My problem with it is that it is online only, from what I have read. What happens in a few years when the servers get shutdown? It becomes completely useless, including all the content I paid for? Kind of like the first Titanfall.
@@scsc9311 yea you can play with bots(imagine left4dead bots if you've played it) but their skill level only lasts on standard difficulty, dont bring them on intense or higher.
Beat the first missionr repeatedly on Intense to get the cool weapons. Its random, so sometimes you may not get a weapon, but that is where you get the awesome tech.
My biggest criticism is the lack of levels and classic guns Idk i wish there were more levels, more variety on them, maybe some places from the 2010 AVP game, a full on alien hive, LV 426 surface, more HR Giger inspired places And i want a M41a pulse rifle with the underbarrel grenade launcher and classic colonial marine armor
I'll admit that more weapons from the second film would be awesome. Hopefully that's planned for season 3 and 4. I disagree the levels aren't diverse in design though. The giants of the earth chapter has heaps of giger influenced interiors and there's an alien hive in the last chapter?
I just got the game on sale and im loving it. I find it extremely fun and I completely agree about how the game went right over the heads of game journalists . For me it has a very high replay value. Great video

Just went ahead and bought this on steam after playing it a lot on Xbox gamepass for PC. Decided to just get the deluxe and start over. Super fun game and as of TODAY they have added cross play. Game has been steadily gaining players on steam too. Very good on the developers for doing very well at supporting the game, it’s really building up a community

Cheers! Post launch support for the game has been great. They are clearly listening to and observing people playing the game and making great little quality of life changes on top of adding new content. Adding challenge cards to horde mode for example has breathed new life into that mode.
It's not a AAA game that IGN got paid to review. Therefore it will never be "good" For me, this game is a solid 9. For the price and someone who likes Alien's, this game is great.
Yeah I've noticed that some of the bigger outlets judge everything the same. Like AA or indy title should have the same scale, features and polish of a AAA game.
I can't say enough how much i appreciate the fact that someone finally made *AN HONEST REVIEW* of this game, meaning : actually play the game *on the intended difficulty level,* actually progress enough to experience the differences in Aliens' behavior, weapons, etc. I mean, the usual big video game outlet's review for this game (IGN, etc) was absolutely lazy AF, sloppy, and they just didn't care at all. It's like they barely played the game for a couple hours before calling it quits and then slapping a random crap number on it for a score, and that's it. I've occasionally had to blitz through games to meet a deadline and it really sucks the fun out of it. That's why I thought it was worth reviewing so late in the piece. I didn't actually intend on doing a review but I loved it so much I felt like I needed to share my opinion and offset some of the negative chatter.
I've been dancing back n forth about whether to buy this game for frickin months, man! I've watched & read a countless number of opinions/reviews/tips articles and videos since its release and it's always a tug-o-war back n forth on me hitting the 'CONFIRM PURCHASE' button... But finally, your review right here, was legit the tipping point over the crescendo that made me buy it about 5 mins ago on sale for $20 USD. And this is coming from a majority Solo player with games like this(B4B, R6 Extraction, CoD Zombies). This review video was incredible and you have a new subscriber. 🤘🏻 Keep that sh*t up and thanks a lot!

"There isn't enough content" and "You are just doing the same thing over and over" It's the same criticisms all the time from people who doesn't understand the genre. Sure there can be validity to the lack of content argument in some cases. But in most people just don't have the will or the attention span to dive into the mechanics and find the depth of the game. I really enjoy these re-reviews and it feels a lot like how modern game reviewing should be done.
Thanks! I think a lot of people assume or expect that this is a narrative-driven experience, along the lines of something like Jedi Fallen Order. And maybe that’s because of the IP. The survival, co-op shooter is also a reasonably esoteric genre so people’s expectations are all over the place. People don't criticise fighting games or puzzle games for being repetitious or for lacking content because they are well-established genres and people know what to expect. I guess ultimately it's a failing of the marketing and on-boarding to properly communicate what kind of game it is. Reviewers then make it worse by not being able to spend adequate time with the game to describe it accurately.
making it the same criticism doesn't mean they're fake, they're speaking the truth, this game is dead, it literally has no new content since it came out last year, game is so short.
Finally someone said it. Review critics don’t understand it’s intent and purpose and proceeds to trash it. This game is fun as hell with the perks and many options. Yes we all agree it needs new content and the reason we don’t walk is because it’s good. Thank you!
I feel like every time I play it I unlock something new that changes my strategy for each mission or that lets me jump into a harder difficulty. "No reason to replay it'... bah I say!

