Making A Gravity Fed Quail Waterer

  • After getting this hutch set up for the quail, I realized they needed a better watering system because they drink a ton! Or at least, it seamed that way with the little quart sized waterer I was using. We just finished the rabbitry waterer and I had some pvc pieces left over, so I decided to make this gravity fed quail waterer. Come see how it turned out!

Great concept, may i suggest a couple of possible improvements?
Don't glue. It is gravity fed, no pressure in system and you might want to take it apart for cleaning, especially end cap.
Get pipe to tubing fittings and switch to tubing between bucket and hutch system. I have used 1/2" Rainbird irrigation tubing. Perfect for that but i did need to use a heat gun to install fittings. You can use a hair dryer for that.
Big improvement is to add a submersible heater in the bucket, a small recirculation pump and return line (instead of end cap) back to bucket. Heater and pump plugged into a Thermocube to turn on automatically. Last winter i had 15" of snow on top of hutches and bucket but the quail still had water. If you have power at hutch i think you'll like this. Good luck with that. Kudos for gettin' it dun...

My flock is still very small! But, I got our new hutch in and I’ll be building that soon. Which means, I can hatch out some babies and expand! Woohoo!

Thank you 😊 My husband works 10 hour shifts, so when he’s home I prefer spending my time with him and our kids vs working on projects (though sometimes that happens anyway lol) So I figure things out and get it done. He’s a jack of all trades and an excellent teacher, so I seek his wisdom often! Plus, TH-cam is a plethora of people who know vastly more than me. So, I learn from them and do what I can 😊 I get my kids to help sometimes when I need an extra hand or two, they’re great helpers. Im never truly alone 😉

@@FarmGirlInProgress You doing things as a woman gives encouragement for others to try. . It's a big step for many to take and try to do things on there own .. I'm sure many appreciate your courage and content to get them to take that step

@@littleridgefarm4073 thank you for saying that! That means a lot to me 😊 It’s my hope, to encourage others to just give it a shot, whatever “it” is. It’s only impossible if we never take a step and try 🤷‍♀️

I do apologize. In my editing I did leave it a bit too loud and didn't catch it in my final edits until after uploading. It does stop roughly 1:40 into the video and remains off until the ending screens.
