  • The quail have been going through their water extremely fast in this hot weather. Today we are going to build them an automatic watering system using poultry drip waterers.

***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 5 new videos every week! Tuesday through Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!

    Hi Kevin ,
Also available from Amazon are 1/2" sched 40 pvc tees that are sized and threaded to accept the chicken / rabbit nipples. No drilling required ! You simply decide on the spacing between the nipples and cut the 1/2 pvc pipe to create that spacing. Assemble and you are done.
My chickens are outside in a chicken tractor that has a shelter , roosts , and nesting boxes. I collect the rain water from the shelter ( coop ) roof and direct it to the five gallon bucket and it goes from there to the nipples. I get rain often enough that the bucket has never gone dry . My feed set up is on the opposite side and I fill it once a week. The feeder is below the coop so it is more or less protected from the rain. Depending upon which way the wind is blowing.
Everything is contained within the chicken tractor which has wheels. Two minutes each day or every other day to move the chicken tractor to a new position. The part that takes me the longest usually is collecting eggs.

Quail are awesome they have such unique personalities they love cilantro too. Just make sure you have one male to 4-5 females. The male can be pretty mean...with each other when fighting separate them. Oh yeah and they are fast exciting the cagelol

Great idea, cleaner water for them and less work for you.....a win, win! I have seen people give their pigs those horse balls (I don't know what their true name is. Lol) and rope dog toys and they play just like kids. But I think I remember them telling me that the pigs eventually ate the rope. Lol. We have put up an old tire, like you would to make a swing, for ours to push around at times of boredom. Just if you do, beware of the height, make sure they can't try to climb through like ours and get stuck..... thank goodness we were still observing for possible mishaps when it happened! Wish we had of caught those following 30 minutes on video! It would have been a hit on AFHV! Thanks for sharing and God bless!

To stay on cheap side, drill holes first ,then heat end of pvc pipe and squease in vise to close ends, then get ice maker tube and two fittings, put one on the back of longer pvc, then for mounting use saw to cut 1.5 inch long pieces for mounting split those pieces and heat to expand ,and to go over longer pipe for mounting drill and heat to go over pvc pipe use them for mounting couple of drywall screws and ready to go

Most of mine cracked tried Teflon same thing ended up with pvc glue and caulk then found out that they make the 1/2” tees in pvc...would have saved allot of time and frustration.

I just saw the part of a later video where you talk about starting to incubate your quail for the first time, and I noticed that you changed to the watering cups versus the square nozzle things. An update about that would be nice considering you suggested in this video to use the ones you did that are in your amazon store....

Ok here is a series I'm impatiently waiting for....quail everything! My husband loves quail but I've never raised them. Can you do a batch for meat in a Mobil chicken tractor?? I built the lumnah acres chicken tractor with all the accessories which includes the bucket with those nipples. Wondering if this type of setup can be used for quail? If so I'll build another one!

I just found your channel, the first video i watched was you moving the pigs to the bigger area with electric fencing. I remember you saying the only draw back is you dont have running water in that area so you have to bring buckets of water. I have found on TH-cam videos of people showing how to dig 12’ wells and it seems to work well and is simple with some elbow grease. Just a thought