Happy to sub and add you to my list of reviewers I trust more as I agree, the big players in the industry seldom seem to give many games a fair shot, while one would assume that's likely due to not being given the appropriate time to do so. I downloaded this from PS store as it was cheap, very pick up and play but enough upgrades and cosmetics to keep you going. But it’s really good fun, and the weapon classes are varied and different. I’m really enjoying it

I really wish there was a way to play a demo of this. I would be playing on ps5. I'm 99% sure I would love it, since I'm a lifelong Die Hard fan of the alien films, and I mostly love third person shooting games.
Trust me then Bro because I’m a fan of the films as well, YOU WILL LOVE Aliens Fireteam! Pretty much all of the lore from all of the films( prequels included) is scattered throughout the game. I’d say go through the story mode alone so you can really enjoy all of the fan service that is apparent from start to finish. The gameplay is solid and your typical 3rd person shooter. It feels a little bit like the Division, but not as smooth. The weapons are solid as well and there’s a nice variety. The game does get a little repetitious, but it takes a while for it to get there. But that’s typical for most shooters in general. It was really smart for them to release AFT as a budget title, that’s why the install base is pretty huge and why you’ll never have a problem playing with randoms! So go for it homie, you won’t be sorry!😎
This is an amazing review! I’m a die hard Aliens fan and this game though repetitive and has it’s issues is really fun and keeps you in your toes at all times. If anyone is on PS5 (or PS4), and you want to have a go on this game, I run people through the campaign all the time (that’s where the fun is - helping support others). I don't know about the console versions but pc version is miserable just for the fact that this "co-op" game doesn't have a voice or text chat. It's mindblowing how such an important and simple feature doesn't exist in a modern v i d e o g a m e. It drives me fucking nuts this game doesn't deserve positive reviews on Steam.

The devs actually listen to the community and the money is helpful they're not greedy like other companies but what I find funny is you have people complain about Colonial Marines which was mainly story based and then you have this game which is mainly combat based.
I just finished the campaign today (standard and bots), I enjoyed it the more I played it, though I understand why reviewers (who need to push out reviews ASAP and often don't get games early enough to properly review) weren't high on it... the initial grind from Rank 1 to 3 for new players is PAINFUL. It's honestly so dull and I was thinking of quitting. I bit the bullet and grinded to level up, use challenge cards etc and finally got access to more perks and it made it so, so much more fun. So I think the devs didn't get the ranking unlocks balanced right; it took me far longer to go 1-3 than it did 3-6! I get why they did this, they want you to learn the game and make the end game more rewarding, but it probably caused a lot of "normal" players to miss out on the good bits. Since it's their first game hopefully they're learning how to better drip-feed unlocks for players to keep you hooked from the start, instead of hiding it all in the end-game, which you will never reach if you just run through the campaign on Casual once and call it a day. The game demands time and effort for reward but doesn't show you just how rewarding it will be. Maybe do it Diablo style and have a lot more ranks, but fewer unlocks per rank? So you get one toy at a time instead of several at once...?
Totally agree. Ranking up a class is not very fun for the first few levels. Once you hit level 5 it's a game-changer though. Unlocking better weapons and perks earlier would be a perfect solution. Most of the game's best gear can only be unlocked by playing it on intense or above which means that loads of players will never see it.

