should i return the monitor? I got it for around $1100 (new). I have it for 4 days now, and I've liked it so far as i came from 2k 240hz ips from Alienware. I'd like to get the qd-oled by MSI but it just never comes in stock. I only have about 10 days left to return. I usually game in a dark room with controlled lightings.

hhhmm would say if you don't play pubg which's time is like 5% of it in Erangel's fog and you've not seen glossy, there's no problem.
Until you start as a player of pubg. With 20 cm of distance to the device. I would say anything matte is simply a fail then.
A not glossy is simply good to look at if it's off.

I purchased this display for $1100 after tax and coming from a 42” C3 I have to say the gaming performance is noticeably better. I only notice the matte coating in a negative way on my windows taskbar. Is Qd oled better, possibly, but I have no issues with this product.

Got it, agree it’s way too over priced, but fear of market drove me to snag it regardless. As expected I don’t mind the matte, it’s glossier than I expected. The 480 hz is incredibly smooth, and the 1080p looks crisp because it’s a true 4:1 conversion.
I chose this one because I want 32 inch, not 27. Even at 1080p I still want 32.
I get what you mean about the black crush, I’ve noticed that too. Adjusting the black level is a trade off between black blacks and faded blacks.
HDR looks great, although I don’t see myself using it often.
I’m using an HDMI 2.1 cable so idk if I have any issues with compression right?

Glass or glossy would simply make the colors pop much more and the font would also be much sharper on the LG 32GS95UX-B.

Matt monitors are objectively better than glossy monitors, especially if they are selling to gamers. Damn. I was quite excited for this one. I had the LG 27" OLED from last year. It also had severe vertical banding that did not go away with pixel refreshes and crushed near-black details (impossible to fully fix with calibration/settings), just as you described here. Combining those issues with the matte coating, the viewing experience was honestly too dirty, especially on dark mode desktop apps. I couldn't justify keeping it for those reasons. I was surprised that no reviews mentioned those issues back then. This one seemed kind of perfect on paper, but if it's still suffering from the same problems, I just can't. Thanks for actually testing and talking about those things, other reviews don't.

I have an LG C3 and I believe this problem with the vertical lines also exists because it is w-oled.
After long research I decided on the Alienware AW2725DF, when oled; glossy; 27 inches (32 I think is too big for me); 1440p 360hz (in my opinion, perfect for today); and the icing on the cake... 3 years full warranty (including image retention, burning).
Honestly, I thought this mode option that LG implemented on this monitor was really cool. In my opinion, LG should tip the scales towards oled, glossy and, above all, full guarantees for its monitors.

I have 4 Ikea Detolfs behind me that have LEDs on each shelves and usually play guitar with all the lights on. If that was a QD-OLED, the raised blacks would bother me like crazy. Plus, I like to play horror games with all the lights on and the black is still black and the colors are still vibrant.

I just pick this monitor up from Best Buy and I’m ready to return it. The matted screen kills the quality way too much. To 240/480hz works like advertised. 1080p mode looks more like a terribly bad down scale.
If you simply change your resolution to 1440p 240 no scaling that looks 1000 times better over the 480 option.
I now 1440p 240hz is the sweet spot. I think I’m finally ready to go wide screen too.

I got this monitor from pre order and got the 15% off so it was almost $1200 which is still a lot more expensive than the QD Oleds. I replaced my AW3423DW (which was also pre ordered in 2022) and I agree with almost everything you said. One thing I like about this monitor though is in HDR the reds tend to be more of a deep rose red than the QD Oleds which look orange in my eyes... greens look better imo too.
My biggest gripe is I 100% agree that the brightness and EOT curve needs to be fixed ASAP, this monitor in HDR is WAY darker in some scenes like the max brightness is 600 nits WTF???? Also with my AMD gpu, the driver doesn't say AMD Premium Pro... just Adaptive Sync Compatible.. and I can tell...
Another disappointment is yeah... 1080p looks horrendous, my native 1080p secondary monitor looks way better than scaled down 4k to 1080p. However, at 24" mode and turned the sharpness to 70, its quite a bit of a difference than the trash 1080p 32".

I absolutely hate matte finishes, especially the super grainy kind. Like you said, LG has better coatings, and it baffles me that they willingly and knowingly put the worst coating on this monitor because they think the pros outweigh the cons. I get that they're trying to appeal to competitive players and minimize light reflection at max settings, but since they're also trying to appeal to casual and enthusiast players who enjoy crisp, detailed, clear, and vibrant images, this monitor shoots itself in the foot. The issues you mentioned, like the coating and the loss of details in dark scenes, make it feel like this monitor is fighting itself. I've an Gigabyte QD OLED on it's way to me so I'll be able to compare them. I also tried playing in HDR (Helldivers 2) and the colors are completely all over the place. Like what is this? @@WiseGuyFTW The Gigabyte was MUCH better. The coating alone makes everything look crisper and the HDR performance is by miles better. You need to watch the mode but in the correct one you get a very good EOTF tracking. I still sent it back and cancelled the ASUS which I wanted to try. I decided that for now 32" is just too big for my taste and as there aren't any 27" 4K OLED screens I'll stick to my old LG IPS. I'm still tempted to try out the glossy 1440p ASUS WOLED for example and there's coming a WOLED 480HZ version (mate coating again though).
If you want a 32" I recommend it if you got a deeper desk or you use a monitor arm (or plan on getting one). Don't underestimate the size difference between 27" and 32".
Still the OLED factor and the colors are really good. I'll definitely get one in the future, just not sure which one. Remember what we got now is the first gen of 4k 32" OLED screens and NVidia announced a partnership with Mediatek to integrate GSync into their displaydriver chipset. It really depends on what you want. There's some advantages rn too, the 480HZ WOLED ASUS offers a different subpixel layout for more clarity for example which the glossy 240HZ version doesn't offer.

