    Brian Wilson is an absolute genius, he wrote the songs and all the instrumentals PLUS the harmonies and he is deaf in one ear after his father hit him in the head...he was a real piece of work and sold all the rights to their music without telling them. Later on Brian was kept hostage by his 'psychologist' who was ripping him off and keeping him sedated with a tonne of different pills. A maid at the house ended up telling his new girlfriend about it and she got him out. There's a movie about it starring John Cusack. Anyway love this song and there are so many others like God only Knows...Paul McCartney said it was the most beautiful song he'd ever heard.

    Their harmonies were always spot on. They spent a lot of time on production. The instruments were played by session musicians - The Wrecking Crew. They played on everything! Look them up.

    • @debjorgo
      @debjorgo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Brian played piano and tambourine, Carl played guitar, Dennis played Hammond organ and of course, all the harmonies were the Beach Boys. There are many layers in the production of this song. But the Wrecking Crew did play most of the music on the track.

    • @janfijay
      @janfijay 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@debjorgo Yup! Of course it wasn't that the Beach Boys couldn't play. The session guys were more flexible, picked stuff up quicker and were real pros. Studio time was expensive but with this track you wouldn't know it. Wilson was a perfectionist so it took months. Hal Blaine and Carol Kaye a killer combination.

    One of my Father’s favorite groups; could easily be dismissed today as just surfer music, but they were groundbreaking with their production; wonderful fill the room from top to bottom sound; next Beach Boys songs: “In My Room” , “God Only Knows” ❤️❤️❤️ Ok, I’m crying now.

    Brian Wilson's mother used to talk to him about "good vibrations" being picked up from people (and dogs!). When he told Tony Asher, who wrote the lyrics, this story, they composed this song based on Brian's riff: "good, good, good, good vibrations."

    • @WINKlerEnterprises
      @WINKlerEnterprises 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tony Asher wrote the lyrics to a number of songs on "Pet Sounds,:" but Mike Love, lead singer of the Beach Boys, wrote the lyrics to Good Vibrations -- at the last minute, on the to the recording studio.

    Folks talk about the great vocals and harmonies of The Beach Boys (justly so. They are one of the, if not the, greatest harmony bands ever)
    But just look at these great lyrics....
    " I love the colorful clothes she wears
    And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair
    I hear the sound of a gentle word
    On the wind that lifts her perfume through the air
    Close my eyes, she's somehow closer now
    Softly smile, I know she must be kind
    When I look in her eyes
    She goes with me to a blossom world"
    I mean come on man, is that not the prettiest and most loving way to admire a woman from afar that you are crushing on? Its perfect. Really paints an exact picture of young love and infatuation with a girl.
    What does "she goes with me to a blossom world" even mean?
    Well it means he is so crazy about her that when their eyes meet they see stars and everything is flowers.
    Corny? I dont know you tell me. I think its a great description and that guys are afraid to admit to the tender things in love. Real men can do that.
    Its simply some of the most beautiful lyrics written to describe that feeling imo.
    Brian Wilson (the leader and writer of the Beach Boys songs) called this his "pocket symphony" A song that encompossed everything in one song. His masterpiece most likely.
    They spent 6 months on this one song. Unheard of in those days when songs were recorded in hours and at the most a few days.

    This record, "Pet Sounds", and Brian Wilsons' polished songwriting, actually inspired John Lennon and The Beatles to write their masterpiece LP "Sergeant Peppers' Lonely Hearts Club Band". It also influenced many great artists at the time. Brian Wilson was very respected by everyone for his refined writing style. Great video, folks!

    That high pitched fibroid instrument is called the Therman and when I was about 12 I threw this song this musical piece and inspire me to buy a kit from popular electronics to put together it was a Therimin you didn’t touch that instrument you just lift your hands above two plates to create both the frequency in one hand and the volume in the other
    It was funny that music inspired my dive into electronics like Jimi Hendrix when I heard his Wahwah pedal on the guitar I went out and bought a kit to make my own Wahwah pedal for the little funky band I was in

    This was a groundbreaking song/recording showing Brian Wilson's genius - Phil Spector's "Wall Of Sound" production techniques - - - Remember - no digital "magic" available in 1966. Over dubbing had to be synced up on tape.

    I don’t know if any other commenter mentioned this, but the weird sci-fi sound is from an instrument called a theremin. It is played by moving your hands through a magnetic/electrical field. It was invented in the 1920’s.
