they didn't get lazy and gave us a color-separated all-new shoulder, Also, giant bazooka with new handle made it compatible with everyone

      @@HobbyClubhouse well kai means "modified" from the kanji "aratame " which makes sense in the loosest way since the M-120a1 is essentially modified with a different sight and minor differences for the hizack, the mmp-78 looks quite a bit different from the m-120..everyone makes mistakes though so no big deal :)
