All around love this monitor, I think it’s the best for my needs and I would 100% buy it again!
What do you mean Max number of patches? Ive been considering this monitor for ages but its still out of stock in Australia. I do wish LG had a glossy screen model with USB C and Dolby Vision. I do however prefer preserving dark blacks but the clearer text quality the better for me.
No burn-in warranty is a deal-breaker for many. Burn-in was a concern for me but the burn-in warranty from Dell made it an easy decision for me to get the Dell AW3225QF on launch date.
I think it doesn‘t make such a huge difference, as Burn-In is most likely to occur only after the 3 years anyways, and then you‘re also not covered by the manufacturers that offer a warranty
No burn in warranty should be a crime. OLED has a concerning flaw that can be incredibly detrimental to a customers experience of that monitor so they need to support the customer by giving burn in warranty of at least 4 years in my opinion If you want people to pay you a premium price for your product that has a serious user risk to it then you need to show the customer that you have their back and compensate with a warranty
I've been watching all the videos recently, your final thoughts are the same as mine. I think QD OLED is the way to go, having that glossy screen and higher brightness I feel is much more important than a dual mode.
besides, 240hz oled with basically no response time is clear AF. i think a mode that just reduces the size of the display while keeping the clarity is more important than dual mode 480hz. this monitor tries to use 1080p@24 and 1080p@27 and fails to keep the clarity because that's not the correct amount of pixels for the size given in the area. i think asus PG32UCDM solved this by just running the monitor in weird resolutions like 1620p@240hz@27'' etc. this way there is correct amount of pixels in the given area and it's still clear.
The QD-OLED is worse than WOLED not because it being QD, but because of the anti-glare coating that reduces the blocks quite a lot, making the black - grey.
@@KeepAnOpenMind it's the lack of a polarizing layer in panel technology that causes the reduced black levels in lit conditions rather than coating. you can fix lit room with a $20 blackout curtain, you can't fix matte graininess though. not to mention qd-oleds have better color.
@@KeepAnOpenMindwhich simply not true. Unless you live in brightly lit studio environment or have ypur monitor directly facing the sun next to a window this is barely the case at all.
if you have that much of an issue with the matte finish, the 480hz mode isn't for you either that mode is for competitive gamers. and a monitor geared towards those guys always have a matte finish. I have not seen a glossy monitor at a tournament ever. They are willing to sacrifice a bit of PQ for an edge. Think of the 24 and 27in mode that sacrifice A LOT of PQ, there will be sweats that use it. and this monitor, sadly for me, is for them. get a QD OLED
I was going to wait for the 27" 1440P 480HZ variant, but ended up trying the Asus 540HZ TN and truthfully had a difficult time discerning in a game between 360HZ, 480HZ and 540HZ. I hated the way the TN looked so I returned it and ended up buying the Alienware 360HZ OLED and honestly, I couldn't be happier and at $1000 CAD I thought it was a great deal.

Loving the content around these exciting monitors this year. Personally really looking forward to the Gigabyte QD-OLED with high hopes for the new Display Port implementation. If we also get DP 2.1 with the new GPU's later this year I'm going to have some explaining to do to my bank. On that not, Is anyone looking for some non-vital organs, I may have to sell some of mine for all of these upgrades lmao
To clarify, I did mean UHBR 20 specifically, not just the physical port. Some day these companies will decide to set a standard and actually enforce it instead of changing their minds after the fact to them just being guidelines.
very curious to understand why a new GPU with DP2.1 would make you want to upgrade? unless an upgrade is already due, I don't really see how this would improve the experience with the monitor for spending like 1k usd on a new GPU
@@patrikmedia I have a 3080 and 5950x at the moment and my main monitor is 1440p 144hz. When I first heard about the original QD-OLED's I knew I wanted one as my next investment but was waiting until they were 4K. I have Held off upgrading my system as the 40 series wasn't an appealing upgrade value or performance wise, and the only real reason I have to upgrade is due to Tarkov preferring better RAM. Although UHBR 20 won't be a deal breaker, to me it seams worth waiting to hear more about as I will most likely end up upgrading everything at the end of the year. If these monitors hadn't been released this year I would most likely have waited to see if 50 series was worth it and upgraded then anyway
No. No. No no no! If this was in a business environment, I know the bosses would be expecting 8x the workrate, given it's 8x the refresh rate. We're all overstretched by profit-gouging as it is and you know they won't pay for the fan to counter the heat generated in our fingers from the friction of typing that fast.

