This game can easily dupe someone into thinking oh wow. Until you see the locations, or the 3x3 weapon upgrades that really are just repeated(though I was ok with those) and the woefully enemy pathing. The locations are just...narrow locations throughout the entire game. Sad

Fucking love the music in the game, each level has its own theme. And the battle music that takes over when the aliens start to swarm works well for me.
The shimes you hear when you get a headshot also makes it feel you're one of the orchestra making the music :D

Can you imagine an AVP multiplayer game today done up with something like COD money. Add in a team battle royale mode and make all 3 sides fight each other until one species is left standing.

Been playing Fireteam since launch on PS4 Pro, and am absolutely loving it.
Granted, I've had an itch for a "good" Aliens game for decades - so there's a big bias there. But this game feels like a little love-letter to the whole franchise (not just "Aliens") and I've been having a blast with the progression and unlocks.
I like horde-shooters, and this is very much the kind of Aliens-game I wanted Colonial Marines to be.
I get why you disliked the game, but for me - this is a win.

While watching this, I found myself getting frustrated with the AI teammates constantly getting in the way.
I really respect this guy‘s opinion as far as gaming no holds bar he doesn’t pull punches or have to live for sponsorship I really respect him
Although it isn’t anything mind blowing in terms of gameplay, I’m still really interested in this game just because I’m a huge fan of the Alien Franchise and overall it feels like a love letter to Aliens, with nods to other things like Alien Isolation and even the newer prequel movies. The fact that it isn’t complete garbage and that it’s a cheaper $40 price tag is enough to incite me to purchase
Everything you saw in this video, is the ENTIRE game. Worse actually. The game is actually just the same 10 seconds of gameplay looped for 4 hours.

Still considering getting this, I just need a game where I get to shoot at tons of xenomorphs that doesn't suck. It sounds like the game doesn't suck, it's just nothing special. I can pay $40 for that, though I could see not recommending this to someone at that price if they aren't already really into the franchise.
@Chaz Monzter yeah I'm seeing the same thing. I never got into stuff like Left 4 Dead since zombies are the quickest way to make sure I have no interest in a thing, so I never got burned out on this genre to begin with. So even if it's not great it looks like I'll still get a really enjoyable playthrough at least

I like it. It's not groundbreaking by any stretch, and it's far from perfect, but I had a lot of fun.

Honestly after COlonial Marines, I am just glad they made a competent/decent game and didn't try to reinvent the wheel. I feel like if they had tried to do to much for this game it could easily spiral out of control so I am happy that the game is competent and delivers expected results.
Alien Isolation is arguably the best piece of the series in any medium, to me. You need to play it if you haven't.

Just watch Skill Up's review, man.. it's far more positive than this one and still fill of merit. For some reason ACG has the most negative af all the reviews I'v seen. But to each their own I guess
If you read or listen to the prequel book to this game called Aliens infiltrator you'll get into the story more. I highly suggest it. The game is basic but a damn fun time. For die hards of the Alien franchise this is a must buy...I'm gonna be that guy that posts this on every review.
I'm subbed to multiple reviewers but usually, you and Skill Up are right next to each other on my sub feed whenever a game's embargo is up and I'm honestly shocked at how much of a contrast there was between you two this time. I was considering buying this to try out but I honestly thought that it was going to be priced for less than it currently is. If I'm in the mood, I might buy this when it's half off in a year or two when there's been a few patches but until then I'm glad I generally watch reviews first.

My brother and I enjoy it enough for what it is. And janky sometimes totally but over all. It's pretty fun definitely interested where they are taking it. Plus this is the companies first game gotta take that into mind
If you remember Alien/Aliens the scary part was how extremely narrow the corridors were. If you have to funnel a team down a single file passageway where only the lead and rear person can effectively fire at enemies it would go a long way to enhance the terror of the fight. Everything in this game seems wide enough everyone can walk shoulder to shoulder thru.

Man, why can't the Aliens or Predator franchises get a polished game experience. If you remove Alien Isolation, there hasn't been a noteworthy game in either of these franchises in 20 years.
That’s pretty much how I feel about it. Although WayFoward/Gearbox pulled-off an interesting metroidvania-style Aliens game back in 2011 for the Nintendo DS, called Aliens: Infestation. Even had permadeath and face-hugger infections. I’m opting-in for Nightdive Studios to get the rights for a remaster of the PC AVP with all of its multiplayer bits intact. They’ve done stellar work with Quake, Turok 1 & 2, Doom 64.

Does it work well for 2 player co op or do you need to be 3-4 players?
My favorite part of the review was the comment about the character's arm doing a windmill pattern to change weapons, and having that exact animation paired up in the video. Gave me a good laugh!
Let's just appreciate the lightning in a bottle that was alien isolation. And never forget ign gave it a 6/10 because it was "too hard", effectively killing the chance for a sequel.

Damn, two reviews in one day. Nicely done! As a long time Alien fan (both bad and good) bummed that this one didn't hit. Still like to check it out, but i'll be waiting for a deep sale (or GamePass) for sure.

