  • It is warm enough now that I can set my automatic watering system back up for the quail. This makes my daily chores so much easier and ensures the birds always have a supply of fresh clean water.
    Below is the parts list for my system (affiliate links)
    The water cups I use - amzn.to/38nWmKh
    PVC Ts - amzn.to/3qtL7pR
    PVC end cap (make sure to select 1/2 inch) - amzn.to/2PHoIIZ
    Bulkhead to connect the hose to the bucket - amzn.to/2OEwEdK
    Threaded hose connecter to connect to bulkhead and PVC tube (need one for the bucket and one for each drinking tube) - amzn.to/38nf1Ge
    Hose barb T (I use one of these to feed from the bucket to the upright hose and one more to feed to each individual cage so 2 needed to feed to two cages) - amzn.to/38mVsOf
    Vinyl hose (make sure to select the ID 3/8 inch hose) - amzn.to/2PHoeCF
    Irrigation hose I use to make the hose connection at the top of the bucket - amzn.to/3qyQW5s
    Hose connector for the irrigation tube - amzn.to/3euGVnk
    Quick connect garden hose connectors - amzn.to/3cj05d8
    All of these products and more are available in my Amazon shop www.amazon.com/shop/slightlyr...

    Thank you. I definitely need to build these. I'm ready to quit using the small waterers.

      It is so much easier than small waterers for sure. And not too difficult to put together.

    Barrel flange for bucket,lol ; I forget terms all time now days. CHRIS , i had to get away from that tubing , Kept spliting all time, come home & water all leaked out. I switched to a industrial 3/8 in hose-no more leaks.

      Thanks for reminding me. :) I never have any problems with the hose splitting. But industrial hose is a great suggestion.

    You should try to collect rain water from your hutches roofs to keep it as drinking water. That would be cool.

    Thank you so much for these videos! I'm starting my falconry apprenticeship this fall and decided to raise quail as a means of feeding my future hawk. Very informative and helpful! God bless. :)

    I got mine reinstalled as well. I had some repairs after our deep freeze weather and so happy it's back up and running. Hand watering stinks.

      No kidding. It is so much easier with the automatic system. I did have to do some repairs to the rabbit system but the quail system made it through just fine.

    I came down to my quail and there was one that was alive but his head is laying on the ground and he was standing up and not moving
    It looks like he was picked on overnight or jumped up and hit his head.could that have caused it and do you think it will be okay

    • @Slightlyrednecked
      @Slightlyrednecked  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am so sorry for the slow response. it is hard to say for sure if he will recover or not. What you described isn't that uncommon. When the birds first come into the breeding season they can get a little aggressive and sometimes they do beat up one of the birds and can even kill them. Unfortunately there probably isn't a lot you can do for him at this point.

    Next time I tinker with my watering system I'll probably use some flexible tubing also. I have PVC all the way to the bucket & it's annoying that the whole assembly is rigid.

    • @Slightlyrednecked
      @Slightlyrednecked  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I considered using PVC but thought the same thing. The hose is so much easier.

  • @bobcole3852

    doesn't the bucket need to be a libit higher for gravity feed?

    • @Slightlyrednecked
      @Slightlyrednecked  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      as long as it is just a little higher than where the water cups are it works just fine.

    Hi chris i have a doe and ive been trying to breed her for the last past 3 weeks not everyday but still 3 times a week you think there is something wrong with my doe she was bred once thks and keep it up

    • @Slightlyrednecked
      @Slightlyrednecked  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There probably isn't anything wrong with her. Some does can be difficult to get to breed. Sounds like you are doing the right thing. I have had lots of reports from people saying that they put the doe in a pet carrier and drover her around the block a few times and then put her in the with the male and she lifted right away. You might give that a try and see if it works for you. If all else fails, you can try forced breeding but I try to avoid that if I can.

    • @Slightlyrednecked

      It is pretty similar to this except I use the water nipples amzn.to/2OC90OQ. They do require a different size hose as well so all those connectors are different sizes. I will see if I can do an updated video on that soon. Here is a link to the old video I have on it. But skip the silicone and get a bulkhead to attach the hose to the bucket. th-cam.com/video/4QTRyDN6RIA/w-d-xo.html

    Neat water system. We live in central Florida so freezing weather is next to obsolete but for the folks up north that's a great idea. I use a 5 gal bucket in my chicken coop with the cups around the bottom and yeh I'd say it last about 2 wks for 13 yard birds. We have been looking at buying property for a homestead in TN, north GA and Indiana. What state do you live in? What are land prices where you live? Our youngest graduates in 2 mos, we are kinda ready to get out of the rat race of fl, everyone is moving here thanks to all these socialist liberal buffoons running these blue states in the ground. I think they said 1500 people a month are moving to fl. We do have a jam up governor that's for sure but it's just so crowded down here

    • @Slightlyrednecked
      @Slightlyrednecked  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I live in Missouri. Land prices are pretty good around here but I couldn't tell you exactly how they compare to TN, GA, or IN. I hope you find the perfect land for you.