It looks good aesthetically, but this is an obvious no-go for anyone with a brain. Great review as usual, i appriciate all of the data provided!
I thought WOLED would be far superior for brightness, wasn't expecting that small of a difference. I also would have liked to know more about the in-built Pixel Sound screen speakers. Surprised you didn't cover it.
Exactly. Sony OLED TV had CSO crystal sound OLED I believe. From what it sounds like, this is the same tech an a big part of its feature set. Odd to gloss over it like that.
With all these OLED Gaming monitors releasing and especially this one not featuring a burn-in warranty, the 27GR95UM looks like a great contender for people using their display for a mix of gaming/work. Sadly there are hardly any updated reviews with the new firmware and it is still not available in Europe. Rtings has it on their todo-list though, any chance we get a video here as well? Cheers
I have been using this monitor (LG 32GS95UX-B) for over 2 weeks, it is not a bad device, but the advantages of an OLED (if you are used to LG c2, c3 or Apple displays like the Studio Display or PRO XDR) do not really come into their own. Glass or glossy would simply make the colors pop much more and the font would also be much sharper on the LG 32GS95UX-B. I hope LG brings out one with a glossy coating for the next model at the level of the LG C series models, that would simply be a DREAM!
Gawdaammmm you guys are killing it on reviews of these new panels, and you can really see you’re enjoying reviewing this stuff. It’s a great year for the 32” 4K user, long overdue…. So interesting to see both techs now offer decent enough text clarity to make it a non-issue, leaving only burn-in as a sorrow for the 5yr+ owner. In this case lack of USBC and KVM makes it already pretty obsolete today compared to the competition , and as a longer term buyer an absolute no-no. Great review Tim, you’re just the best and this coverage just confirms it 👌 💪
Watching this review from my Alienware AW3225QF payed 1100€ is insane, and it's practically flawless. I've preferred it from a W-OLED display for it's better uniformity and colors. QD-OLED it's the way to go now!
Yup sadly woled isn't competitive enough and in the tv space the g4 looking like the best option has horrific pricing no one should even think of buying. Idk wtf lg is thinking
Considering the improved text clarity, improved color brightness range, and burn-in warranties of QD-OLEDs over WOLEDs, it's clear that QD-OLEDs are the better choices at the same prices.
For monitor gamma, you should target the BT1886 EOTF as it takes into account black levels of the panel in the equation. sRGB isn't that good for OLEDs because of the fact it has pure blacks and it leads to washed out shadows. If you take 2 monitors with different black levels and calibrate them to BT1886, a grayscale gradient will look the same on both monitors.
LG is planning for both 32" IPS Black 4k 240hz/480hz and 144hz/288hz dual-mode screens to enter mass production at the end of the year, so expect Asus, LG, etc. to release corresponding monitors around this time next year.
For $1,400 I'd expect a few more features, such as a KVM switch, USB-C, Dolby Vision, a burn in warranty, ect. Seems like a premium pricetage for a premium panel, but without the premium features to go with it.
It has burn in warranty, they just didn't promote it. Dolby Vision would be a nice feature - although most games only support HDR10. It would be nice for movie watching though.
5:49 Maybe I'm crazy, but i definitely prefer the look of the WOLED on the left. MUCH less colour fringing (zero?) and also looks higher resolution with much less aliasing. 🤷♂️
My experience with working in an extremely bright room, having both a glossy and a matte monitor, is that room brightness can never be efficiently counter-acted except by use of a hood, especially if light comes from the sides. So all in all, a QD-OLED would be a better choice for me still. Only problem: The ASUS monitor I want is barely available in my region.
These new multi high refresh models been something I have wondered why did not exist before, like 240hz is more than enough for 4k, but having th 1080p at 480Hz, and why not have a 360Hz mode 1440p or whatever the Panel is able to do. It do come at a Premium price tag, but if they work well, I would personly be willing to pay it for having the choice at a even higher refresh rate at the lower resolutions

