I downloaded the game day 1 and played for a week with friends. Lost every single game to a team of dudes that could 360 no scope you from distances you could barely even see them... movement of a pc player was very obvious from day 1 as well. Game suffered massively from no skill based matchmaking and cross play being forced.
Although fun this video covers all the issues. I had a ton of fun playing and got a few friend's to play but even then if I died early we didn't win and none of us really liked battle royal type of games.
Really well done video, Marcus. Thanks for putting your heart into the game just as much as so many of us on the Prole team did through the years. It crushed me to see how things were handled as well…heaps of potential that never hit the inflection point to stay ascending. I’m going to miss the community tremendously.
The best BattleRoyale game that existed until today. I am very grateful to have been a part of this community. Thanks to all who enjoyed the game even in the last hours. If we ever get another game like Spellbreak like in the Alpha times we will see us there again...
@@gavo117 That's not always true. Look at Overwatch 2 and Team Fortress 2 for example. Overwatch has 1.5 out of 10 in metacritic while Team Fortress 2 has 9.0 out of 10 but I bet Overwatch 2 is still more popular. Good or not, advertising matters alot. Lol XD The problem with Spellbreak is that, it was more fun than Fortnite and Apex Legends in my opinion too but according to this video it sounded like Spellbreak didn't had enough good content update to keep people invested into the game, plus I bet being bought by Blizzard helped with that decision too, and I also thought Fortnite and Apex Legends had alot more advertising too sadly even during launch rather than it being older.

