  • The Corolla Cross is boring, but for its purpose, there’s nothing wrong with that. For 2023, I think the addition of a hybrid model just about perfects its pragmatic proposition. Is it enough to topple the Subaru Crosstrek, Mazda CX-30, Honda HR-V and Hyundai Kona? Let’s find out.

    I forgot to mention this but a notable nuisance with all corolla crosses, especially the hybrid, is the availability. They’re not easy to find and a markup is somewhat common with hybrids.

    Your reviews are as much fun as they are informative,and I LIKE that. Car reviews by a geeky English major.😊

    Its sad that these sensibly priced economy cars are getting price gouged by dealers everywhere. They knew these are the cars that people want for their daily, and they purposely made it more expensive than MSRP.

      The car salesman just laughed. He's never easily sold a car loaded with everything with such a skimpy interior. But...reliability, low cost to repair, durability, mileage, and at least 5-8K less than the fully loaded RAV4 makes it make sense.

    Super-thorough and sensible review, even touching on that one thing reviewers seldom (i.e., never) touch - reliability. Personally, I'd go for an HR-V if only Honda would increase its power, one way or another.

    Yeah if this car had the Prius interior it would be the total package! Also the Crosstrek would really benefit from this drivetrain.

    $30k-40K for something that looks like an uninspired $20K budget appliance. Also, love the classy-looking muffler & exhaust system hanging down from the rear view. Nice!

      She’s very basic, the muffler looks like a wardrobe malfunction but at the $29-32k mark for an s or se, I like it considering the power and efficiency. Put a markup on that and I’m out immediately.

    Few thing to add. the steering is finger move but when you drive in imperfection road the steering hold it position rather good that don't let your car sway. also this is a commute car for work or grocery so it very good on fuel (5.7L/100km) even when I drive in my aggressive mode. also this is the only Subcompact hybrid available that no other competitor have.

    Thank you for a straight-forward review! You asked for styling comments: I like the gas Cross' styling MUCH better than the Hybrid's--the bulbous nose and larger grill of the Hybrid are, IMHO, ugly! Toyota--please put the hybrid system in the better-looking Cross...and, add a spare tire while you're at it!

    I always enjoy your videos but I’m always perplexed by the 0-60 chart times. There are 2 different times with each car you test, but never any info on the charts why each time is varied. Maybe you could make it more clear in the future? Thanks for all you do. This may be my future car!

    • @Realistick
      @Realistick  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I usually include a little blurb there but the number I circle is called 1 ft rollout. It’s the number that most outlets and manufacturers use when referring to “0-60.” Despite some misinformation out there, it’s the industry standard, which I’m not a big fan of so I include the full sheet so you can use the raw data if you want it! 1ft rollout tends to be around a quarter second less than the actual 0-60 mph.

    • @Realistick
      @Realistick  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      just two drive motors. one up front, one at the rear. There is a third motor but that's "inside" the transmission and doesn't power the wheels.

    i have a corolla cross with 2.0 gas engine and i dont find it underpowered. i use extreme driving style to get 5.0L/100km, which is 47 MPG, better or match the hybrid MPG. i never go over 100km/h, seldom let the engine go over 2500rpm when accelerating and hyper mill when ever possible. so l smile when i see the gas pump, and its a different kind of fun to squeeze for MPG.

    • @Realistick
      @Realistick  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I see, I feel it is alright for the intended purpose but I hear a ton of complaints from people that drive those and 2 liter crosstreks at high elevation (or not) so I more than welcome the hybrid’s existence for people that want more effortless acceleration. It also takes efficiency to the extreme too so if you can really manage 47, the hybrid would be insane for you!

    The Corolla Cross isn’t as good as a Subaru Crosstrek or Forester in off road conditions & the Corolla Cross’s engine is wimpy

    • @Realistick
      @Realistick  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Indeed it’s not good for off-roading, not the point. The hybrid corolla cross is quicker, far more efficient and more practical than a crosstrek. It’s all about what’s important to you. (I’d pick the crosstrek personally)

    • @walltiger6603

      @@Realistick we drove Toyota’s for 40+ years but after buying 1/4 of a mountain and building our home into the side, we got tired of having to put studded tires on our vehicles for our cold snowy winter months. Our Toyota’s were AWD.
      I bought my wife an Outback for her birthday and she drove it the first 2 winters with just the factory all season tires and we never had a problem.
      Last year I wanted to replace my 12 year old Rav 4WD so I bought a Forester Touring.
      I looked at the Crosstrek, but it didn’t have enough room for my needs.
      We’re very happy with our Subaru’s, but in 2025 we’ll be selling her Outback and our 4WD pickup and buy a new Tacoma Limited hybrid 4WD.
