Unless you’re really wealthy, don’t buy watches as an investment. Just buy the ones you like wearing. About 3 watches is all you need. Life is short, enjoy it.
Well I have bought watches for over 30 years. The value of these has certainly gone up so if you can hold on to the watches for at least ten years a profit is likely. Of course stay away from new watches, buy known brands or at least with known movements, and the rule “the more you know the better” is always an important one. No need to be rich, just try to be smart.
Yes casio, orient, seiko & citizen are super reliable. I once owned an Omega planet ocean & after 6 months, it suddenly stopped working. Sent it in for service but merely after 3 months, the same problem came back. After the 2nd service, i sold the watch!
I was out in the field doing my regular routine with a heavy monsoon rain and on my left wrist is a Casio F201 WA, it is such a great watch that it withstood heavy downpour and still keeping time. For less than 20$ it will last you years.
Is Casio really as bomb proof as they say ? I had ( bought new) calculator watch and it died just outside it's warranty . Sample size one , it may be unfair to judge a watch based on one experience?
I’ve been wearing a 25 yr. old pre-owned Rolex GMT Master 16700 day and night for over 12 yrs now: it still works perfectly, OK it will lose a few seconds in a month or so, but it is so dependable. I still get a thrill every day wearing this watch, I’ll give it a polish and feel happy.
That's when Rolex was more about making great tool watches that were expensive because of the fact they were well made. I have a 16710 and a 1680 and it really excites me to think someone could have really used that watch for diving. Today's it's sadly most about flex and hype
I bought one of those inexpensive (I won't say cheap) Casio watches back in the late '80's. I think I paid about $12.00 for it. 'Twas an amazing piece of durable and useful engineering. I put it through some pretty tough times (long distance running in all sorts of weather, working in a scrap metal yard doing physical labour, auto repair. chopping firewood by the cord, cocktail parties (lol) ....) It never quit though it went thru a few batteries. An awesome watch!
I have a Casio collection. Oceanus S500E, Lineage M100TSE, Edifice Bluetooth 1200DC, G-Shock 5600, the MTP E180L (the brown one), and the rest are vintage models like the 168, 169, the AE1200WH and things like that. And the Pepsi one :)) I still have my Apple Watch 7, but that one haven't seen a charger in 4 months. Just buy something useful, not fancy. Your daily driver should be something you enjoy wearing. I'm so proud of my small collection :)
Funny about the Apple Watch not seeing any wrist time 😂. Those are disposable tech gadgets, not heirlooms like watches. You've got an amazing Casio collection there 👍
I have the white face Sinn 104. Nobody seems to have heard of them outside of watch collectors but everyone comments on it when I wear it, especially on the Sinn finelink bracelet. I don’t think you can find anything better in that price range.
Absolutely agree with everything you said. You could have also mentioned MVMT and Daniel Wellington. These brands have actually been hugely successful with clever marketing using social media to sell crap watches.
You are spot on. I share the experience of collecting for more than 20 years (I'm probably similar in age), and one can make big and small mistakes. For the new enthusiasts your knowledge is invaluable; and for the ones (like me) that have traveled the same road, at least we know we are not alone in this very fun journey. Thanks for sharing and best regards
Thank you so much for your support 👍👍. I'm glad to know that there are other veteran Collectors out there. The funny thing is that there is still sooo much to learn 😁
As I type this, I am wearing a Seiko 5 from from 1967 that I bought from a thrift store for $20. My watch repair man says that it has never been cracked open and is all original. I also have a Seiko Turtle, also all original, but I don't wear it as much because of the weight, but it looks great when I wear it. I've see Seiko Frankenwatches, but we don't have much of a problem with them here in the U.S. because, up until recently, they were considered by watch collectors to be worthless. When they broke, people would toss them or put them in a drawer and forget about them. I have found quartz and automatic Seikos to be extremely reliable. All the quartz ones usually need is a battery, even when they are more 40 years old. The older Seiko quartz watches can have serious movements. I have a Seiko chronograph with a 5 jewel movement. It is a very impressive watch (to me at least!). I also have a fake Hong Kong Seiko that I bought for laughs, but it had a nice vintage Speidel band that alone was worth what I paid for it.
Wondeful story, thank you so much for sharing it! This is a wonderful testament of how good Seiko watches can be over the decades! I'm really jealous about that Turtle of yours 😂. Keep on enjoying them and sharing your great stories 👍
Geonermo Thanks for your feedback with a different opinion!! I am a senior & have owned numerous prestigious ⌚️ based upon my perception: "If one really needs an expensive watch to boost up their own self- esteem" it is more Apache rather than Geonermo !! Apache is more aggressive than Geonermo 😊
Thank you for the video. My father just passed down his vintage Rolex Submariner to me and I love it. What’s crazy is that he purchased it new $600 when he was stationed at Lahr, Germany circa 1970 in the military, and now I see a brand new one is $10,800 CDN here! This is absolutely ridiculous.