I'm getting on this on PS4 and for 40 bucks I think I can let it slide since this is a ''AA'' type of a game and it can be play offline for solo play which I couldn't do in Outriders. Horde shooters are such a saturated market as of late. Personally I'm looking for a game to come along that shakes up the standard formula, this doesn't look like it fits the bill for me personally. Great review as always ACG, yourself and Worth a Buy are my absolute go-to's
I don't agree with his overall assessment as I've been playing a physical retail copy single player for a few days now (some places sold it early for whatever reason) but do definitely agree that it's not bringing anything new to the table. It's a focused offering that is enjoyable but gets a big boost from the Aliens factor. It's exceeding my personal expectations and I think the review is a bit harsh but can understand why others may only be lukewarm towards the game.

Horde shooters in general are boring and shitty, if they aren't released with tons of maps/upgrades/weapons etc., because the community dies out otherwise by the time they add new content to keep the game fresh
@@0verWay It's because the mechanics are usually incredibly basic. The progression for difficulty is almost always the same as well. This feels like the another exploitation of a well loved IP to flog a pretty cheap game. And it's a real shame after the brilliant Alien Isolation that Sega hasn't been able to make another good Alien game in SEVEN years. There's so much scope for one as well but personally it has to be a single player campaign. If they want to add a MP element okay (though I'd rather they focused their entire budget on making the SP experience the best it can be).

For some reason I really really like the Alien/Predator world, the creatures and things, and the only movies I liked were the first two Alien movies and I even enjoyed AvP. This just isn't my genre and a windmill weapon swap to a purple weapon had me laughing. I do like the terrain textures on some of the areas there. Thanks for the great review, as always

@@MrAlam471 personally I enjoy having reviewers that I disagree with :) Both Skillup and ACG covers gamed in a way where it feels very good whether you agree or disagree. I know I get their viewpoints and their arguments delivered in a way where I understand where they are coming from and a bit about their preferances. And it suits me fine as someone who not only likes many of the same games, but just enjoy games in general. Which for instance is why ACG's Walking the Walks are so phenomenal for me. I think his reviews are absolutely amazing too. But I also enjoy SkillUps reviews :) but they have very different methods I think.
In terms of this game I just find it interesting that they have so different experiences. But for mw the game is a "Buy on deep sale IF your friends wants to play it with you".

Yes, that is the only reason I'd play co-op with someone. It's weird why split screen modes are absent from most current releases.

@@sevenforcex Yeah it sucks, there are very few you can both enjoy in the same place. Some couch co-op stuff like NO Way out, Unravel 2, The Ascent. Halo mcc and COD do have options but for the most part they have small aspect ratio's or or limited to certain modes. I hear Halo is bringing back split screen, hopefully it is optimized carefully like the first 2.
That windmill move is how I wanna take out and put things in my pockets.
Those x marks after killing an enemy looks like they really pull you out the immersion.

I'm glad that you released this review now. I love the Alien franchise, and I was really excited for this title. I had a feeling that this game wasn't going to be a hit at full price, and I will definately wait until this game can drop in price, and release more content.
To be fair this is the only negative review I have came across so it’s probably in your best interest to watch more than just acg. Look at multiple reviews and form a opinion

Is there a way to use DLSS, where it doesn’t make everything look all fuzzy? I’ve tried it on Rage 2 and Cyberpunk and both times it went from crisp clean lines to everything looking like it was covered in small fine hair or something.

I pre ordered it, you can tell the devs are respecting the IP, I trust them sorting out most of the balance issues and sound issues and correct me if I'm wrong but the studio isn't large PLUS its only £35 so realistically I am not expecting the best game ever, just a fun L4D style game :D

seems like they have atleast 4 seasons planned with free gameplay content like missions and enemies and stuff, so hopefully this is a game with a solid base that continues to get better.

I'm thinking they could save it with the season updates and how they deploy patches, maybe the dev team will listen to customers if we have "recommendations". I haven't played anything else they made to know if they do.

Why couldn't they have just delayed the game a bit and include the rest of that stuff? i decided to go for king's bounty 2 instead of fireteam, and after seeing the review im glad i did.
With so many games with so much promise, that are either released half finished and/or a virtual mess taking a year plus to fix, my expectations are low.
I wait months after game releases since vast majority of AAA can't be trusted.
Indie seems to be doing much better so AAA gets the two finger salute. 🤗🤗
I'm usually right there with ACG with his reviews, but this one missed the mark for me. To each their own, but I'm loving the game. It's surprising to me how different this review is from most others I've seen, ACG is the first I've seen pretty much universally pan the game. Though, like I said, to each their own. Still a quality review as usual.
Yeah he tried to be cool by being “different” and it failed badly. Now I question his judgment moving forward, sadly. Glad to see the devs have put out 3 patches so far fixing the matchmaking. Here’s to hoping we get a quick play option in the future 🤞🏻
Same. Really loving this game and I’m still having fun leveling a different class and the harder difficulties. Looking forward to the DLC

Agreed - I've been having a blast with A:FE. It's not perfect, and I can sort of get the "cheap feeling" he mentions, but damn if this game isn't much better than I expected it to be.

Interesting, how this review is totally different to SkillUp's. Lipsync and optimisation is where you agree, but the rest is totally different story.
When they disagree it's like Mom and Dad are fighting and we're stuck in the middle. But I think I'm still getting this one--SkillUp's tastes are just a wee bit more consonant with mine, I think.