This is going to sound weird but I feel this is the spiritual successor to the Alien 3 era of games. Especially with Runners being the main enemy. The action is face paced but not slower with how JC Aliens was. I hope one day we get the Alien isolation of Aliens with how we got it for Alien. I loved this game btw as I loved the Alien 3 era of games.
I think I’m going to cave and snag this while it’s on sale. I’ve got one friend that has it but already told me he had no interest in diving back in but it still looks like a solid game to me and I’m sure randoms’ll fill in the gaps.
So far what the game needs it’s more campaign levels and horde maps, play the same it’s boring I understand the replay in a high difficulty but 4 chapters it’s too short, take zombie army 4 as a reference they have 9 chapters in main and 4 in dlc and like 8-10 maps for horde mode, if you think it it’s a little bit too much effort build your entire class just for 4 chapters, it’s not a bad game just too short to take advantage of his mechanics 🧐
I've probably played every level at least 10 times now and I getting to the the point of wanting more too. Another chapter would be great but I believe thats what the August paid DLC will be. I'd love a couple more horde maps too. Its a surprisingly fun mode but yeah, 1 map isn't enough
They need new maps, longer campaign. Make the Phalanx THE tank class. Option to use unlocked challenge cards as unlimited but no rewards as a solo/ private run and/ or set search games which have challenge cards enabled but no rewards/ exp/ credits. For example I would love to have fewer stronger enemies. Have to empty magazines before inserting new one. Mix and match. 1st person mode aswell if desired, coupled with fewer enemies a d smarter a.i overall could give us a kinda fps aliens game until Cold Iron or another dev team goes for it.

Deluxe contains 99% cosmetic items. There is one weapon included but it's not a game changer. The cosmetics are cool if you're into that sort of thing.
I won't deny that a PVP mode would be cool but that's just not what this game is. It would be like being disappointed that gran turismo doesn't have destruction derby mode.
The deluxe/special editions only give you cosmetic items, so unless you're a diehard fan I'd probably just stick with the standard edition. While you can play by yourself with bots, the games is multiplayer only.
Too bad playing solo with ai isn't more interesting. And not much tactical choices u can make i guess if no commands at all to ai. Or plan. That's why im looking forward to dark descent, solo tactical play with ai. Will try this one when low price. Did they add maps to other modes? Is the ai good enough? And unpredictable.. Is there randomness to enemies?
Yes, both new free and paid maps and modes were added. I wouldn't say the alien AI is advanced. Their focus is overwhelming you with numbers. Synthetics though will flank, take cover and blind fire. Yes. Enemy spawns particularly for the aliens are generally unpredictable. Big battles always play out in the same areas but still vary quite a bit.

Im,just trying now the ascent, jesus chr.., been long since i felt like a kid at xmas in gaming, but this games world design is a dream come true for a cyberpunk fan of blade runner, matrix rev etc. I diverge hehe, just overwhelmed.. Hope they make a full on rpg with a world like this and more even, on newgen machines.

Gah.. g-journos should indeed use more than 1-2 hours. Long read below, opinions. I Love this game. Its gotten better and the lore is quite deep if you bother dig into it by getting all collectables and speak with folks. I do wish a revamp of the Phalanx, the shield should be countering more. The true tank class. The new Lancer class kinda steals its place. A 1st person vuew was intended but iced. Would still love to have an option, as with not bringing any synths and/ or main weapons on missions for a great challenge. Also many if not all challenge card gameplay changes should be unlimited once unlocked once and able/ disable options but no rewards. Custom mix and match. ALOT of respect for the source material and they have set the game some time in the future after the first 3, 4? Alien movies. Giving them armwidth to fit in with the stablished books/ games/ films canon material, even avp. But as the lead dev said. Its kinda up to fans too, to see how it all fits. I learned there are three main factions ruling human space. United Americas, Three World Empire and Union of Pt Progressive Peoples. Main industry/ corpos are linked with each mostly but a few exceptions. WY are linked to UA and Colonial marines, but mostly to TWE. UACM hqve Armat as their equipment and weapon producer. The UPP have Hyperdyne which sells blueprints in which the less tech savy but very populated UPP can use to print say, weapons by ordinary manufacturing 3D printers. Cheers!
The Standard Difficulty + Power creep really threw this game off. The first chapter might have a challenging moment or two, but then you begin to snowball. The power creep essentially requires you to start over or grind a new class or weapon, when you could easily just finish the game fairly mindlessly. Couple this with teammates with no interest in switching, grinding, or replaying one of the very few chapters you've just completed, and the incentive is to just snowball forward and miss out on a large part of the game with little strategy.
You don't even get close to unlocking everything after playing through the entire game the first time. You'd have to be a god to beat it on intense or above without having leveled up your class to at least 5 and there's 7 classes to level up. Not to mention a lot of the best perks and weapons are only unlocked by playing missions on intense or above and the drop is RNG so even if you get lucky, you only unlock one thing each mission.
Lol??? I have 150 hours on this game with almost everything unlocked. Every weapon can be viable it just depends how you use it and having all the classes max level benefits you a lot. Its not useless at all

Watch "Aliens" 1986 again. The fights were chaotic and aliens were coming out of the walls. The marines were in constant retreat. Its a fairly faithful adaptation of those battles. It is far superior to "Aliens: Colonial Marines" in both style and tone.