Thank you for sharing that beautiful story. That's an absolutely amazing heirloom you've got there, keep it close and pass it down to your children in turn 👍
I have 11 watches in my collection. Tag, Longines, Ebel, Maurice Lacroix, Piaget and recently Cartier. I have no intention of selling any of these and put much thought into every purchase. I bought them for myself and not to impress others but to satisfy my urge .
best way to manage it all ! :) i bought only for my pleasure ... and use ( dressed, sport, water.. ) i think i have for any occasion even fiting clothes ^^^( stainless steel, gold ... metal wrist leather wrist ...) i am quite "lucky" to have special, original tastes : i never search for any Rolex ( but Cellini^^^) ^^^^ there is no , still today, any counterfeix of an Omega flightmaster . there WAS no copy or tricky pieces on any SHOM . the rule when buying ( everything^^^) is to know " the product" :) old Rolex or Jaeger had very standard boxes for many years... decades ! and Valjoux 72 ??!!! come on! :) waltham or others had it the same , most of the time with the same box , for 200/400 euros 10 years ago ?? i have to admit i bought some just because , for sure, you know there is something " intresting ( valuable ) in it ! maybe i was too shy on Blancpain 50 fathoms but there were no way to control anything on that brand ! 😢 missed it :)) i found a Gruen diver of the late 50 ( really elegant old diver watch) since and i wear it more than often ! i am happy with it :) all are in good shape, just some control every ... 2 years max. today's watches are ... more expensives, thiker, too large ... and it is limiting the choice in a very drastic way !!! take your time and buy old watches :)
Which Cartier? I think I'm eventually going to go to just two luxury pieces. 300m Seamaster ceramic and Tank. A Perfect to watch collection for me... ( I do have a drawer stuffed with a few different Casio G-Shock and Casio squares and my first automatic, which is actually really fantastic with a bracelet upgrade, the Orient Ray II... more accurate by about a second per day than the Omega and 3,500 cheaper😂
I buy a Seiko Five about every three years...and give the old one away to a friend...was considering an Omega Coaxial...but I don't know anyone I like that much.
As a low income, native Khmer people in Mekong delta Vn, I can only afford for normal brand like Orient, and I swear I love it so much, the value is HIGH and RELIABLE!! Never had a single issue with my 150USD watch from Orient during 3,5 years of usage.
Great video and great advice. I've been buying Seiko watches mainly divers watches for decades. for me, the quality of Seiko ate hard to beat! I always wait for the sales or bargains on eBay. Obviously I only buy if genuine sellers. I've never been a fan of Rolex, I prefer Omega or Breitling. But it's all about what you like! Thanks again for a great video!
Also like to add watches in the 2-3k range that uses the usual Eta 2824 and Sellita 200. Some brands take pride in their product for 2k, but then there's some you need to be aware of that just doesn't care and are heavily overpriced. You just buy the brand name and heritage. You see some of them just having the basic specs and no effort in the case finish whatsoever. Nothing wrong with basic, but it's not worth the cost. In this price range, my favourite brands in terms of best bang for your buck are Sinn, Damasko and Ball. Look past the design alone and read up on what happens inside their watches. Some brands can charge 500 to 1k more just to have some magnetic resistance or COSC certification. Those are the ones you need to be aware of.
Buy the watch what you personally think is worth the price. Of course there is a premium to pay, if you buy a Longines or Omega. But if you desire that particular watch, don’t look for the dollar. I bought every watch I owned for that special time of my life and I don’t regret it at all.
You are so right. I use a 1960's Bernex Barracuda automatic watch that belonged to my father. It has an ETA movement. Nothing fantastic but it is very dependable, 60 years on. My other watch is a Sturmanskie that I didn't pay a lot for but it keeps great time and is lightweight. Buy a watch to tell the time, not for anything else.
Very right about "in fashion watches" I used to be obsessed with rolex, but after a few years trying to save for an Explorer, I just bought an Omega Aqua Terra 2503.50.00.. This watch is about 70% cheaper and it is absolutely gorgeous. Do some research people, and get something that YOU like, and not what the HYPE pushes you to like You'll feel proud of owning something that little bit different, and will likely save a lot of money too (Explorer 36mm is £6150 if you can find one . My omega...£2400..I think this is a good example)
@@isluderea8322 1. Rolex clearly is Not a fashion watch! I'm not suggesting they are like "Boss" or "MVMT" but "in fashion", I.e. "the cool thing to have, the hyped up thing that everyone must have" 2. Dude come on...I got what IN MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION is the better watch FOR ME... it took 4 years to decide, to try on many rolex watches, including the Explorer...I love Omega watches much more than Rolex and I've owned two in the past... but I also do like many Rolex watches too... We are all on our own journey, and this was the right choice for me What watches do you have / hope to have?
