CASIO G-Shock GWG 1000 Mudmaster vs GG B100 Mudmaster - Review by WatchUP69 that's different

  • So here is my first review on my GWG-1000 Mudmaster, and have compared it next to the GG-B100 Mudmaster, as I feel these two are most wanted with regards to their price difference… both are different, both are amazing so this video will help you know what they can offer.
Good to view other channels content too like Watch Crazy and StormRider who own the GWG-1000, so you can really build up a bigger picture!
Some unusual comparisons in this video like button pressure testing, and that has nothing to do with water, so guess you’ll have to investigate.
Remember I am an amateur, if you can do better, then bully for you, but if you have nothing nice to say then please leave a hissy fit of a comment, as I enjoy reading these, cheers :)

    a new watch
The gg b100 mudmaster the sibling of its better known gwg1000 mudmaster keeps my needs in check; changing a battery and not having a sapphire crystal is not hard to live with.
So why did I chose the gwrb1000 Gravitymaster as a new watch
My first choice would have been gprb1000 rangeman, but it has been discontinued without even a second version. My rangeman 9400 is a third version. The few I found for sale were full list at $850 that is now $900. It would seem that newer g-shocks will be going up in price in the future too.. A second choice, the gwg1000 was hard to find with some better know Japanese sellers no longer listing them last week.
The gwrb1000 gravitymaster was over priced, but its convex sapphire crystal, part carbon fiber case and strap, along with titanium parts put it weight at 72 grams and arrested ny interest. When looking in the online market I found at casio outlet a gwrb1000 for 40% off and bought it.
I use three watches for my daily needs. The rangeman 9400 is strapped to my carry bag when I leave the house while wearing a ggb100 mudmaster. For cooking and timing events I wear a 2012 gwa-1 gravitmaster whose both time and stopwatch function can use the full dial as its read out. Its lume is good and I wear it at night but with a factory bracelet, it weighs 145 grams. The new gwrb1000 will be my all night watch. I am a person of wealth.

Here is a link comparing what Casio has done recently with the mudmaster gg b100 and the gravitymaster gwr b1000:
'...carbon fiber - a material that is 10 times stronger than iron, at one-fourth of its weight. Paired with titanium on some models, it even helps add rust-proofing to the already tough G-Shock range - joining protection against impact, gravity, vibrations, and even centrifugal forces to make sure they remain functional in the harshest environments...'

Very nice video Sir, and thanks for the shout out. Good observation that the GWG displays the bearing and degrees simultaneously - I had not noticed that... Both great watches. Cheers buddy :) I've done a video before with button pressure with the Mudman, Rangeman, Riseman and the King... but it's always interesting to see it again, especially with the GWG-1000 vs GG-B100.... I always like to explore a little more with regards to 'VS' and cover the details that aren't thought so much about, am also imaginative and give the other side to the norm.... but I don't think a conclusion has been done using a mini movie????
The GWG is a big watch, so unless you like that size and bulk, then maybe not venture there... think the sizes you own are better for everyday purpose to be worn under a sleeve, the GWG is more about being exposed thus why it has so much protection :)

0:16 I see what you did there.
That aside, this comparison was due for a long time and I have to say that both watches have their positives and negatives. With the GWG-1000 having one main weak point which is the crown as it can be a hassle to operate when you're wearing it and you can break it if you're not careful. The accidental press of the buttons on the GG-B100 can be a nauseance while the lack of lume can put some people off. So there is some trade off in both of the models.
About the module sharing. The GWN-Q1000 also shares it's module with the PRW-70 ProTrek. An interesting bit of information I found is that all the Mudmasters with sensors share modules with ProTreks so there is some cost savings going on. But it does give you the choice of a positive display If you so wish.
Great content as always. Keep up the good work.

Cheers for your feedback my friend, but am pleased I have finally reviewed one, and done it with time too... That module part was confusing hey, and there are more if you did around :))
I enjoy the GG-B100, it's more day to day and has replaced the GW-9400 being open, but not getting rid of it, as it has more plans :)) The GWG could be your only G-Shock, or watch, it has a level of build that would see it lasting for... well forever in your lifetime!