You can actually play offline with bots. It's not nearly as good as real people though.

Just tried this game. It's bloody awesome. Only complaint is that its too short! The balance of weapons and classes is brilliant
I'm telling you. Rank up your classes, play around with the setups and replay missions on higher difficulties.

I really wish there was a way to play a demo of this. I would be playing on ps5. I'm 99% sure I would love it, since I'm a lifelong Die Hard fan of the alien films, and I mostly love third person shooting games.
Trust me then Bro because I’m a fan of the films as well, YOU WILL LOVE Aliens Fireteam! Pretty much all of the lore from all of the films( prequels included) is scattered throughout the game. I’d say go through the story mode alone so you can really enjoy all of the fan service that is apparent from start to finish.
The gameplay is solid and your typical 3rd person shooter. It feels a little bit like the Division, but not as smooth. The weapons are solid as well and there’s a nice variety. The game does get a little repetitious, but it takes a while for it to get there.
But that’s typical for most shooters in general. It was really smart for them to release AFT as a budget title, that’s why the install base is pretty huge and why you’ll never have a problem playing with randoms!

This is an amazing review! I’m a die hard Aliens fan and this game though repetitive and has it’s issues is really fun and keeps you in your toes at all times. If anyone is on PS5 (or PS4), and you want to have a go on this game, I run people through the campaign all the time (that’s where the fun is - helping support others). My PSN name is the same as here on TH-cam 😉

I don't know about the console versions but pc version is miserable just for the fact that this "co-op" game doesn't have a voice or text chat. It's mindblowing how such an important and simple feature doesn't exist in a modern v i d e o g a m e. It drives me fucking nuts this game doesn't deserve positive reviews on Steam.

The devs actually listen to the community and the money is helpful they're not greedy like other companies but what I find funny is you have people complain about Colonial Marines which was mainly story based and then you have this game which is mainly combat based.

I love the game. But only problem is. It's to damn short.
I just finished the campaign today (standard and bots), I enjoyed it the more I played it, though I understand why reviewers (who need to push out reviews ASAP and often don't get games early enough to properly review) weren't high on it... the initial grind from Rank 1 to 3 for new players is PAINFUL. It's honestly so dull and I was thinking of quitting. I bit the bullet and grinded to level up, use challenge cards etc and finally got access to more perks and it made it so, so much more fun. So I think the devs didn't get the ranking unlocks balanced right; it took me far longer to go 1-3 than it did 3-6! I get why they did this, they want you to learn the game and make the end game more rewarding, but it probably caused a lot of "normal" players to miss out on the good bits. Since it's their first game hopefully they're learning how to better drip-feed unlocks for players to keep you hooked from the start, instead of hiding it all in the end-game, which you will never reach if you just run through the campaign on Casual once and call it a day. The game demands time and effort for reward but doesn't show you just how rewarding it will be. Maybe do it Diablo style and have a lot more ranks, but fewer unlocks per rank? So you get one toy at a time instead of several at once...?
Totally agree. Ranking up a class is not very fun for the first few levels. Once you hit level 5 it's a game-changer though. Unlocking better weapons and perks earlier would be a perfect solution. Most of the game's best gear can only be unlocked by playing it on intense or above which means that loads of players will never see it.

The roadmap doesn't mention new maps for the horde mode, although it doesn't explicitly say there won't be new maps either.

This is going to sound weird but I feel this is the spiritual successor to the Alien 3 era of games. Especially with Runners being the main enemy. The action is face paced but not slower with how JC Aliens was. I hope one day we get the Alien isolation of Aliens with how we got it for Alien.