@@Valera_Scotlandok. I understand. i have a dozen watches. From cheaper ones like Tissot Lelocle, Hamilton xwind or Seiko skx007 to expensiver like Tudor BB58 or Rolex Explorer i and Sub. My next watch? Let's say a nice Moonwatch for example
I the early 70's I bought a SEIKO QUARTZ SQ100 and it has been my daily wear since then, it has never missed a beat. Has had about 3 stem seals in that time and is pressure tested regularly. I also have an IWC Automatic which looks fantastic, but I am too afraid to wear it to often. Others have come & gone.
Great video, my man. Spot on. The one proviso I would add is that vintage collecting is very doable… by those who know what they are looking for. I love “transitional” pieces and have a few in my collection… but I have had occasion to school dealers on them. The way to buy them is always as you did - with an in-person visit and cracking the back. The follow up to that is that one of my other favorite pieces is a $20 Chinese Sub homage by Tevise. Fun beater watch that sparks as many conversations as my actual Sub. Keep up the good work and keep spitting facts. I like it.
Thank you so much. This video is more for people who are starting collecting, that's why I don't recommend vintage at that point. Or to be more precise, it's not that I don't recommend, it's that I recommend to be very careful 😁
When i was in my early 20s i saw the Diesel Big Chief with the chameleon glass and i fell in love. Many years later i decided to buy it. It looked better in real life than in pictures. It also felt good to wear it. Big and heavy. LOVED IT. One day after i bought it i had to water my lemon and lime trees and i sprayed the watch with *a little bit* of water (keep in mind, that this watch is 10ATM) ... and the watch got water trapped inside. It was returned to diesel and i got my money back. For the price of this watch, i can get something way better from Citizen, Seiko, Orient, Casio, Bulova... I liked it because of the glass... i really did... not because of the brand. I don't wear diesel clothes... but it turned out to be garbage.
I believe that at least some of the Calvin Klein watches have Swiss movements and are high quality - their watches were part of the Swatch Group for 22 years and are now produced by the Movado Group. Maybe the quality slipped at that point - I don't really know. My only point is that this brand seems better than most of the 'fashion watches'. (I bought new one some time back on the grey market for around $40 and I have to say it seems like high quality.)
I'm far from being a collector but have a few wristwatches. I look for several things: under $60, reliablity of the brand, simplicity, accuarate movement, and easily complmentary of my choice of dress from occasion to occasion.
my late father collected watches, he had about 10. He knew what he bought, but only 2 were really valuable. Now I collect watches myself. And because I could afford it I have an Alpina and a real nice Hamilton and a Seiko of course, Yet my trusty Casio happens to be one of the favourites. Why: the glass hasn't scratched (no its not sapphire), it syncs the time with bluetooth, it beeps every hour and it charges with solar. And I am not afraid to damage it, so I wear it during the week. and all of that for less than 100 euros;-)
Great video, I've been into watches forever, four decades actually. I gave up on vintage watches long ago which was actually handed to me and I never ever bought preowned anything and after over two hundred watches plus I've made great contacts and dealers who I trust and who contact me once a reference is released so I can see it before purchased. Please stay away from hype from many reviewers who benefit from telling you that the Vacheron222 is worth three times above retail that's bullshit cause I know it's not so turning mine down in March 2023. No watch is worth double retail many are not even worth retail, think about it omega has already two price increases this year alone and Christian from Theo and Harris says that's about right cause T&H sell used watches!. I buy new and always get my discounts even on new releases over 15K. Things really have gotten out of hand over a decade or so ago.
Thank you so much for your feedback! It's very nice to have one from someone like yourself, who has been collecting for ao long and who has dealt with many references. Vintage is a minefield indeed, especially luxury vintage! I didn't know there was hype around the Vacheron222 as I don't deal in top luxury timepieces, but it's good to know hype can exist at any price level and it's only accentuated by social media
I was about to make a video saying the same but this man said it ALL. Listen. Just a small addition: Do not get carried away buying waches for parts for watches you do not need or use. No one cares about your watch or the ammount of watches you own.
I never heard of a Frankenwatch until I came here. Thanks for the advice. I had a knock-off Patek that worked for a month. It was a beautiful watch. I can now afford the original but I would have to do a lot of soul searching in my heart and mind to justify forking over that amount of cash. To be honest, I love all watches from the ones you get out of a vending machine, to the ones that are as much as a house. If it gives you accurate time and has all the bells and whistles you love, than I am probably happy for you wearing it.