Tbh, I'd get a ProTrek version of the Mudmaster GWG-1000 if I wanted that module as it's much easier to read while being affordable as I don't like negative displays. I do use my watches on a regular basis so want something for a watch that's easier to glance at. Appreciate the support my friend 🙂

@@traviswalker8933 I'm looking forward to it too... but at the moment the GW-9400 is awaiting for me, but have many things going on, and I'm enjoying a slice of the things I enjoy too, which isn't always lusting over watches, other hobbies and family life has my interests too :)
I understand the negative display side, would like to see CASIO have the MIP display, as that can add options to flip from negative to positive... com'on CASIO, listen! LML :-P
The ProTrek's are lighter, and better worn when using clothing over the wrist, and the lightness helps when worn for day upon days, and being that it can be worn under the sleeve means it doesn't need the hardhat bezel protection, that beefs up G-Shocks, and this is more towards the ABC G-Shocks. The tide and sunrise would have been nice on the GWG... but as mentioned, too much cake can weight you down, and with your own skills you can add an alarm to notify you of sunsets, then adjust the next day... can also work for tides, as you can add 5 alarms, so that'll cover the high tides and low tides :))
Simple things are often the ones you use the most... and we still always want to grab pen and paper to jot and number down hey :-P
I appreciate the support too, and your view points... next video is something I've just thought of, think you'll laugh your head off... then back to the tutorial for the GWG with a huge twist that has never never been done before... original content as always :))

I calibrate the compass everytime the location changes on the hands. for example it calibrates in the 3rd hour hand until 5am and then the calibration hand moves from the the 3rd hour hand to the 8th hour hand. after 9am it switches to the 9th hour hand and I believe after 10am it moves to the 2nd hour hand. If you want more accurate readouts inbetween those times you can use 2 point calibration. for example a lateral readout at odd hours instead of finding a single bearing during those odd times. GGB100.

Yeah,no solar in GG B100 is kinda let down because it has a lot of functions and with all those sensors working in there but i will happily go with a possible 2 years of battery life over the double the price of GWG 1000.
In my opinion, sapphire crystal, solar charging,2 extra motors, atomic timekeeping, and a freaking crown in GWG 1000 doesnt justify double the price. Because,in comparison the GG B100 has battery that is not going to be depleted in 6 months even if you use all the functions all the time, extra motors? Nah im good.. its more like a show off then actually being useful,it also has bluetooth for accurate timekeeping, and mainly doesnt have the crown to pull out every time you need to adjust anything, well mostly...and also with the bluetooth technology, you can do something that GWG 1000 will never be able to do forever, you can rearrange the modes and what to display in the app. The one you actually use or the ones that you actually need a lot of the time. You dont need to press 5 or 6 times everytime you wanna use a thing you always need like a stopwatch or countdown timer. In GG B100 you can rearrange to be the 1st thing in the mode when you press it and boom you are in. Thats convenient. And you can just turn off whatever mode you dont need in the app. For example i dont use the rec mode so i turn it off. You have accurate timekeeping and ability to customise with just one bluetooth and that for me is way better than having atomic timekeeping because in my country there is no such thing and im thousands of miles away from it and will never be able to use the damn thing. Plus it take about 10mins sometimes to get the signal and adjust the time according to the tower. The process is slow. With bluetooth it doesnt even take a minute.
There are 2 crucial things i will like to have in GG B100. Sapphire crystal and solar charging. Other than that im good with not having other things that GWG 1000 has. Both has their own advantages and disadvantages. My choice will be GG B100 because i think it offers more for that price.

