    I’ve been a Mizuno iron fan for years (exclusively) and that has a lot to do with their quality/honesty of course but probably just as important, Chris Voshall himself. Is there another company that gives you the availability/access and honesty that Mizuno does? They truly want to engineer product that helps you play better golf, I love it! Ian and Matt are as good as it gets and it is really cool to see Chris/Mizuno spend the time.....so valuable as a consumer.

    I love the talk about camber and turf interaction. I am a high handicap player (even "high" is probably generous) and I hit blades better than I hit the big chunky soled irons, solely because of how they interact with the turf. It's also one of the reasons I struggle with hybrids vs. long irons, in my opinion.

      I thought It was just me lol went from the hot metals straight to the mp20 blades and hit them so much better due to the same. I also think the heavy weight of game improvement irons have some to do with it as well

    I was given a set of T-Zoid Pro's in the late 90's. At the time, they were the bee's knees. They were the ticket. Even though they are called muscle backs, they are blades with two shallow divots on either side of the centre block. The thing that I like most about them is what Matt was describing. They give you immediate and accurate feedback as to where you contacted the ball. These clubs taught me how to hit the ball. I've tried game improvement irons and no matter which manufacture they were and how expensive they were, they all felt numb to me. In the last test session, I found my striking becoming more and more erratic with each swing. I found myself missing the vibration of the mishits. Until I can justify giving up my T-Zoids, I won't. I've had the PW and the 9i faces redone a couple of times (don't ask me how it's done or even if it's legal since a friend of mine does it) so I'm not missing any spin. Mizuno is onto something with the mass higher up on the back to resist low and high shots. I don't know of any other manufacturer that does that. They're all so focused on getting the ball in the air that I think they've sacrificed quality shots on the altar of marketing. As always, it's great to see Chris talk golf, even when the guys brought up Titleist.

    Big Thanks to all three of you! Great review, enriched by the technical comments from Chris. You set the gold standard for internet club reviews. Just 2 things: As demonstrated by Matty, getting good distance from blades is not a problem at all. And the bevelled edges for better turf interaction is an old hat for Mizuno, they are already present on my JPX 850 Forged (first Mizuno's I ever owned). Oh and yes, these will be my next irons. I kinda pre-decided that already but now I know for sure. Thank you Mizuno and TXG!

    Matt is young enough fast enough and will become even more consistent (if it’s possible) moving to blades. I’ve had 4 sets of blades and a number of cavity backs over 35 years and never hit it better or more consistently than with a blade, they force you to swing better. Just picked up a set of MP20 HMB 5-P and they are great so far.

    These products are absolutely gorgeous. I recall Matty having a lot of success with the Miura blade prior to the lefty option being discontinued. Perhaps, blades will be going in the bag.
    Question/Test Suggestion - It seems like the level of forgiveness in a blade has dramatically improved through subtle tweaks. Do you agree? Also, development of a test to assess the true level of forgiveness between a blade and cavity would be interesting. E.g. Machine controlled mishits across 9 locations (high toe, high middle, high heel, toe, middle, heel, low toe, low middle, and low heel).

Small head, thin top line and thin sole. I the Mizunos clubs is looking chunky. Fat sole and thick top line compared to the FG-49 Tour Blades. I've got the MP4 set and since moving near coastal courses recently I'm finding the thin knife edge of the blade is almost impossible to hit consistently due to wet Sandy turf...any dig will kill your game. These real blades have very slim soles so be mindful of that risk while you lust. If you dig or swing steep at all, you should skip these!

    How would the hmb 6 and 5 fit together with my MP 25 set?

    • @jacobmccain8082
      @jacobmccain8082 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’d probably need to get the HMB delofted a degree or 2. HMB 6 is 28. Your 7 would be 34. Maybe one from HMB and one added to MP25?

      Drat and double Damn, MrsBandit has announced that I'm taking her to our favourite Basque Bistro for an early dinner. Unfortunately, she didn't take too kindly to me putting my foot down and saying "No Way" and that I would be otherwise engaged watching a TXG vid. Hopefully, the food in our local A&E dept is good and the wifi is working!

    It would have been nice If the SEL (LEFTY) set had an option for an HMB 5i! I think it would have greatly broadened the appeal of the set.
    That will likely be the reason I don't buy it! It's too bad, really! I love Mizuno products and would really like to support their efforts to better support lefties but I just don't think this is a fit for me!

    The arguments against blades, such as, that “better players than me don’t play blades” or “why make the game harder than it is?” are nonsense. Anyone who can carry a 43* blade 9 iron over 143 yards should be playing blades. If your swing is that good, cavity backs, gi irons, etc ... are doing absolutely nothing to help you, it’s all in your head.

    • @e99783
      @e99783 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When your swing is good enough to carry far everything else takes care of itself. Farther carry = better swing. There is a reason the top players in the world are mostly the longest hitters. I hit the ball just a little short of Matt and play the tm p730s xstiff dg tour issue shafts. It’s the consumer version of what DJ uses. Once I learned the correct golf swing I almost never again missed the center, could not care less about moi or “size of sweet spot” . launch angles are primarily dictated by loft, of which blades are pointed more towards the sky meaning higher launch. It’s the Indian, not the arrow.