In some way all swiss watches are franken-watches. They are made from parts made all over the world. If you think a bit about it: you have to buy chineese watch brands to really avoid that. But even then the cases may have been done in some different country.
The current gen superclones are amazing reliable. The replica patek 5712 I have has a 1:1 replica of the movement itself. It can be replaced with a genuine patek 240 movement. Replicas are on a whole nother level these days
Heritage is in your mind and is owned, bought and sold by companies for profit. Watches are industrial products worth the sum of the parts inside. There are watchmakers alive today passionate about the work that give good value. For the Seiko price you can get a watch with a real bracelet and aligned parts.
So glad you tell that to people and so true. Luckily my mistakes are not as bad because I did not buy too much nor did I spend too much. Out of all 6 watches I owned...there is only 1 that I love (I think I had it so far 6 years) and that is my silver Citizen Eco-Drive watch because I never have to replace the batteries and the watch is well made and it fits my small wrist. I love it Citizen Eco-Drive watch so much...I just purchased one in gold. Even if I'm rich, I would not buy extravagant material things. I buy it for myself to enjoy and it's not to be flexing to other people. I would spend as if I was poor because I don't know if and when my money will last all my living. years. One of my watches was stolen... and too many people loved my watch. I would be careful with the people who give compliments.
Thank you for sharing you experience! I totally agree, and you were smart! Eco Drive or solar in general are the most cost efficient watches to maintain. And Citizen just kills it 👍
I'd like to get a Citizen Eco Atomic one of these days. I like the atomic watches because they stay right on time and I don't have to set them by WWV myself to keep them accurate. My old Junghans Mega Aluminum atomic watch keeps good time and it has never been repaired. Been through multiple batteries and on it's third watch band but it keeps on going and I love it!
I bought a Citizen Promaster BNO 150 its been on my wrist 7days a week for 10 months. I wore it on the rubber strap that it came on for 1 month then added an oyster style bracelet.....love it even more now. Will i be wearing this watch in the next 5 years, you bet i will !!
Yea, that Speedmaster thing was an auction at Phillips in Geneve. Bud to be fair, the auction house was fooled by Omega itself. The director of Omega museum "proofed" it as a unpayable treasure which they can't ignore. Also some other employees of the management level were involved in this scam. Even it's a Frankenwatch, but the parts were investigated to be from Omega HQ itself. So tzey let it look like a unique timepiece and brought the price with fake bids up to 3 Milion. Usually never more than 500K for real unique pieces. But this was worthless. So at the end of the auction Omega itself bought it. Now Omega fired all these employees who were involved in this scam and investigations are ongoing. But anyway....I never trust auction houses. I visit them often for arts and historical pieces. They have often no idea whst hhey offer. There are just too many different kind of arts and historical things. It's impossible to know everything. Even if they know they don't care. And their fees are incredible. Usually they ask for a fee of 20% from the buyer and some even also from the seller. So I don't know the pricing of Phillips. But at least they do get a fee of 600,000 for the Omega. If they get from both, Seller and Buyer it could be even 1,2Mio.
Thank you for your feedback. You would assume that such prestigious companies would do their due diligence before offering such an expensive timepiece. Everyone's reputation is on the line. Omega and Phillips messed up big time!
Timex, citizen, Seiko and even swatch with their sistem51 movement are all good entry points…one of the brands I am conflicted about is Fossil.. not sure if they fall in the designer category or entry point?? What do you think?
Great video. I've have refined what watches I buy. I tend to buy watches that are expensive to me rather buying a fashion watch. I have nothing against fashion watches but I'd rather save up for a really nice Tissot, Hamilton, Seiko, Longines and others. I'm satisfied with my purchase because I have done my research and bought what I loved and not worrying about who I will impress. Great video. Cheers!
I currently own mint DJ41, Pelagos FXD, Emperor Tuna SBDX014 and two G - Shocks. My final target is Submariner (date or no date, still uncertain) because it was the watch that got me into watches when I was a kid and my dad showed me the 007 movies. I like the overtly masculine design, the simplicity and symmetry of it and the build quality of Rolex. I don't care who are the current bunch of "famous people" that endorse or flex any Rolex. I just have passion for the Sub and all of my watches I own and I don't have interest in any other "higher tier of luxury" watches... Maybe JLC Reverso.
I have some $80-100 Skagen watches that I bought over 7 years ago. Wear them every day. No scratches anywhere. Watches (Swiss made) that had when I was young, which was over half a century ago, got scratched, didn't keep time, etc. I wouldn't, however, put out $500 on a fashion watch when I could buy a Tissot or Seiko for the same price. Nope.
What about Bremont watches? The designs look great and they appear to be well built, but as a relatively new luxury brand, are they worth the investment?