I played Spellbreak from open beta to the very end. Watched you and Timmy the whole time. What's going to last even longer than the game is what you did for my enjoyment of it, putting a face to a community, a game and an experience that were really valuable to me. Thank you for everything!
You probably wont remember me, but when the game first released we actually ended up in a game together and I felt like I met a star that day xD. You rock man and this game does too. Its an honest shame the spellbreak chapter is ending but I also hope that one day it will be revived as it truly is a one of a kind game that just had issues on how to keep people entertained long term. Great video Marcus and keep doing what youre doing! :D - BLVNK
To be fair, I always thought giving you every element out of the gate was a great idea. Felt like choosing a starter Pokémon, except you get them all. Loved seeing what element newer players picked, and how their play-style took advantage of it. Unlocking elements could have helped your previous issue of “one good player dominating” since whoever has the “better” gauntlet could snowball easier into victory. Like imagine being stuck with fire or toxic, and someone can just use wind to climb a mountain to escape you, if you had no rune or talent to help your movement. May just be a wind player here trying to justify it’s insane movement potential. All in all, this game will be sorely missed. Only under a month left before it’s gone. Currently getting all trophies on PS as a sense of goodbye. It would be awesome if everyone came together to play for its last day!
I played Spellbreak since the alpha and despite the fact I can't stand most battle royale games, this one was an absolute blast to play. This has been one of the very few shooter games I actually got invested in and put hours of my time into, and made some amazing memories doing so. It'll be very hard to find another game with this certain playstyle for sure. I think the thing that made me lose interest was the Dominion mode; what you said about it was spot-on. Spellbreak will still be an experience I'll never forget, and I'm glad I was able to experience it as long as it lasted. Hopefully Blizzard can somehow make it into a free archive game in the future but I doubt it :(
Spellbreak was one of those games that you tell your friends they had to try when it was in its prime. I was so upset to see it go. I supported the Devs as much as I could and loved every second of gameplay. Its truly a shame what happened to the game but at least I was able to find your channel thanks to the game and ive enjoyed keeping up with your content both on YT and Twitch.
Still playing it every now and then with friends and really sad to see it go. I will say I was super hype for the map updates to bogmore and banehelm, those were beautiful and I was so excited to see how the map was going to look once they upgraded all the areas. Really hope blizz does something with it or at least puts up servers again, but I know that's likely just copium like you said. Rip Spellbreak, you were one of a kind
You were THE Spellbreak player/content creator in my eyes. Great retrospective video on the game and cheers to the next great game that you find to make your own!
this game suffered from the same problems as Gigantic, two absolutely amazing games, and two heartbreaking losses to community i hope that maybe something similar comes out in the future
NO ONE REMEMBERS THAT GAME BUT I LOVED THE LIGHTNIG ASSASIN. Also the archer and the girl princess who's dad was her greatsword. That game had amazing character concepts
I absolutely loved this game, even though I started playing really really late. It was just, so FUN. I saw it was shutting down and was both shocked, annoyed and incredibly sad. I barely even played it, and was excited to play more, and then it was gone. Really disappointing to see such a great game shut down.
Beautiful video, brother. To each and every person I've played Spellbreak with/against: I love you guys. By far the best community I've ever been a part of.
What a great video Marcus! It's heartbreaking to watch Spellbreak drift away over the horizon, but the years we did have were fantastic. Much love homie
Man, I miss playing this game. If only they implemented some sort of offline practice BR mode where you could beat up on bots, at least we'd be able to experience the game mechanics when the servers are shutdown. =\ Definitely one of the most unique and fun 'shooter' experiences - one I don't know if we'll ever see again.
I had the pleasure of being knock out by you more than once lol, and then at a later date playing on the same team. A lot of fun was had by me playing this game and even spent money on more than one outfit with the Brilstone Automation (The Robot) being my favorite. I will truly miss this game and find myself having the same thoughts, feeling etc that you had towards the end of your video. Too bad we can't have a giant party in the real world with all the people we played this game with in the virtual one. Perhaps this game will be brought back from the dead at some point; since we see that with games that are much older than this one. I will miss playing the robot among other things from the game. If Spellbreak is never brought back again may it R.I.P.; because either way I enjoyed the ride that was Sprellbreak . . .
I made a lot of friends on spellbreak but I had to take a long break for college and when I got a ps5 I got the bad news about the game :( I will probably never see those people again but it was really fun ❤️ o7
you sir, are the reason I started playing this game and I can say without a dought it was one of my most favorite style games of all time! once the player base crashed and it took 1 hour to get into a match I sadly had to quit. I think the failure of this game was mostly due to the time frame of its existance. Hopefully one day this game can come back and become the game it was suppose to be!!
Starting on Sept 3 2020, I found your channel right away. You made me want to be a better Vowbreaker. This game helped me get past my depression during the pandemic. I will always be grateful for the developers creating an AMAZING game unlike no other, to you and many streamers for making me want to be a better player, to the community who've I've met so many amazing people that I still am in touch with. The decision to end developement of this game really hurts. It's a huge part of my gaming experience. I am a better player because of this game. Thank you Marcus and to every one who contributed to many, MANY, MANY hours running this game. :(
Really well made Marcus, summarized everything perfectly. Thanks for the fun battles back in the day and I hope we can all find something we'll have similar passion for in the future
Great video Marcus! Im definitely going to miss playing with all the homies, playing scrims, and playing those tourneys and qualifiers. This was the first game I actually became good at to the point of being recognized. Goodluck in all you do Marcus
I feel you 😭 It sucks when you find a gem like this... a game with so much potential and unlike anything else at the moment just to see it fail... I have a similar experience with a game called Super Mecha Champions. I love that game with all my heart but it has a lot of issues (perfomance) that deters most players. But if you manage to push through it's really an amazing game and I've never had an experience quite like it. I know that it will fail as well one day and it makes me really sad but until then I will enjoy and after the fact I will always carry it in my heart 😭😭😭😭💔💔
We all feel your pain and heartache, this was one of the first games that i every played religiously, and i cried when it was shutting down and i just fucking wish that blizzard would do something to the game. RIP to one of the best hidden gems in the world. RIP Spellbreak: 2020-2023

