If Billy Joel is The Cole Porter Of Rock & Roll, Brian Wilson is The Mozart Of Music. This Song took Months to record without any of the technology that we take for Granted. It took months to record and if Brian heard just one note being played wrong, he made them do it over again. They wanted to pulverize him but it was worth it and Brian only has 6% hearing in his Right Ear. It went to Number One in 1966 and Art Garfunkel (Lou Pearlman's Cousin who created The Backstreet Boys & N'Sync) told his former Partner Paul Simon "I Think I've Heard The Greatest Rock & Roll Song Of All Time". This would be the last successful collaboration between Mike Love & Brian Wilson who are Cousins. (Brian's Father Murry & Mike's Mother Emily aka "Glee" are Brother & Sister). Sadly enough things went downhill for them. Brian's Drug Addiction and paranoia resulted in their Follow Up Album "Smile" not being released until much later. They wouldn't have another top Ten hit for the next 10 Years and Brian didn't sing on Kokomo that went to Number One in 1988. They hold the record for going through the longest time for not having a Number One Hit.

He ploughed a relatively narrow furrow though. The Beatles versatility is one of the things that makes them so superior to nearly all other songwriters, plus they were better musicians and singers.

The song blew them away, and they were like, “What are we gonna do now?” So they made Sergeant Peppers.

Brian Wilson is my favorite songwriter of all time, and this song was incredibly innovative when it was released in 1966. The Beach Boys had just released Pet Sounds, one of the most influential albums ever, and were looking for the next big thing. Nobody had done a single like this before. This was not only one of the longest running time singles ever released at that point, but it was the most expensive single ever released that time (took almost six months to record) and one of the biggest hit singles of all time. A true mini-masterpiece in 3 1/2 minutes. Unfortunately, Brian was under such intense pressure from everybody involved (and his own growing drug and mental problems) that he was not able to finish the followup album Smile, which would become the most famous/infamous unreleased album of all-time. He would finally release his own solo version of Smile in 2004 which would give an insight into how amazing the album would have been if it had been released as planned in 1967. Then the original Beach Boys version was finally released in 2011 as part of the Smile Sessions massive boxed set. Some of the most mind-blowing music ever recorded.

Obviously millions loved their music. But, I think you had to be from, Southern California to truly get the full impact of their songs and how Brian Wilson came up with it. He took a portion of a state (Southern California) and turned it into a genre, a movement, he turned it into a style, that included, suntans, white lipstick, bright colors, Woodies, and surfboards. My dad was in the military, so we moved around. In my years and my siblings years, we grew up everywhere, the most formidable years for us were the years we lived in, Kansas. ( 6 years ) I was just getting ready to turn, 11 in 1962. July 1962. As I said, " we were from California, Southern California, ( Rte 66 to be exact ) every time my dad was stationed onto a new base we always came back to, SoCal. In 1968 my dad got orders overseas so he moved us back to SoCal, to be with family while he was gone for a year. Then he retired, so, of course, we stayed in SoCal after he retired. Picture, 4 teenagers, coming into their own in, 1968 in Southern California. What did we have, We had it all, Beaches, mountains, Deserts, and more Beaches...We had the Beach Boys, and it made sense there. God love the teens during the '60s in a midwestern state, ( for us it was, Kansas, the land of Oz )guess how many were jealous that we were native Californians, that's where we would vacation when school let out, and that is where we were going back to, but the dumbest thing of all were all the kids (our friends, etc...) that liked to pretend they were from there, too. Keep in mind that only lasted through the Beach Boy invasion..." Imagine " for so many it was only a dream. Some did end up in California and stayed there for good reason. Yes, California is a dirt hole now, it's pathetic, but it was awesome then and for many more years to come...and we still had the Beach Boys and Kokomo...We came back to California for vacation, to visit family in 64/65 and it was everything a Beach Boys song was. The woodies, the blonde hair, fake or not, the suntans, real. dark tans, real, the beaches, the mountains, etc...They were awesome. It was an awesome time. I'm so impressed all of you young men especially appreciated the old school groups, like the Beach Boys.

