  • Mizuno MP20 HMB Irons In Depth Review where we look at just how the all new hollow MP20 line can help with your blending choice, do you go full HMB or use it for the harder to hit longer irons. With strategic tungsten weight placements in the 7 irons upwards, this helps to increase launch, peak heights and descent angles.

    I like how at the beginning of the video you did not seem very excited, but once you hit the HMB, I’ve never heard you say “gorgeous” so many times in a video. I enjoy your videos.

    This is a 1 take..... thank you for being honest. Because trully even pga players dont always strike perfectly. It is an honest review, love it. It actually shows the forgiving level when we dont hit it perfectly.

    I just bought these 4-PW (7 Irons), Flex: Regular Flex, Shaft: Nippon NS Pro Modus 105. Only played 3 rounds with them 18 handicap. Hit 9 out of 12 par 3's with them. Absolutely love them. They look great and feel great. Coming from Mizuno Comp EZ irons they still have that beautiful Mizuno forged feel

    Excellent video and thank you for the honesty regarding fitting. It can be very difficult to fit an entire set off of only one iron. There is so much variability from player to player and iron to iron. Just because you’re 2 degrees upright on your 6 iron that doesn’t mean that holds true for all the other irons (save for maybe one LENGTH irons). You are doing your part though and that is appreciated 🙏

    Love the potential help, with the similar looks between the MB and the HMB. Maybe a P-6 in the MB and a 4 and 5 in the HMB.
    Also, curious to here some comments on the shaft offerings. I am personally interested on the S tapers.

      Jesse please $ Taper 😊 I'm still calling it Dollar Taper even though Mizuno don't like it 😊 they are a great shaft with a firm feel but a slightly softer tip that in my view at least aids the super soft feel. Obviously get fitted but for someone like me that isn't shaft sensitive having this new offering is something to show off 😊👍

      Meant to update this - at the end of September 2019, there was a Mizuno fitting day at a local club and so I was able to test all the irons, with the shaft I like, including 4 irons in all sets. HMB was fantastic and good decent angles, so in the end went for MP20 Blades PW to 7 iron and HMBs 6 to 4 iron. The Mizuno guys were brilliant and patient and am really happy with thee cubs. Cannot wait to get out again in decent conditions as stuck to my bodged up garden net for now!

    • @chriswinton
      @chriswinton 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @William Crothers you are probably good enough to work your irons. Nothing beats the Mizuno for the soft feel but I do love the distance of the longer epics...oh well

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Chris, if you didn't want to give up too much distance you could always strengthen the lofts, however without knowing your delivery dynamics and above all peak height spin and speed then be careful that you don't make the longer irons non functional in descent angle. So many in the pursuit of distance forget that unless an increase in speed and therefore peak height is achieved, reducing loft just makes the ball uncontrollable into greens.
      If you go for a fitting, try and go for one that uses strike based launch monitor tech and with someone that coaches using it as well as custom fits. Equipment purchases are getting so so expensive that people really need to be selective about where they go to get custom fitted.
      Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍

    I’d like to ask the difference between range balls and real balls. I have a portable launch monitor I take to the range. But at the range I use their range balls. What will the difference in numbers such as distance, spin, and efficiency be? Would you please advise?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David, well I guess it all depends on which kind your local range use as there are a few varieties that limit flight and some that don't. Our range balls are a limited flight option by around 10 to 15% of normal. Yet this is not directly correlative as loft and more to the point the reduction of it starts to show the distance change. Launching lower and with greater spin it has the reverse of effect maximising distance. Using wedges see little to no difference in carry distances, just with a slightly lower trajectory, longer irons and woods see the largest reduction.
      Hope that answers your question in full, if not let me know and I'll happily explain in more detail. 👍

    • @davidsegal2236
      @davidsegal2236 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      AskGolfNut thank you so much for the reply. I understand that many range balls are flight restricted. My question is how it translates to my portable launch monitor. Do flight restricted balls launch lower with more spin to limit the distance? Or does it launch and spin accurately but use another method to limit the flight. If that is the case then I should be getting accurate numbers from my launch monitor, right? And how do you know if the range balls are flight restricted. The point is how much should I trust the numbers on my portable launch monitor at the driving range using their balls? Thanks again and keep up the great content!

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Flight restricted balls launch lower with greater spin than normal balls. You should be able to detect flight restricted balls visually and definitely with a launch monitor 👍

    • @davidsegal2236
      @davidsegal2236 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      AskGolfNut thanks. I am assuming then the numbers from non-flight restricted numbers will produce accurate numbers. Correct?

    Question: I’m currently gaming JPX900 HM’s but feel ready to graduate to something more ‘svelte’ (I’m usually about 84/85mph and 1.4 smash with a 7 iron). In your opinion, would these be a good next step or a step too far..?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Darren, well from experience as long as your strike pattern is ok (the smash factor assuming its generated from a trackman system is measured differently to Quad so can only assume again from that) then the transition to HMB would be a potentially good idea to allow you to grow as a golfer. The HMB will offer much more in the way of feel and without a dramatic distance drop. 1 less degree in loft although that could be bent to match, wouldn't affect the smash too much but mainly I would keep an eye on strike. This would dictate for me the direction in which to go. The 900 HMs were a great iron and still holds its own in the category however if you are aspiring to become a better player and find yourself outgrowing them then the HMB's would be a fine choice 👍
      Thanks for the comment and for watching.