Thanks for the comprehensive review. That's a lot of work you've done. At 3:27 you say, "If you want to use Nvidia features that are incompatible with DSC..." What are those features? Does it affect DP as well as HDMI? Limiting yourself to 120 Hz on a 240 Hz monitor seems problematic. At this price point it's a pity that the dual mode functionality cannot be controlled from the desktop, possibly via an app and USB cable.
@@rucko7415 There is no limitation from LG. HDR 4k/120Hz without DSC is 40 Gbps. HDMI 2.1 only supports 48 Gbps. This is 100% on Nvidia, just google "Nvidia DSC" and you'll see. AMD has none of these issues.
Now, I'll have to wait for you to review the new 1440p models with higher refresh rates coming later this year. Then I can make up my mind on which one to get!
this seems amazing. But I use my display for 90% for work with a lot of excel and excel like programs. So i'd still not be confident in getting an Oled for my main display. However, if I had the budget to get another machine I'd use this 100%
Just checked the local offerings , LG UltraGear 32GS95UE-B $2500 . MSI MPG 321URX QD-OLED $2699 , ASUS ROG Swift PG32UCDM $3200 so at least locally they are priced competitively.
Any news regarding MAG 271QPX QD-OLED, the "non-firmware upgradable" 360Hz QD-OLED? Will there be a review? And if there will be, can you please reach out to MSI and ask WHY did they go down such a route, and get us the info in technical terms why it's the way it is, and also learn about the prospects of this feature making a comeback? Thanks, Tim!
I buy Oled for it’s AMAZING picture quality. With this matte coating, you add grain and have less punchy colors. Glossy is the way to go, that’s a fact! I had both at home and I am surprised that glossy reflections are less distracting than matte! The only thing I don’t like is the purple tint of the room is bright, but It is still ok. I can make the room darker and have the perfect picture. There is always a compromise….
Finally a playable oled with a real pixel distance accurate ufo and sync. Now meta 2.0 and mla+ for double brightnees and i finally buy and dump my crt. Review is excellent. Can the 540hz benq do sync with dyac? Last question i have for the Monitor market as a only fast FPS gamer.
So I've had this monitor for about 2 weeks now, and I'm a bit conflicted with it. I upgraded from a 27" Acer Predator XB273K and currently have these 2 monitors sitting side by side. The biggest pro for this monitor is its higher refresh rate compared to the 120mhz Predator, which can be overclocked to 144mhz but doing so requires 2 DP cables, and it's very finicky to setup. That's kinda where the pros for this monitor stop at though. The Acer, being LED, has a much more crisp text display, whereas the LG is a bit more blurry. When comparing videos, the Acer's color's are a bit more dull, but the image is more defined when it comes to details. Again, the LG looks a bit blurry, but is a bit brighter in colors; not by much though. When gaming, I will say the LG has the edge here for image clarity. It just seems like this monitor was built for just gaming, nothing else. That's where it seems to excel at. Use for anything else seems redundant, with cheaper alternatives out there. It will work, but staring at it for hours on end on workstation duties will probably begin to strain the eyes. I guess my biggest gripe is the price for what you get when I compared it to my Acer. I feel like I didn't really step up, as I got my Acer for $600 compared to this $1400 ouchy. They need to knock off a least $300 to make it more attractive, and even then I would say it's still $100 over. It's a good monitor, and for me, I rate it 8/10. If you are coming from 1080p or even 1440p you'll see a DRASTIC increase, but when you sidegrade, you'll probably feel like me; a bit disappointed.
$1400.00 > I'm looking for a high end monitor for my new gaming PC, so this is still a strong possibility. > No burn in warranty > LG just got taken out of the running.
I bought the Alienware aw3225qf. They were first to market and the only manufacturer that has had a solid track record with their burn in warranty. They also send you a replacement first before you ship the burned in one back. That's huge imo