This game was gorgeous and fascinating, I looked forward to getting involved with it. It's a tragedy I missed out on such a creative endeavour with so much potential, it truly deserved to last. The mechanics were reminiscent of Fable Three's sorcery, for me; my favourite aspect of that title; what a thrill to see what this game had to offer. Here's to hopes of a resurgence.
honestly just now getting to watching this video because its hard to relive the downfall of the game I made most of my friends through and have so many fond and (also not fond lol) memories of started grinding this game at a low point in my life in mid to late 2018 and it means a lot to me, thanks for making this video man
Love the video and I couldn’t agree more with everything you said! I miss the game, your legendary gameplay videos of it, and still have yet to find another game similar to it. I too hope they bring it back in one way or another. Thank you again for your video and bringing back enjoyable memories of it! 😢💯
Spell break was one of my favorite games and hearing that is was being discontinued hurt a lot. Blizzard I hope that you can bring the game back up in some way and give the world the spell break we all love
i doubt it sadly, the devs they bought up from spellbreak are going to work on wow... so they traded a new unique game for more wow resources what a waste. fuck wow.
I learned about this game from Marcus back in the beta i think. I subbed to him on TH-cam, tuned into a lot of streams. Game was so amazing; really made you feel like badass to say the least. It kind of upset me that Marcus didn't mention the class: Stoneshaper. Lots of people at the time said that it was the most broken class in the game, but I felt that it was very balanced. It would gain shields (up to a limit) upon hitting an enemy, and it would do very good damage. The cost of using the gauntlet though, would be that you could only hit people on the ground, so being in a game where players were in the sky constantly, it was a class of punishing, not engaging. The ability it came with was a boulder you could throw that would increase in size and damage based on travel time, and being able to slam to the ground faster than other classes made this element really unique. I always loved combining the Stoneshaper Gauntlet with fire or ice. Being able to lob a giant flaming meteor at the enemy that would explode and ignite players, or a frozen rock that would freeze players upon hitting them. It was so much fun... The main attack for this gauntlet, as said before, would be a shockwave that would travel forward on the ground, this could also be ignited by the fire gauntlet or do major damage to frozen targets. I was devastated to hear Spellbreak had to close down, but nonetheless I enjoyed my time playing the game, one of my top ten game of all time, and my favorite battle royale. sorry for the rant, but thank you for reading
Absolutely LOVED Spellbreak! Was my favorite of all of the battle royale style games. Went to introduce my friends to it 2 months ago, played one match (all bots) won, and then spent 15 minutes queuing and never found another match.. so upsetting to only just then realize the player count had plummeted and I had lost my opportunity to enjoy the game more before its death.
Great video, I can see how it impacted you with the game dying. Just knows all things come to an end and this gives you ample opportunity to start a new journey somewhere else. I had the same feeling with TERA. One of the first MMO's I really lived for. Much respect for having the courage to show your feelings.
It really is surreal to even scroll through these comments and read all of the comments of friends and teammates that this game brought to us. Whether I'm remembered as Brett or Mavv these players really brought the best gaming years of my life so far and I found them all through your stream Marcus, much love as always
i remember playing this game when it first released, just messing around in the practice range, although never playing it much after. Crazy to see a game become so good looking and fun while watching a video about how its shutting down
One of the greatest games of all time, and an absolute tragedy that it won't be playable anymore. I pray that there will be either private servers or another iteration of the game in the future. R I P
Truthfully a wonderful game during alpha it was so cool to see it evolve and grow the way it did, and of course I cherish every moment I had with the game, but I think the real crux of the game was in fact the epic exclusive, and what you mentioned in movement , compared to the early versions of the game it still does feel like moving in molasses I hope another game can come and do what spellbreak did or maybe even the revival of spellbreak, but I can only dream
I feel like this game has massive single player potential. Gives terraria vibes for sure. Imagine working your way up to fighting a boss like the cultist? Absolutely stunning visuals and incredible movement. I would buy that in a heartbeat
@@aleccarlson492 with the spell slinging and the dashes and such. The characters abilities in this game remind me of terraria characters right before hard mode. Like multiple jumps, and different types of jumps at that, switching spells, spells that specialize in AOE damage vs single target

This makes me so sad to hear that Spellbreak is done, i remember playing the lauch version and having so much fun with spell type fights, i tried playing 2 months ago (or so) and could get a game, i waited for 15-30 min until i got tired and uninstalled it, Rip Spellbreak.

