USB C PD port in the ASUS is definitely the decisive factor for me. The possibility to use it for gaming on a PC and being able to connect either a work laptop or a Mac Book is great.
240Hz is making use of Windows/apps silky smooth making feel your computer more responsive and fast. IMHO all monitors should be a gold standard to have high refresh rate if you are gaming or not.
I'd love to see this industrial design with the ROG's glossy cover glass and better thermal management. I guess the quest for a perfect monitor is still ongoing!
Great review! I enjoy both competitive and single player games so this monitor is very intriguing to me. Definitely would use the 480 Hz mode for OW and Valorant. My one question though is glossy versus matte; is it really that big of a difference or are people over exaggerating?
glossy the light comes straight into the eyes which gives intense colors but also even dazzling whites. The surface takes reflections like a mirror. It is however quite pretty in a room when it is turned off. Matte screens greatly attenuate reflections, and the image is softer, a little less dazzling but with less intense colors. I personally prefer matte for a gaming/working/text PC etc. It's much more comfortable and relaxing when you spend time on it

Just a heads up, I've had the Asus PG32UCDM and i sent it back. It locks you out of changing any settings while in HDR mode. I'm very partial to a cooler colour Temp / white balance and it doesn't let you change this to your liking making everything look yellow / orange. I was utterly disappointed and very annoyed. Isn't it up to the user on how they want to see their picture? Especially when these things cost more than £1k. Absolutely unacceptable imo, you can change these settings on a tv for Christ sake, Ill be trying the LG next
Thats very interesting because HDR color accuracy is much better with wider color gamut than LG not to mention fucked up EOTF for HDR. And HDR settings are locked both on LG/Asus. You can pick HDR mode and calibrate colors for DCP-I3 and SRGB mode along with Gamma. Check MonitorUnboxed review for LG - you goofed sending it back my man.
W-OLED is your common OLED display type. From what I've seen, QD-OLED is newer and better in the sense that its colors are more vibrant and the screen more uniform. I think they usually can get a little brighter, too? The main visual benefit is more color vibrancy. I think it's the same technology as W-OLED, but it has a Quantom Dot layer in the panel(QD), that gives it it's even stronger colors and uniformity.
For ESports the 1440p 360hz at 27'' would be much preferable to 1080p at 32''. I think they need to release this in a smaller size. I want to buy it, but only if they make a 27'' version. May just end up buying the 2725df at almost half the cost. I doubt 360hz to 480hz is very noticeable, especially at 1440p when even on CS2 your not running 480 fps very often.
I absolutely love mine. I never knew what i was missing . But 240 4k is SOOOO BEAUTIFUL. Im not saying theres differences or that theres better options because i wouldn't really know. But the step up from my other monitors is DRASTIC
It does not do power delivery and it has no USB-C port. The display ports on this monitor do not deliver power nor is that a spec that exists over the native display port connector standard.
hey, can I play 1440p with this monitor? Want to play some games in 4k but warzone in 1440p, 1080p is to low. Is that possible? how much hz can I expect, 240hz in 1440p?
Are you sure the stand is plastic? Looking on LG’s site, under dimensions for weight it says with stand: 19.8, without stand 12.3. Would a plastic stand really weigh 7lbs?
It looks gorgeous, I just have one question, nowadays are there many video games in 4K resolution running stably at more than 200 fps ?… at least with the most powerful graphics card to take advantage of those 240Hz of this monitor or do the adaptive sync technologies make the monitor run at much lower hertz and without realizing it?
It's an OLED, the colors are obviously the best you can get on a display. Bettern than IPS, VA and TN. The only thing than can beat it might be MiniLED or MicroLED
The main selling point of OLED for me has always been the glass panel. Matte looks dull even slightly off axis, as seen here with the LG versus the Asus. There's a reason the Apple section of Best Buy always has people standing there mesmerized. It's all the beautiful, bright, color saturated glass displays with inky deep blacks. Nearly all PC monitors are so lifeless and boring by comparison. Even bonded glass IPS looks far better to me than matte OLED.
You didn't cover the Pixel Sound. You are the third major monitor youtuber who totally ignored that feature. If I purchase the Alienware, there is no headphone jack. I have to purchase a sound bar to use with consoles. That is another $175 to $999 (depending on the sound bar chosen) in order to get sound with the Alienware connecting to a console. The LG *IS* the speaker. Speakers are in the monitor, and the sound radiates from the screen. The LG is the only monitor to have that feature, and it shouldn't be ignored in reviews.