@@Citizenflaba So, like the old Fords. You can have any colour you like, so long as it's black!? Glossy's only really useable in a dark environment, as I just proved having to close the curtains to watch the glossy telly, cos otherwise I could only see my reflection in dark scenes.
Matte Finish…oh LG… they never learn… have been using the Asus and i LOVE the glossy finish everyday i turn it on… The dual 400hz feature sounds cool tho!
Not that exciting over my 1440p 360 hz OLED but I’m glad they are starting the march towards 1000 hz 1000 fps OLED or better tech someday. That is the dream for essentially perfect looking motion clarity (with no annoying strobing trade offs). But I wonder how difficult it’s going to be to get 750+ frames in games in future even if we have frame gen (in single player games). We are going to need some serious tech improvements. I’m so glad channels like this exist that focus on how important motion clarity is which has really helped me improve my gaming enjoyment recently. Channels like this and sites like blur busters are incredible.
Thank you for the nice review. The only benefit of this model vs. current Q/W Oleds are 480hz refresh rate at 1080p on a 32 inch monitor. To me, this just isn't enough 1. Size 32inch way to big for esports regardless of putting it way back. 2. 480 hz benefit is really nice at 1080p as seen in the UFO image however only available at 32 inch 3. You can’t get the 480hz benefit (as Ali at Optimuum shows in his review) in cropped modes (27 or 24 inch) at 1080 to make the picture smaller on panel. This in my opinion is the key issue with this panel. I also wonder what happens to input lag in cropped modes. Would be great to get your input on this. 4. Most people moved to 1440p vs 1080p so going back-at least for me personally- is not an option So I am not sure this differentiation at this price level is any value to anyone who is looking for a high refresh rate esport functionality.
@@phrozenliquidzi said “480hz benefit” as cropped versions don’t have same UFO image clarity as 32 inch. Check out optimuum images. This means cropped modes don’t fully benefit from 480hz if they don’t provide same clear image as native

In the UK this is going to be atleast £400-£500 more than the AW 32" QD-OLED, ok yes the AW has a mild curve, but still, id rather save the money and put thats towards another piece of hardware or an update to my peripherals.... I watched a video of an LG shill from the UK (happily taking the LG Ad ££) and he's recommending this monitor to bloody console gamers, which is utterly ridiculous! No official Burn in warranty, and a gimmick 1080p 420hz mode does not make this an "End Game" monitor, which is what a lot of tech "influencers" are hailing it as, I'd take both the AW and MSI QD-OLED offerings over this.
LOL, multi mode res-refresh rate combinations such as the 1080p @ 480Hz in this case is fantastic stuff. Wait until you actually experience it in games that match the framerate to the max refresh, you'll be impressed.

The main benefit here is the black floor. And whites are whiter when brightness level is the same as qd oled. Things look more contrasty. That's important when watching movies but most people don't watch movies on pc monitors. Everything else is better on qd oled. It will be interesting when the Asus model comes out as it maybe brighter.
That is my problem with LG, for a monitor of this price, the stand should be metal, I had a MSI Creator PS321QR and upgraded to the LG 32GP850 and noticed immediately the lack of quality of the monitor itself compared to the MSI Creator PS321QR. I was very disappointed, was going to return it but the monitor itself was great so I kept it.
The BEST monitor I've ever had, and it's not even close. The "cons" are literally nit picks of the top 1% of the top 1% and should not be a concern at all.
Text clarity is a deal breaker for me. I tried the new 32" QD-OLED and the text was just not sharp enough when comparing to a 4k IPS panel. The text simply looked blurry and I'm dissapointed that this WOLED does not improve on QD-OLED :(
They will never beat rgb layout text. Woled is because of the white pixel. Qd oled is because the triangle rgb layout. I went from TN to oled and text only bothered me for a couple days.
Great review Tim. I think I've decided to go with the Gigabyte FO32U2P with full DP2.1 bandwidth assuming everything else is similar to MSI & Asus QD-OLED 32" monitors. QD-OLED gives true colour because there's no white pixel to boost brightness. It's the same reason I got the Samsung 65S95B. I can control sunlight entering my room with a blind so light isn't an issue & I generally prefer glossy screen because I edit photos. Gonna have to sell my LG monitor though. These monitors are all USD1300+
The next "Best Gaming Monitors" video will be super interesting. I love the dual mode, this idea could end up giving os a screen with very little drawbacks.
Not sure if anyone else has the same feeling, but I can no longer tolerate listening to the same OLED vs LCD explanation for the 100th time in the HDR performance section. It’s high time you just have a separate video on the subject that you spend 10 seconds explaining exists and then linking it. Otherwise exceptional and nearly perfect review as always. You are the best and I really mean that.
It's the only monitor sofar that can do cinematic games in 4k 240hz and also is near the best you can get in terms of motion clarity for comp games. With the added benefit of keeping this during vrr. It's a halo product for those that want the best of both worlds, will be exciting to see when this becomes more affordable.
I love you guys' detailed reviews. My only issue is I wish that you guys would test the input lag at 60, 120, and the max refresh rate like you do for your refresh rate testing and not just at the max refresh rates only.
How can you even begin to suggest the subpixel layout being worse than QD-OLED for text clarity when your side by side infographic clearly shows a comical amount of pink/green bleeding around all text on the QD side and the WOLED side shows a comparable amount of blur at the edge of characters to QD (also something easily corrected in Cleartype which chromatic aberation can't). At least state your clear bias before you say something literally no human would ever agree with. You are informing a low information audience and you should be careful not to flat out lie to them.
Raised brightness with darker scenes seems to be an okay thing for some games. In most OLED reviews I've seen at least minor complains about some games being too dark because devs didnt consider this display type
This is a quality review - my understanding is it has 2 year burn in warranty? When will we get the true fave off between the MSI, ASUS, Alienware vs LG?
Crazy how in his mid apl real scene brightness test the 27gr95qe is the second brightness oled he has tested. I find the brightness fine personally in real world use (so long as vignetting is disabled via the surface remote) and that test bears it out to a degree.

