Proof that chuck ain't the only tough Norris
they dont say anything about it in the anime, so to rationalize why the saber was never heated, i came up with the idea that Packard never utilized that function, as to save power, keeping more available for the ridiculous performance, such as LIFTING AN ENTIRE SECTION OF A HIGHWAY BRIDGE AND THEN FLIPPING IT OVER. No need to heat the saber in order to pierce armor, if the suit could probably karate chop the arms off a GM.
See I never thought about that because I just assumed it was either at a low output or was like the cold blade but your explanation makes even less sense to me because strength is dictated by the functionality of its joints and (i think) its coding/calibrations. What I believe to be more likely is that its heat sword is like an iron nail in that the Gouf Custom is so strong it doesn't need to be melting point levels in order to slash though things normally and so they removed its heat aspect to cut back on deployment cost since its an ace exclusive suit and its not fighting in ship combat being a ground type only
I heard a discussion in a stream that Norris may have opted out of a heated blade because the heating and cooling of the blade after continued uses would reduced its integrity, so using a cold blade would increase the longevity of the weapon and reduced the cost of maintenance.

Honestly to think a mobile suit could move a hunk of road isn't that impressive when you remember that Zaku 1s were refitted for construction purposes.
If a Zaku 1 is used to help put a building together like a lego set, then a Gouf can break it down real easy.
Now, if he tried to brute force his heat sword on something thick like the GPO2's shield... which is meant like the rest of the suit to withstand some of the shock and heat of detonating a nuke, then he'd need his heat sword turned on proper.
@@TheKing-qz9wd i dont know if you recall, but when they dropped that section of the highway on Norris, and he not only caught it with one hand, but also proceeded to throw it off of himself, the entire 8thMS team were completely awestruck. In that moment, with what was thought to be normal capabilities of a combat MS, that display was ridiculously abnormal.
It's been a while since I've seen that episode, but if I remember right, the plan wasnt to slow him down, but to hopefully permanently incapacitate him.
The proportions of the Custom is way more intimidating than the regular Gouf imo. Can't wait to get the Flight Type.

The heat saber is completely accurate, doesn't need a heated version. In universe, it was used due to cost cutting measures. It's actually sub-standard but heated up enough to do the job. Honestly I like the looks of this one over all Gouf sabers.
@@DarkAlex1978 I agree. The beam parts and sword blades that come in most modern kits are WAY too long. It just looks out of proportion if the sword is 3/4 as long as their body.
@@HeadCannonPrime yeah,i agree. I stockpiled my old 1/144 beams to use on everything else. The new long ones look out of place.
@@nope-xe2lx I have found a good use for the beam sword blade is that with a little filing down they will fit in the barrel of a beam gun so it looks like it is firing.
actually the Gouf Custom uses type D-III Heatsword, specifically designed for it. the type D-III didnt heat-up like the old heatsword (type Beta-III and type Beta-IV) the slicing capability had reduced but the tough material in the sword made it still very dangerous weapon in the hand of aces like Norris Packard or Lance Garfield
a locking mechanism in the shoulder joint so it could hold a pose when wielding a heavy equipment, that's an awesome feature, are there other kits with this?

This was among one of the first Master Grade Mobile Suits I ever bought. Makes me want the HGUC version even more so as I love that scale.

3:00 actually Kakarot197, if i remember correctly the reason the Gouf Custom's heat saber didn't glow was because it was made out a more "ceramic" (i think) material over the smart material used by the normal Gouf
My biggest gripe with this kit is the total lack of any marking stickers or decals. Not even a number for the shield. I think Universal Century models look good with a few warning labels and unit numbers. It helps accentuate the more "realistic" military aesthetic of the UC. The Hardgraph kits with all the 08th ms team stuff have AMAZING decal sets.
I see you upgraded the lighting for your review setup. Now it doesn't look yellow. Nice.

Norris Packard's Gouf Custom has been one of my favorite mobile suit over the years, and so fun to use parts and play as it in the Breaker games and Battle Operations games to. Although if a Gouf II were to ever exist, would be just as bulky or bulkier than Zaku III.

I originally ordered this kit to use the left arm for my customized Efreet but the day I got it I fell in love and I decided to paint it.