What has happened to LG and their gaming monitors? The 27gp950 (which I own) has a great semi-gloss coating with a bright, vibrant picture. Since then, they seem to have gone with heavy matte coatings and low-nit dim displays (or an aggressive ABL that kills brightness potential). I have the 27gr95um 4K mini-led, and have been so let down by it due to it's horrible inverse ABL that kills peak highlights (and overall brightness) when the screen has any dark areas(using Gamer Profiles 1 or 2, which are the only ones that don't use weird unchangeable gamas, contrast settings, etc). I'm guessing they did this to reduce blooming but it destroys the impact of HDR peak highlights in the process. In my opinion, compared to the Innocn 27m2v (which I also own), the 27gr95um doesn't even seem like an HDR display (when HDR is enabled). On paper, with more dimming zones and also being HDR 1000 certified, it has the potential to be better in HDR over the Innocn, but in practice it fails. They released one firmware update and apparently gave up on it and abandoned it (it has been at a discounted price for a while and, at least as of a month or so ago, told me there are no further plans for more firmware updates). On top of that, they lied to me about how to fix the dimming of the display (in the Q&A section on the monitor's page). LG told me to simply turn off "DFC' in the monitor's settings, but the problem is, the 27gr95um does NOT have a DFC setting (like many of their monitors do). Sorry to rant, but LG slapped their supporters in the face with that monitor.

There are a few reasons you can buy this, you play fps games, this can change to 24 or 27 inches size for u which this video doesn't mention it. And you do documents on your computer if you just play games maybe you can just buy a TV. Also, if you want to see the true black which QD-Oled cannot provide because it will become purple when there is a little light in your room. I don't know why this guy doesn't know why LG made the monitor like this, is it that really hard to understand?

This is the same price as the MSI with the 15%% discount + Rakuten. Just needs the firmware updates pushed and this will probably be the best alternative to the FO32U2P and AW3225QF.

@@DrakonR What a bullshit comment. In some companies you can actually choose the gear you want. This monitor may very well end up in an office.
And where is the market saturated with matte OLED monitors? The LG and ASUS will bei the only once 4k 240hz.
Even Apple gives you the option for a nano texture. So stop forcing your ideas for a monitor down everyone's throat and give people the option to choose.

So could every other monitor. This is a nothing argument.
"And where is the market saturated with matte OLED monitors?"
I didn't specify OLED, there are plenty of other options. Doesn't take away from the fact the market is saturated by matte in the monitor space.
"So stop forcing your ideas for a monitor down everyone's throat and give people the option to choose."
Hold up a mirror. The market is saturated with matte displays. They have options to choose. But people who want a glossy monitor only have one choice. That's not equal by any stretch of the imagination nor is it a choice. If you legitimately want options, you would be in support of glossy.
      Just saying.

The banding is the worst part for me. I was so bummed when i checked my new G4 and it had some pretty bad spots but luckily it was mostly cleared up after a 10 min pixel compensation cycle. I cant see it with my eyes any more bit i can see it with my phone in a couple spots. I love the MLA WOLED panels but the QD OLEDs are definitely where its at for monitors.
If the Samsung S95D had DV and worked better with VRR at 121-144 hz I'd go with QD OLED. Went with the G4 since its the best balance for PC gaming and picture quality at 77".

Did I just miss it or did this review never talk about the audio at all? After the refresh rate, the audio on this monitor is probably what makes 90% of buyers actually buy this thing. All the "I don't know who this is for" and "I'm really shocked people are recommending" like . . . . dude, you basically skipped the marquee feature. That's the confusion, you're not like some galaxy brain speaking truth to power, you just completely ignored the main buy/no buy feature people who actually decide to buy this care about.

@@bububob1 Well, to clarify slightly, maybe not 90% of sales, some are just rich people buying the shiny thing. But specifically to the reviewer acting all baffled at the end, who would choose this. If you ask users who chose this over the ASUS, the Alienware, or the Samsung equivalent, I'd bet you 90% mention the sound. People who live in small spaces in dense cities absolutely have high end setups and want builtin speakers. LG is a Korean company. Are there uhm, a few people in Seoul who want that? Yeah. Is it a lot of people globally? Maybe not. Was it a good choice for LG? No idea, not defending LG. But . . . it is the answer to this guy's question, and every other review I've seen got that.