I just searched "spellbreak fail" cause i got curious what happened to the game I enjoyed playing for a good number of weeks when it launched. Your name looked so familiar then I realize I used to watch you for guides and tips. This game had so much potential and was so unique. Great video btw.
Hey Marcus, thanks for sharing this tribute to Spellbreak. It was such a pleasure to play, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Your video captured the essence of the game perfectly and brought back fond memories for me. I appreciate the effort you put into giving it a fitting sendoff. Keep up the good work!
This broke my heart.I’m on ps5 and I was watching my old clips,my wins,my losses, funny moments, cool moments, and this is what the game has become into
This game was an absolute gem!!❤️ I’ve been playing since launch and as someone who’s a big nerd for magic, powers, mages, & things of that nature this game has always wowed me for its concept and how well they were able to nail it!! It deserved/deserves SO much better. I REALLY hope this game makes a resurgence and it’s backed by ppl who know how to run a good battle royale. The concept of battle mages with elemental magic powers in a battle royale is just TOO good of a concept and the gameplay was SO clean. Here’s to hoping if it’s not revived SOMEONE will pick up this concept and expand upon it further and give us cool designs, more magic, and cooler maps. #RIPSPELLBREAK💖
This video right here and your reaction at the end, is why I hate that people say "dead game" at everything that's not top 10 games. They have never experienced true death of a game where it is shut down and abandoned. It is a soul crushing horrible feeling and I hate that it's being downplayed. I'm sorry the game died man at least you enjoyed it while it was there
i used to play this game when it first released and i never didnt have fun but somewhere along the line my attention was taken somewhere else and i only recently (sometime in november) remembered it existed and i opened up the game to see the notice that it was shutting down. i tried queuing for a game but it was taking over 20 min so i gave up. i miss how the game felt to play and how unique it was. we need more games like spellbreak
To me I think one of the biggest issues was a fundamental one thay couldn't really be fixed. It was a battle royale. I think most people will agree that the battle royale genre was extremely Oversaturated when Spellbreak came out and still kinda is. I really didn't like battle royales but Spellbreak really pulled me in with it's concept and gameplay. Despite how much me and many other people like the concept of the game, I'm sure the fact that it was a BR pushed many people away. Even when when they did add clash, as you stated in this video, it was still essentially a BR, but with respawns. By the time they had added Dominion myself and a lot of others had already stopped playing the game. I feel like a lot more people would be inclined to stay with the game if it was anything other than a BR. But I might be wrong on that.
I think the game definitely would've last longer if it wasn't a BR, Battle royale's can be fun but after of doing the same thing over and over again it can get real old real fast, I feel like if they would've made it like a multiplayer teamdeath match or a moba or made it how paladins and overwatch is And just added the BR mode later The game probably would've done better, because the concept of the game is really cool, I think the game would've been a really really big if came out before Fortnite and the others Battle royale's, but I think what it all boils down to is that everybody is tired of battle royale's because you already have a whole bunch out right now and I think there's MORE that's about to come out For some reason
Somehow Spellbreak flew over my head. Didn't even know it was there. Looks great, like it could port well to consoles too. Wishing you the well moving forward, perhaps this video may steer people into trying it. That click moment was a nice touch btw
I uh... Resonate with this video a lot... I'll always remember pre-eoc runescape. Even when they "revived" it, and made osrs, it just wasn't the same. I feel for you man, and the news I'll give you now, will suck, but also be awesome. You'll always remember how much joy the game brought you, always :) so don't let the sadness of it keep you down
The most charming thing about spellbreak in its early days was the feel of the magic. I truly felt like a novis mage. It was challenging and required a bit of practice. Thats magic in a nutshell.
I really liked this game when it came out, but it's combat was very samey and got old fast. I felt like I was doing the same combos and was rarely challenged to do anything new or interesting in the game. This feeling came within about a month or two of playing. My friends and viewers felt the same way. It seemed like everyone just got bored at the same time and moved onto better things. The game just didn't really have enough depth going for it to last and all engagements played out the exact same way; they needed to find ways to shake up the core gameplay, they never did so the game died.
I met some really cool ppl on here and I’m hella sad it’s gone. I played since launch on console and the memories created are some of the best. Hopefully someone will create an even better game in the future
My biggest issue ended up being players taking advantage of the wind gauntlet and I think it was flight pretty much ensuring that they could fly to the top of the map and stay there and outlast everyone else who wasn’t using it
Well done video, I always wanted to get into this game. I played around the time the bots were introduced and I had some fun but I m not sure why I stopped playing. I m sorry its shutting down, It has a really cool concept and i hope something comes from it in the future.
Finally, a video that talks about everything that I believe made Spellbreak fail the way it did. I'd been quite active in the Spellbreak community since pre-alpha (I was actually the guy who made the inital post to have Red Marla as a Alpha exclusive skin, which they then did after it gained a bunch of traction, also discovered a mechanic that some people later expanded upon before it was removed) and its really sad to see the places this game has gone and the fact that its now shutting down is even sadder.
I never got into Spellbreak because at the time of its release it was "Just another battle royale" to me. I had gotten so burnt out by the genre's over saturation that if a game was a BR I just straight up didn't care about it. Looking back at the game and also giving this video a look made me realize that viewpoint wasn't really fair. You're absolutely right that there will likely never be another game like Spellbreak, and I do regret not giving it a shot...
i played it since pre beta and loved it ever since, and YOU were the "spell break content creator" in my eyes. played it on and off. loved the visuals and the gameplay, sucks its gonna shut down but hey don't be sad its gone, be happy it happened
I droped it because of lack of content. You tried every class, there if few nice combinations of elements and thats it - you saw everything in day 1 of playing.