Amazing kit. It was one of my first kits. Did a bad job though. Now I want to pick it up and fix it. Seem removal, better panel line and paint.
I finally got around to building mine. I've been sitting on it for almost a year. My intent is to repaint it with a death guard vibe from 40k

Just bought another one of these with my first EZ8, Gundam Ground Type and a regular Guntank!
My first model many years ago was like this but grey and dark grey. Had different shoulder pads and bigger booster feet with skirt wings. Have very few models so thought I'd try and look it up
I've always liked the way the Gouf looks. It's by far my favorite suit.
I just got the HG revive Gouf and it's awesome, but man you make me want to buy this too. maybe I will.
At first i thought the GOUF Revive is based on this kit. Turns out it's based on R35 which tweaked the articulation a lot, which in turn upon getting this kit, i was mildly disappointed that it's not as articulate as the Revive.
Also the kit doesn't always be able to replicate anything from the show.

Before I even saw this video I started building my custom Gouf alogn with an EZ8 and I am looking forward to finishing them (I want the whole 08th team) I had no idea there was a modern standard Gouf so I will have to pick that up. The Gouf is probably my favorite Zeon suit so I don't mind having both versions

I use to have at least one Mobile Suite model or action figure from every series, Gouf Custom is one of the last ones I own..its actually the Robot Spirit version..I also bought another model the same time that I haven't put together..but yes..Gouf Custom without a doubt in my top 10 mobile suites..

Bought 2 just so I could go Gatling Shield on both arms. Took some customization but it looks great next to it's sister unit the twin heat saber Gouf of Death
damn I wish I hadn't missed this guy when it was on sale last month
The reason his blade wasn't heated is because if it was he wouldn't be able to beat the shit out of the main character without killing him, which would be boring. Honestly, really good example of fridge logic, something that you go "hey wait a minute..." after the end of the episode. Doesn't need an explanation as long as it was entertaining and didn't take the audience out of the show.
I’m really hoping for an updated hg for this some time soon, and hopefully it’s not $35 like the gundam ground type on amazon right now.

One of my favorite suits.
the issue i have for the kit is the minigun and to glue them other then that, it is very good better then my other gouf with look goofy beside this beast
The Gouf Was One of my favorite Zeon Mobile Suits But the original gouf's colors are kind of bland and boring but the gouf custom not thats what i call a color scheme
It's like 2 shades of blue with black. Not much of a scheme to it.

Surprised the gatling shield doesn't have that much ammo for a gating gun.
Also surprised he focused on shooting more than chopping.
Also yes it is still a UC Heat Rod to my knowledge. They just upgraded it so you could do more than whap people with a metal wire.

Fun fact: the gouf custom (or at least Norris Packard's gouf custom) doesn't have a heat sword/saber but instead a light weight ceramic blade

Man they have changed the model build from the gouf custom I had this one has more movement then the one I got back in 2002 and it didn't have the other hands. Which came with this kit
I love it and own one and R35 variant makes more sexier than ever!
I bought 3 of them. 1 for me, 1 for CHKD and 1 for my friend.
The Revive Gouf compared to this frustrates me, as stylistically the custom is far and away more enticing... but the limits of the articulation are something that keeps me from loving it as much as I want to, and I hate to say I REALLY wish the B-3 got the revive treatment as well.

Hope the 1/100 version gets a 2.0 because the 1/144 can hold the Gatling Shield perfectly while 1/100....not so much.

The custom isn't in origin so there wouldn't be one. Though Origjn does have some nice prototype Gouf kits.

Just thought I would share, as I am new to the hobby as well (6 months in). SD and HG are a good place to start. The SDCS RX-78-2 is a great place to start, and it's only 15$.

Out of curiosity, with how much she likes Goufs, is she also a fan of Mr. Ral from Build Fighters. If so, does she like Ral's Gouf R35 and Dom R35 models of his to.
@@goufr3540 yeah, pretty much, she has so far, the Revive Gouf, The Custom one from '98 as mentioned, and a sort of kitbash between the Strike Freedom and the Gouf ignitie that she mixed from a couple of knock-offs that I had, she also tried to take ownership of my proto Gouf from origin. And as far as Ral goes, I would say she kinda likes the character?... But you can take for sure she likes his custom models
@@UselessFox224 Nice there, forgot to mention the Gouf from Seed Destiny as well, although its color scheme is among the worst of the Gouf models. On a side not to that, I do enjoy playing Gouf models in Breaker and Battle Operations 2.

Can I make a suggestion for your modelling. Since you are already panel lining, try spraying the entire model with a matte finish modelling varnish (cover the clear parts with blue tack). It will lock in the panel lining so it doesn't rub off or smear and it makes UC models look Super badass and very military. Just make sure it is a model hobby grade and not some junk from a hardware store. Love your reviews.