      Hey buddy...
Sorry for my late reply, have been a busy Rangeman... but can't ignore your comment, as you've added so much of your opinions into it, and this is great to ready on the channel, as opinions are very welcome with me :))
It's all down to what level you want to add to the watch, if you're lazy, then it's an Apple watch for sure, but with tools like these, then it needs to be basic and easy to use, so with these two, it's a line between the watch being self guided or being attached to a device. If your device fails and you haven't all the modes turned on in the GG-B100 then you are stuffed, but you can reset the watch back to factory, so could be a pain, but having this feature is lovely, but if TIMEX can do it without Bluetooth, then CASIO needs to step up, and make it so we can change features within the watch.
The GWG-1000 is using more parts, some more costly to make, thus the price difference, but to someone who want's the ABC side of G-Shock, then for value the GG-B100 wins, it has kept my GW-9400 hidden too, so that speaks volumes!
Which is better??? again, down to the individual, so nice to have both... as for me, the GG-B100 is the most worn, in fact it has become the most worn watch in my collection!
Battery only, well I did a video about this, and if you buy the GG-B100 and need it to perform everyday hard for two weeks, then it won't give up what it offers, while solar batteries don't hold as much energy, so needs solar charging, and if using the functions more than recommended, then the solar battery will deplete faster over battery, then you need solar waiting room time, so think of it with that side added.
Mineral crystal is less brittle than sapphire, it's also lighter, so the choice isn't easy, and mineral can be replaced with sapphire if that's what you're really wanting, but in the field which one is really better then in the mind???
The GG-B100 is going to how we want it, then they do something completely different, and go back many steps... CASIO still need to think about a continuous backlight, being more alone with custom adjustments, while keeping it simple... bluetooth is the today, and we all know tech will outdate and that means one day the GG-B100 will lose that connection side... so not the end all, I use the GG-B100 mostly without a device, in fact recently I use it without, and just sync the time once a month.
Owning both really isn't needed, and as the Barometer is the best I've used on any G-Shock, then I want to wear that the most, as weather is important to me so need the most info at once without using a phone.
Anyway, both are different and the same in some ways, and owning both I can say they are both excellent :))

It has been a long time in waiting till I got to review the GWG-1000 Mudmaster, and I really wanted to understand why this particular Mudmaster was in such demand and highly recommend. Many watch channels making reviews on the GWG, so mine was taking it further, and it also includes my personal understanding, and to really show some differences with the new GG-B100 that hasn't been looked at closely enough.
Borrowing the watch wouldn't of been enough, I had to really understand and break it down which needed time, and the opportunity came when I bought this from a friend, so worked out perfectly... the GWG-1000 is relatively basic, but so is a compass and map, adding your own skills makes it great. So the piece of cake was the trigger to create the conclusion, as that sums it perfectly.
The question I ask myself, will I keep it?
As I own the GWN-Q1000 Gulfmaster, this to me has the better module that offers more functions that are more useful to me over the GWG, the GWG is therefor based upon the looks, and there's no denying it, it is good looking.
I'm not using it at the moment, and probably won't, but if the GWN-Q1000 wasn't in my collection, then yes I would, and I would use it as intended, as that's the reason why I use G-Shocks. for their toughness and reliability :)

@@WatchUP69MrRangeman in the hide menu of the gpr-b you can test the screen in MIP that's what I meant.for me the faults of this watch the useless altimeter function ... baro (which works as well as the gpr-b but with a small graph obliges to recopy on a sheet to have a better readability of the weather to come) the thermometer is better than on the gpr-b because of the ceramic plate which varies the temperature a lot compared to the steel of the gwg. the worst is the closure of the bracelet which is in the same style as the casio at 30euro the bracelet is really good because I am talking about the closure which is not at the level of the watch. the button is good but it is the same module system with a small iron plate behind the button and over time the button becomes soft and you have to press harder to access the function. The spring is on the button but on the module there is no spring so the small iron plate bends more and more. I'm talking about the mode button that you'll be using a lot more than the others, but it all works the same. beyond that this watch is incredible very precise without mb6. the time reading is really nice solid precise and solar. The compass becomes disorganized quite quickly in town because the watch has no protection against magnetic waves.

