- Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a budget shooter that spends every dollar exactly where it needs to be spent. The result is one of the better Aliens games ever released, and a surprisingly worthwhile coop shooter to boot. Some technical and design issues aside - this is a very solid pick up, especially at the price point. I recommend it.

I love how Colonial Marines came out over 8 years ago and people are still worried every new Alien game will end up misleading people.
Bothers me on such a high level they give this game 100% rating even tho I'd rather have another AvP game
It's pretty impressive that in a fandom that's made mostly of coasting on past achievements and disappointing cash grab sequels, and has been since the 80's, Colonial Marines is still the deepest wound we've taken.

It was like Game of Thrones season 8, left the fanbase with PTSD so even if something good in the same universe came out they would immediately be wary of it.
I suspect that's why Alien Isolation didn't sell as well as it should of. Too many people were, understandably, sceptical and unwilling to pay full price for what could of been another let down. IGN's infamous review certainly didn't help either (sorry, I had to get that in there. Still one of the worst reviews I've read).
There is something to be said for small games that know what they are and just want to do what it does the best that it can. Not everything has to be revolutionary.

It's like the opposite of Back 4 Blood and dev's trying to do things differently, even though player base just wants basics done right. And not trying to sell season passes and other bullshit right out of the gate. If the game is good, eventually players will beg to pay for more content.

@@nickgarcia1292 Mostly the engine. Unreal, for games that package a lot like ours, can sometimes bloat requirements.
Our game has a ton of de-compression on the backload so the stronger systems are able to load things in quicker than a lower-end machine.
I'm not TOO savvy with the technical reasons behind everything but that's my two cents on that.
Can I just say that I really appreciate the "I recommend"/"I do not recommend" in the title of your reviews?

I really appreciate the details and how it goes along the style of the movies.
Specially Alpha and Beta, the fact that they made two unique synths to play as your offline teammates and how the marines wrote stuff on their armor like "Tinman" and crossed out "Artificial Person" with "Artificial Badass"
I hope this helps spur the gaming industry into the realization that we're so overdue for a modern well fleshed out AvP asymmetric multiplayer game. I still remember the AvP2 from the 2000s. Running around as a 25ft tall queen and slicing marines in half was amazing and such a power trip.
Its been 10 years, I'd love a sequel to avp 2011.
Can't wait to hear Austin Wintory's soundtrack for this game. From what I heard so far it's god damn amazing.

My only experience with that composer is his work in Assassin's Creed Syndicate, and i can assure the ost is by far the best thing in that game

@bingly bingler Amen , they dig in deep to the roots of the game and give detailed reviews about every aspect. He's someone I respect as a gamer and WorthABuy. I may not 100% agree all the time but most of the time I usually do. Either way, my brother and I need a descent coop game to play and this is gonna be it . So hopefully I get 20-30 hrs of fun gameplay out of it
I have a funny feeling that the huge difference in this and ACG's review has something to do with playing solo and with friends, these games only work with friends IMO and aren't worth it on your own

I have only played joining randoms. I am 19 hours in and still enjoying the hell out of it. Everyone who I have played with has been competent and I have had a blast.
Worth a buy hated it as well and he didn’t talk about how it was a indie studio and not a triple AAA studio
So, its basically like Terminator: Resistance. Low budget and faithful to the source material, without trying to invent a wheel, but somehow superior to anything that all those AAA studios have been pumping out.
And with reasonable price tag as well. No 100 dollar Super Mega Premium Editions, that you need to buy to get a full game.
Terminator Future Shock was my favorite. Back when Bethesda wasn't huge.

This looks like a good addition to my other similar games, such as deep rock and vermintide

I was hoping we'd all just collectively forget the terrible Prometheus movies happened, but I guess the devs wanted to vary up the level design a bit.

@@codyreece7080 I actually have more hype for Darktide, B4B's bots and progression system need some work and they're definitely asking for way too much upfront, if it's a day 1 PC game pass though that'd be a good price lol. Far as Fireteam, me and my friends are gonna grab it once it's discounted in a few months, looks like they still need to update it and work out some kinks.
After Predator game, i had very low expectation for this game, and didnt think Skill up would recommend it. nice!

Tbh this game gets really boring and repetitive after like 30 minutes , its the same thing over and over follow a marker then open a door or some machine and defend a area from 1000 aliens without a break or creative thing to do in the middle, just go room to room and shoot 100 aliens who run towards you and all the area looks same and generic too me and i think there is no checkpoint or save so you have to avoid dying and complete full chapter when playing , i also played alien colonial marines that game was actually challenging and better than this repetitive trash ( the gameplay and gunplay is good but its the same loop over and over) IMO. IDK why everybody is hyped and giving high score to this game.
It does get repetitive but sadly every game can get repetitive these days even single player games
Such a good review. This is a gold standard for reviewing a game. Congrats Skill Up, it only shows how independent you are. Cold Iron is a small developer and they deserve a shot. I’ll definitely going to buy.

I'm always glad to see any game based on the Alien IP doing good because it gives me hope that a sequel to Isolation is still possible, even if done by a different studio.
There was a sequel that was released on mobile/iPhone.
@@GazB85 That's true, but it was a big letdown. They teased it too much and it was only a Five Nights at Freddie's knock-off with some strategy added to it. At least it showed that Amanda's story could continue, but an actual first-person triple A sequel with an even better AI than the original is what most fans would want.

I've been slack with the Alien movies since horror isn't really my thing and I know that some of them can be a bit intense.