i think a mode that just reduces the size of the display while keeping the clarity is more important than dual mode 480hz.
this monitor tries to use 1080p@24 and 1080p@27 and fails to keep the clarity because that's not the correct amount of pixels for the size given in the area.
i think asus PG32UCDM solved this by just running the monitor in weird resolutions like 1620p@240hz@27'' etc. this way there is correct amount of pixels in the given area and it's still clear.
The QD-OLED is worse than WOLED not because it being QD, but because of the anti-glare coating that reduces the blocks quite a lot, making the black - grey.
@@KeepAnOpenMind it's the lack of a polarizing layer in panel technology that causes the reduced black levels in lit conditions rather than coating.

if you have that much of an issue with the matte finish, the 480hz mode isn't for you either
that mode is for competitive gamers. and a monitor geared towards those guys always have a matte finish. I have not seen a glossy monitor at a tournament ever.
No DP 2.1, no glossy finish, no burn in warranty. With lack of these things it is simply WAY too expensive in my opinion.

It's a complete joke. LG should stick to making GLOSSY TVs. Their OLED monitors are PATHETIC!
Yeah, I got my 42" C2 for 650€. A matte finish would be a downgrade for me.
Why you need 2.1 if it works as it should?
The design of this monitor is definitely a plus. A normal/serious looking monitor with square base, so you can use even in business environment.
No. No. No no no!
If this was in a business environment, I know the bosses would be expecting 8x the workrate, given it's 8x the refresh rate.

Which OLED monitor has those?
I thought WOLED would be far superior for brightness, wasn't expecting that small of a difference. I also would have liked to know more about the in-built Pixel Sound screen speakers. Surprised you didn't cover it.
Exactly. Sony OLED TV had CSO crystal sound OLED I believe. From what it sounds like, this is the same tech an a big part of its feature set. Odd to gloss over it like that.
Hehe, GLOSS over it...
Same! I have a bright room and was hoping WOLED would have a meaningful difference over QDOLED.
@monitorsunboxed Nice review, but you forgot the speakers completely. Would have been nice to hear how the 2 x 10w speakers(pixel sound) sound like.

Thanks for the review. This is very informative.

@@rickystafford7433 Yep. Love my AW2725DF!
Man, I just want the same thing in 27 inches and with a high-end IPS screen... I mean, I gotta work too...
LG is planning for both 32" IPS Black 4k 240hz/480hz and 144hz/288hz dual-mode screens to enter mass production at the end of the year, so expect Asus, LG, etc. to release corresponding monitors around this time next year.
I was certainly looking forward to this review. Certainly a pass from my based on price and warranty. I had wanted the 1080p mode for retro games
Im digging the matte finish because my office is small and a window is behind me, but I want to see whst ASUS does with same panel later this year.
I assume they went with 1080p because at least with full screen coverage it is a clean 4x integer scale with 2160p
@@KoolAidManOG Ya sound logic. the 1440p resolution is a bit odd unless compared with 720p, wonder if there is gonna be a 2880p in between the 4k and 8k res.

