Besides a few exceptions, I'm surprised we haven't had THAT many amazing games considering the sheer potential of the Aliens license/lore. Here's to hoping this game starts a positive trend!
This is like I thought it will be, way to fucking easy. If an alien is in grab distance you should be fucking dead, period! Na and you cant evade it. Ever tried to evade a cat? Nope!

I pitched a cool idea for an alien game in college not too long ago.
Not everything needs to be milked dry. I prefer an Alien isolation once every 10 years that 40 000 bad and average Warhammer games.
well last 2 or 3 games were focused on being co-op multiplayer horde shooters. All of witch I don't think made it too far . I am not really sure why they haven't looked at aliens vs predator 2 or 3. Or juts focused on playing as an alien in a ship trying to slowly build up the hive .
The facehugger prompt was probably the only viable solution to include them and keep the game balanced.

@@Gatorade69 Absolutely loved playing the game years ago as the Alien, was so cool going through the life cycle. My favorite campaign is still Marines for obvious reasons, but a new Aliens game where you can go through the life cycle with modern tech would be awesome.
@@graphite7898 Definitely. AVP2 did a lot of cool things. I remember playing multiplayer on 56k and it just being horrible trying to shoot aliens with that sort of conenction. Still think It's one of the best Alien games (and Predator),
Interesting thing about the soundtrack is that it was written by Austin Wintory, the composer from Journey. He's got some great videos on his channel discussing it with Troy Baker and going back through the history of music in the series.

"If it wasn't for the Aliens license, it would be a run-of-the-mill horde shooter" So I guess that's why Deep Rock Galactic is so brilliant. It stands on it's own two feet with no licence attached to it and is basically the best game I've played in years.

Having one of the teammates do some chore while you have to keep him alive while being undermanned, and he does something where he can mess up and make this task take longer would be an amazing concept.
if you like that idea you should check out gtfo if you haven't already. Similar kind of squad based weird alien game but there's objectives where someone has to hack a computer and legitimately type stuff while the aliens are swarming, makes it really intense, specially if you misttype.

I was genuinely surprised to hear the Gman say he liked this game. I had major Aliens: Colonial Marines vibes from everything I saw up to this point, but I reckon I'll check it out. I still wish they had done something along the lines of the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes, or even Dead Space 2, where it had more of a survival horror gameplay style. It always feels to me like it cheapens the Alien to throw approximately one thousand of them at you at high speed just for them to get cut to ribbons by bullets, but that was also a complaint some people had about James Cameron's take on Alien 2 anyway. For what it's worth, the best Aliens game ever made is the Electric Dreams' C64 version called - Aliens. If you've never seen it, check it out and be amazed at how 8 bit gameplay and brutal sci fi horror were merged way before the web was even a thing.
Nah the only reason is hype. Aliens colonial marines was more of an "Aliens" game, that certainly did the xenomorph better justice than this... but it was also a very disappointing game that let down everyone's expectations. No one can be disappointed in a game they didn't know was ever coming out tho, which is why this game isn't being slammed.

Gonna have to disagree hard with you there, there's no survival horror in Dead Space 2. Its just an action game. Which was good for it, because Dead Space 1 was embarrassing in those regards.
The funny thing is, Colonial Marines (the unit, not the game) do go on massive bug hunts (according to lore). Weyland-Yutani are absolute dicks. They are constantly engaging with the Xeno Threat.
Alien fits so many genres in video games, from Stealth (Playing as an Alien in AVP), to Horde Shooter (like this), to Survival Horror (Alien Isolation), that I'm so glad that it's grounded in Science Fiction as much as horror. Excellent addition to the franchise.

I still remember how intimidated I was as a kid by the very premise of Aliens, after seeing the damage that one Xenomorph did in the original (sort of like comparing Terminator 1 to 2). Ripley's line to Vasquez chilled me the first time I heard it:
"Just one of those things managed to wipe out my entire crew in less than twenty-four hours! And if the colonists have found that ship, there's no telling how many have been exposed." It was a great way to drive home the gravity of this setup.
Next thing I know, we're not only seeing dozens-hundreds of new-and-improved Xenos swarming but a super-sized Queen species to boot. It was perhaps the perfect visual for the term "suicide mission", which is what I saw the whole concept as.

Seeing an Aliens game again brings me back to movie theater arcades…
I always find it strange that quick time events always end up being like a cinematic slow motion with plenty of time to react and decide what to do.
Dead Space and Resident Evil 4 already perfected them, just have them show a tell that it's coming, have a fake out attack animation that looks like the tell to test players learning and don't give them 45 minutes to respond with an action.
Asura's Wrath was the game that proved to me that quick-time events can be so much more than a gameplay crutch.

