    What’s the first thing you think of when you hear the word Mizuno? Irons.
    The Japanese company has a reputation of being one of the best brands in golf when it comes to the design and craftsmanship of their irons.
    This year, Mizuno has introduced 3 models of irons in their MP-20 range to replace the previous MP-18, with an added focus on feel thanks to a layer of copper added into the head of each iron.

    Great video!!! The only thing I believe is really important to note is the difference in lofts. MB - 38. MMC - 36. HMB - 36. You had mentioned the MB wasn’t going as far, and that the others were going the distance you wanted. That’s because the lofts are different! If we forget iron labels and think of lofts, the shots went the distances they were intended to! :) Best in-depth video I’ve seen of these. Congrats!

    Great review! I LOVE Mizunos and am looking to put these in the bag soon. Been hard to find them to test with COVID going on…You kept calling the HMB the Hybrid Muscle Back…From Mizuno’s website it seems HMB stands for Hotal Metal Blade…not sure if you were just describing them as hybrids and it just came out at HMB (Hybrid Muscle Back). But, doesn’t matter…they are all beautiful clubs! I WANT THEM!! My previous Mizunos were a combo set of MP59s and 69s…favorite set of clubs ever! Then, like a dummy, I chased the more jacked up lofted irons for “more distance” and haven’t felt that butter feel since…Now I’m over 50 and couldn’t care less about all that…hit an extra club…that’s why you carry 14 of them!!

    What a terrific review. Beautiful smooth swing, unbiased and comprehensive. Refreshing to see a review where you're not chastising an 8 iron for not carrying 185. Great work. Just got a blended set of these and I'm very excited for them.

    I’m currently in the process of blending the MB with the HMB. Initial testing in U.K. lockdown (net & PRGR at home) suggested 6&7i similar distances with MB bent to the same loft (7i @ 32*) jury still out in the impact of the bounce off turf....great review.

    I'm a new golfer (1 1/2 years). I'm rather obsessed and I've been working on my swing (3000 balls at the range so far). I bought the TM M4 irons, gamed them 5 times, moved to PXG and now I'm using blades. Everyone told me blades are impossible to hit. I tried them and was instantly amazed! Here's what my experience (limited as it is): All irons have a sweet spot, all irons have the same sized sweet spot. 1/4" or 5 mm off the sweet spot in any direction will penalize you or the ball flight. Hitting a garden shovel would have a sweet spot. The bigger the tool, the more opportunities you'd have to hit it away from the sweet spot.
    "Game improvement irons" are mislabeled, they should be called "Distance improvement irons"! A true lofted blade 7 iron will be near 35* a Distance improvement iron is 27* (that's really a 5 iron), giving the illusion that you're better or the tech is so advanced. More importantly is the dispersion numbers. My 7 blade goes 165 yards +/- 4 yards. The M4 7 iron goes 190 yards +/- 9 yards. Imagine a par 3 or scoring shot from the fairway. I KNOW my blade with get me on the green and stopped and leave me close enough to putt. The Distance club will leave me a) right on the pin, b) a short chip shot onto the green from the fairway, bunker etc. or, c) flying over the green from an unexpected smash into the trees, water, sand or tee box of the next hole! With distance dispersion numbers like that... high/mid handicappers will remain so!
    My advice (it's worth what you've paid for it): buy blades (used blades are cheap), learn how to hit the sweet spot, label your club or use a chart for your distances. I've done a chart with each club for full smash, 9 to 3, 8 to 4, chip shot etc. Video your swing and find your weaknesses. Get a coach if needed and think about meaningful practice (no robotic ball smashing). Learn to chip like a pro, putt until you're sick of it! I went from 105 strokes per round 1 1/2 yrs ago to my last round at 75. Eliminating 3 putts is the biggest part of it. I hit a max of 15 driver shots per range session and often less than 10. Chipping and pitching will gain you more than picking up 20 yards on your drive yet everyone rushes off to buy this year's driver for the promise of distance. Good luck ladies and gentlemen. Have fun, more pars to you all

    Great review 👍🏽 stay with my MP18 MB irons but wanted to order the 2 iron MP20 HMB ...sadly very limited graphite shaft options 😒 Switched from steel to Project X LZ tour graphite shafts in my MP18 irons because graphite is better for my joints and thought that the MP20 HMB 2 iron could still be delivered with a project X graphite shaft but only recoil. For me unbelievable that a company that promotes custom fitting has so limited graphite shaft options....