I'll take a button anyday versus that unnoying, prone to be broken crown. Not to mention that operating the watch on the rain using the crown can get water inside it. It's also slow, with delays and also might stop working or have errors, like the rotating crown on the GPR B1000. And if you happen to forget to close the crown, like I sometimes did, and catch water, bye bye watch. Casio fixed something that wasn't broken when they added smart crowns to their watches.

Looking more into the crown and all the O-rings, and it's all protected, but I'm still curious how CASIO done tests with it, as a few weeks ago I got flour mix on my G-9300 when mixing dough, and about a week later it was like cement, so imagine that just inside the crown if left unscrewed, not pulled out, but that would be a problem??? smart crown, and thought the new GWG-2000 would have this?????!!!!
There's many reasons why I wear the GG-B100 so much, feel CASIO did a great job and was a glimpse to the future, but it was more like a tease, so for me best G-Shock that's also on pricing goes to the GG-B100 or GW-9400!

That was a very good video again. You explained the advantages of both watches perfectly. In my opinion the GWG-1000 is still the boss of the Mudmasters. But that's mainly because I think this watch just looks incredibly good. The watch can't really do more than a GW-9400 but the combination of analog and digital is much cooler. The GG-B100 is a good alternative and offers a lot of performance at a reasonable price. I would be interested to know how the battery has behaved since you got the watch. You mentioned in another video that you have no problem with the lack of solar energy. Do you still have the same opinion?

Hey buddy, lovely to hear from you, and pleased you liked my first ever review on the GWG-1000... I agree, it is the Master of Mudmasters, not for the materials side, but how it functions, and as mentioned, a really perfect slice of sweetness :))
I seem to have a few conversations with regards to the battery only GG-B100, and keep saying my opinion on this, and I will plan a video soon, so I can direct anyone who opens this topic again, as to me the GG-B100 is a brilliant watch, and for the sake of ten minutes to change the battery when needed, this is less time to fuel your car each week :))
The positive with battery only, means the power reserve for continuous ABC functions, will last longer than a solar battery, so those who want an ABC watch to be used heavily for a few weeks, then the GG-B100 will match this, solar will hit LOW and then need charging, and if you're in cloud cover for a few days after it hits LOW, then you have just a time only watch... well that's summing it up quickly, but I'm still super happy with it, plus it has kind of replaced my GW-9400 would you believe.
The GW-9400 is still the most intuitive G-Shock I've used, and this is a massive reason why it's such an iconic G-Shock :)

@@WatchUP69MrRangeman That's true. The GW-9400 is still on the top of many bestseller lists. That's impressive for a watch that is almost 10 years old. And you only pay 70% of the regular price today, so that is still the best watch for the money. I think it's good that you want to talk about the battery again in a video. The CR2025 is one millimeter thicker than the CR2016, has a lot more capacity. That makes sense, of course. I just don't have the experience with such a model. I know that you don't just use your watches for a moment and then you put them away. You watch the watches for a longer time, so I find your opinion on it interesting. @@WatchUP69MrRangeman The opinions on both watches are really understandable. Also interesting how you showed the lack of button protection at the GG-B100. The GR-B200 has that button protection. Shouldn't it be the other way around?? But what hurts most is GHFs video when he broke the carbon bezel. I think Casio didn't like this video and is working on avoiding such weak points. I don't want to talk bad about carbon at all. Casio must try to replace resin with better materials. We all know what happens to resin after 20-25 years. It breaks and falls apart into many small fragments. I've seen this myself on my DW-6600. I honestly feel sorry for the collectors who spent thousands on limited editions. It must be sad that you can no longer touch some of the watches for fear that the resin parts could break. I'm really curious to see what Casio will develop there and whether carbon resin will completely replace it at some point. It would be interesting to see a full carbon GWG-1000. Of course, the price would go up a lot, but the watch would still be very attractive after many years. I think we talked about this before at your Luminox review.