Random generated spawns are a must for games like these. Like the game director in b4b where the game director can also choose modifierlike challenge cards like the player. This would crank up the replayability massively

Started playing this today and I'm loving it, wanted a game like this since I was a kid. The smart gun is so bad ass.
You playing single player? If so, how is it?
@@MrThankman360 It's fine in single player on lowest difficulty but later levels on anything higher and the bots don't help at all, once you level up and get better perks and equipment you can manage tho.
@@ginjaninja2666 even leveled up on intense I tend to fail in the final arenas on the later acts. Warrior shows up it's almost certain death for bots. Which means it's just me trying to kill the dozens of fodder with a warrior chasing me. Stupid matchmaking needs to consistently find players.

There should def be FF even on the lowest difficulty. Just make it so the damage you take/deal by accident is lesser than the higher difficulty modes

Honestly, not sure why that's a bad thing...especially for a budget title. If I can buy this for $30-40 and get 20-40 hours out of it I'll be happy, I think.
I think that was what most people thought about World War Z, and look how well it did. If this game will receive the same post-launch support/treatment, it might reserve a respectable community.

@@supamarioisbeast I know I've heard people say the same thing about stuff like Vermintide and those are still going strong too. They already have something like a year of post-launch support in the wings and all of that is going to be free.
Dead space extraction did the welding thing and room physics during rail moments . even telekenisis is valuable.

Man, everything about this screams "no thanks" to me and I'm a diehard Aliens fan. Big open arenas, waves of fodder Xenos, big spongey miniboss Xenos, third person, weird MMO like class abilities, basically just endless blasting away with no story or tension.. look I would really like a co-op Aliens game, but something more tactical and slow burning. Claustraphobic, dark, no idea where the enemy could come from. Slowly building up to a big creshendo instead of walking into a big open room and fighting waves of fodder. idk
The 3rd person camera was a gigantic mistake. Should've been 1st person like Left 4 Dead.
Last great Aliens game was AVP2 2001. Nothing like that today. Real shame.
It reminds me of one of the game modes in AvP2 - when you had a starting bunch of Marines and one alien, and every dead marine added to Aliens. Damn, this created some wonderful tension and amazing matches.

You’d think the military, would learn to equip their marines with some kind of helmet, that covers the face and blocks the face huggers from impregnating them.
I think the second recon ability is super helpful on Intense and above. This is an arcade shooter at its core, it helps the player locate targets a lot sooner in the spawn and let’s them set up accordingly.
My gamer friends love these types of repetitive shooters so I'm glad to see one that I'll actually be interested in because of the license lol

For the recon class, the radar ability also decreases the damage enemies do by 20%, with further modifications later on as well. It's pretty essential for the harder difficulties where you can get wiped by ambushes, as well as the ammo buff being pretty essential since you have less ammo in harder difficulties. I think that's why they locked it until you beat the game and also unlock the harder difficulties.
So one second your like “there’s no escort missions, there’s no pick up this or drop off that. It’s just killing xenos”
Then your like “there’s no mission variety! Bad game!”

The amount of subtle references you manage to fit in this video, wow, I guess you like to keep puns handy for close encounters.
This kind of makes me want another AvP game in a similar style. Humans v Xenomorphs with Predators showing up to break up the gameplay, Predators v Humans with Xenomorphs coming in waves between firefights, and a multiplayer mode where Humans and Predators play a squad based longform mission ala For Honor with hordes of XENOS pouring in periodically that makes it potentially tactically advantageous to work with your opponent.
"Fun with friends" is, in my opinion, a valid, positive trait when reviewing a game designed around multiplayer coop and where singleplayer is clearly an afterthought.
Conversely, if the game was designed to be a single player experience with multiplayer thrown in for laughs, but it was only "fun with friends" *cough* Serious Sam *cough*, then it'd count negatively against the quality of the game.
I still think the marines in AVP was the best representation

I'm maxed out as the medic, and with the suppression perk, and expand radius of the field you keep your squad healed and keep the heavy xeno's slowed so they can't touch anyone.
I'm glad to hear this did good I like aliens and this was a fun idea and even for a small developer can be strong with any ip if they just do it right
And month later has less then 1k active players. Hunting grounds has 307 and avp 2010 had 73. Aliens are doing great under disney like sw is ahahahahahah