    Great review Sophie! I was custom fit for MP-58’s back in 2010 and gamed them for nearly 7 years ! As you might now they’re the predecessor of the MP-59 and the MMC ! In fact the MP-58’s are remarkably similar looking to the MP-20 MMC, but the 58’s don’t have Tungsten at all..Only Titanium in the cavity similar to the MP20 MMC!
    I’m a 2.4 handicap mostly due to a very strong short game, especially putting (I’m a +5.4 putter according to my Arccos). So my ball striking isn’t consistent enough for the MB blade, but it should be good enough for the MMC.
    by the way, I was custom fit for JPX 900 Forged in early 2017, loved the forgiveness,but wasn’t a fan of the BORON which made them feel too clicky and non-forged. Ive since sold those on eBay and come springtime I’ll be going for a custom fit at 2ndSwing golf near Philadelphia about 2 hr drive from me in Staten Island NY
    Here are my choices:
    Ping i210
    Mizuno MP-20 MMC
    Mizuno JPX 919 Forged (maybe, just as an extra option)
    Ive seen and read great reviews on the i210 also, so it will be fun comparing these. also, I’ll be going with GRaphite shafts for the 1st time ever, mostly due to my recent rotator cuff surgery i had on 18 Dec 2019. Also had 2 prior rotator cuff surgeries so less shock on my shoulders and arms the better !
    Best of Luck to you
    Thanks,
    Stephen

  • @marcvanderbilt9324
    @marcvanderbilt9324 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Blades require absolute acceptance of your limits. For me that is 130 yards with a 7. But I can’t help myself aiming for 160 with a 7 (which works if I hit it to perfection). That is why I am forced to play forgiving clubs. No self-control and it doesn’t make me happy. I practise with blades though. Love it. Can advice everybody to do the same, pick up a set of second hand blades for a couple of hundred quids.

  • @brianyoung3
    @brianyoung3 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice review. I like how you showed us inside and outside performance. I wish you told us the outside yardages. To be fair to the blades, they fly less far, so if they're flying 7-8 yards less, why set them up for failure outside by playing them to a yardage that you just can;t make? If you can't make the yardage and you know it, don't you swing a little too hard which is going to affect the accuracy?

    • @sophiewalker2542
      @sophiewalker2542 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Young Hi Brian, when we are reviewing products we don’t get every single iron. We also have to play from where the tee’s are positioned in order not to disturb other players on the course. This is why some par 3 yardages don’t suit me. Thanks for the watch :)

    This is the difference between your typical range pro you tuber and an actual tour pro. Range pro moron "blades scare me, i could butter my toast with it blah blah blah" - Sophie the real pro "these are not about length, they are all about distance control and accuracy, if you catch one of the bottom groves you'll lose some yards". Nice work Sophie, more please!

    You can’t hit a blade with a shallow sweeping scoopy swing that many YT coaches seem to advocate these days. The blade’s sweet spot is not at the bottom of the face but in the middle. So your hands must lead the club head and with a downward angle of attack at impact.

    Looking at the MB numbers and says “I didn’t think they would go as far....” yeah because they are weaker lofted by 2 degrees. That’s not something helpful to say when you’re talking about players not caring their mate hits a 7iron lofted like a 5 and your hitting a true loft

    i don't understand the outcome of this review, first the different irons are tested inside, then there tested outside. When they was tested inside, Sophie tells us that the blade, are not made to go long, but the same distance every time.
    Then on the course, she is hitting the ball from the same spot with the different irons, so the result has to be that the blades are short. The same goes for the HMB, but on the long side.
    So the conclusions seams wrong, because as Sophie says in the simulator, when your playing partner is using a 8 iron MMC, then you would be using a 7 iron in a blade, which isn't considered outside when she's hitting the balls from the same spot. So it seams all wrong.