@@MartinLuetzelberger My LUMINOX is a prime example, really going to last, and worse case, buy a new movement for $45 :))
The issue gshockhighfashion was, is that he took the bezel off, this isn't made to take weigh or to be bent, it's fixed on a carbon composite case which adds longer life against resin bezels, but you still need the bumping to give it less sudden impact shocks. It will get scratched and will have wear, but this is on the outside, much like in a car, unless you roll it 8 times, but the outside gets dents but inside stays in form, with an odd tatty seat if you have an old car like mine LML :-P
All my vintage G-Shocks from 83-87 have all new bezels, and the originals are long turned into dust, so would be interesting to know how long todays resins cope... maybe they used whale fats???
The GG-B100 is practical for everyday, and yes, the buttons are sticking out like elephant ears, but with a quick connect to Bluetooth, things are in order again... I would use the GG-B100 differently, the G-9300 Mudman is the one I use for the tight places, this would be a great case on the GW-9400 :))
I see carbon being used, then dropped and then comes back again, seems CASIO is spreading the fibres and maybe it's all part of testing??? Not sure they'll use that on the Frogman's, maybe metal has a different strength in deep waters??

Now the GWG-2000????? so it's about the looks is it now CASIO, well it'll have that market, but those of us that wan't a tough hard wearing tool, are going to stay with the GWG-1000, and this is fine... they've just released a fancier version, one for day, one to impress Dolly your bird at night :)))
My moral is... make it work for you, and don't make it upset you, as getting the fine balance to meet everyones demands isn't possible, we the user need to adapt to how we use it, and for me, the GWG-2000 make look lovely, but it won't impress the birds in the forest LML :-P
Simple movement, isn't drawback, and remember too much cake slows you down :))

I haven't watch the video yet, but the B100 is a total dud compared to the 1000. No Solar. No MB6. 2 year battery ... I'm truly wondering what Casio is doing lately. How can they make these duds (new gravity master too) when they once made the amazing Rangeman (GW-9400) ??

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hope you liked the video :))
The GG-B100 is really a different watch, and with a chat to StormRider we both agree that maybe Mudmaster has been used too many times, and there is really only one Mudmaster, the GWG-1000!
The GG-B100 has a strength that I will cover in more details with regards to the battery and MB6, then you'll understand more... it's not about replacing any G-Shock, this is something that I feel why it's so... I could be wrong, but using my own judgment and how things work, this would be logic.
I feel the GW-9400 set a high bar, but if another was to replace it, well, not replace, but to update it, I feel the need for a better sub-dial without the heavy printed lines, and adding tide... that's all it really needs to be honest, it's already great :)
Hope when my video comes out, it will really show you how I think... if it's not for you, then this is perfectly fine to have an opinion on it, and I'm not wanting to change your mind, just to show the details as you know.
      Have you got the GWG-1000?
      Cheers :)

@@WatchUP69MrRangeman To me, the new Mudmaster and the new Gravitymaster are nothing special. Though they look great, they have nothing on some older models of G Shock (imo).
What totally baffles me is that they omitted the MB6 in favor of Bluetooth. And maybe not even in favor. The full metal squares (Bxxx series) had both ! And those are awesome.
They said there wasn't any place for solar on the dial ... fair enough ... But a 2 year battery cycle is horrible (but I'm so used to solar and automatics, maybe its normal ?). Still, I have some Hamiltons with a pretty intricate Quartz movement and they last longer than 5 years on a battery.
Granted, If you're not a watch collectorannd are looking for one cool watch for daily wear, it's probably an ok watch. But as a collector with many G Shocks, this is (these are) a dud in my eyes.
I have had the GWG-1000 twice and sold it twice haha. The thing I cant get used to is the stiff bands. Still, I want one again haha. I do still have the PRW-6000YT and omg do I love that one. Think it basically has the same module as the GWG-1000.
I've also had the GPW-2000, which is also amazing. I still have, and will never sell, the GWF-1000D Frogman.
I have 3 squares. The B5000 in black. The B5600. (We briefly interacted in Instagram about them, because you were interested in my display mod. Negative to positive). And the classic 5610.
I also have the Rangeman Gw-9400, which to me is probably still the ultimate G. And I have the MTG-S1000D.
      Aaaaaand ... most likely in a few weeks I will have the MTG-B2000D :) :) :)
And yeah, loved the video btw. Your vids are the top when it comes to G Shock content. And can't wait for your next vid :)