I share your experience and thoughts on watches; however, I place the Seiko Grand Seiko on par with many Rolex models. I think the Grand Seiko is the best all-round watch on the market at present. The new models retail at around £6000; with movements as good as those used by Rolex and Omega. I think Japanese watches have caught up with Swiss watches, even surpassing many Swiss brands. On the other hand, I also think one should wear a watch that makes one smile every time one wears it. I’ve had Tudor, Omega, Longines and many, many designer watches, but few made me smile like a Seiko automatic. A fake will always be a fake. Buy a style, not a brand.
Thank you very much. It's been a long time since japanese watches have surpassed Swiss watches, since 1969 to be precise 😁. Grand Seiko are amazing and innovate, unlike the Swiss. I like and appreciate both though for very different reasons
I like this video, so far I have two automatic watch SRPE63k and king Samurai save the ocean dark manta and two digital watch F91W and a gshock DW5900..Probably the only watch I will own.
My personal opinion. Ball vintage railroad wrist watches are very rugged accurate and my favorite choice they are every bit as good as any high end watch ever made without all the hype and huge price tag
Any relations to Horacio and his eponymous car brand? Does it have German movement? I hate to say, the name sounds suspect. Either the business owner is Mr. Pagani or he is trying to cash in on the car brand.
@godwindracing6056 No. Pagani Design watches are in now way associated with Horatio Pagani. The quality of their watched is amazing. Another amazing brand is Tsar Bomba. Their RM homages are stunning. I have a few if those. And and I have 12 Onola RM homages.
I prefer a standard wind up ball watch verses an auto wind a lot less trouble and you wind it at the same time each day. I've been collecting vintage watches for more than 50 years. So in my time I've seen good and bad in all brands
I agree with you although I would except the real Gucci watches of 30 years ago in that they used really superior quartz movements compared to other fashion watches like Guess at the time.
After the so called luxury brands got bought out by the oligarchs they all started just to push cheap outsourced crap. This appies not only to watches.
Tks for the video. Inflationary prices post covid prevented me from buying luxury watches anymore, the price hike for the same watch just don't make sense nor cents anymore.
Tag Heuer is a historic watch company which dates back to the 19th century. TAG bought the very beloved Heuer back in the 70s and ever since the brand has gotten a lot of heat for "degrading" their offerings at first (cheaply made quartz watches in the 80s and 90s) and for doing some very brash advertising with Hollywood stars in the 2000s and 2010. There was even an episode where they bought the rights from a Seiko chronograph, Caliber 5, and claimed it as their own in-house caliber. But things seem to be starting to turn around and quality seems to be back at the company's core, and the reputation is climbing back
I love micro brands, you get great design with movements that can be easily serviced which to me is supremely important. Nodus, Farer, Wolbrook, Baltic, to name just a few with terrific watches. I own many.!!👍😊
I only own 3 watches now I sold all the rest I had about 50 they all cost over £250 pounds not I only have 3 watches that I would never sell I have a rotary. Sherlock homes watch. And invicta pro diver and a orient bambino watch that’s all I need Your video is good thanks 🙏
I have a Junghans Mega Aluminum atomic watch I've had for almost 20 years. It has been serving me well through multiple battery changes and 3 watch bands. I like the atomic watches and would love to one day own a Citizen Eco Atomic since it would both set itself and never need batteries. I just wonder if it would last as long as my Junghans has.
Excellent video my friend. I've been very very lucky. I did almost get caught with a frankenwatch. A private seller here in Turkey was selling a seemingly perfect condition Seiko Pogue. It looked too good to be true, and it was.. Luckily I got to see it personally having done my research and make some check points. I quickly discovered that the dial was a reproduction, not the original, the hands too were added later and slightly different in shape and length, the colours were off and in the movement I found some parts that were clearly not original. I said it to the seller as I think he genuinely thought it was original and he was quite upset when I pointed out the problems. But in the end he accepted that he had been fooled himself. I am still looking for a perfect Pogue. I have discovered during my search that unfortunately almost every Pogue you find online isn't original.
I've been a Citizen fan for many years and have a nice collection of Eco Drive Promasters. For appearance, function and longevity, you just can't beat them.
Sir, I have one watch with me. It’s an automatic vintage watch in gold color. This was my grandmother .It’s an Indian brand 1967 HMT vintage gold color. it’s still functioning perfectly.. There is no service centre here. My question is, if you are a watch expert, I want to see its worth also want to see if it’s pure gold. Will really appreciate if you reply Back. I’ve been keeping this with me for 4 years with me after my grandmother passed away.
