Watched this as a refresher, started incubating my first eggs 3 months ago. Hatched out 14 quail, 10 roo’s 4 hens. Just put 20 eggs in the incubator 3 days ago. Oh, I keep 9 roosters in a different cage, only 1 rooster with my 4 hens. Been eating eggs since they were about 7 weeks old. The 9 extra roosters will be headed to the dining table next week. Waiting to see how many fertile before eating all my back up roosters.
You have taught me a great deal about both rabbits and quail. I appreciate the time you spend on your videos. Thank You!

I don't know if it will work for you but somewhere I read that if you increase the incubation temperature by 1 to 2° you end up with almost all females... So far it's worked twice... 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Mr. Chris, a fantastic video, as always. Been doing this a while now so this was mostly review for me, but couldn't help thinking how incredibly valuable this video would be for the rank beginner or for those who are just considering whether or not to raise quail.
You covered all the bases quickly & concisely.
One thing I alway fail to comment on when I leave a response is how clever your door closures are. Most would install them 180° from the way you do it so the bolt would just fall open when disengaged. But a raccoon, if pawing at the closure, would find the door falling open & feast. The way you installed them makes that impossible.
So very simple a protection for your your covey. Simple, but it is just one more item that demonstrates how well you have thought this through & why, if we watch & listen to you, we will be successful.
You are a prized resource, Sir. And I, as do many others, thank you Chris. We pray God's blessings upon you and your family (incl. Max the wonder dog...)

Hey Chris, great video! We are trying quail for the first time and your videos are super helpful. We copied your quail hutch and it came out great. We just moved our quail to the hutch and they seem to spend all of their time in the open side of the hutch. They even sleep in the open side. It’s summer so nights get down to about 50 degrees. Should I be worried that they are staying in the open air side at night? I guess I’m used to our chickens that all head inside as soon as it gets dark.

You can continue to use game bird starter. That is what I feed all of my birds. Some people will switch to a game bird feed with a lower protein at about 8 weeks old (around 20 to 22%) and you can do that if you want to.