The problem with Spellbreak is that, it was more fun than Fortnite and Apex Legends in my opinion too but according to this video it sounded like Spellbreak didn't had enough good content update to keep people invested into the game, plus I bet being bought by Blizzard helped with that decision too, and I also thought Fortnite and Apex Legends had alot more advertising too sadly even during launch rather than it being older.
Spell break shits on any other battle royale 💯
@@fidgetyjester2399 you are 100% right, I just heard of it because of this video. I really think I would enjoy it! Advertising is a big part of a succes nowadays

i didnt play this game and i dont even know this exist...but everytime i see videos about games shutting down, i kinda feel emotional
It's the first video of yours I've seen, but damn man you can feel the passion and love you had for the game and the ending literally made me tear up
I played Spellbreak from open beta to the very end.
:D - BLVNK
I'd love to see them make a mmo similar to this game.
That would be sick (In a cool way).
Would be really cool, I really like this combat system it could work really well on a mmo
Yes
roark's attack on titan fan game
Tribes: Ascend was pretty similar in mechanics even if not setting.
@username a hidden and forgotten gem
Still playing it every now and then with friends and really sad to see it go. I will say I was super hype for the map updates to bogmore and banehelm, those were beautiful and I was so excited to see how the map was going to look once they upgraded all the areas.
Really hope blizz does something with it or at least puts up servers again, but I know that's likely just copium like you said.

this game suffered from the same problems as Gigantic, two absolutely amazing games, and two heartbreaking losses to community i hope that maybe something similar comes out in the future
NO ONE REMEMBERS THAT GAME BUT I LOVED THE LIGHTNIG ASSASIN. Also the archer and the girl princess who's dad was her greatsword. That game had amazing character concepts
Gigantic was dope ngl easiest top 5 game for me.

Extremely well done, Im so glad Spellbreak brought us together
Starting on Sept 3 2020, I found your channel right away. You made me want to be a better Vowbreaker. This game helped me get past my depression during the pandemic. I will always be grateful for the developers creating an AMAZING game unlike no other, to you and many streamers for making me want to be a better player, to the community who've I've met so many amazing people that I still am in touch with. The decision to end developement of this game really hurts. It's a huge part of my gaming experience. I am a better player because of this game. Thank you Marcus and to every one who contributed to many, MANY, MANY hours running this game. :(

I’m glad this video got the attention this game always deserved. My pfp is still my art from back in my spellbreak days 😭
Just found the game recently. Was pretty sad to see that it was being closed though…
Rip, great video man.
SB really was the best. Weird to say, but I reckon Dec 2018 - July 2021 was a major high point in my life
The highest of points in mine, for sure.
Great video. It’s sad to see SB leave, but I’m hoping it comes back under the Blizzard umbrella.
It's a shame to see SPELLBREAK dead, I hope the game comes back someday. But for you Markus, HOLY SHIT!!! this video is amazing, pls bring more review tipe content like that talking about other games and franchises you really have the talent for it
This game was gorgeous and fascinating, I looked forward to getting involved with it. It's a tragedy I missed out on such a creative endeavour with so much potential, it truly deserved to last.
The mechanics were reminiscent of Fable Three's sorcery, for me; my favourite aspect of that title; what a thrill to see what this game had to offer. Here's to hopes of a resurgence.
honestly just now getting to watching this video because its hard to relive the downfall of the game I made most of my friends through and have so many fond and (also not fond lol) memories of