Thanks for the video. Each point makes perfect sense, and I have formed the same opinions over the years. I seem to have 'accidentally' formed a small collection of watches. I have a couple of low price watches from micro-brands that use very good movements (mainly seiko) are well built, and keep excellent time. But I also bought them because I genuinely like them, not because they are trendy/popular. Thanks again.
I’ve also read that manufactures like Movado’s build quality of their current offerings have gone significantly down trying to keep a high profit margin by producing lesser quality movements compared to their earlier builds pre 1990’s.
'Fakes are bad quality' shows one of the best 1:1 clones from Clean factory. This guy obviously does't know what he's talking about. I have multiple watches worth thousands of dollars and also a few reps from Clean factory and love all of them. And yes, they are pretty damn accurate and great quality.
Regarding the vintage watch one, there are sites and forums which could help determine which parts go with which watch, especially omega, but i do agree with the frankenwatch fear. Personally for me, as long as the case model matches with the movement model and the dial, that should be okay since for me, those are what really give the watch its identity. And if you do end up with a frankenwatch, take the loss and if you try to sell it, just be honest about it and if no one buys it, keep it. It might not be a valuable watch but it would still be a nice watch
Yes, when you buy a $500 vintage Semaster I agree, but when you buy a $20k 1675 or 1680 Rolex every small detail is important, and it's here that things can go terribly wrong
Avoid vintage like a plague. Those are mechanical devices and therefore they have a limited lifetime. There is not really any possibility to "service" a watch indefinitely. After 1-2 full services it is in reality just trash. It is far more sensible to buy something new made in the style you desire. My own SNKG is already on it's 3-rd werk. The original was tossed out for the hacking and winding. The replacements needed service after about 5 years and of course it was far more sensible to just put in a new werk.
@@rosomak8244 I've owned 4 entry level / lower mid tier for its time from the 50' s - 70's without issues , only had to service one for grand sum of around us $ 80 . Is this a anomaly ?
Won’t buy fakes, hate them. But I buy homages all the time. I love boutique brands too. Some neat designs have come from some of the tiny boutique brands. My only worry is when I may need parts for the cases.
Great advice all around. Where "fashion brands" are concerned, I wonder if the time has come where we can separate Vincero from brands like MVMT, DW, etc. I've been looking at some of Vincero's higher priced automatic offerings and, frankly, the specs look good. Miyota 9000-series movement, sapphire crystal, 100M+ WR, etc. Not sure how one can go wrong.
'Steeldive' make all the Homage top end diving watches using automatic Seiko moments. For between AU$200 and AU$300 I bought the Rolex Hulk Submariner (Its the closest Ill ever get to owning a Submariner) 4 yrs ago as a work watch and its still going strong. Very impressed. They have Blanc pane 50 Fathoms or a Seiko Tuna or Turtle or a Speedmaster, Oris Aqua, Rolex... and they advertise them for what they are. They are not cheap fakes, but pretty decent replicas. The steel bracelets arent that comfortable, but I swapped mine out for a rubber one.
Hi love your informative videos. As a none qualified collector 😊 I have my explorer II, Tudor, Seiko. Have come across to Wise. They packing some interesting specs for around $600
I'm slowly replacing my fossil watches with other brands. There are 3 fossil watches that I own that are of great quality, and will never give them up. But there are a few others which aren't great quality which I am replacing them with good brands. I'm a collector, and I just want to make it great.
Homage watches aren't the best watches if you want to value your money. I have some Bliger, Pagani Design etc. that i want to sell but nobody is interested in them...even at 1/2 the price
I used to buy all these cheap watches when I was younger. They ranged from 75$-200. But I have to admit that you get what you pay for. I bought a nice used Revue Thomman automatic watch and it is definitely worth it
Fashion watches are made by Fossil, and use cheap movements with cheap parts that scream 'teenager trying to look cool'. If you want a cheaper watch get a Seiko 5 - all in house, automatic and great bang for your buck!
As I can see all recommended watches are listed in Amazon and as you mentioned "NOTE: As an Amazon partner I earn from qualifying purchases" ... a question raised - If a watch is not listed in Amazon, does it mean you won't recommend it?
People should buy what they like, but shouldn't spend more than they can afford.. Young people like wearing fashion brands, and whilst you and I know they are overpriced, they get pleasure from wearing them. Try telling the same person they should be wearing a Casio or a Timex. I agree about vintage watches, they are a bundle of trouble. Best to spend the money on a good homage, which normally have a better spec.
I have two, one is an Apple Watch 10, this is daily wear, for work & for gym. Then I have special Grand Seiko I love, that just goes out when I dress up and go somewhere nice. I won't wear it if possibly getting drunk on alcohol either, be devestated if I damaged it.
I have an Omega Speedmaster (pre-lunar) that I bought new in 1967 from an Omega dealer for $300. Only serviced by Omega. I love it. The market now says value is $8,000+/-.