Yeah I got bored in Back 4 Blood Beta and too many people would drop out after one mission even though I’d be reviving them using “Mom”. Plus the gunplay wasn’t satisfying.
This is where I pitch Vermintide 2, where you not only can skillfully block and dodge enemy attacks, you can select a variety of characters and classes to suit a playstyle you might have. You also have weapons & traits to suit your preferences that you can select.
Lots of variety in missions, there's been free levels in DLC, they've added new classes recently as well.
It may look like a L4D clone till you start seeing the different tiers of enemies for what they are and that becomes more apparent on higher difficulties. Armored rats hitting way harder and having armor to deflect damage, giant chaos warriors who are far harder to kill and hit way harder. An array of specials, some can pin (you can also dodge them with skill), suppress you with flamethrowers or miniguns, power up allies with a banner, poison gas globes (that also kill their allies).
I don't like vermintide 2 because everyone is hi level and leave me behind
@@tumblingworm737 Leveling isn't too hard in V2, once you're at 30, that's really the most you need. You get all your skills and that'll help with survival.
The bots are even competent enough to help to at legend difficulty (for the most part).
As for leaving you behind, I hope you don't mean leaving you behind in the level, because that's simply bad teamwork and they shouldn't be doing that.
I play with a group of friends if anything so we communicate & make sure we don't run too far apart, but you will always see players doing that dumb stuff in these kinds of games. I saw that from randos in L4D2, they'd run off, get mad you don't revive them (even though they're like 5 minutes away) and then rage quit after saying some rude stuff
the Doc was my first class, in the end game it has great buffs from standing inside the doc station and if you upgrade the radius its really good for standing your ground as you get +20% damage buff and a mini stim every 10 seconds for 5 seconds, and no to mention the fact that all damage is lowered whilst in the docs circle. i enjoyed playing as the doc, it has its uses but definitely overshadowed by the technician and demo classes.

I'd be more excited if the new Aliens game we were getting was a digital re-release of Monolith's Aliens Versus Predator 2 from 2001.

A game similar to this ( horde shooter I guess) that I would love your take on is second extinction.
It has varied missions from holdout at certain places to finding certain things (one mission has you go to an abandoned military base and look for drop ships) to clearing out dens that spawn in the mutant dinosaurs. The map is huge and you can choose where to drop in on the map regardless of what objective you pick. The only real problem I had was there is no scaling for sp which can make it a slog trying to play solo.
It's not super amazing but it seems pretty fun even though it's still being developed.

Thing is if this game gets the love it deserves and the devs see how much people really like playing it they'll start updating it not just with patches but with newer updates adding in cosmetics,weapons,marines,aliens and maps you name it. It might just become a real good gem.

This would be 10x better if they switched to first person and had a class dedicated to surveillance/door welding and was the only class that could use the hand held motion tracker, rather than having the motion tracker on screen for all players. Would have been tense as hell IMO.

Most fans through there comments, say that alien vs predator 2 was one of the best if not the best alien franchise they expirienced.
Alien from Creative Assembly was also just AMAZING!!!
And all of this on a 2021 worthy grahpics engine with a good non repetive and long single player campaigne for the 3 races and a strong and balanced multiplayer.
But Warner wants to give us...yeah this fair shooting range :(

It would be awesome, AvP 2 is my favorite Aliens game of all time. But a genuine question, are the same people still around in Monolith Studios? I mean, it's a 2001 game we are talking about, there is no guarantee that we could get the same quality standard today, even if Monolith is involved.
@@jdredalert True but when i see the games they made the last years, which were the Shadow of War Lord of the Ring games, were pretty insane in quality.
But its true it could be that quit some people left the place, but who knows?

@Myrmadon I kind of agree. This game looks fun but it's 40$. It honestly looks like 30-20$ and at the very start we get told that we pretty much need a friend for best experience.
It clearly is much better then "Colonial Marines" but honestly it looks like a game that we should have received when "Colonial Marines" was released. It looks ok and fun but nothing amazing. Like I mentioned it is clearly much better then "Colonial Marines" but today it is just ok. It just looks like ok horde shooter in "Alien" style.
This game is probably comparable to Terminator: Resistance. It has low budget but good ideas and uses ideas from original source. These games are good examples that budget is not everything but it's hard to compete with other game releases.
Look, I was burned by Colonial Marines too. But the constant pessimism the fanbase perpetuates over the games and the inevitable tantrum they throw over any flaws in a new game ultimately hurts the future of any Aliens licensed game. Your screeching isn't going to bring about an Isolation sequel.

i respect your opinions in this review, as it's mostly on point... mostly. However if you actually go for all achievements in this game, and upgrade all the weapons you'll come to understand that much of what you said about thew game only applies to the first few difficulties. You crank this bitch up it's a very different beast and with really good build synergies you'll definitely come to appreciate all of the things this game offers way way more.

I played as the Medic class through the whole game with my buddies and early game the med station was better to top up health in quiet periods of a level, other than that you can upgrade it to be way way better with a larger radius and even effects in the radius like buffing teammates and against enemies to debuff them like Xenos taking more damage or slowing their movement. Which was great for harder difficulty levels or the horde mode. So it helped a bit more if you didn't have an engineer on your team for whatever reason.