      AskGolfNut really appreciate the detailed answer. I’ve tested the Titleist T200’s and liked those (hit them well too), just need to arrange a test with the HMB’s, maybe even try to back-2-back-2-back with the Titleist and current gamers. I’m not overly worried about distance, 7 iron carry is low/mid 160’s so a slight drop off in exchange for more consistency front to back (no fliers) is acceptable. Plus they look sexy af!! Thanks again, fella, keep up the good work! 👍🏻

    As well as the HMB performed from PW to 4 iron, especially forgiving all of them, why blend?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mainly due to peoples requirements for either aesthetics and feel. The HMB offers incredible performance benefits from an MP iron but doesn't offer the absolute looks and feel that the other models give.... Take that out of the equation and roll on full HMB's... 😊

    • @jporter504
      @jporter504 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AskGolfNut Enjoy your videos and their content. I have watched a number of YT golfing vlogs and without trying to sound mean in any way, I've noticed that the British vloggers place a lot of emphasis on aesthetics. I don't get that as much from the American vloggers. Looks are not unimportant to them but there seems to be more emphasis placed on performance. Might explain why chunky irons have always sold well in the States.

    • @canyonaro
      @canyonaro 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      jporter504 From the Brits I always notice: 1. Obsession with a thin top line (25 years as a single-digit player & I never knew this was such a big deal to certain people!), and 2. Gratuitous user of the word "chunky" to describe anything that isn't the size of a 1980s McGregor.
      Conventional wisdom is that Americans are superficial but it seems the Brits are far more concerned with appearances than we are. We just want something that will SMASH it! 😂

      AskGolfNut This is what I did. Picked them up yesterday and they are GORGEOUS. FYI since they seem to keep leaving this out - the 9-iron & wedge are 1025E carbon steel same as the blades. Not chromoly. They're buttery soft but more forgiving. I hit the whole set starting at the wedge and your can feel/hear a slight difference when you go from 9 to 8. The 8 is a little firmer and a little more pop, but it's not dramatic. The 8 is the oddball in the set because it's the hotter material but no tungsten weights so easier to work/less forgiving. 7 and up have the dual internal weights & they're so stable it made me laugh. I literally couldn't get them more than two degrees offline even when I tried, except when I intentionally hit a pull-hook. They just want to go straight.

      AskGolfNut thank you for the reply that is very helpful to give me a reference point. Looking at a 2 iron for a “fairway finder” club. I have DG x stiff in my ping blueprints and the only shaft I have been able to find is the stock NModus stiff 120 for the 2 iron Mizuno HMB. Wasn’t sure if that was what you were hitting in video. Thanks for the reply and video :)

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Modus 120 Stiff is quite a bit different in bend profile to the DG X shaft. Especially with the added length of the 2i you'll need a shaft that keeps its stability. Maybe thinking about something in the C Taper range would work much better than the Modus. Modus 120 tx could be a suitable option but the tx isn't something that is available within the Mizuno fitting cart. You need go go somewhere were they can measure your dynamic delivery with the different shaft options while also measuring strike. If you were closer I'd say to book an appointment but that might be a bit of a trek 😊

      @@AskGolfNut Great feedback, thank you! I did the "golf fitting" on kbs site and it recommended the C Taper S i believe. I did find a retailer online that offered the KBS/KBS Tour, DG AMT, DG, and NM 120 all in x stiff. I might try my luck with one of those. I hit the ball high and definitely could benefit from a shaft that is stiffer and stiffer in the tip area. I enjoy hitting my 3 iron off the tee but want something with a little more distance and that 16 degree 2 iron i think will work out perfect! Actually hit the titleist 1 iron - 510 and hit it well but really want that mizuno club! I've always wanted to visit across the pond, if i am ever in your area i ll work a fitting in....there is always time for some golf/fitting on a vacation! :) Thank you for all of the feedback, has really been a lot of help to narrow down the options.

    Hi, has anyone seen or does anyone think that a mid or even high handicapper could use these or are these exclusively a single figure handicap club? Interested in what the market for these actually is, how would these compare to the JPX 919 Forged - seen these are the same lofts?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Christopher I think you have a valid question there and do you know what I may even do a video on the back of this question. To answer in the short term I can say that it all depends on your strike abilities. If you hit reasonably close to the effective middle of the club you could potentially play any iron. I've seen many a high handicapped player that has poor face to path delivery but good strike that could play blades. There are or really shouldn't be any guided to iron choices based on handicap number. It's much mode player specific than that. As always test for yourself with a decent fitter that uses tech like GCQuad that can track your strike.