Great video and a proper farewell to one of the best games ever. Thank you Markus and thank you to the great community that kept the game alive.
Sadge. I Started tearing up at the end with you brother. Congrats on the success. I have a feeling blizz will do something idk why.
i remember playing this game when it first released, just messing around in the practice range, although never playing it much after. Crazy to see a game become so good looking and fun while watching a video about how its shutting down
One of the greatest games of all time, and an absolute tragedy that it won't be playable anymore. I pray that there will be either private servers or another iteration of the game in the future. R I P
This game and its community will forever hold a place in my heart.
The only similar movement to this is warframe, but they abandoned their pvp and players dont care either. Its a pve game with a failed PvP experiment.
glad to be apart of the community. wish things ended differently. damn. put 1.5k hours into the game. don't regret a thing.
The main issue was the movement and the stiff gear system boiling down to get lucky win the gane
Really wanted this one to succeed. Rip. Hopefully we get something this fun and unique again soon.
Perfect Video.
I feel like this game has massive single player potential. Gives terraria vibes for sure. Imagine working your way up to fighting a boss like the cultist? Absolutely stunning visuals and incredible movement. I would buy that in a heartbeat
terraria vibes? how so
@@aleccarlson492 with the spell slinging and the dashes and such.
The characters abilities in this game remind me of terraria characters right before hard mode. Like multiple jumps, and different types of jumps at that, switching spells, spells that specialize in AOE damage vs single target
I was Flawer ingame some maybe remember me. This was the best game I ever played. Sadly "in my opinion" they patched it so badly it wasnt fun to play anymore
One issue with the game was that there was barely any advertisement. Without that, they weren’t pulling in enough new players to keep it going.

I'm sorry the game died man at least you enjoyed it while it was there
Been here since the M40A3 Disciple days, cool to see you still making videos man
Spellbreak had a place in my heart, thought I stopped playing for the reasons you mentioned. I hope that it comes back better than ever.
i used to play this game when it first released and i never didnt have fun but somewhere along the line my attention was taken somewhere else and i only recently (sometime in november) remembered it existed and i opened up the game to see the notice that it was shutting down. i tried queuing for a game but it was taking over 20 min so i gave up. i miss how the game felt to play and how unique it was. we need more games like spellbreak
I just found this game, today, and it's literally amazing. Im so sad that it's getting shut down.
The last bit of this video that you “really didn’t want to do” was very touching.
I miss this game so much bro. I remember laughing and giggling with my friends when we first played this when it first blew up.
I played the game quite a lot at it’s peak, and I really agree with your points. For me, most of why I stopped playing was the lack of matchmaking
Hopefully someone will create an even better game in the future
its actually so sad to hear this game is being shut down, i havent played in forever but i always had good times playing, it sucks to see it go
My biggest issue ended up being players taking advantage of the wind gauntlet and I think it was flight pretty much ensuring that they could fly to the top of the map and stay there and outlast everyone else who wasn’t using it
It’s sad to hear it’s shutting down I took a break from it so I had no idea it was going down it was such a unique game
Well done video, I always wanted to get into this game. I played around the time the bots were introduced and I had some fun but I m not sure why I stopped playing. I m sorry its shutting down, It has a really cool concept and i hope something comes from it in the future.
We have to get spellbreak back out into the world it was an amazing game and could’ve went really far
I miss this game so much. What it used to be
I recently found the game in my library. I remember playing it and having a blast. Now i found out the game was shut down and im sad to see it go.
I wasn't expecting this to be so emotional, now I'm in my feels
i played it since pre beta and loved it ever since, and YOU were the "spell break content creator" in my eyes. played it on and off. loved the visuals and the gameplay, sucks its gonna shut down but hey don't be sad its gone, be happy it happened
I droped it because of lack of content. You tried every class, there if few nice combinations of elements and thats it - you saw everything in day 1 of playing.