So far what the game needs it’s more campaign levels and horde maps, play the same it’s boring I understand the replay in a high difficulty but 4 chapters it’s too short, take zombie army 4 as a reference they have 9 chapters in main and 4 in dlc and like 8-10 maps for horde mode, if you think it it’s a little bit too much effort build your entire class just for 4 chapters, it’s not a bad game just too short to take advantage of his mechanics 🧐
I've probably played every level at least 10 times now and I getting to the the point of wanting more too. Another chapter would be great but I believe thats what the August paid DLC will be. I'd love a couple more horde maps too. Its a surprisingly fun mode but yeah, 1 map isn't enough
They need new maps, longer campaign. Make the Phalanx THE tank class. Option to use unlocked challenge cards as unlimited but no rewards as a solo/ private run and/ or set search games which have challenge cards enabled but no rewards/ exp/ credits. For example I would love to have fewer stronger enemies. Have to empty magazines before inserting new one. Mix and match. 1st person mode aswell if desired, coupled with fewer enemies a d smarter a.i overall could give us a kinda fps aliens game until Cold Iron or another dev team goes for it.

Deluxe contains 99% cosmetic items. There is one weapon included but it's not a game changer. The cosmetics are cool if you're into that sort of thing.

I won't deny that a PVP mode would be cool but that's just not what this game is. It would be like being disappointed that gran turismo doesn't have destruction derby mode.

The deluxe/special editions only give you cosmetic items, so unless you're a diehard fan I'd probably just stick with the standard edition.
While you can play by yourself with bots, the games is multiplayer only.
Buy deep rock Galactic, Zombie army 4 or WorldWarZ instead

I wouldn't say the alien AI is advanced. Their focus is overwhelming you with numbers. Synthetics though will flank, take cover and blind fire.
Yes. Enemy spawns particularly for the aliens are generally unpredictable. Big battles always play out in the same areas but still vary quite a bit.

Im,just trying now the ascent, jesus chr.., been long since i felt like a kid at xmas in gaming, but this games world design is a dream come true for a cyberpunk fan of blade runner, matrix rev etc.

Gah.. g-journos should indeed use more than 1-2 hours. Long read below, opinions. I Love this game. Its gotten better and the lore is quite deep if you bother dig into it by getting all collectables and speak with folks. I do wish a revamp of the Phalanx, the shield should be countering more. The true tank class. The new Lancer class kinda steals its place. A 1st person vuew was intended but iced. Would still love to have an option, as with not bringing any synths and/ or main weapons on missions for a great challenge. Also many if not all challenge card gameplay changes should be unlimited once unlocked once and able/ disable options but no rewards. Custom mix and match. ALOT of respect for the source material and they have set the game some time in the future after the first 3, 4? Alien movies. Giving them armwidth to fit in with the stablished books/ games/ films canon material, even avp. But as the lead dev said. Its kinda up to fans too, to see how it all fits. I learned there are three main factions ruling human space. United Americas, Three World Empire and Union of Pt
Progressive Peoples. Main industry/ corpos are linked with each mostly but a few exceptions. WY are linked to UA and Colonial marines, but mostly to TWE. UACM hqve Armat as their equipment and weapon producer. The UPP have Hyperdyne which sells blueprints in which the less tech savy but very populated UPP can use to print say, weapons by ordinary manufacturing 3D printers. Cheers!

The Standard Difficulty + Power creep really threw this game off.
The first chapter might have a challenging moment or two, but then you begin to snowball.
The power creep essentially requires you to start over or grind a new class or weapon, when you could easily just finish the game fairly mindlessly.
Couple this with teammates with no interest in switching, grinding, or replaying one of the very few chapters you've just completed, and the incentive is to just snowball forward and miss out on a large part of the game with little strategy.
not really worth it when u can get end game build with just a few run with each class and theres not that meny lvls to play throu
You don't even get close to unlocking everything after playing through the entire game the first time. You'd have to be a god to beat it on intense or above without having leveled up your class to at least 5 and there's 7 classes to level up. Not to mention a lot of the best perks and weapons are only unlocked by playing missions on intense or above and the drop is RNG so even if you get lucky, you only unlock one thing each mission.

Lol??? I have 150 hours on this game with almost everything unlocked. Every weapon can be viable it just depends how you use it and having all the classes max level benefits you a lot. Its not useless at all
I bought Deep Rock Galactic instead and having endless fun, while I refunded this garbo in less than 30 minutes, bc I fell asleep playing it

Watch "Aliens" 1986 again. The fights were chaotic and aliens were coming out of the walls. The marines were in constant retreat. Its a fairly faithful adaptation of those battles. It is far superior to "Aliens: Colonial Marines" in both style and tone.
