    If the Casio just cover the carbon bezel with flexible resin instead of stiff ones like they did on the Carbon strap...

      Actually I start doubting how good is carbon core guard? I'm going to buy gst-b200, but there is nobody making video about drop/impact test for these carbon core g shock.

      About the carbon.Carbon is lightweight makeing it usefull in many aplications where weight is crutual like in aeronautic,nautic,aerospace,car ...and plenty of other industries and aplications like in Formula1.They(developers of F1 carbon body) did a great presentatio on their carbon body construction also saying that during impact the carbon will almost be destroyed in pieces but thats why carbon is great,takeing the force of impact and spreading it all over its fibers.Thats why carbon is mostly made stiff.Yes,this is a watch and probably the carbon bezel will take some impact force and spread it through its fibers so maybe will do the resin substitute also but from my opinion the carbon one looks way cooler😉.

      The carbon fiber bezel is primarily for looks anyway. It's not really protecting much where being brittle when twisted is going to make any difference at all. It is still going to do just fine at protecting the crystal, and that is the main reason it is even there. The use of carbon fiber in this watch makes it much more lightweight and able to withstand more pressure and force, but anything when twisted is going to break unless it is meant to flex. Bezels generally aren't meant to.

      Typical of carbon fiber though. It is rigid, but it will crack. It's mostly epoxy, after all.

    • @wonderbreadmodelsandhistor1566
      @wonderbreadmodelsandhistor1566 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's not a wear item...the only way to expose it to that stress is to disassemble it. Thats like complaining about the flexibility of tooth enamel. Sure it could crack...if you took it off the tooth. But why would you?
      Also Watch Geek - Thank you for your awesome contribution to our hobby over the years. Everyone is thinking it...just figured i should say it.

    In general carbon fiber is very strong in just one designated direction. Think when the bezel is solidly in place it can take quite a blow but when you take it off en start bending it can snap really easy because power is applied in the "wrong" direction.

    Very informative thank you for sharing: Just one thing that I would like to share with you; when I remove watch hands, I put a sheet of clingfilm over the hands and dial face before using any tools, as this prevents or at least reduces the chance of any unwanted soiling or depressions being left behind on the cosmetic finish - it also stops the hands from flying off in the process. Thanks again.

  • @muzza9338
    @muzza9338 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Luv your review brother but you need to change your topic heading by deleting "I broke it"..... This is so misleading and implies that GGB100 is an interior product whereas it's one of the best models ever to be released! It's like the call on the Rangeman 9400 where someone claimed the lugs were breaking due to poor design! Unfortunately many took this on face value! As you started, the bezel was not designed to be twisted and in fact this applies to all bezels!! On the strap replacement issue, Jaysandkays have now designed and produced some new fantastic adaptors that will allow you to fit any 24mm strap to your muddy... Check em out on eBay... I couldn't do without then...

    7:32 Carbon fibers are strong, but they are not strong in every direction (like steel or aluminum). You've applied force on carbon fibers in a way they are not meant to be stressed. This piece sits snugly on the watch and it would probably absorb any blow coming from the top or the side. But bend it just a little bit and it cracks.
    That is why your bezel failed. Same would apply on a carbon bicycle - it can take a lot of abusing, but just step on a tube and it will shatter.

    Why why why would you want to put a sapphire on this watch? For one thing there would be ZERO difference in appearance. Unless you get an AR coated crystal, minieral glass and sapphire look almost the same and you won't be able to tell the difference. But the main reason you don't want sapphire is because this is an incredibly tough watch that is meant to be knocked around. Sapphire is extremely hard, and like all super hard materials, it is very brittle. It will shatter on impact instead of chipping or scratching. It is NOT the material to put on a watch like this. I wouldn't even put it on a dive watch I intended to be snorkeling around coral with. It is the worst material to have on a watch that is at risk of any impact to the crystal.
    Great video though! I absolutely appreciate your style and the quality of your video. Really well done!!

    I have this watch and I love it. I just wish they had offered it with the tough solar feature. Also, this isn't magnetic resistant. If a magnet is held close to the crystal, you can stop the second hand. In the compass mode, where the second hand always points North, a magnet will affect it, too.

    Thank you for all of your efforts and attention to details. All of these little details that Casio puts into these, yet they do not add lume to the index; in my concern, that is the only reason I don't pull the trigger on one of these. CNC cutting lume high quality vinyl/tape (Glow-On has excellent lume tape) using a Cricket seems like a simple at home DIY, but sizing the index markers (or sourcing the size on the internet) is the hard part; is measuring the markers w/a micrometer something you are willing to do during one of your disassemblies? Is the index ring even [easily] removable from the crystal? What are your thoughts on adding such lume?

    Nice vid. Subscribed. Been watchmaker for years (repair only) mostly mechanical, chronographs sometimes, some quartz. Curious how you handled the hands, did you point all hands at 12 during install because non independent, or did it not matter? Some quartz chrongraphs where strange in syncing up to me. I agree with you on the rubber finger cots, losing finger sensation causes me to fumble sometimes. Besides I'm older, my fingertips are dry as bones. I have trouble even at checkout lines from touch screens sometimes dont register. It's a little embarrassing. I work hunched over a box, that helps me to minimize parts loss. I sometimes use movement holders, sometimes not. Some guys, better than me, take whole thing apart using movement holder. To me thats more difficult. I have to hold at different angles and distances of view, so I take chances with dropping over struggling with always holding in movement holder.. You might like plastic twezers. I notice some of the more critical parts like the led display could get easily damaged by sharp metal tweezers, but I dont know, you know your comfortable way, just suggestion. One thing sometimes works for me is on the analog portion of movement you can soak in Zippo lighter fluid. What happens sometimes is factory lubrication dries up or congealed. The Zippo (naptha) liquidates the old oil allowing gears to turn. This is an old mech watch trick. As to the broken bezel with the carbon fiber layer I would have used a fine oil dropper to weep small drops of super glue into the cracks while you had the bezel off. Enjoyed this vid and subscribed. Arjay.

    Hi Thanks for the great video, one thing I really would love to see is the step counter test video, I have the same model as shown in the video for some reason it's very inaccurate when it comes to the Step counter, I normally remove the watch when I go to sleep and leave on my dresser table, when I wake up I check the step counter to be surprised by 150 steps recorded already while the watch was just sitting stationary for the whole night. Is this a defect or just the step counter is just crappy, Casio should have traded the step counter with solar power instead.

    Carbon fiber isn''t and shouldn't be flexible, no offense, but I don't see why you would think it was rubbery if it says on the spec sheet that it's carbon haha... Anyway, this also applies to even carbon fiber mountain bikes, you can send it down drops all day and go through rock beds and all sorts of abuse, but you can also break the frame just by pushing your thumb hard enough on one of the tubes perperdicularly to the direction of strength. CF has directional stiffness and is not resilient to single points of stress.

    • @gshockhighfashion
      @gshockhighfashion  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because Casio made carbon fiber insert watch band G-Shocks as well. Which could obviously be bend while wearing the watch. Looks exactly the same too.

    First of all I highly appreciate your disassembling videos. Big thanks for that!! I would like to swap the hands between two models. I wonder how to align the hands when I put them back to the motor pin. Are there any positioning notches (I can't see any) or do I have to set the hands after re-assembling individually by the watches functions. Thanks in advance for a short hint bro!!

    • @gshockhighfashion
      @gshockhighfashion  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are no notch or indication at all. I just manually align it with the 12 index. You'll beed good eye sight though.
      I'd seen some G-Shock promotional video where they showcase how a G-Shock was assembled, the staff just align the hands manually as well, except under a magnifying lens.