I was curious about that too, HDMI 2.1 can do more than 120hz@4k without DSC, so is this an arbitrary limitation by LG?
@@rucko7415 There is no limitation from LG. HDR 4k/120Hz without DSC is 40 Gbps. HDMI 2.1 only supports 48 Gbps. This is 100% on Nvidia, just google "Nvidia DSC" and you'll see. AMD has none of these issues.

To me, this just isn't enough
1. Size 32inch way to big for esports regardless of putting it way back.
2. 480 hz benefit is really nice at 1080p as seen in the UFO image however only available at 32 inch
4. Most people moved to 1440p vs 1080p so going back-at least for me personally- is not an option
So I am not sure this differentiation at this price level is any value to anyone who is looking for a high refresh rate esport functionality.
You're going to have to elaborate on point 3, what do you mean you can't get 480hz in cropped mode? It clearly shows it in the video...

Unbelievable that LG thinks they can peddle this for 1400$...they would have trouble competing at 1000$ price point with this product...
They've shown in other videos how changing refresh rates in OLED-type panels doesn't change input lag (at least when compared to LCD alternatives).
Imo, we need a glossy woled motor so we can test these with the same coating
Raised brightness with darker scenes seems to be an okay thing for some games. In most OLED reviews I've seen at least minor complains about some games being too dark because devs didnt consider this display type
Finally a review
This is a quality review - my understanding is it has 2 year burn in warranty? When will we get the true fave off between the MSI, ASUS, Alienware vs LG?
No burn-in warranty - no buy. End of story.
Matte, imagine paying so much money for an oled MATTE screen in 2024. No way
It does have burn in warranty
Not all of us can place our monitor away from a window. @@PedroS-ig1wr
Should be interesting to compare this with Samsung's upcoming 1,500$ Matte 32" QD-Oled 4k side by side.
I would love to see a 1440p version of dual resolution instead of 1080p.
Crazy how in his mid apl real scene brightness test the 27gr95qe is the second brightness oled he has tested. I find the brightness fine personally in real world use (so long as vignetting is disabled via the surface remote) and that test bears it out to a degree.
That price just misses the mark.
My C2 will do just fine till my 4090 gives out....
My c1 will also do till my 4080 dies
Sure like having 42 inches is not a monstrosity in the desk
Comparing tvs to monitor 😂
@@hsp8933 because it's not the same tech or other companies don't make bigger monitors too...
@hsp8933 it's a tv that just so happens to be brilliant for gaming. I also have a 1440p monitor for normal tasks or gaming if I like
@@hsp8933I mean that's subjective, I have seen better looking setups using a 42 than 32. Just a bigger desk.
In australia you can buy this model for $1799 AUD currently on pre purchase off the LG website which is a seriously good discount.
I was really interested in this unit, during pre orders I actually had it in my cart but I just couldn’t do it. That DISGUSTING matte coating is just a deal breaker for me.
Future proof monitor, definately getting that one.
Never buy a monitor with a fan even when reviewers state he doesn't hear it, or nearly doesn't. than you know its bad
Why does that make it bad?
@@mryellow6918if your not wearing headphones it’s annoying
Literally almost every high end monitor has a fan. Good luck lol
@@ThisIsExile91 the asus 32 inch 4k qd-oled doesnt next :D
Fans do give out over time which would be my main concern , not a deal breaker but if there is a similar version without one then I'd pick that
Brilliant as always! Thanks!
Highest price with no burn in warranty? Very interesting take LG. By the end of Summer this monitor will be under $800. LG always over price their monitors and then realize no one is buying them and has massive price cuts towards the end of the year.
Love to see the 34" and 39" wide screens reviewed. Those look amazing for ultrawide users. I wonder if it's worth the upgrade from 144hz ultrawides to 240hz or wait until 360ha ultrawides.