@@iiTudy Yes, I did buy the monitor because it was 140PPI OLED, AND it had speakers. It's another $175 - $999 for a soundbar. Having speakers was exactly the reason why I purchased this. These speakers from other reviews aren't tinny, they are relatively loud, and actually pretty good with a relatively good bass to them.
I'll take the glossy screen every time, at least until someone figures out a good matte coating, which I haven't seen so far. OLED blacks shouldn't be gray imho.
With lights on theres no true blackcks on either screen coating QD oleds loose too much contrast And even W-oled with glossy display with ambient light the screen reflects too much to apretiate blacks
Please don't fall for the shilling & grifting. I've seen the monitor, it has the absolute worst Matte finish on any modern monitor. I'm not a "glossy absolutist", this is just THAT bad. The warranty issue is secondary and appalling. Then there's the price & lack of other features available in other cheaper monitors. I'm a huge fan of LG OLED TVs, I've had a 65" LG CX for years but this monitor looks TERRIBLE when you see it in person. Forget your own lighting in the room. The grain & oily appearance absolutely ruins this monitor. Every Monitor Reviewer has called EACH QD-OLED "The Best Monitor", until the next company releases. From MSI, Dell, ASUS, now LG, then Samsung (I'm sure), each version has been a "must buy" from everyone other than TheDisplayGuy. As a gamedev, music producer & video editor, I find this recent clickbait trend the worst. It's one thing to clickbait for general content, but when you're influencing buyers decisions and their money, I take issue. No one should buy this monitor based on the Warranty alone, but the Matte finish looks nearly defective from production. It's that bad.
The 1080p mode is terrible. A PPI of 70 can work with a TV, but 32” up close is blur town. So you end up paying 300-500 more than the competition for something that is basically usable as a cool showcase to a friend of yours.
well you clearly only use this mode for competitive games and never for desktop use or story driven gaming, in that case the difference in resolution hardly a problem. really need to take the use cases into account. for example most CS players play on 1280x960 on 1080p monitors, so 1080p mode here would be absolutely no problem apart from the physical size being rather big, but that can be easily solved by just moving the monitor further back. it's a very niche feature for sure and should only be relevant if you actually need more than 240hz but still want an incredible desktop experience.
@@Thetechchap Yeah you got a point there. Keep up the good work on your videos. I enjoy your reviews particularly the ones about laptops and tablets(iPads)👍
If the monitor can do 480 internally, I don't see why they couldn't do a 4K 120Hz BFI mode that runs 3 identical frames, then a black, from a 120Hz signal.
I REALLY want to preorder this monitor but its currently not even coming up as a product on LG Australia website even though Amazon US and LG US have had it up for preorder for ages.

I had very high hopes for the new LG OLED panels, but this monitor is kind of fail (especially for that price point) compared to QD-OLEDs. No USB C port, no burn-in warranty, matte coating, QD-OLEDs are better calibrated in SDR and HDR, lower HDR brightniss in real scenario scenes, no Dolby Vision. How is the text? Returned an MSI 271 today as the text was awful compared to my IPS 4k Samsung
Great review thanks. How's the graphics when you plug in a Mac?
Got this LG for my ps5, expensive but I love the way it looks change my gaming experience fr
So what happened to displayport 2.1?
No point of dp 2.1 yet... lol theres zero hardware that can take advantage of it.
@@matthewrezuke8130 the GPUs coming next year will. Putting DP 1.4 especially on monitors at this price tier is r3tarded lol
Only the Gigabyte one coming will have DP 2.1 with UHBR20. Thats it lol
@@chy.0190They aren't coming next year, LMAO. And no, upping the generation wouldn't do anything even if "next year's GPUs" could somehow take advantage of it.

Which monitor would you recommend between the two, LG or Asus?
There's Something Different & Dope about the tech chaps's Videos always 🔥
Oh that's a gorgeous looking monitor. Shame is doesn't have usb-c honestly. I would rather go for the ASUS although im not a fan of the design
I hate how the ports are located underneath the screen. I know that the stand is supposed to be the cable management, but I don't want to see any cables. Especially if I'm paying $1,399
what refresh rate you got when you plugged either the lg 4k oled or ROG into your macbook pro.
When are they coming out with the 42" 4k 240hz oled version?
I like it's your video techchap ❤
You're not the only that's been waiting for this we all need it 🤙
Can someone please tell me when the monitor should come out? Is there any date?
$1,399.99 for a monitor...
Calling it a "enthusiast product" is a huge abuse...
