You know, i don't see many reviews mention this when looking at this kit, but there's actually a notch in chest where the shoulder plugs in that aligns with a peg on the shoulder piece that allows you to lock the arm in an upright position so you don't have to worry about the gatling shield drooping when you have it posed. Pretty smart stuff.
I've never minded the 08th ms team kits having less than great articulation, because they are all presented in the show as being chunky and slow, just tank's on legs, as opposed to the much more lithe and agile kits from tb unicorn or ibo
There is a neat little feature that you forgot to mention with the shoulder joint in the armpit where it can lock it to a forward shooting position with the gatling gun to overcome the weight issue. That’s the one big improvement that the MG and a lot of other kits don’t have!
And he also forgot the little peg under the right shoulder polycap that allows the arm to support the weight of the Gatling Shield without stressing the joint. Very precious little touch, for a hguc of 10 years ago.
One thing you didn't mention in the review: the Gouf Custom's shoulder joint has a tab-and-slot system that helps support the weight of the Gatling shield when the arm is held straight out from the body, preventing the arm from sagging when it's in that pose.
This is one of my favorite MS, and was the last kit I bought before I got out of Gunpla in 2010. And one of the first ones I repainted when I got back into gunpla last year. Articulation aside, it looks damned awesome and those mold lines clean up without too much trouble if you're repainting. Glad it got the love it deserves!
So, I had bought one of these as a tester for my first attempt at kitbashing and painting and I absolutely fell in love with the build and look. I ended up doing way more with it than I originally planned. So much so that I bought a second one just so I could figure out how to make it so I could mount a second gunshield without losing the grappling hook launcher. It's a great kit, even if the legs don't move too well. They definitely nailed that stocky and imposing figure this menacing bastard is meant to have.
The other kit was the eldora brute, but no quad legs screw those things! Disassembly alone would have drove me nuts. Also threw in the injustice weapons since they are the same shade of blue. I call it the "Gouf Titan Knight".
For one of the coolest looking and menacing mobile suits in Zeon’s lineup, the name, or at least the English pronunciation of the name, doesn’t carry the same menacing weight
Someone in the comments stated it was an old english for "strike with great force", already check it in online dictionary & yeah the name sure is fitting the unit.
Although not mentioned in the review, the HG Gouf Custom also features a neat locking gimmick in the shoulder joint that allows it to hold up its massive Gatling Shield without ever worrying about arm droop!
And you forgot to mention the little peg under the right shoulder polycap that allows the arm to support the weight of the Gatling Shield without stressing the joint. Very precious little touch, for a hguc of 10 years ago!
I got this kit as a Christmas gift a few years back and it was a really fun and solid build. My favorite aspect which wasn't mentioned in the review is the little notch on the left side of the waist where the arm connects. with the small nub bit on the arm it locks the arm in place while holding up the Gatling shield. Such a small piece of the build but super cool.
The MG Gouf Custom was my first MG back when I was in high school. I think I got it in '02-'03. I'll simply say it needs a 2.0 desperately. The knee joints in mine are really loose, but it does look good.
This is actually one of the best HGs I've built, and pretty solid because of its limited articulation, the Gatling shield isnt able to weigh it down to just one side which makes a shooting pose so easy...after months for mine it still hasnt sagged. I keep it next to the MG Zaku gunner making it look like red and blue onis
Not Just The Gouf Revive, the Actual newest Gouf that has been released, is technically the Gouf Tactical Demonstrator from The Origin. I might add that the HGUC Efreet Schneid is a pretty solid kit too
@@andrewac1096 the most recent to be released as a kit, wich should then be the one from Origin (as I said) That one uses a lot in design from the Other Zaku Kits from the same line (wich I dare to say those in fact refined the Revive Gouf limb's inner frame concept), and little bits from the Revive kit (just the side/front skirts).

After seeing the origin kits at the same price point, this one shows its age. But its still fantastic and a required buy for any 08th ms team fan. I love mine and have it going toe to toe with a RG nu on my shelf right now
I think this was the 2nd Gunpla I ever made way back. I eventually had to glue the hands together because I broke the pegs playing with it so much. Might be my favorite MS of all time. It looks so functionally brutal. Something a lot of modern design lack IMO. Barbatos looks like it would shatter if you hit it too hard. This thing looks like it could suplex a skyscraper.
This is my favourite Gouf design and the fact that is looks so good next to my favourite Zaku the Zaku II F2 Type just makes it even better. I suppose that's what happens when they are both Katoki designs.
The MG gouf custom is a pretty solid kit. While the front waist skirt may come undone a little too frequently for my taste and it will need the shoulder and bicep ball and peg tightened, it a good kit that I proudly display with my MG Zakus, Doms, Gyan, Acguy, Gelgoog, and Gouf 2.0.
This kit was my first ever HGUC, and i think 8th kit overall? HGEW Sandrock Custom, RG Z'Gok, Nu Ver Ka, RG Char Zaku, Strike, Skygrasper, Freedom and Gouf Custom. Yep, he's was #8. #9 was the MG Musha Gundam. Norris had a fall some time ago and his arm snapped of but the break wasn't on a joint so i glued him back together. I picked him first cos i saw an old Top 5 Gundam Fights video where Norris Vs 08th MS Team was #1. The only other entries i recall are the EW Wing lads vs Mariemaia's Serpents and the Love-Love-Tenkyoken from G Gundam's finale.

The MG Gouf Custom is definitely a mixed-review kit. I may have to look into the Revive Gouf-I think the only versions I ever had were the 1980 No Grade and a Fix Figuration set with this and the Efreet. If only they made a Gunpla of the Gouf Luftwaffe...

Fun fact: Gouf is Old Scottish and means "to strike with great force." It is pronounced the same as the sport of golf, because it is the same word.
So "Guff" instead of "Goof"?
Hmm idea for a Gouf Custom of my own
Oh, I see
I thought it was a mispronunciation of "goth", as in "gothic" (to evoke something of a Dark Age feel), but yours makes more sense.
