Thank you thank you thank you Matt!!! I have been waiting for this video for two months since I receive my XTool D1 and F1. My software was part of the demo stage and they have definitely upgraded it. I greatly appreciate your video and now I feel more confident. Thank you very much.

Use masking tape over anything you want to test run. You will have to lower your speed and power but once you get it dialed in just to mark it and not cut through, it works perfectly. I use blue masking tape because the marking turns out better.
Instead of using paint thinner (which is chemically designed to thin oil based paints), you should be using acetone for spray paints where they are ether based. Plus, you wash off the waste into a plastic or metal container, not down your drain where it will pollute your water system (either town water or your water table if you have a leach field).
to piggyback off this, actually just check with your water authority for drainwater if you have city sewage. Many things actually CAN be drained down your normal city sewage (like antifreeze in most places, holy smokes) but never your leach field (like antifreeze, holy smokes)
Instead of using a masking paint that requires thinner or acetone to remove try using water washable tempera paint. Some people brush it on but I invested less than $100 on a Harbor Freight airbrush compressor/air brush set. Apply the tempera paint, let it dry, engrave your image and wash it off with water. That simple!

What is the difference between the default blue laser and the xTool 21064nm infra red laser? They quote that the infra red laser is used to engrave metals and similar materials. But you can do that with the blue one too. Does it just work a lot better?
Not this unit unless you get an IR module. I would consider the xTool F1. You will a video of it on my channel. (Only fiber and infrared lasers will mark & etch metal)
That is an option that you can toggle on. When you select “cut” the laser module kicks into a high powered mode and gives you options for different materials.
Hello! I am having issues with my Xtool D1 Pro Laser. I received it and tried it, the first try was perfect. Then the second time I tried it wouldn't work. The laser would move around but the laser light barely had any strength. It would move around as if it was doing the job and would take the amount of time the project would take, however there were no marks on the plywood or anything and the light was very very weak. You could barely see. I emailed customer service and it has now been a 3 month battle or recommendations and changes they want me to make which I have but nothing has solved the issue. I went ahead and tried another laser head which is the one for metals. I did 1 dog tag that came out beautiful. I went ahead and tried to do another dog tag....same thing happened....the light was too weak barely visible, the laser would move around as if it was doing de project but nothing would engrave. I didn't change anything on the setting from first project to second. I was working with pre-establish material settings. Power speed and all was verified and still nothing. Do you have any idea what it could be or how to fix it?
Great video and explanations. I have a graphic and 3d design background and am really thinking of getting this to complement my 3d printing. Thanks for the video

Juast got my D1 20 watt. Question. Can I adjust the thickness of the etching or am I limited to the width of the laser. I would like my outline of an item to be a little thicker.
If I’m understanding correctly, what you are describing would depend on how thick the lines are on the file you are trying to engrave. If you would like thicker lines, you may need to find a similar file someone made that looks thicker.
Thank you for this video... I have the f1 and when I upload an image (trying to do a soundwave) it keeps asking for DPI and its a very smudgey result... do you have any recommendations?? Thank you!! Doing this on stainless steel bracelet.

Hi, does anyone know how to make lasered creations on the xtool colored? It's advertised as being able to engrave 340+ colors but I can't find anything on how to make the colors appear...
What kind of prepping you are doing for photo portrait engraving on birch with that fast speed and low power? I've struggled to get good quality on my 20w D1 pro. Hope you can help me.
The machine is compatible with different file formats, including SVG, DXF, JPG, JPEG, PNG, BMP, TIF, CR2, and many more. Both vector graphics and raster formats are supported.
I am struggling to learn lightburn maybe I should try laserbox instead. One problem I am having is I think because there are to limit switches on the d1 it seems to slam into the outer edges and makes a awful noise when that happens. My question is how do I stop that from happening. Appreciate your encouraging video
Home first. Then learn about where to start the job; current position vs exact dimensions. Also be aware of start location (the 9 dot grid). If you’re starting at top left and you’re engraving “selected items” they must be at that edge of your on screen project. In other words, if you have vertically, A, B, C and are only engraving B and C, it will skip the location of A even though you’re not outputting it. Also if you have the Blue laser head (with red crosshairs) make sure the Offset is on, for the IR head, it should be off. There are some great tutorials available. www.youtube.com/@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy this guy is good, but has the remarkable ability to take a strong five minute video and stretch it out to twenty. Loves to hear himself talk, but has lots of good info.
Great video, thank you! Would you happen to know if there is a setting for the framing speed in either the Laserbox software, or in Creative Space? My wife's Xtool D1 10w works great, but the framing is so fast, it's hard to tell where exactly the edges will be. In your video, the framing process was much slower than ours is. We have the latest firmware, and the latest software updates. Thank you!
Glowforge is a good machine, but it is ALSO a C02 laser. Which is more powerful. I am a fan of buying xTool and moving up as you learn how to use a diode laser like this.
I was a laser operator in a small steel factory for many years. At home I had a CNC plasma cutter and have made tons of art projects with it. I am interested in this product but my garage is not heated. Would the below freezing temps wreck the machine? Thanks for the video.
Why not laser on 100% and speed up? (instead of power 70% with 126mm/s) would this give the same result? I'm planning on buying a laser but very much dislike the waiting as I did with my 3D printing. So many hours. So, speed is key for me. Any advise?
Very good question. Depending on the material, lower speeds and higher power may be best. Or higher speeds and lower power. This is why I recommend doing a cutting and engraving test file. It will help you to determine which setting is best for you. If you are use to 3d printing, then lasering will be no problem for you.
They make a 40w laser now. I'm just getting into lasers, but at that power it might be worth it to go to fiber or CO2. You want to talk fast. Their are more experienced people to talk to. Good luck.
Since it’s an open unit you can get an enclosure and smoke filter, but most people will use it in a garage or something where they don’t care about smoke
I've had mine for about 4 months and I am very happy with it. I have the 5 watt version, the 10 watt seems like it does cut better so maybe soon I'll upgrade to the 20 watt module.
@@dulcebellz3857 I've had nothing but great results using the 5w for engraving, initially I wanted to cut 3mm delrin plastic for guitar picks and pickguards but unfortunately It didn't work. I see a few people selling their 10w module only since they have the 20w so I might just save some cash and get that..
@@Blash1 So I made the rookie mistake of trying to cut blue plastic sheets with the blue diode laser, it will cut it but it's such a hassle. I did cut red plastic and it was a lot faster. Blue and clear acrylic or plastic will have some issues cutting or engraving right. 3mm to 5mm wood is fine though.

I’m glad you like it! It is such a cool little tool!
If ur only gonna cut then jump to 20w but to engrave the 10w is better but over all the 5w is best for engraving
@@TheSpineSplitter1990 was the 3mm too thick for the laser or what was the problem?
@@Blash1 So I made the rookie mistake of trying to cut blue plastic sheets with the blue diode laser, it will cut it but it's such a hassle. I did cut red plastic and it was a lot faster. Blue and clear acrylic or plastic will have some issues cutting or engraving right. 3mm to 5mm wood is fine though.
Do you seal your hammers or portraits on wood with anything?
I’m a fan of satin urethane
@@CorneliusCreations thanks brother!