What would you call it? :)
@@Thetechchapultra high end super enthusiast product lol
thx for the vid, subscribed !
27-Inch 4K QD-OLED high nits brightness min 120Hz that's all I want. Been waiting for that for soooo long. 32-Inch is just to big when you sit quite close to the monitor.
USB C PD port in the ASUS is definitely the decisive factor for me. The possibility to use it for gaming on a PC and being able to connect either a work laptop or a Mac Book is great.
Dude I always keep a twix up my sleeve for when I need a quick snack
The only thing that I dislike about the monitor is the size. I would literally kill to have a 480hz 27 inch OLED monitor.
Why smaller? Why not a few more inches?
Is it worth getting this just for productivity? Is there a display perhaps with comparable image quality but without the 240hz/RGB gaming features?
240Hz is making use of Windows/apps silky smooth making feel your computer more responsive and fast. IMHO all monitors should be a gold standard to have high refresh rate if you are gaming or not.
The quedtion is…Has coil whine??I returned ucdm an aw32 for this problem.AND ucdm has flickering withe gsync enabled. Can u test this?
I'd love to see this industrial design with the ROG's glossy cover glass and better thermal management. I guess the quest for a perfect monitor is still ongoing!
Would this be a better option over a 65in lg g2 oled?
Definitely if you’re using a pc. Tv can only reach 120 or 144hz I believe. I have a G3 and the monitor is still a lot better.
It's much more comfortable and relaxing when you spend time on it
ok first fantastic review been waiting for this don't get be wrong perfect time ok got a question because i got a 3080 gpu 4k may not be reached in a perfect way so the 1080 may be important until i get a 5090 card ,, so this may be the one but if you were me what would you do,, really like to hear your view and if anyone is in the same boat as i let me know what you may do .
many thx god bless
@@MrM-dl5zm not at all mate it looked shit. Orange tint to it. I’ve had it confirmed to me that the LG you can change colour temperature in HDR mode.
@@MrM-dl5zmObjectively untrue, lol.
Is W-OLED or QD-OLED better?
And what's the differences?
What about VRR flicker?
I absolutely love mine. I never knew what i was missing . But 240 4k is SOOOO BEAUTIFUL. Im not saying theres differences or that theres better options because i wouldn't really know. But the step up from my other monitors is DRASTIC
does a mat coating bothers you a lot ?
Good option for PS5?
Good review, although as an FPS streamer I'm so undecided on what monitor to upgrade to from my 1440p 240hz...or if I should even bother
25” 1080p oled at 540hz with .01ms response time and 99% DCI-P3 would be just perfect
Hey Tom, does the display port do power delivery? Could you use a DP to USBC cable to use a MacBook?
I don't believe so sadly
It does not do power delivery and it has no USB-C port. The display ports on this monitor do not deliver power nor is that a spec that exists over the native display port connector standard.
@@Thetechchap thanks Tom! Any chance of an updated monitor buying guide? Seems there is a gap for one! I can't find a good up to date one anyway! 😅
hey, can I play 1440p with this monitor? Want to play some games in 4k but warzone in 1440p, 1080p is to low. Is that possible? how much hz can I expect, 240hz in 1440p?
Are you sure the stand is plastic? Looking on LG’s site, under dimensions for weight it says with stand: 19.8, without stand 12.3.
Would a plastic stand really weigh 7lbs?
Cover can be plastic. Some metal inside can cause this weight...
What's the pixel cleaning like on this? does it nag you every x hours of usage or does it just handle it while in standby mode?
Handles during sleep or when you turn off
I bought one I think it's a huge upgrade from my QLED
It´s QHD Possible or only 4K and Full HD?
How much Hz does it have if you set up RGB 4:4.4 Full PC Mode without DSC?
It looks gorgeous, I just have one question, nowadays are there many video games in 4K resolution running stably at more than 200 fps ?… at least with the most powerful graphics card to take advantage of those 240Hz of this monitor or do the adaptive sync technologies make the monitor run at much lower hertz and without realizing it?
Cyberpunk 2077 without DLSS at 4K with raytracing and RTX4090 runs @30 FPS
You'd need to drop settings and use dlss to hit 240hz 4k even with the 4090.
I've owned bonded glass ips and Glossy oled. Matte oled seems to defeat the purpose in my opinion.
Glossy sucks.
MSI 32" $999 and extra for $400 you can buy any set of speakers you want that will blow out of the water whatever its inside any of the monitor.