How genius do you have to be to create a whole new sound, you can hear it in your head. Brian Wilson was nothing but pure genius to create this and it was the 60's Just sat down and created a whole new Genre, amazing. They say genius is next to insanity, and knowing the decade, And Brian Wilson heard something different. Freaking awesome pulled this out of his head. in that part of the '60s artists were changing the face of music. The Beatles, The Beachboys, and then rock and roll. Brian Wilson also knew what all instruments sounded like, things none of us had ever heard. He created a sound that you could actually visualize, and as you said, it just sounds like you have to be at the Beach. In such a short period of time, the 60's Brian Wilson wrote more songs and the music

So I just recently discovered that the Beach Boys did an album with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. This song of course was on there and it was AMAZING. Everyone should listen to it.

The production on this was completely jaw dropping at the time. It hints at the psychedelic and Brian Wilson (name corrected thanks to KellyAB77) spent a lot of time recording little bits and knitting it together. The attention that he devoted to this track annoyed the other members. Legend has it that it inspired the Beatles' 'Sgt. Pepper' album. There was a little unspoken one-up-manship between the groups.
For myself, I see the imagery of a night on the beach with a couple sitting across from each other, an orange camp fire between them and he's watching the flickers of the flames dance across her beautiful face. A gentle breeze brings her perfume to him. He moves over to her side of the fire to be closer to her. Etc.

Reportedly, the Beatles were blown away by this album (Pet Sounds) and by this song in particular. Beach Boys meant Summer and youth and good carefree times. I grew up with their songs and they all take me back to a simpler, happy time.

To say that this song was their Crowning Achievement is an Understatement. It took Months to record without any of the technology we take for granted. Brian has only 6% hearing in his Right Ear but he knew if someone played wrong. He drove the fellows up the wall but the results speak for themselves. It was their Third Number One Hit after (I Get Around & California Girls) but it was also their greatest burden. It would be their last Top Ten Hit for the next 10 Years and their Last Number One for the next 22 Yers when they came back with Kokomo that Brian didn't play on. They tried to get in touch with him but his Psychiatrist aka Controller prevented Brian from getting the Call. It sold over 3 Million Copies and Art Garfunkel told his Partner Paul Simon "I Think I've Just Heard The Greatest Rock & Roll Song Of All Time".

Besides melodic songwriting and harmonizing vocals, one of the significant vibes in this song is the bass. Surprisingly, the bass guitar player is a women named Carol Kaye and she's one of the greatest bass player of all time.

There is nothing in the world like family members singing together.
“The Bee Gees” are well known for harmonizing amazingly. And so many people have said that they are capable of doing that because they are brothers,.. they are kin.
In the new movie documentary out, about the Bee Gees life “How can you mend a broken heart.”💔 If you haven’t seen it see it it is Awesome.
But they are another musical group that wrote fabulous songs from the late 60s into the 2000s. And now Barry Gibb the oldest brother of the Bee Gees the last remaining BeeGee, Has a new album out called
    🎶”Green fields”🎶
It came out a year ago and it is magnificent check it out!😎

A #1 hit way back in 1966, it was their last one until "Kokomo" came out in 1988. Lead vocals are Carl Wilson on verses and Mike Love on the chorus. Definitely check out the "Sunflower" album, highly regarded as their best work after "Pet Sounds".

This wonderful song is full of surprises, and I'm not surprised that you have really enjoyed listening to the Beach Boys, I remember this playing on the jukebox in the pub. Everyone even the elderly people in there were tapping their feet lol. They had never heard it before and asked if there were anymore of their records on there. Such a happy song that if I could I would have danced lol. Take care and stay safe please my friends Mary-Ellen UK

Brian Wilson understood the use of varying rhythms and dynamics. He also collaborated with other artists to cover his own songs ... the 1996 recording of Don't Worry Baby, with the Beach Boys backing up Lorrie Morgan (a country artist) ... in the live recording of the session, she is grinning so wide, it's hard to believe she was able to sing at all.