@@J.Harry.T Probably not that much. I just got a 1966 Speedmaster serviced and it cost me £330 including some new parts for it. Unless you go to the AD’s servicing is usually not bad unless it’s a very complicated movement. I got at least 50 watches at any given time and rarely service a watch, maybe one or two a year and it cost me average £250.
I was addicted to buy watches, I realized that when you wear it, nobody notice it, keep saving your money and invest to gold and silver instead than wasting to a garbage.
I have had the opposite experience. My watches have led to some great conversations with random people who otherwise I would have never met. I feel people that actually notice tend to be more affluent. So my motto is if you notice my watch you’re probably someone I should talk to.
Because you wear cheap watches.that why nobody wants to look at them.if you want someone who notice of what you are wearing, use most expensive ones like Ronaldo, messy use
I Kind of like Grand Seiko but ever since smart phones came out I stopped wearing wrist watches. I'm going to Hiroshima next year, there's a grand seiko outlet store near there, maybe I can find a deal
Unless you’re really wealthy, don’t buy watches as an investment. Just buy the ones you like wearing. About 3 watches is all you need. Life is short, enjoy it.

Rules for yourself.Let others shine too...
I doubt they will go up since I collect mostly invicta@@truxton1000
Meh, I’m at around 80 and no crap like Hamilton or Longines.
It is the same in the vintage guitar world . Gibson made 1500 Les Paul`s in 1959 & now there are only 3000 left .
😂
Lol! Oh that were a good 'un! :D

That is irrational statement, it means if any psycho like hurting others it’s okay just because he like it.

Fantastic advise for anyone who is thinking about buying a watch or already has a collection.
10 years and 300 watches seems more like an impulse buyer instead of a collector?
Gotta enjoy life sometimes
I just stick with Casio, Seiko, and Citizen. I've never been disappointed with those watches.
Seiko is perfect 🌲✌️😅
Don't forget about Orient
Same,mine Seiko,Casio,citizen,Rado.....since my childhood days
Same. I have a few Timex Ironman but they are so crazy cheap it's not a risk financially.
Totally, Casio has the best value out there on rugged watches 👍
Is Casio really as bomb proof as they say ?
I had ( bought new) calculator watch and it died just outside it's warranty .
Sample size one , it may be unfair to judge a watch based on one experience?
This sounds like something out of a J Peterman catalog

@@julienfroidevaux1143I have had two expensive G- shocks and they failed before they required a battery change. Never again.
I like the Casio watches with day, date where I don’t have to change date. Alarm is a feature I use daily.
I recommend G-Shock watches.
I wear an F-91 a lot. Great things.
Casio is the Honda of watches, they are built to last.
Same for me with a Timex. It was on its 5th battery when it gave up the ghost. The batteries in it lasted 5 years each.
You've got an amazing Casio collection there 👍
bought two vintage Patek during the Dotcom era. glad neither was fake. had both serviced by Patek. To date, rate of return
I went through the cycle of cheap to expensive to moderate. I settled on the Sinn 104 and Glycine GMT and am happy.
I love my Glycine combat sub, I can’t believe how inexpensive they are.
great choises
I love my Glycine GMT!
Thank you my friend. I did mention Daniel Wellington right? Oh, maybe I did it just in the video in French 😁
I bought a MVMT for about $70. I actually like it a lot. Simple, easy to read and looks great.

US$600 from 1970 are equivalent to about US$5600 or CAN$7600 today.
I have 11 watches in my collection. Tag, Longines, Ebel, Maurice Lacroix, Piaget and recently Cartier. I have no intention of selling any of these and put much thought into every purchase. I bought them for myself and not to impress others but to satisfy my urge .

That's what watches are all about 👍👍.
Sturmamskie is the first brand in space!

I like it.

This is why TH-cam is great - to encourage the hobby and help educate people.

Then Casio and Timex (both amazing brands) are your friends 👍
my late father collected watches, he had about 10.

Can you make your video half as long?

Yeah Casio W800 is my favourite too.
Okay, fair video. I want an automatic Daytona lookalike for of course a lot less. Could you give me an option or two that I can buy straightaway? Ta
Nobody not being willing to get fooled was. It was most likely a marketing gig by Omega.

Timex, citizen, Seiko and even swatch with their sistem51 movement are all good entry points…one of the brands I am conflicted about is Fossil.. not sure if they fall in the designer category or entry point?? What do you think?
Fossil definitely designer category imo.
Great video. I've have refined what watches I buy. I tend to buy watches that are expensive to me rather buying a fashion watch. I have nothing against fashion watches but I'd rather save up for a really nice Tissot, Hamilton, Seiko, Longines and others. A Rolex impresses none. None you would care about.