@@presc13nt When it's G-Shocks then chat as much as you want... there's no flaffing with me, I'm a G-Shock guy over any other watch, it just serves that purpose more to me :))
OK, think I need to tell you a few things about why the GG-B100 was made :)
The battery side in my opinion is more about overall usage over a longer time... lets say you go for an adventure for two weeks and absolutely hammered the ABC side, the GG-B100 will cover this daily over that time, whereas with solar and how much battery the have in reserve, means it will go to LOW, then you have to wait for the solar to work to top the battery up, and if the watch is LOW, then no ABC till then, and for some they need to know the watch is solid for abuse over that time. It's not about replacing a G-Shock, this is something I feel has been requested upon???
The other side with regards to Bluetooth, is the with the lands that don't have atomic signals, and then a MB6 watch isn't of much interest, so the Bluetooth uses a lower amount of battery, thus why it was chosen for a battery only watch.... also when shifting from time zone to time zone your connected device will update the watch with the current time. It's meant to be partnered, but really the quartz is good for ±15secs a month.
I hope that opens up the side to why, this is my way of seeing it, it's not a negative, it's just made for another reason.
If you don't use it everyday, then maybe it might push 3yrs plus, maybe 5yrs????
The battery is easy to replace too, and having a few spares means you have an ABC watch that can be used every day heavily for the next few months at least.
I've never seen a MT-G... please share when that lands with you, would love to post that on the community page :))

I am wondering what is your take on new GWG 2000

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hey buddy, I did post on the community page on the channel with my thoughts to the new GWG-2000 release... my main highlight is that it uses the same module, which was to me a lazy revision... with regards to build I can't say with honesty as I've not held it, but it seems it has been refreshed to be more premium as the bezel is now metal with carbon bumpers... dimensions are different, being thickness reduced, so has a slimmer feel... but in general the GWG-1000 has that tough outdoor look, while the GWG-2000 has that lovely and cosy office look LML :-P
I'm sure it's a great watch, but without attention to the module, this is more for those new to G-Shock or avid collectors... I have no issues with carbon, but the finish on this forged carbon looks like recycling material... this is just my opinion, and to me using the module from the GWN-Q1000 would've been a better improvement.
Compared to the GWG-1000, the GWG-2000 looks like they wanted to improve the overall materials used, and a metal bezel is for sure much durable than resin, but it's also less shock absorbing... the GPR-B1000 uses a metal bezel, but this is used as an antenna, and as the design of the GPR was greatly received, then I guess they've tried to repeat that over again... very similar in looks next to the GPR-B1000 too I've noticed.
I've not owned my GWG-1000 for long, I got hammered to when I would review one, and of course that day did arrive, and I made several videos... The GWG-1000 is simple, but has the tools needed... it's tough and has a replaceable bezel which don't cost much, and as I use my G-Shocks, this is more for my needs, the new GWG-1000 has lost that tough outdoor look, and adding a Christmas tree as the mode indicator is the side that really makes me cringe to why???
I can see it selling well, but for us that use these watches as intended, then we will just pass... selling my GWG-1000 for the GWG-2000 is a huge NO, if it offered more towards the module, then yeah, that'll push me... but in my all honesty, I still feel the GWN-Q1000 is a better watch for functions, but at the moment, I'm wearing my GG-B100 Mudmaster the most, simply because it has it all, but it's not a Master of G, so feels plastic compared, so thought the new GWG-2000 would be giving something like the GG-B100, but all they did, was dress it up in a tux :-P
