Well the rulebook PDF is preloaded into the game on tabletop sim, and it has a page w/ a list of the keywords, which is an acceptable enough solution for a playtest IMO. Something fanicer might be cool later down the line tho.
The thing that made me love the idea of card wars as a kid was the writing. It seemed so cool and exciting. I think as long as you capture the whimsical world and the convoluted random feel of the rules, it won't matter what it's named. If it feels like card wars then it will be what was so special about card wars
the new name and mockup are certainly cool but i feel like it doesn't reflect the whimsical nature the creature designs inhabit. this is probably just nitpicking but it sounds too serious
I wouldn't worry too much about being show-accurate, the Yu-Gi-Oh card game isn't accurate to the show either, and that's the entire premise of the show.
Tbf to YGO, the show/manga came first and the game was just a loose adaptation of the actual tcgs the writer was playing at the time (Magic the Gathering and Monster Collection being the most notable ones, MC specifically for Duelist Kingdom) and the YGO card game came afterwards. Then again Battle City was an actual attempted adaptation of the Konami card game so it still applies somewhat lol
I am not really sold on the name. “Elemental Incursion”feels like it’s for a game about the four classical elements and does not capture the zaniness and whimsy of card wars.
It would probably make it easier to distinguish between lands, items, buildings, and creatures if you made it so creatures have both the health and attack values, lands and items don’t have any values (not even the X/X thing that they currently have), and structures only have health values (not X/#, just #). Essentially, have it match the way MtG does it as it would be easy to pickup for both MtG players and newbies. The symbols you have for “outcards” and lands probably need to be rethought; card titles should only contain the names and not any superfluous symbols.
I 1000% agree with you, right now working with this singular template makes card creation simpler internally- so iterating is quicker. All the presentation and card formatting will eventually get redone, but at the moment it's enough for you guys to get your hands on and start testing!

Even from the mobile game that was far less complex than this still had the creatures pop up when you placed them, and the building show up and not just be a monopoly stock building. I think once you decide to incorporate animation elements for immersion is when this will truly be a finished remake. Great work so far!
the cards will be infused with magic. projecting it onto the beards you must hand carve out of the mystical whysteria wood to harness the magis and project the forms of creatures
I think during combat there should be a way to retreat creatures out of battle or at least add some cards that have an ability similar for example mabye a tower that can save a creature right before it dies in combat or smthing

This is so cool but i really do have to think the choice to make it a physical table top game, while cool, is really limiting. Putting down a card and having to put down a piece onto the board feels slow. I just think having a stand alone game would be worth all the extra effort.
I played a game of the playtest with my friend yesterday, twas incredibly fun. I enjoy that you dont have to declare the specific actions you plan to take with an activated creature before your opponent reacts, although we didn't realize we were required to move the pieces into places with enemy pieces or cross the kingdom divide, whoops. I was able to trick them into using a spell by activating a few creatures and then just not attacking with them, although they were exhausted during their turn so it was sorta balanced out. It'd be interesting to have cards that bypass that rule, but I'm not sure how usable that gimmick would be
That rule only just changed! Honestly I was fine with how it was, but feedback led me to change it- plus there were some situations where it could be exploited, particularly with burrow. But reintroducing it in a managed way could be cool!
Personally I haven't played either playtest yet, but to me the old combat system (where you could distribute recieved damage among your units) seems way more fluid and enjoyable than the current one with back and forth attacking.
I have an element idea: *Infestation* The theme would basically be rot - bugs, fungi, and so on. Its main 'gimmick' would be adding cards to a player's deck - but not the Infestation player's. It'd shove useless or nearly-useless cards in the opponent's deck, right into their draw pile, to clog up their hand. It would then have its most powerful creatures and spells use the junk cards added to the opponent's deck to determine their damage etc, consuming those junk cards in the process. Maybe as a secondary gimmick, longer-lasting spell effects and the like. Less immediate payoff, but infestation spells would chip away at their target for a while after resolving unless dealt with somehow. Like it's slowly rotting the opponent's build.