So good knowledge about watches, from pakistan.

Nope.
It's better to buy a very good fake watch than a Diesel that is $15worth and sells for $400.

These tips are so on point. Every new collector should see this vid 👏👏
Thank you 👍👍
Buy what you like. Accessories don’t have to be investments or assets that hold value. Real investments don’t go on your wrists or neck.
I am starting my first serious watch with Seiko automatic ⌚😍
Very nice place to start 👍
I have a "Tag heuer carrera" . Can you tell something about this company
I own many.!!👍😊
Yes, microbrands can be great!
I like the LIV brand
There are some really great micro brands out there who offer a lot of bang for the buck. Don’t be afraid to check them out!
Be consequent. Go one step further and buy unbranded chineese watches.
Wonderful entry level watch collection 👍
most likely the smart watch has done a lot to kill the fashion watch space. many thanks for another great video. merci bien.
Yes, you are right, and de rien 😉
Totally, Citizen rules lately!
Lots of sensible advice here. Thanks.
Will really appreciate if you reply
Back.
I do it about the same way.
I’ve also read that manufactures like Movado’s build quality of their current offerings have gone significantly down trying to keep a high profit margin by producing lesser quality movements compared to their earlier builds pre 1990’s.
That is sad to hear 😔
'Fakes are bad quality' shows one of the best 1:1 clones from Clean factory. This guy obviously does't know what he's talking about. I have multiple watches worth thousands of dollars and also a few reps from Clean factory and love all of them. And yes, they are pretty damn accurate and great quality.
The best fake watches are almost impossible to tell the difference with the real ones.
A quality watch will always eventually become vintage. I have 2 Seiko 7A movement watches that are over 40 years old and still work flawlessly.
Fakes frighten me more than Frankenstein watch .
It's the main reason I will never buy a luxury watch ( I would never buy retail)
That would be a good step in the right direction. If only they would start less insulting promo campaigns that would be great 👍
'Steeldive' make all the Homage top end diving watches using automatic Seiko moments.
Starting to get into watches this is good information
Hi love your informative videos. As a none qualified collector 😊 I have my explorer II, Tudor, Seiko. Have come across to Wise. They packing some interesting specs for around $600
I really like the 35mm Tissot prx though recently I’ve seen tons of them, so is it already an ‘a la mode’ watch?
Not really because it's available and people are not charging 5 times retail for it
I'm slowly replacing my fossil watches with other brands. There are 3 fossil watches that I own that are of great quality, and will never give them up. But there are a few others which aren't great quality which I am replacing them with good brands. I'm a collector, and I just want to make it great.
That's the spirit 👍. My first "real" watch was also a Fossil over 20 years ago!
Homage watches aren't the best watches if you want to value your money. I have some Bliger, Pagani Design etc. that i want to sell but nobody is interested in them...even at 1/2 the price
To be fair you have not lost much money as PD offer alot of watch and spec for the money.
I used to buy all these cheap watches when I was younger. They ranged from 75$-200. But I have to admit that you get what you pay for. I bought a nice used Revue Thomman automatic watch and it is definitely worth it
I mostly agree! But some fashion brand models are decent, as some mechanical Burberry and even a CK with an eta 2824 😂
Yes, I agree, there are some exceptions
Where is a good place to get a decent price on an Omega watch? Always wanted one.
Try Chrono24 and remember to buy the seller and not to forget to haggle!
Fashion watches are made by Fossil, and use cheap movements with cheap parts that scream 'teenager trying to look cool'. If you want a cheaper watch get a Seiko 5 - all in house, automatic and great bang for your buck!
Totally 👍
As I can see all recommended watches are listed in Amazon and as you mentioned "NOTE: As an Amazon partner I earn from qualifying purchases" ... a question raised - If a watch is not listed in Amazon, does it mean you won't recommend it?
As this video is really old most of these links don't work anymore. I'm recommending these watches just because I believe they are great value 👍
@@CarlWiganerUK good call 👍. I wear an activity tracker on my right wrist so I totally can relate to the Apple watch thing 😂
Wear what you like..
Calvin klein Infinity Automatic ETA 2824-2 Swiss Made movement and Saphire Glas top watch for this price
Super clone is the way to go. VSF.
Absolutely
I have an Omega Speedmaster (pre-lunar) that I bought new in 1967 from an Omega dealer for $300. Only serviced by Omega. I love it. The market now says value is $8,000+/-.
How much have you spent on servicing?
So my motto is if you notice my watch you’re probably someone I should talk to.
lol watches should be bought for your own pleasure and enjoyment, not to impress people.
If you want good watch for sub-£100 get a G-Shock!
