Yo kaizen, if you remember me I'm MrMagi. We used to play Hella, i was the pre-alpha player that would spam the hourglass rune that would reset damage in the past three seconds. It was so much fun running it with you and glad to see your still killing it when it comes to your videos!
I remember in pre-alpha there used to be a leader board with whoever had the most wins that week. I remember that the testers would grind this game out like no tommrow, and have upwards of 60-80 wins in one week just to stay in the top ten.
This game could have been huge, imo the biggest reason this game was dead on arrival was because like you said there was no open beta. But the other biggest reason IMO was that the marketing team dropped the ball when it came to advertisements.
Honestly I hated this game because it was waaaaaay too difficult to play on controller. It was basically unplayable unless you played MnK. I also wish they added more magic styles/spells
@@Jack-wq6xp I have, but Spellbreak was one of those rare gems for me. Still to this day, there is no battle royal with this approach. One of a kind indeed!

parts of the game look like it was made with the same engine BoTW was made with (i think its just called the physics engine; i wanted to use the engine for my class capstone project game but not enough time). it looks like the characters, the clothes, and the particle effects
I was really sad when the game shutdown. The reason I dropped it was for the overcomplicated gear system with the runes and abilities and equipment . I loved the game and thought I would return to it when the gear system got more intuitive which never happened. The gear was too much that you had to spend a lot of time just hunting for gear, at least that’s how it was when the game released. I’m happy to see the game is still alive.
Back in the day when the game was on steam, I used to go toxic and fire, with the invis rune. The amount of clutches that allows you to do is insane. You could revive your teammate and then explode them when they can’t see you coming.
Was one of my favorite games of it's era. Honestly the biggest gripe I had amongst friends and in the community, was that it was so far from a casual game. The last zone was just people permanently dueling in the air, which made the majority of people I know drop it, and myself once I couldn't get a team. Super ahead of it's time with gameplay, combining spells, using runes etc for combos and to make plays. But every end circle was the exact same thing. Air spam. The only outlier was if you also played air spam, had a stealth rune, or were hiding as the mayhem went on and cheesed someone. That issue was prevalent for weeks until my group quit, and once the nerfs came through, nobody was playing. At one point I even remember nobody in my lobbies were picking up earth as well. Because it was a death sentence to even grab. Everyone was sweating with air and ice shot and kiting you.
I loved spellbreak back when it was still supported officially, but I was an xbox player back then and my laptop was really, really bad at running games so I couldn't play the PC version. Now that I've gotten a new PC, I'm exicted to try the stuff the community has done for the game.
What hurt me was their changes and nerfs to perks. Man oh man a lot of my builds were tanked so hard and splitting some of the perks really just hurt. I wish they'd combine some of the other ones and just flesh the lackluster ones out more and add new ones before trying to rebalance. When they dropped that 10v10 (or 20v20 idr the player count) mode and you could use that Survivalist perk. Idr what it was called but you gained hp and armor on killing an enemy, AND you could combine it with that one healing perk everyone used. My common stone gauntlets were unmatched. Don't let me get gold ones. I was fighting 1v5s the whole game. My buddy would just use glass cannon builds with that one perk that sped up healing and shield items and healed around you. I'd take all the mini's and he'd use the larger potions and we had an unbeatable setup. This game was so much fun, but they butchered so many good things about it before actually releasing things that would keep players around.
I didn't remember that there was a community edition for Spellbreak. It was my favorite battle royale for a while, but I played on the Switch version, amd after a while, it became too hard to find matches, so I dropped it, and then not too long after, they shut it down. Now I have a computer that should be able to handle it. I might redownload it soon.

it was a super fun play style but the matchmaking was atrocious. As a player with less than 2 hours of playtime I was getting matched against max level players with the alpha tester tag. Whoever thought putting us in the same game lobby was a good idea deserved to have their game die. I wish they did something else with the assets but the game as it was, was trash. i'm sad that I was happy to watch it fail.
L take, less than 2 hours playtime is less than 10 matches which means you didn't even give the game a chance or yourself a chance to improve. Anyone getting matched with anyone is fair, unlike the half assed SBMM we have in today's games.