I didn't totally ignore it, I think i mentioned twice how good the speakers are, and it's a shame the alternatives don't have it
if you bought a 1k monitor to game with monitor speakers, you don't deserve this monitor.
90% if people use a gaming headset
@@iiTudy Yes, I did buy the monitor because it was 140PPI OLED, AND it had speakers. It's another $175 - $999 for a soundbar. Having speakers was exactly the reason why I purchased this. These speakers from other reviews aren't tinny, they are relatively loud, and actually pretty good with a relatively good bass to them.
I'll take the glossy screen every time, at least until someone figures out a good matte coating, which I haven't seen so far. OLED blacks shouldn't be gray imho.
With lights on theres no true blackcks on either screen coating
QD oleds loose too much contrast
And even W-oled with glossy display with ambient light the screen reflects too much to apretiate blacks
LG literally has a good matte coating on this monitor
🤦
Still think it’s too early for 4K. Waiting for 480hz 1440p WOLED from 165hz 1440p IPS
I would say the LG not having a type-c is why I would pick the Asus. Having a MacBook, I can see myself needing that extra connection method.
Did you mention the fact that it has a fan? This is a huge Minus in my book!
This one or the ASUS ROG swift OLED PG32U. The LG have Dolby vision?
1080p stretched over 32"? 4:12 Grainy when cropped?
Any tips on how to avoid burn in?
Yo Tom where did you get the storm trooper from mate?
It's a UBTECH First Order Stormtrooper Robot from about 6 years ago!
@@Thetechchap Thanks mate
replayed the bit about the backlight led thing a few times, did you say cannot turn it off?
Remember Samsungs new 32" OLED monitor too. It looks nice.
Does this monitor get brighter than an LG C4 42inch?
When will this monitor be on sale?
How did you measure 800-900 nits in a 10% window? Monitors Unboxed measured only 700 or so nits in a 10% window.
I’d like it more if it was glossy. Love the design though
The 1080p mode is terrible. A PPI of 70 can work with a TV, but 32” up close is blur town. So you end up paying 300-500 more than the competition for something that is basically usable as a cool showcase to a friend of yours.
Yep it's rough
well you clearly only use this mode for competitive games and never for desktop use or story driven gaming, in that case the difference in resolution hardly a problem. really need to take the use cases into account. for example most CS players play on 1280x960 on 1080p monitors, so 1080p mode here would be absolutely no problem apart from the physical size being rather big, but that can be easily solved by just moving the monitor further back. it's a very niche feature for sure and should only be relevant if you actually need more than 240hz but still want an incredible desktop experience.
Can Gaming Monitors be used just for tv for amazon firestick blu-ray player or gaming consoles like xbox playstion or nintendo switch???
Yes and this has built in speakers
Ive orderd this Masterpiece now on LG for 1100 € with coupons... the Asus is 400 € more.. so i guess Perfect deal!
“This maybe the best monitor I’ve ever reviewed” says you in every monitor review video.
Hah well.. I guess each one I use tends to be better than the previous one (as tech improves)
@@Thetechchap Yeah you got a point there. Keep up the good work on your videos. I enjoy your reviews particularly the ones about laptops and tablets(iPads)👍
480hz mode + DLDSR upscaling :3
Tom, you make great videos. No details spared. Keep up the good work :)
What was the shooting game and f1 game ?
If the monitor can do 480 internally, I don't see why they couldn't do a 4K 120Hz BFI mode that runs 3 identical frames, then a black, from a 120Hz signal.
I just picked up the asus swift pro 540 hz and I can say for sore I miss playing on my OLED C9 55.. I might have to sell this one to upgrade now..
They should have also added a pass through/display link with the thunderbolt
Any idea when this will be available for preorder here in the uk

I REALLY want to preorder this monitor but its currently not even coming up as a product on LG Australia website even though Amazon US and LG US have had it up for preorder for ages.
Lack of glossy and usb-c display output seriously are hindering what would otherwise be my dream monitor
i bought this monitor, not running at 4k at all in dual mode , using laptop, i was told to get a usbc and hdmi adapter and try it that way, how can i tell if it is running at 4k and 240hz and.03ms
Usable monitor speakers are nice, but you can fix that.
Troll detected 😠😠😠
@@СНСАЛЕКСАНДАРВУЧИЋ Then you should watch Monitor unboxed review. As I said, I had high hopes for that monitor, but it’s a little bit disappointing. Maybe you should bring up some arguments instead of just say „troll detected“, because that’s something a troll would say. Have a nice day.
