Today we review a watch you guys have been asking me about ever since it came out, the Bluetooth Mudmaster - GGB100
As the latest addition to the Mudmaster line this watch is placed between the "entry" level models GG-1000 and GWG-100, and the top of the line GWG-1000.
With it's advanced functions and combination of the full ABC sensor package, this model seems like it is better equipped than even the top of the line model, but the lack of self charging technology makes use of those functions somewhat a guilty pleasure, as you know each press of a button shortens the battery life!
This model is also the first Mudmaster to utilize the Carbon Core Guard confirming Casio's slow switch to this material instead of the regular plastic.
With bluetooth connectivity and a whole range of functions, this is my favorite member of the Mudmaster line.
Wnjoy the review and as usual, a detailed tutorial is coming soon...

I always have batteries for all my watches and tools. Even hikes I go prepared to take care of my watch. Just makes life easier if I prepare a a plan when going anywhere. My wife thinks it foolish until she needs something she forgot. She hated how I hate defeat and will never give up until I complete my goal. When I got cancer she was happy I prepared for everything and fought like hell even when I come close to dying I knew I was good and not going anywhere. Being prepared for anything is extremely important.

I have this watch, the G-Squad GBD-H1000, and the Mudmaster GWG-1000 and I have to say that I really like the GG-B100. Yes, solar power is a bonus however I don't miss it on the GG-B100. The price for the GG-B100 is fairly "low" compared to the solar/atomic watches however you still get a big ass watch with quad sensor AND most important of all you get the quality of Casio. Don't pay attention to the solar/atomic babies, this watch is amazing!

Thanks for the overview. Regarding the lack of solar power, I see your point, but you talk like the watch is a toy with gimmicky functions meant for playing around at the coffee shop when you're bored, and not an actual tool. I'd assume buyers of this model either almost never use the functions (because they buy the watch for the looks) or they actually do use the functions but only when they need to - and these are functions nobody "needs" to use constantly, even if you're a hiker, fireman, soldier, etc. Besides, the battery replacement is not difficult on this model and the battery type is pretty common. A solar-powered watch will also die after some +/- 10 years and will require a more expensive/complex battery replacement. In fact, most people probably ditch solar-powered watches when the battery dies and just get a new one.

I've been using this beast now for a week and use all functions twice a day maybe three times depending. I work in the forestry cutting trees down, so using the barometer to keep an eye on the weather, compass for mapping an area and the location indicator helps me find my lunch and fuel for refilling my chainsaw. And I also brought a spare battery to replace if need be later on. So overall I love this watch, and recommend it to anyone who's work is a more tougher lifestyle and don't mind the watch taking a beating.

I have been using the same Pro Trek PRG-50 for 18 years, since I was 12-13. I had to change the batteries once and it cost me something like 40 euros. Not changing a watch like that for just the batteries.

@@Kenar.E I'm pretty sure many people will, and do. Probably most people. 40 € are a nice help paying for a new Pro Trek or G-Shock that will last you another 18 years. Battery lasted around 2.5 years but I have the auto-light feature turned off all the time so that might help. I have owned 4 G-shock watches and this is the first one that none of the lettering have worn off in the 2.5 years of wear. Also the watch doesnt have any scratches despite heavy use. I take my watch to a watch specialist to change the batteries (there is 2 batteries in this watch), and since I spend a little extra for the replacement, the specialist guarantees the waterproofing. Havent had any issues since the battery replacement. This watch is a great watch so its hard to say anything bad about it despite the expensive battery changes and frequency of battery charging (2 years doesn't feel like a long enough time) but my other G-Shocks are tough solar or have a 10 year battery life so that might make my answer a little biased. I guess the only thing I would change about the watch would be that I'd add the tough solar features so users aren't dependent on the battery as much. Its a big watch with a lot of features, so its understandable that battery life is only 2 years.

Great video and model. I do think that the Bluetooth is a great addition which helps make it a modern day timepiece. Battery use not a problem personally for me, watch told me when it was getting low, but everything was still working fine a few week later. It took less than 5 mins to change, and batteries are inexpensive (4 for £5). Remember that all tough solar models still use a battery, it's just rechargeable via the solar panel. This will ultimately degrade over the life of the watch, just like a phone battery does, so it will still need to be ultimately replaced if that model of watch allows it?? - probably a Casio job. Great addition to the team 👍

The GWG-1000 is nice as well, but is just too busy for me. I even swapped the green band on my GG-B100 with a black one and swapped the bezel with writing for the dark bezel without the writing, to make it even more minimalistic.

The lack of tough solar is an automatic no from me, I understand sooner rather than later they'll probably bring out a new GWG-1000 replacement with a new Bluetooth module, but in this day and age when I can buy a GW-M5610 for buttons with tough solar and multiband 6, no tough solar is unforgivable.

    • @hopper131
      @hopper131 4 ปีที่แล้ว +28

You guys are forgetting the watch is sub-$500, has 4 sensors, and bluetooth Low-Energy(BLE). BLE syncs are minute in the amount of power they need, and unless you're constantly hitting the Connect button, the syncs don't occur. My steps are *only* transmitted, or updated when the Connect button is used or the app is opened. Baro/Alti/Thermo/Compass data is not synced.
The white LEDs use less energy to iluminate the face in comparison to my GA-1000-1A's UV led, and I was getting about 2 years for that watch with two sensors.
I changed the batteries the day I got it (November 2nd) in under 5 minutes and with the low-battery warning functionality there really isn't a reason to worry. If you can afford the watch, you can afford installing new batteries the day you get it and keep the original ones as a spare.
GPS, multiband both use WAY more energy than BLE, so in a matter of point of view the solar functionality is an example that some g-shocks are overburdened by features and therefore can't rely on lithium batteries. Solar is their workaround.

I want to make a little argument against solar: it adds another failure point, from a longevity standpoint. Yes, rechargeable batteries usually last >10 years on basic models, but so sometimes do standard batteries. I still have a g8000 from 2007 on its original battery. The problem with rechargeable batteries is finding a compatible spare, when it inevitably loses its ability to hold a charge. 2025 coin batteries are common as bread, the exotic lithium rechargeable ones used in solar watches are not.

Just bought this exact watch, not worried. About Solar as I also bought a GW9400 Rangeman, and have a G2130 tough solar atomic watch. I like the Bluetooth connectivity, and the Step counter as there are times I don't have my phone on me. Watch is beautiful, easy to read and use. If I go on a long Trek I'll wear the Rangeman, if I'm out on the town I'll wear this piece. Or just wear another while Battery gets replaced. Very comfortable and light, damn near perfect watch. I'll agree adding solar and sapphire would make it so, but that also adds to the price. I got mine for under $300.

It's not a big deal in any way. 2 yrs is along time, compass I used a handfull of times hunting heading back to camp in low light, and the light a billion times. Just use the tools they give you if you need and Dont listen to the "fashion squad. Most guys buying gshocks are military, ex military, and anyone who is an outdoorsman of any type. A bunch of these stupid watch repair guys in my town would not touch it, so I was forced to do it myself. It took 1 hour, counting 15 minutes to run to the store for batteries, and 10 min to purge out the atmospheric moisture from the watch with nitrogen in a plastic bag.
