    You can create a jig square with the D1 for the different products you make. That way you can speed up the projects and increase accuracy. Nice work!

    • @HoboWithWood
      @HoboWithWood  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've made a few jigs. But when engraving with this technique on clear acrylic a jig is not helpful. Each piece needs to be in a different location to be on a virgin primered surface. Without the fresh surface the engraving isn't as successful. Thanks for watching.

    Think multiple acrylic inserts. The seasons....Holidays...children....grandchildren...pets....probaby more. Sell them as extra add on. I am going to try that...I am not interested in selling but will do it for family and friends.

    I have only had my xtool D1 for a month so I am learning also. you can not give settings you use because they probably will not work for other. I am following 10 youtube laser channels and they all say the same thing about settings. I like your presentations. I find them informative and interesting. Keep up the good work

    Great Video I will be trying that. And correct there many conditions for settings, but what is your set condition because that gives a base line, especially with primer on steel. Can you share? a base line to start with could help. I like the technique because trying with Tempura paint is is very un even. Thanks again, great video

    • @HoboWithWood
      @HoboWithWood  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I used various settings. Settings I used most often were 10W, 1998 mm/m, or 33.3 mm/s, 75% power & 317.5 LPI. Single pass.

  • @jessetutterrow4320
    @jessetutterrow4320 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank you for the video. Does it matter what the base metal that the primer is applied to? After the primed metal is used several times can you just strip the primer off and recoat?

    • @HoboWithWood
      @HoboWithWood  ปีที่แล้ว

      I use the metal that came with my honeycomb. When the steel no longer has a clean unmarked surface to use for engraving, I sand it down and put a fresh layer on. I use the Filler and Sandable Primer. This fills the voids from the previous engravings and leaves a smooth surface to start fresh with. Here's a link to the primer I use. amzn.to/3IeQIx4

    not sure if i missed it, but how are you planning to customize the shapes of the plexi? The examples on etsy you showed were in the shape of a football or starwars figure. The diode can't cut out the shape.

    • @HoboWithWood
      @HoboWithWood  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and your question. You didn't miss it. I, too, am learning. The pictures on Etsy with the custom shapes were only for an idea what these are selling for. You are correct about not cutting these with the diode. To get super nice shapes like those, I'm going to use a CNC router to get clean, precise cuts. And if you don't polish the cut edge, it serves as a line in your design when lit. Thanks again for watching. Please subscribe.

  • @rickhoguerealtor
    @rickhoguerealtor ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you use the Cold Galvanizing paint on the steel? If not which one did you use? Also for a point of reference what were your settings on the 10watt that actually worked?

    • @HoboWithWood
      @HoboWithWood  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not used the Cold Galvanizing on my stainless, yet. It's the only reason I haven't returned it yet. I may need it when I go to engrave/mark on stainless. But the most impressive marking on stainless results I've see are from using Cermark. But that stuff is crazy expensive for a simple hobbyist. As for the settings on my 10watt, if you're asking about the settings I used on the acrylic, I'm making a new video today for tests on clear acrylic. It will be only dealing with the settings and technique on clear acrylic. Stay tuned and please subscribe.

    • @rickhoguerealtor
      @rickhoguerealtor ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HoboWithWood I have subscribed, I also have cermark already, but if you touch it it leaves a mark. So I was just looking at the gray color you painted the steel and that is why I asked.

      Some are more aggressive than others when it comes to the licensing infringement. Disney is one of the worst. I've heard tale of them having folks that visit large craft shows and shut down people selling items with Disney characters. if you're making it for your own personal use, you'll probably be okay. But be weary of items that may require a license to produce and sell. I am from NC and have family and friends that have graduated from UNC and NC State. These items I give as gifts for birthdays and holidays.

    How are you cleaning the acrylic after the burn?

    • @HoboWithWood
      @HoboWithWood  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My top secret formulation of two of the most prominent elements on the periodic table combined to create the perfect cleaning solution in most cases. I'll share it with you, but it has to stay between us. Okay? Here the formula H20. I have a really neat device that allows me to simply turn on the tap and it comes out in abundance. It works well on its on. But a drop a dish soap doesn't hurt. Remember this must stay between us.

    • @HoboWithWood
      @HoboWithWood  ปีที่แล้ว

      Jaros thanks for watching. You are new to my channel. I do not talk about settings, except that it absolutely necessary for you to run tests on your laser to determine the best settings for your laser and any given material. My settings will not work for you. My xTool is defective at best. It hasn't been right since the day I opened the box. The only way I'm able to produce any quality work is I test every material to determine what my laser is capable of. I've done more videos engraving acrylic in which I did talk about my settings and showed the tests I did to arrive at the best settings. I suggest watching this, it may answer some questions for you.

    You sure like to hear yourself talk ): and again you do not even give a close hint to the settings, we all understand there are differences in setting for different materials. but there are many other TH-cam videos that give setting to help get things rolling. watch some of the videos from Viper Designed/ glass on the fly. learn how to do them better, you have good info but not having the details is not that helpful. The guys you mentioned do much better and they will give details without fear.

    • @HoboWithWood

      My videos are posted for entertainment purposes only. The channel disclaimer tells you just that. At the time of this recording, I had only been working with the laser for less than 3 weeks. I knew very little compared to what I've learned up to now. But I still don't post settings for my laser. There is no way to guarantee my settings will work for anyone else. The reason I mentioned the guys I do, their channel is more of a "How To." I am an entertainer. If you didn't find it entertaining and would like a refund, send me a receipt for your purchase and I will be happy to send you a refund. While I'm sure you won't find this reply entertaining either, I'm also sure, more will find it entertaining than not. I'm sorry I disappointed you. But I'm used to disappointing others. Ask my ex-wife.
