    I ordered a combo set 3-6i HMB, 7-pw MBs... Went for 1 degree weaker loft on the HMBs and 1 degree stronger loft on the MBs... I suspect I'll keep these clubs for the next decade or so 🙌

      Similar for me Peter I’ve gone 4-7 hmb and 8-pw mp20
      The mp20 I’ve adjusted 2 degree strong to match the 4 degree gaps on the hmbs
      Can’t wait to get them next week

    Good review as ever and the perfect example of the consistency that Mizuno was looking for with this range of irons. Blend without fear of gaps. HMB in 4/5 then MB from there on in

    Michael I would love to see the MMC MP-18 vs MP-20. Is there any compelling reason to upgrade?

    Low handicap and scratch golfers who play a lot and remain consistent with their ball striking may opt for the the MB and MMC versions of the MP-20 irons. I am not in that category so they are not for me but I really do like the look of a blade iron and therefore I would consider the Mizuno MP-20 HMB, Ping I500, Taylermade P790 and similar clubs. As for blending iron sets, when the gaping between the models don't allow for a straight blend, I have seen players blend by carrying the same iron in both models (for example a six iron in both where the more forgiving longer hitting six iron replaces what would be the 5 iron in the less forgiving model).

    Every time I see numbers for the MMC & HMB it just emphasises that the HMB renders the MMC redundant: goes slightly longer, launches higher, descends slightly steeper and spin rate is virtually identical. I mean who would have thought that 2 quality made irons with the same lofts would have very similar performance.

      Hmb is a hollow body which has different feel and sound to mmc, Hmb offset is more and topline is thicker...numbers are 1 part of the equation but not everything

    I got to hit the HMB 7 iron today. My current 7 iron Ping eye 2 (1988, 36deg loft) carries 145-150, the HMB (32deg loft) was carrying 166-173. That's 6-12 yards farther than current 6 iron at the same 32deg of loft.

    You've got the best shots of these Michael and you always do a great job of showing us what they look like at address. I'd be looking at MP 6-PW. Torn between MMC and HMB for the 4 & 5 iron. Maybe HMB on the 4 iron and MMC on the 5 iron. MB looks really nice. Can't wait to test em once they hit the market.

    strange since the loft differences should lead to bigger differences? That gives a lot of credit to the MB-model.

    Hit both the MP20 and HMB twice now. The MB20 feels much better to me. The HMB sounds slappy to me. The MP20 feels so pure.

    One note to all viewers, all iron heads from all the different manufacturers are finished in China. Japan has outlawed the use of the plating chemicals for over 10 years. The forging of the head is the only process done in Japan. Until they move the plating process to another country, the price of clubheads will go up in price due to trade tariffs. The new price increase is all trade taxes.

    • @e99783
      @e99783 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      thomas ross most companies involved with manufacturing in China are already either moving production to other countries or opening facilities in other countries with a transition away from China being planned. This is a good thing. Why give our money to a dictatorship government that hates us? Look at what mainland China is doing to Hong Kong right now. Don’t financially support this.

    • @thomasross1285

      @@e99783 My point was to inform that the heads are not completely made in Japan. If some people in hedge funds would invest in a state art facility in Mexico, they could save on cost & shipping.

    I am disappointed by the shape, I have a set of mp-18's. The blades have the center of the cg slightly towards heel. I thought that they might go back to MP-4 design with the mass behind the center of the face like Apex & Titleist. Is the toe relief just a new fad in iron design? MY Mp-32s felt solid on center strikes, no vibration at all. The HMB is the same as P-790, without speedfoam & slotted lower face. The P-790 also has the cone face construction. Cannot find maximum loft adjustments on HMB.

    • @asdfkhieee
      @asdfkhieee 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, the p790s were a huge hit, so why wouldn't Mizuno throw their hat into the ring. I think the HMB looks better than the P790, but that's a personal thing I guess.

  • @sailingnoboundaries

    The results say that the MB at 34 degrees performs better than the MMC and the HMB with 2 degrees stronger lofts. More testing will be required.

    Good afternoon everyone from Perú.
    Thanks Michael for the excellent videos. I am in love with the blade style, and I have always liked the feel of the forged irons. Currently I have a Titleist AP-3 with which I am very happy..but a set of the MP20 HMB...Uff!!!
    I am hp.10-12 Michael...do you think I would make any different?...Here in Perú it's impossible to make a fitting...

    • @MichaelNewtonGolf
      @MichaelNewtonGolf  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd say slightly more forgiving with the HMB and probably more spin as slightly more loft than AP3. Depends if that suits your game or requirements.

    • @brandoncjgrimes
      @brandoncjgrimes 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      im sure that depends on the ball striker. i'm a 10 and think on my best days... could probably do PW, 9i in the MB ... maybe 8.... MMC in 7-5 , 4iron in HMB. but also i could easily just say.... MMC PW - 5.... HMB in 4iron

    • @asdfkhieee
      @asdfkhieee 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      0-9 could play anything, but MB and MMC would probably be what they choose. 10-18 some of them may be excellent ball strikers and could play the MB, but most would go towards the MMC/HMB. 19-36 chances they need all the help they can get so the HMB would probably suit them best. Now someone may be a 25 handicap due to a really shitty short and long game yet still be an excellent iron player who can game the MB/MMC. It all comes down to the individual player. Go get fit and see what fits best.

    • @robertfad1611
      @robertfad1611 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I am a 5 handicap and just tested the entire line. I decided on the MMC PW-5i and the HMB in the 3 and 4 irons. The MMCs for me just felt wonderful with a tad more forgiveness than the blades and I felt as though I could shape my shots just as easily. Oh and the MMCs carry a tad further b/c of the stronger lofts without losing spin. From all of the reviews I am seeing the MMCs are really getting overlooked b/c I think people just fall in love with the looks of a blade. Unless you hit tin the middle of the face 98% of the time you should consider the MMCs if you are a single digit handicap.

      Robert Fad Im a 2.4 handicap, mostly due to a strong short game especially putting. I’m a +5.4 putter according to my Arccos.
      My iron contact (and woods) can definitely need help. Def. not hitting the sweet spot on my irons consistently enough to consider mb blades. I’m on the fence about MP 20 MMC, JPX 919 Forged or Ping i210’s. Researching now but will test all 3 come spring at 2ndSwing golf.

    I've had 3 different sessions hitting the new MP20 MB. As a blade player this pure blade didn't feel as good as the Apex Pro, or P730, or Wilson. They have that firmer grain flow HD feel of the Mp18 which wasn't as soft as the legacy MP irons such as the MP69 or MP5. Personally, I don't care for the MP20's at all, and the Apex muscle backs stay in the bag.