Finally got this.. and I'm loving it. It's refreshing in how "unambitious" it really is. Tons of aliens - check. Cool environments - check. My favorite co-op game in a long long time. It actually brings me back to the 90s beat em ups in the arcades in a way. A really great time.
I love these kind of tighter, focused games. Yes. More of these, please developers. I'm looking forward to playing this and the next things Cold Iron make.
Yes! Nowadays everything needs to be a massive production, or it's indie. We need more AA games because this is what will really push _gaming_ forward, not just graphics and technology. Studios with enough talent to make close-to-AAA quality with a properly limited scope-they're free to create cutting-edge games while also taking risks and following their hearts where it matters. I remember playing Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and really feeling the power of this.
This feels like a GamePass game in 1-2 months

Cool story....GamePass is trash for welfare gamers and a cancer for gaming....People not actually purchasing games is going to kill gaming period.......Thankfully other console companies are actually making people pay for things instead of pushing a service while they slowly slip out of consoles and into a service.

Such a refreshing review. To hear that a team knew what they wanted to make and they achieved that is wonderful.
In some ways this game feels like it's from a different time, where you could just put out a simple, effective multiplayer title without being f2p, crazy microtransactions, or ambitions to takeover our lives as a live service.
I am intrigued but I'd want to play with friends, and convincing my friends to buy a game to play multiplayer is hard, when there are so many f2p games or gamepass titles for us to play. It's a shame.

I will wait for them to fix those disconnects. I have a friend who I'm always playing with that disconnects easily. Having to constantly restart a level is a deal breaker.

received early and played solo as the doc class (prioritising healing for solo play) and it was... tough even on normal difficulty. Happy with the game though

Game devs who design co-op shooters like this REALLY need to have Bundle packs at a discounted price AT LAUNCH. It's just a must, so one friend can just buy it all at a fair price and give it to his buddies. If you're not going to make the single player experience fun at all, then you need to change your pricing model to support Co-op.
Got my copy early and I'm really enjoying playing this game, there are some niggles that need polishing but so far it's been great. Nice review 👍

Outsource their dirty work to influencers which get high when they receive free merch.

Interesting to hear your take on the level design, ACG said it's pretty much the wosrt thing about it and kills any desire he has to replay it due to it being so uninspired and boring.

I will buy this game JUST to hear that pulse rifle fire over and over again. Literally the most satisfying gunfire sound ever.
I can imagine the the production being mess under the whole Disney acquisition and such. Had a bit of a hunch of Fireteam originally meant to being some sort of a larger game, later being told by the Mouse to gather finished parts into a L4D clone, but it looks surprising solid regardless.
I just love the honest commentary here and your back to basics approach to the review :) Your completely right, if the game works in the basic sense then there's no need to concentrate on flare. I think I'm going to be getting this to feature it as a series on my channel :)

I love your new format of "I recommend" or "I don't recommend" for game reviews.
It feels much more "real" in that you acknowledge entertainment bias and substitute a review score with a simple "I'd tell my friends it's worth playing" or "I wouldn't tell my friends about it" metric.

I played this game with my friend a while back. I remember it being kinda jenky and unpolished. You could definitely see the areas where they had to cut corners due to budgetary constraints and I remember thinking "man I wish they had done that instead" or "if that had done this it would have been awesome". And dying right at the end of a mission and having to start over was immensely frustrating.
That said, the game was what a game should be: FUN. Despite all its problems, the underlying gameplay loop was a lot of fun and made me want to keep playing or jump back in.
I toyed around with classes but always came back to the heavy gunner, my friend almost always rocked the technician. His sentry turrets saved out butts many times while my smart gun racked up the alien body count.
That gun sound, I’m fucking in man. 👍
Wow even as an aliens Fan I was going to pass but after watching this I’ll go ahead and pickup the deluxe.
From what I can see the only thing the deluxe edition adds are a bunch of skins. Is that really worth paying for in a game that's all about shooting waves of bugs?

A 2080TI having issues running Medium in 1080p is a problem considering the vast majority of gamers have cards well below this.
As much as I love the Aliens franchise, not having a proper single player mode is a pass for me.

To the point that you make me wish for more games to come out (even if I don't care about playing them myself) just so that I can enjoy more of your videos. Specially games that you like, since you sparkle so much joy when you talk about them. I've followed you since your Nier Automata review 4 years ago or something like that, no need to mention I agreed with every single second of that review. Yep. I was uncertain after seeing the general reception being mild, but saw "I recommend" and immediately thought "Alright, so I'll enjoy it."
If you enjoy Left 4 Dead, or World War Z, then you'll definitely like this game. It's not a game that tries to reinvent the wheel, but what it does, it does very well, which is It's gunplay and Alien killing.
This feels like a so much better review than IGN gave. I feel like I'm having a friend explain this game to me and why they enjoy it.
The IGN review sucked ass. Didn't even mention half the stuff Skill-Up did. Thank God we have actual competent reviewers on TH-cam.

Wow, ACG roasted this game. Interesting.
Looking at the gameplay videos I'm more inclined to agree with ACG on this one. Watching gameplay without commentary shows the gunplay to have little weight or impact, and there is no question the set design is super uninspired and repetitive.
@@oplawlz Sure sure.....show worst level locations and call it a day huh? Somehow skill up showed a lot more interesting locations. Man ACG is beyound hypocrite and over hes supid glasses cant see much further

Very good to hear you recommend this game. Been itching for survival games since the Back for Blood beta. This should be a good time sink untill it releases
